I went to Patrice for a color correction consultation because she's supposed to be the best on Newbury Street. We talked a length about what could be done with the color mishap to my hair. She recommended that I use a clarifying shampoo for a month to lift some of the color out and come back to have her color my hair. When I returned, she didn't have enough time to take my appointment, so she had a junior stylist color and cut my hair. It was a disaster! The color washed out on the first washing with shampoo they sold me and he cut my hair in layers which made my thin hair look even thinner. This woman totally didn't care that I wanted her specifically to color my hair. I went back to complain and received a full refund, but the damage was done! This woman truly does care at all about her clients! Now, several months later, I'm going to try again with a different hair stylist. read more

She is a genius with color ... as well as kind, sweet and funny as hell. I am really picky about my hair as it goes from a darker blonde in the winter to nearly platinum in the Summer - and it's all the artistry from Patrice's color brush. So happy I stumbled onto her many years ago after reading a Best of Boston description. Everyone is super nice and it's a pleasant place to spend a few hours under dozens of foils. Google removed my review so I will post it here: I got my hair done here on March 3, 2021. It's been 1 year and 5 months since then. I've wanted to leave a review of my experience for a long time now, but it was such a terrible, upsetting (would it be dramatic to say traumatizing?) experience that I always felt I didn't have the emotional energy to explain it all in a review. Well here I am almost an entire year and a half later, still dealing with, and feeling bad about, the damage that has been caused to my hair. The stylist I had was named Nestor. I came in the day before for a consultation with him. He said he specializes in blondes or whatever. I wanted to bleach my previously colored (non virgin) hair blonde. He didn't ask about my hair history at all. I had offered to him that it was previously colored and somewhat damaged. He didn't seem to listen or care because when I came in the next day he decided to foil my whole head with no bond builder, no protection for my fragile hairs. He didn't warn me about anything, didn't disclaim anything in regard to my hair color goal, which was platinum. About half way through the service, he tells me a "ton" of my hair is falling out and that he's going to start using olaplex bond builder in the beach. Something that any hair stylist who gives a damn might have considered using to begin with. During the consultation I was quoted $350. Again, half way through the service, he tells me it's going to be $100 more, totaling to $450. He asked if this was "okay" as if I had any say, half way through the service, that the price has gone up $100. So at this point, I have lost a TON of hair, and have been charged $100 more for the service. Then he said I HAVE to buy the olaplex N.3 take home treatment from them or my hair would keep falling out. So add another $30 to my $450 bill. You would think that after legit making me lose about 50% of my hair (no I'm not exaggerating at all) that they would at the very least give me the take home treatment for free. But nope. There's a lot more I could say about Nestor but I'll just leave it at that. To top it all off, I go to pay, completely demoralized, and the guy at the front desk basically forced my hand to tip 20% on this service that I was SO unhappy with and that ended up costing $130 more (before tip!) than what I was quoted originally. So yeah I paid over $500 at a "fancy" Boston salon for completely f***** up beyond repair hair. This guy did not give a damn about my hair. I normally have very thick hair so after the service I didn't look bald or anything but I had lost so much hair it was unrecognizable, like someone else's head. I couldn't wear my hair down or straight because the breakage was soooo bad it looked like the world's worst mullet. About one month after the service I had to get my hair chopped to the shortest length it's ever been (right under the chin), and even after that, you could still see the broken hair and damage. I've babied my hair ever since that disaster. I've bought so many expensive products and now have a strict hair routine that minimizes all damage. Fortunately my hair grows fast and looks fine at a glance. But if you look closely or you know anything about hair, a whole year and a half later, you can still see all the hair that broke at the scalp, because it is about 7 or 8 inches long now, and much shorter than my ends. I have to style it in a specific way if i want it to look nice when I straighten it, still A WHOLE YEAR AND A HALF LATER. I could go on and on about how this experience had affected my mental health, since I have always had a strong love for my hair and it is a part of who I am and how I express myself. The salon owner came up to me right after I paid and quietly asked me if I liked my hair. I mean, she has eyes and probably could see how bad it was. (BTW my hair was 3 shades of blonde, had a yellow midsection band - the color was not good.) I was legitimately on the verge of tears and after a 6+ hour disastrous hair appointment I had absolutely no fight in me. I nodded my head and left. There's endless amounts of regrets here. I've retold the story to family and friends and I've teared up retelling it because I'm just so mad at myself and at them for allowing this to happen, especially at such an expensive, and seemingly high-rated salon. Everyone told me to leave a review and I haven't, saying "I just want to move on." Well, here I am on August 4, 2022, looking at my hair and feeling that same sense of dread I felt almost a year and a half ago. Seeing those layers of grown out broken hairs, having to see day after day the damage that only a lot of time can fix. If it wasn't obvious, I've never returned to this salon and I never plan to. I'm sure they have plenty of talented stylists there who do great work, but they really messed up with me. I am relieved to finally get this review done so that maybe a part of my resentment towards the situation can pass. read more

