This is a long overdue review, having used Patrick's Pet Care's services for a year and a half now. I went back to work after being a stay-at-home dad for my pup and wanted to find a company that I can trust. Initially met Patrick for a meet and greet, and have used his services ever since. They've gone through some improvements, they use petcheck technology now to scan in/out, and tell you how the walk went. I've always appreciated these little notes, gives it a personal touch since anyone can just walk your dog, but it's a little extra to hear the details, what your dog tried to chase this time, what they did, etc. My dog's current walker Luke has been great with Damon. He's taught him to walk better on the leash since he tends to pull which can be rough, with him being a boxer. But Damon do enjoy their walks, and love Luke judging from how excited he gets when Luke arrives. I've used the boarding service for the first time as well, went smooth overall and it's nice knowing my dog's just a few blocks over, and I'm sure enjoying his fellow canines. PPC has been caring for my precious dog, Cooper, for almost two years and I feel very fortunate to have found such a great company for day care, walking, and boarding. I travel often for work, often with very limited notice, and PPC is always able to accommodate my erratic schedule to line up extra walks, a night at the BnB, or day care. I trust them completely, and love that Cooper is treated like a member of the PPC family. Cooper is a regular at the small dog day care, and the staff are very attentive. I particularly love how clean the day care facility is -- the dogs are taken out for walks and bathroom breaks, so the day care smells fresh and clean (and Cooper comes back smelling great too). The Nest cam at the day care is also a great plus, so I can check in on him throughout the day. I know how scary it can be to leave a new puppy in the care of strangers, and I've recommended PPC to all of my friends with new dogs. read more

Amazing and professional staff that go above and beyond. I have two rescue pups with a history of abuse who need extensive attention. Up until finding Patrick's Pet Care, bath time was horrible and nail clipping was impossible. Over the course of just three visits, my pups now look forward to going to the groomers. I had a fairly last-minute need to board my cat after the person who agreed to pet-sit suddenly bailed on me. I boarded my cat with Patrick's Pet Care in large part because it was walking distance to where I live. The employees who watched Fry (my cat) were very friendly and sent me updates on how he was doing, if he had eaten, etc. I will absolutely use their services again if I need to board my cat. read more

We found Patrick's Pet Care after our normal pet care company fell through less than a week before we were leaving on an international trip. One of the reasons we followed up with Patrick's is because it's employees are actually employees (as opposed to contractors) and that it pays a living wage. We contacted Patrick's Pet Care on a Sunday morning and had a response within an hour saying they could help us out. The very same day Melissa, the manager, stopped by our apartment to meet our two cats. Melissa's responsiveness and attentiveness instantly made us feel better and assured us that our cats would be well taken care of. And they were well taken care of for the duration of our trip. Whether it was Melissa herself or another one of their sitters, we felt like Patrick's treated our cats as if they were their own. After each visit, we received a detailed readout of the visit and several pictures. We really liked how they would even send pictures of their food and water bowls. Patrick's definitely went above and beyond the normal feeding and care and spent time playing, brushing, and generally loving our cats. Being overseas and seeing this kind of service made us feel so much better and know eased some of the anxiety our cats felt. We also really liked the app/website Patrick's uses to send its daily updates. We did have some problems accessing the app itself overseas, the website worked just fine. We liked the fact we could add comments to each day that the sitter would respond to. Bottom line: Patrick's is fantastic, and its service is great. Patrick's will become our primary cat sitter. read more

