They did a good job for a few years but this year outdid themselves on less than professional work…read more All papers were completed on 04/01/23. IRS was paid it's fee on 04/01. In the AM on 04/17- the last day to file, staff called panicked because the IP number was not included on the 1040. IP numbers are issued by IRS when identity theft occurs. In prior years IRS sends a new number. This year however, no number was sent, leaving me with the conclusion after 4 years, an IP number was no longer required. WRONG! Merck couldn't file the 1040 sans an IP. Merck knew that for the past 4 years an IP was included in all IRS tax forms; they did not raise the issue with me and proceeded in the absence of (a) finding out if an IP had been waived or (b) needed to issue. On the LAST DAY, Merck support staff ( not Shumen or another CPA) contacted me, panicked and with no idea whatsoever as to what to do. What the hell did I know!!! That's why M&S was hired! I spent over 11/2 hour trying to track down what needed doing. Of course no CPA was in the office including the fellow who prepared the papers. Well, I got the info, filed for a new # and then had to notify the staff. To add insult to injury, the check sent (thinking all had been filed, silly me) was never cashed!!!! Really incompetent. I will NEVER use them again and suggest others find another firm. It appears M&S didn't follow through, had incomplete info and almost set me up for a late filing fee.

I have filed online on my own before and so I knew that entire sections where deductions could have been entered were being skipped over by the woman helping me. I kept bringing it up and she said she'd go back and do it, then never did. She also told me that she had a certain number of codes to give out to her clients to reduce the fee that they had to pay H&R Block, but "Oops! She was out of them!" So why tell me? It seemed like she was just trying to make me feel bad. When all was said and done and I was about to leave, she told me how much I owed her and then told me that she was sorry she couldn't give me a receipt because the register tape had run out. I told her I wasn't leaving without a receipt so she wrote the number I had just paid her and nothing else on a piece of notepaper. I asked her where the printer was. It was out of paper but there was register tape sitting right next to it. I said "I will load this if I have to to get a printed receipt." She said "ok" and then another employee who was standing right there watching while talking on the phone said "You loaded the tape in backward". REALLY?! At least i was able to leave with a receipt in the end. Horrible, horrible experience and ridiculously bad customer service.

All they did was type in the information. I could have done my taxes online for free. Use Tax Act or any other free service. At H&R Block they don't try and find you any extra money or even tell you what it costs for their services until it's too late. Do NOT go to any H&R Block.

Worst experience in 50 years of filing my taxes with accountants. Turned in info in Feb. My taxes are not complicated. Called mid-March and was rudely told they would call me when they were done. Called April 13, no answer. Emailed, no answer. Show up on April 15 and they still had not done my taxes. They were planning to file an extension without asking me. I took back my info and went to H&R Block where they did my taxes in an hour. Do not use Padgett. Very unprofessional.