I wish I could give Yasmin 10/10 stars. She was truly amazing and really came to my hair rescue. I had gotten my hair colored back home in Texas just days before, but was really miserable with the color. Being that I had a special trip coming up in Boston, I didn't have time to get my hair fixed back home, so as soon as I landed in Boston, I called up the Patrice Vinci Salon and they were able to accommodate me that same afternoon. Before I go into the details of my visit, I would like to preface by saying my natural hair color is very dark brown. I've had two salon visits since July at my salon in Texas with the goal of getting to a honey blonde color. Neither of those visits achieved that color. So I came to Boston STILL as a brunette (albeit a much lighter brown with some blondish undertones in there), which was very disappointing considering all the time and money I had spent over the past couple months to become a true blond. But Yasmin came to my rescue!! She was running a few minutes behind but what I appreciated was how kind and attentive she was to me. She profusely apologized and her assistant made sure I was taken care of while I waited. No snooty attitudes here! I showed Yasmin some pictures of my color goal. As soon as she ran her fingers through my hair she knew EXACTLY what to do and went straight to work! Talk about efficient, she got everything done quickly and effectively. She's a true pro! Having been disappointed twice before back home, as she washed the color out in the sink, I was really reluctant to believe her when she said the color looked great. But when I walked back to her station, I WAS BLOND! And the perfect, warm shade of blond that I wanted to be. Not only was she on point with her work and professionalism, but she's just awesome as a human being. She has this soothing, gentle voice, and was a pleasure to chat with. I keep my hair pixie-ish and have been looking for a new hairdresser since my former hair dresser left Boston. After reading an article on the new pixie in which Dean Mellen was quoted I called to make an appointment. $130. OUCH is right! I let my hair grow out for 10 weeks, so there would be lots to work with, because I had another HORRIBLE experience with a student hairdresser at Bradley Diegel. Thinking "You get what you pay for." I was very excited to see Dean at Patrice Vinci Salon. He didn't start out on the right foot, never showing for my 10am appointment Saturday morning. After waiting for a half hour I needed to leave for another appointment across town. I rescheduled, BIG MISTAKE. I should have taken it as a sign from god, instead I thought I'll get the star treatment. WRONG! FUCKING CATASTROPHE, I should have said something when he started using the razors but I didn't, my fault I have fine hair and HATE the razors, he talked about texture and how it would be edgy not wispy. At the end of my hair cut he put on only what I now assume to be reading glasses, my heart started to race. It felt too short around my face and extremely lopsided which I mentioned in a round about way but I am glad he stopped cutting, there was weight and roundness at the crown like I had asked for, but I had no idea how bad it was till i got home. There are bald spots all around my face and my hair line is almost completely shaved around my face. I'm literally sick to my stomach as I write this. I haven't had a drink in 6 months and I want to down a bottle of tequila, it's worse than I could have possible imagined. DON'T LET DEAN MELLEN NEAR YOUR HAIR! read more

