We were debating whether or not to move forward with the process given all of the uncertainty with the COVID-19 virus, but are so unbelievably happy we did. No regrets! Brian, Alex, and the rest of the team are extremely professional, thorough, attentive, and precise with their work. They were also extremely careful and safe with "social distance" guidelines. Brian responded to my estimate request within 2 hours and came out within a 1-2 days. The estimate was far, clear and concise. They came on time and when they left there was nothing for me to clean up. In addition, they answered all my questions and provided written instructions to care for the floors. Here is a crazy thought Brian - do good work for the job at the beginning and you won't have to worry about fixing problems. "She came in through the bathroom window" (Lennon and…read moreMcCartney) Our house renovations continue and a small upstairs bathroom is our newest target. After we interviewed a few contractors, we decided to switch to Action Carpet and Floor Covering. Now I know what you're thinking because there's nothing in their name to suggest they do full bathroom make-overs, but they sure do. Their Chief Estimator Kevin came to the house, asked us what we had in mind, took a bunch or measurements and in a few days e-mailed us with two options. We had a few back and forth e-mails, made some adjustments, went into the store to select subway tile for the shower walls and a mosaic tile for the shower floor, and in a few days we were all set with an agreed price and scope. On Day One the old vanity, sink, and medicine cabinet were demolished, the toilet was detached to be reset after the floor was replaced, the old shower door, shower ceramic tiles and drywall were removed, the new shower pan and base were replaced, and replacement of the new water resistant sheetrock on the shower walls began. We had three workers here most of the day and they were an all business, no-nonsense group, arriving promptly as promised. They removed all of the debris and left the workspace pretty clean. On Day Two the ceramic subway tile was installed on the shower walls and the ceramic mosaic tile was installed on the shower floor. Grouting for both should be tomorrow. On Day three, the tile was grouted, the shower ceiling light was installed, and installation of the bead board paneling on the walls began. Day Four was a big day!! The showerhead and water valve control were installed, new light bar, vanity and countertop were installed, the new vinyl plank flooring was installed, as were new window casings and floor heat vent. Day Five saw the new medicine cabinet and faucet installed, towel bar, and water lines connected. The existing toilet and TP holder were reinstalled. This pretty much finished the job, but there were some minor unresolved delays with the shower door and shower soap tray. It took a while to iron out those things and we did have some sales tax adjustments on things that were ordered but not included in the final job. We want to give a special shout out to Todd (the primary rebuilding contractor) and his assistant Tim. They were fantastic, meticulous in their craft, and a real pleasure to work with.

The tile mechanic, Jose did a good job and was very accommodating and pleasant to work with. The floor refinishers were another story. Of the three workers he left on the job, one doing the edging continued working. The other worker listened to loud music, sat on the floor with a drink and loudly sang along with the radio and did a minimum amount of work. The drum sander was either inexperienced, untrained or careless because he started with a very coarse sandpaper but never moved to succeeding grits of finer sandpapers, which left deep scratch marks in the hardwood. As a retired CT licensed home inspector and licensed home improvement contractor, I felt qualified to evaluate this job. When I explained to Miguel why I wasn't happy with the job and asked him to re-sand the floor he refused and came back the next morning to add another coat of finish which did nothing to smooth out the scratches. When he returned the following day, I told him the floor was no better and again asked him to re-sand the floors which he again refused. I subsequently hired another floor refinisher who correctly re-sanded the floors and they came out beautiful. Two days later Miguel called me for a final payment. I told him I had fired him and hired another company to redo his job. He threatened to go into the house and rip out all the tile. I immediately called Meriden Police and explained what had happened and they called Miguel and told him if he entered the house he would be arrested, whereupon he left the property. In addition, Miguel left many bags of sawdust, tile and tile cement on the front lawn and in the house which he had promised to remove. I cannot recommend this company.

I had that quote beefier the end of the business day emailed to me! I called him on Wednesday evening to accept the quote and schedule for a couple of weeks out (his first available opening). He called back the next day to let me know that he got the message. He also asked if I wanted to have the work performed the following Wednesday since he had an opening become available but understood if o wished to wait until the original date thy he provided since some heavy furniture needed to move. I told him the sooner the better. His crew was there that Wednesday morning. They covered everything in plastic, went over a few things with me and i asked them to wood fill 2 small splintered areas which they did. By Friday, the 3rd coat of polyurethane was down and they removed all the plastic except on 2 doorways which I asked them to leave up. Minimal dust compared to previous jobs at other places I have owned. Cabinets, countertops and mounted television were all covered. The crew vacuumed several times as well. Floors look very nice. I highly recommend Charter Oak Flooring. I have several people that will be reaching out to him for quotes already after my experience.
