I placed an order on June 4th for a glider and 2 swivel glider chairs. He told me it wasn't going to take 6 weeks like furniture stores. I have called many times and went down to see him in Kittery. Every time he had an excuse. A truck came in but it wasnt on that one I'm hoping it's on the next truck that comes in. The truck comes from Pennsylvania over night to the store. To many excuses. Furniture that was special ordered and never delivered after 6 months. Every phone call was a different excuse. Finally had to go to the store Which is more than an hour away, the owner again had an excuse and told us it would be here this week......sorry not believing you after all this! Demanded he refund our deposit. He processed a credit on our credit card and we left. After not seeing the credit on our statement a week later, we contacted the CC company. They are taking it from here. I guess the reviews should have told us to not do business with this store. Beware! Buy something off the floor. When you drive by Patio and Flame on Rte 1, you can't help but be taken by the HUGE, two story high, piles of what looks to be seasoned firewood. The logs are mostly light grey. I was hooked. I ordered a cord of seasoned wood for $349. Below are pictures of what I got - 40 percent dirt and wood chips, 5 percent asphalt and the remaining 55% was mostly unseasoned with moisture readings above 20%. The last pic was taken when it was first delivered. The cord didn't look bad except for the 12" square of asphalt on top of the pile. More pieces of asphalt were to be found as we began to stack the cord. The middle two pictures show what the majority of the cord contained. I called several times. They don't answer during business hours. Their machine doesn't take messages and/or the owner, Lane Chase, isn't there. Total rip off! read more

Awful experience with Patio and Flame . I rarely write reviews but want others to be warned. Purchased furniture (special order) in October of 2024. Was supposed to be in 4-6 weeks later. Started calling in December as I had not heard anything. We were told, "Furniture will be in next Tuesday... it will be on the truck". Weeks go by. Still nothing. Kept calling. Kept getting same story. Finally, by March we had enough and drove to the business in Kittery for a refund. After 30 minutes of fiddling around in his office, he gave us a receipt for the refund. Two weeks went by and refund was never posted to our credit card. Original October charges are now being disputed by credit card company. DO NOT buy anything from this business. I do not know how they are still open. They have serious management issues. read more

We purchased a cord and half of seasoned firewood from Patio and Flame on Route 1 in Kittery Maine. The owner told me that there would be two garbage cans of what the owner said would be "burnable material, such as bark and minor wood chips". Upon delivery I noticed that there was more than just two garbage cans of material- there was 45 cubic ft of non burnable wood bi- products- asphalt, dirt, plastic among other non burnable wood materials. It took approximately 4 hours to sort and separate the non-burnable material from the actual wood. I spoke with both the owner and his daughter and they told me they would follow up with me and "make it right". Unfortunately I have not yet heard back from either of the two and don't believe I will based on previous reviews. Totally wish I had read the reviews and gone somewhere else with my business! read more

Something is very wrong with this business - and as a fellow human being, I wonder if maybe the owner is actually very ill and clinging to the business? Maybe family is trying to cover for him? In any case, what's happening here is stunning. I paid in full for a patio set in March; was told they had so much inventory they wished customers were willing to accept deliveries before May. To this, I replied that they could deliver to me ANY time! Well past Memorial Day, I found myself in the same telephone nonsense (referencing the daughter, his health issues, etc.) as noted by other reviewers. It was clear he didn't have the product. I requested a refund - at which point it was nothing short of amusing/annoying. Owner said he'd refund, it would take days, then said he'd completed the refund, then said he needed full credit card number, to do it, but insisted there was no need for me to inconvenience myself to come in. It was clear he'd never refund the $ unless I came in and watched him do it. Despite an added phone call from him telling me I didn't have to come in, I drove down and he completed my refund once I stood there to see it done. read more

It was over 4000 dollars and was not delivered when promised. After saying we wanted our money back, he said fine! But then the furniture came the next week. BUYER BEWARE...this is a totally disreputable business and don't trust anything the unscrupulous owner (Lane Chase) tells you. He would only accept a check or cash up front. Promised delivery of items in 1 to 2 weeks and constantly made excuses all summer when they never came in (family emergency, illness, Covid, supply chain...etc.) Finally delivered half of the items almost 3 MONTHS late and won't even give a date on other items yet still refuses to refund or even discount remaining items. When you ask for details, he gets outraged and hangs up. There are plenty of online venders for all the items he claims to sell which will not only be considerably cheaper, but with free delivery and of whom will charge you only when items actually shipped. read more