I have a rule about hair salons...actually, I'm pretty sure all women live by this rule: You should never feel less fabulous walking out of a salon than you do going in. And for me, getting a great haircut always makes me feel like a million bucks. I walked into Patrice Vinci today looking slightly disheveled from the rain, hair unwashed and with little to no clue as to what kind of cut I wanted. Clearly, I needed help. I was armed with a GetSugar coupon for a discounted cut with master stylist Rob and he was super nice. I was offered a beverage after settling into my seat for a quick consultation. We assessed my sad situation and he came up with a solid solution for taming my hair into submission. I like a man with a plan! As I was ushered to the shampooing station, I was delighted to see a large skylight directly above my head. Even with the overcast and rainy weather, it really was lovely. Way to go, architects! But back to my cut...It was super--it had all the layers I wanted and it was trimmed to a perfect length. The finishing touch was the blow dry, which takes extra time to do properly for long hair. I've had lesser stylists who just wave a dryer around my head furiously trying to dry it as fast as possible, while others blow it out straight with a brush. But Rob meticulously dried each section of my head with a round brush, and mid-way through, one of the salon employees walked by and commented that I had hit the lotto because apparently Rob is known for his superb blow drying skills! Well, I can indeed attest to the fact that it was probably hands down the best blowdry I've had in a long time--if not ever. When Rob was finished, it looked like he had taken a curling iron to my hair--amazing! I could never do this on my own, so I leave it to the professionals. If only my bank account could support a weekly blowout habit....well, a girl can dream, right? :) In the meantime, I have 2 referral cards for discounted cuts, so PM me if you'd like to check out Rob's styling skills for yourself! Dean Mellen has been my hairdresser for years. First at Mario Russo and now at Patrice Vinci. The salon itself is white, sparse and has plenty of natural light. Dean is a hair stylist and person extraordinaire. Yes, you may have to wait a bit for your haircut and it is not cheap, but it is worth it. I usually block 2 plus hours for a haircut with Dean. While you wait, the staff is great about offering you water or coffee. Cafe L'Aroma is downstairs and perfect for grabbing a latte. Magazines and comfortable seating are a plenty. Dean is hip and edgy in style (one day wearing red plaid pants and another day wearing a light tan leather vest paired with a faded 80s rock band tshirt), a fun conversationalist and more importantly, understanding of what his client needs from a haircut. For me, its change. I need to feel the difference in my hair when I exit the salon, whether it is short hair, layers, or bangs. Dean is perfect at working with that and always gives me a style that works well with my face. He also rolls with it; in response to him asking me what kind of haircut I wanted at my last visit, I responded vaguely, with "French hipster style". He gently posited, midway through my haircut, that the Brit hipster style is more fab (he is a little biased; after all, he trained in London). And he did create a hairstyle that fit that image. Dean also works in LA and New York, so it may be difficult to book an appointment. But everyone should be so lucky to experience a haircut with Dean. . read more

On my buywithme voucher it says that the deal applies to select stylists and boy, I lucked out, Friday the 13th and all. I requested for someone who specialized in short hair and to the receptionist. I think that meant whoever was the most inexperienced, an intuition anyone would get after letting someone handle your hair so roughly and clumsily. Although he was a pleasant fellow, my experience with Anson was just disappointing and sort of scary (below). I specifically requested and described in detail for an asymmetric bob, with the front being longer than the back and more volume at the crown. Sounds simple enough, right? I left with a haircut that was not entirely disastrous but lacking in technique. Let me explain what made my experience less than positive: Instead of lifting locks of hair up to snip, he roughly ran his comb down the nape of my neck and snipped it with the scissors against my neck. Not only did my scalp feel manhandled and sore, there were times I felt like I was in danger with the scissors touching my neck. To add on to that, I was appalled when he later brandished a 2 inch razor between his fingers and began carelessly (not artfully) slicing up and down my nape and neck. I barely moved a muscle in fear of my mortal life. Using a razor=flyaway, feathery hair. Who does that nowadays? He also cut my hair with the scissors horizontally across instead of an angle, leaving thick, chunky locks. I then I reminded him I wanted layers instead of chunky because I didn't fancy myself as a futuristic hacker chick. Again, he repeated what he did so I ended up with even more chunky hair. What was up with that? Towards the end, I just gave up and said to stop cutting to minimize the damage and he gave feeble last attempts at getting my bob the way I wanted it. The lip-service the receptionist gave me on how good I looked left a bitter taste in my mouth as I forced a smile and left. Thankfully my hair grows quickly. Everyone knows that competition on Newbury is brutal and vouchers are an excellent way of showcasing a salon and its talented staff...or exposing its weaknesses. I will most definitely not be back and do not recommend the salon to anyone. And if you do have to use up your vouchers, please do your research wisely (unlike me) and request for a suitable stylist. read more

I'm now visiting Patrice Vinci as my stylist has recently relocated there. I'm trying to focus my comments on the salon as opposed to the stylist (in part because I believe he is no longer accepting new clients). If the review was for my stylist it would be five stars all the way. The salon appears to have about 10 stylists working at during weekdays, I usually go in the late afternoon. There are times where I have visited where I do feel like it is organized chaos, sometimes more chaos and sometimes more organized. I feel like the salon could use a few more sinks, as there have been times where there is a wait for a wash. For me, the salon experience is all about the stylist and the relationship that you cultivate with that stylist. If I weren't devoted to my stylist, I might consider looking elsewhere. read more

One of my biggest regrets about moving away from Boston last month was leaving Johnny behind. It's a rare occasion when you can go into a salon and say "Do whatever you want -- I trust you," and that's exactly what I could do with Johnny. He is a master with hair color (especially blonde) and is one of the few stylists who understands that the trim really does just mean a trim. Johnny listens carefully to what his clients want, and he always takes it to the next level with his own touch. I highly recommend Johnny for anyone looking for the most natural, sun-kkissed blonde hair, and much more. I went to Patrice's salon last night for the first time. I had researched for a good colorist and boy oh boy did I find one! Patrice is first and foremost a great woman (interesting, fun, funny) and secondly a colorist G-d! We talked about what I wanted, she showed me what she thought woudl be good for me and my skin tone...we agreed on what to do and off we were. She did my color and it is the most natural color I have ever had. I am a natural red-head (now, naturally gray) and it is really hard to find a good red that looks natural. Patrice found it. I then had my hair cut by Keisha. Another fantastic woman. Again, we talked about what I wanted, what she thought......agreed and we were on our way. I love my cut; she totally listened to what I wanted and what I said I could do at home and it's perfect. There was a little mix-up on the cost, but it was resolved quickly and with great customer service. I WILL be back!!! read more

Wow. Wow. Wow. WOW. This is a very nice salon, but that's not the reason I'm giving it 5 stars. The hair stylist Roberto Echevarria (who has been working there for a while now), is simply the best thing that has ever happened to me and my hair. My Mother has been going to him to get her hair cut, styled and highlighted for more than 10 years, and she's the one who introduced me to him...the rest is history, as they say, is history. The man is just amazing. Not only is he nice, welcoming, funny and a good listener, but he knows exactly what to do with your hair -- how it should be styled, what sort of highlights you should have, etc. I trust no one else with my hair. The colors he uses to highlight my hair are beautiful and incredibly natural looking. I get so many compliments on my hair (and most people don't even guess that its been highlighted) and it's all because of Roberto. In an attempt to find a stylist I REALLY love I tried PV with a BuyWithMe. The salon is nice - I think they are trying a little too hard to be sexy but it was nice. When I booked my appointment I requested Stephen due to the reviews here on Yelp. Stephen was incredibly nice. I honestly really like the guy. I described what I didn't like about my current style and what I was hoping for and Stephen was awesome. He walked me through why my hair was doing this weird thing and why I probably didn't like it. He made a few suggestions - which I loved and then he told me what he was going to do. It sounded fabulous! I was sold and I thought I had found my new hair mate. The problem was my hair turned out bad. It did exactly what he told me it wouldn't do. I have long wavy hair and I hate when the layers end up giving me a pyramid head rather than long flowy, silky layers. I thought I might like it better as it grew out but I didn't. And he's a riot with his jet-setting stories. The whole staff at the salon is very friendly, and they treat you like a VIP. I'm a huge fan of Gilt as I'm not usually loyal to any hairstylist. I love changing hairstylists as I'm always curious to see how they cut and style my hair. Through Gilt, there was a promotion for a cut and blowout for this salon with Jordania. After looking at yelp and at the website, this looked like my kind of salon, it looked high end but not pretentious. I called and made an appointment for a Saturday, it was very straightforward and there wasn't a whole lot of going back and forth to find a time that would work. On the day of the appointment, it was easy to get to and once inside it was bit smaller than I expected but still very nice. I was given a robe type of thing to wear over my clothes. I met with Jordania and we had a short consultation, I told her I was pretty open but that I was indecisive as to whether I wanted to keep my hair short or if I wanted to grow it out. She suggested that since I didn't know, that she would cut the ends and give me more face framing layers. She was super nice and knowledge and when it came time to style my hair, she told me that since she was open she was going to do something different. She gave me a wavy bedhead type of style. At first, it took a few hours after the appointment to get used to it, but afterwards, I loved it. She gave me a card with a 20% off discount to use for a next service. I don't plan on getting my haircut again anytime soon, but would definitely come back to Jordania and this salon! read more