Unfortunately, Patio and Flame took their time delivering a table and chairs set to our house and when they finally did, the little cap that fits in the center was missing. I contacted them and was told that it would be shipped to me. That was over two months ago. I emailed the owner and haven't heard back. The worst in every way. Had to bother him several times to deliver the wood. Ditto to what Sheila G. said about the wood. Ended up with at least a yard and a half of slash interspersed with the wood. Had to haul it away on a tarp with a tractor. If we didn't own a tractor or weren't up to the task, we would have had to hire someone to get rid of the junk. i went there and complained to Lane, the owner, and he assured me he would deliver some more wood as compensation the following week. No show, of course and I followed up with an e-mail, but no reply. THis guy is a blow-hard and total rip-off. $450.00 per cord. The new Stratham Patio and Flame store is no better than the Kittery store, which has received so many bad reviews. Apparently, the same disreputable policies are observed at both places. If I could give a rating of "0", I would. Our experience involved "bait and switch" tactics described in other reviews. On our first visit, we were told that they had a "huge" inventory of the line of furniture we liked, and that many of the items were on sale for 20% to 30% off. We spent the next 3 days shopping around and also researched reviews and visited the store's website. Since we had decided that we liked the first line we saw much better than any others, we decided to return to Stratham Patio and Flame, in spite of the negative reviews I had read about the Kittery store. Our return to the store was just 6 days after our first visit. We knew which pieces we wanted and tried to discuss price and delivery times. We were told that the inventory was now severely depleted (after 6 days???), 3 of the 7 pieces were out of stock, and there were no discounts at all available (even though their own website was advertising 20-30 percent discounts). Of course, there is a legal disclaimer on the site which states that prices may change, but they never adjust the website in accordance with changes in price: typical "bait and switch." At the end of our visit, the salesperson (call her "X") offered to check to see if she could find the table we wanted. She came back and told us that there was one table in their warehouse that had been declined by a customer. We asked if we could go see it (we would not take a chance on paying for it sight unseen) and were told that no one is allowed in the warehouse, but she would try to have it brought to the showroom. We left it that she would call us. "X" left a message on our home phone before we got there asking us to call her. She said she would be in the store tomorrow. When I called back the next day, I was told she was not there (????) and, oh, "we sold that table today." Right. So, by all means, visit this store if you enjoy being misled, lied to, frustrated, and disrespected. read more

With such a large selection it makes it hard to decide what's best for the area you need it for - the owner asks the right questions to narrow it down and provides options based on your needs and budget. "Try it, are you comfortable with the height , is it comfortable to sit and relax? " The cost is not of importance to the owner / employees of this business, it's not a commission they are chasing , it's what will make you happy, what feels comfortable and what works best within your budget. Thier knowledge on care and upkeep for each of the materials and how they are made is impressive. We've even found a gift for a friend while there. I typically don't go by reviews as much for retail now now like I used to ,seems a a lot of bitter and unclear accusations with people looking for bargain basement prices - if this is what they want , then shop garage sales and flea markets not a long standing solid business. We were delighted to pick from a huge selection of furniture for a new patio. Owner was very helpful and scheduled a quick delivery to meet our request. This is in a time when other retailers are having problems with keeping stock. We were informed on a VERY hot day that the delivery would come that evening if okay with us. The guys couldn't have been nicer or more professional after they had already made over a dozen deliveries that day. THIS PLACE IS NOT REPUTABLE!!! I paid in full and upfront for a new sectional and dining set this spring from Patio and Flame. When they were delivered, I was given the wrong dining table, two less chairs than I paid for, the wrong cushions (paid for Sunbrella but was given a cheap no-name brand) and the cushions were the wrong color. I was also missing two end tables from the set. I did get the correct table and the two extra chairs delivered later. With regard to cushions, throughout this summer I was told by the Owner (Laina Chase) that he had re-ordered the correct cushions and the two end tables, he then told me my cushions were in but packed away, he then said they didn't have delivery service and finally when I went there myself on the day the Owner arranged with me, he was not there and he told me over the phone I could just take the used display cushions. Frustrating! Ordered & paid in May told 2-3 weeks over 2 months later no chairs. Every time I called , emailed or went in was given different excuses. I get it! I spent about $10,000 in outdoor furniture there this past August. I was told two of the items weren't in the store but should be in the following week. Those two items were $2500 worth. When I didn't hear from them I checked in numerous times each time being told it should be here the next week. One time I was even told they would be delivered to me on Wednesday. They never materialized, nor did they ever follow-up w me. The communication has been awful well some of the staff are very nice. The owner does not feel trust worthy. I personally went back into the store several times to try to manage this as well as multiple phone calls. When I ultimately asked to have my money refunded as I had no fait's I would ever receive these items, they told me they would only do store credit. on top of all this, when I made my original purchase, I was charged twice and they couldn't fix the issue so I had to my bank. I have filed a review with the Better Business Bureau. My strong recommendation is to steer clear of this business. I specifically visited their branch in Stratham NH. read more

I have had an impossible time finding quality wooden furniture anywhere, (I had been waiting for a set I ordered online since April!) and when I finally called them at Patio and Flame, he said he had exactly what I was looking for and I could bring it home the same day...yeah, right, is what I thought, but I went over anyway...and, dang! He had just the right thing, for just the right price, and I really did bring it home the same day; he gave me the option of taking it boxed, which meant it would fit in my car. Loved my experience at Patio and Flame and so excited that it decided to open it's doors in Kittery, Maine! They have an incredible variety of styles and colors to choose from that is all fairly priced. I was able to browse with out being bothered and got all they help I needed when I had questions! I purchased 3 Adirondack chairs that were so comfortable and sturdy! I do not want to paint and replace chairs every 2 years so I made sure I purchased the teak. These chairs do not look like they would fold up- but they do which makes it easy to store & protect them in the New England winters! I price shopped around and these chairs were a deal! I will be back to shop again for sure! read more