I've been going to Stephen Bruno and Annie Bulman for quite some time now. Maybe over a year? I have no idea. All I know is that I had moved to Boston and was in desperate need of a new stylist. My boyfriend bought me a buywithme coupon to try them out - and I haven't looked anywhere else since. I have naturally curly, fine hair and never seemed to end up with a cut that I truly liked. It always felt as though the ends were way too blunt, making me look like i had a pyramid on my head! And then, along came Stephen. He has transformed my curls into manageable, gorgeous, flowing layers. It is *exactly* what I have been looking for my entire life and never received until now! Not to mention, his personality is as fabulous as his craftsmanship. I truly look forward to our appointments - and hope that the rest of the salon doesn't mind when we get a bit rambunctious. Also, I cannot forget to mention the lovely Miss Annie Bulman. She doesn't listen to me, and thank god for that!! She knows what looks better on me than I do and I am always amazed at how awesome my color comes out. Every time. The ladies at the desk are always super nice and helpful. All of the assistants are always there to lend a hand or fetch some water. And I do believe the young man who gives the shampoo's may be the sweetest addition to the team. That shampoo makes my week. Oh wow, wow wow wow. I'm not normally the kind of girl to pay more than, oh, $40 for a haircut. And honestly, even $40 feels steep to me. Supercuts, or better yet, my mom's kitchen is more my speed. I'm not cheap (as you can see by all of the restaurants I frequent), I just don't care much about hair. That said, consider me converted. I went in armed with a Getsugar.com buy-color-get-a-cut-free coupon and an appointment. I was served coffee, but did have to wait about 20 minutes for my colorist. Oh well, she was great. Rose did my color, based off my eye color and whatever I told her, and it turned out absolutely gorgeous. But the highlight of my visit was Stephen, who not only has the best personality ever, but is just a hair master. Seriously, you can trust this man with your hair. He won't even do what you want if he doesn't think it would look good (and again, trust him, he knows). I let him cut me fresh bangs, and wow, even my bang-hating mother was impressed. 5 stars overall. My only tiny complaint? It could be a little more zen. The music was a bit annoying. read more

I came here once to see Larry and he did an amazing job! Love love love his work. Apparently he's a wonderful colorist also. This place is very professional. I'm not sure who washed my hair but the experience was amazing! I finally felt like I was at a real hair SALON, the washer did an incredible job massaging my temples and getting every inch of my hair. Don't expect regular prices from this place though, I believe I paid 140 before the tip and if Larry still did wash and presses, I would've been a loyal customer, but unfortunately he doesn't. I've been coming to Patrice for almost a year now. Walked in there with dark brown hair that was mixed with years of bad processed color. I met Jordania (HI JORDY!) and told her that I wanted to be "Gwen Stefani Blonde"... She looked at me like OH SHIT. 5 hours later, she did it. Not only did it come out amazing, my hair still looks healthy. Out of the dozens of salons I have tried up and down Newbury, South Boston, north of the city, etc. I have met ZERO stylists that can achieve what she can do. I have now been going back once a month for the last year, and have no plans on leaving any time soon. She is talented, kind, personable and professional. I had my first visit to the Patrice Vinci Salon today to see their new stylist, Luke Cirillo. Though I just got a blowout, it was styled exactly the way I wanted it. He was very easy to talk to and quickly understood the look I was going for. In addition, the front of house was extremely polite, as well as the assistants. The stylists working and the other clients being serviced all seemed to be content, good vibes. Will definitely come back for more than just a blowout next time:) read more

I got a haircut from a female stylist (not Patrice) a few months ago using a Buy With Me coupon. She was really nice and spent over an hour on my hair, which had been botched by a hairdresser at a different salon. I had let my hair grow out, and was hoping for a cute, short cut that framed my face. I pretty much told her I wanted a young, hip and cute cut, but what I ended up getting was more of a mom style haircut/reverse mullet--short in the back, long in the front. I was disappointed, but I didn't want to say anything, because it wasn't a bad cut, it just wasn't what I wanted. Everyone at the salon was super nice, though, and I may go again and try a different stylist, even if that does sort of feel a bit awkward...like going out on a date with a one night stand's best friend... read more

NESTOR is a -genius-!!!! I've been having highlights and color all my life. After going to a new colorist in a different city, I felt like I was wearing a wig. It was a disaster! I was miserable! Thank god I found Nestor. He literally rescued not only my hair, but me too. He knew immediately what to do. He gave me my hair back. I can't thank him enough. He's also the most wonderful human!