Patrick's is hands down the best pet care business you could ever hope to find. Patrick and all of the staff are incredibly attentive, friendly, flexible, and on-the-ball, and they genuinely love the pets. I worked with them for two and a half years -- from the time I adopted my dog Bodie until I recently moved -- both for daily walks and overnight boarding. Bodie became part of the Patrick's family; they knew all of his habits and quirks and enjoyed his goofy personality as much as I do, which is a staggering amount. I trusted and enjoyed working with Patrick's so much that when I moved apartments in DC staying within the neighborhoods they service was a top priority for me. Pretty disappointed with Patrick's Pet Care. I brought my dog to the Brookland Facility and could not believe how small the play area was!!!! The dogs do not have room to run and play it is more what I would call a dog lounge. I live in a 600 sq ft apartment and I felt like bringing my dog here or keeping her at home was more or less the same. If I am going to be paying for daycare which is not cheap I expect that my dog will have ample room to run and play and get her energy out. This is not the case at all. Another MAJOR turn off is that the receptionist desk is practically in the play area with the dogs. You walk into a small standing area up to a countertop which is caged in where the receptionist works and there are small dogs in there with them. That tiny space is connected to the gate entrance to the "play area". So when you walk in, you are greeted by 20+ dogs ALL barking at you and you have to shout to have a conversation with the receptionist. Absolute chaos it's extremely annoying, stresses out my dog and impossible to have a calm conversation with the staff. You feel rushed out of there and when you try and talk to them they act like you are annoying them like they want you to just hand over the dog and leave. They also don't seem to really have control over any of the dogs. When I dropped off my dog for an assessment and asked if I could have a tour of the facility they said I could go around the back alley and enter through the back if I wanted to see the overnight boarding area but that the play area is right here and that there really wasn't more to see. They tell you that you have to go outside and come through the back because otherwise you have to walk through the area with all of the dogs which is absolutely not ok!!?!? I do not want to have 20 dogs jumping on me to have a tour. So I didn't get a tour. When I came back later that day to pick up my dog a different staff member was working there than when I had dropped her off, which is fine I'm sure they switched shifts, but I asked him how did the assessment go and he just handed me a card. The card was just a list of questions like energy level: low, high. Do they respond to their name: yes, no etc. Very, very impersonal I didn't get to have a real conversation about how it went with any of the staff. You really feel like you just drop them off have no idea what really goes on in this place and pick her up and hope that she was ok and have to just kind of gauge how she's doing based on your dogs behavior. My dog loves other dogs and she seemed happy when I picked her up and I didn't feel like she was in actual danger so I made the mistake of having her boarded overnight because I had a business trip coming up and they were voted DC's best the previous two years so I thought maybe I'm being a little harsh. Well the webcams that they say you can access don't work at all. She also got kennel cough and had to be quarantined. She was not sick when I dropped her off so they clearly allow other dogs to be there even if sick. When I picked her up (again from the back alley) she looked like a completely different dog. Her eyes were cloudy, she was wet for some reason? and she had lost weight I could see her ribs. It was very alarming. I had to take her to the vet and get her on antibiotics. I have no idea what happened to her while she was there, how much time she was crated and how much time she actually got to play with other dogs but will never be returning. I also used them for cat care where they come to your home to feed your cats and scoop the litter box during the same time my dog was boarded. This was a better experience although I was not informed that multiple people would be coming and going. The person who came into my home to get the keys and instruction was not the same person who would be doing the work. So I never got to meet the person who would be entering my house when I wasn't there and then it was clear that one or two other people had done the job as well because when you check the email from whoever went that day it was from someone different a few times. I was not informed that this is how it works. This is not ok. If something had happened and I had to identify someone to the police I would have no clue who was in my house when I was gone or if they brought anyone with them. Also when they scooped the litter they only scooped the poop out of the box not the urine. You would think a company that works with animals would know how to properly scoop a litter box. I would use this company if it was an absolute emergency as scheduling was a smooth process and nothing seriously bad happened to my pets but if you value your pets care and don't want to waste your money there are plenty of other pet care services in DC that do a MUCH better job. read more

Best pet-sitting service in Columbia Heights. They have been taking care of my two cats every time I go on vacation for more than a year now. They're extremely reliable and go above and beyond to provide clear communication and customer service. They also make it really easy to schedule visits, even on short notice. Prices are about average for DC pet sitting, but Patrick's tends to be easier to use than competing services. I'll be using Patrick's for as long as I'm in Columbia Heights. read more

My anxious rescue pup Pippa and I have been absolutely thrilled with Patrick's. Pippa requires routine, reliability, and extra comfort, patience, and care-all of which Patrick's provides in spades. First we used Evelyn, who was absolutely wonderful (we requested she follow us to our new apartment, which she did.) When Evelyn had to switch the reigns over to Cecilia, we were nervous, but Cecilia was every bit as accommodating, reliable, and nurturing. I highly recommend Patrick's Pet Care. I used their petting sitting services for my kitty, little one, while on vacation. They are detail oriented, thorough, responsive and provided personal, fun and caring services. Ariana was our primary sitter and she sent personal sitter comments with pictures. Her comments were so sweet and thoughtful - I started to look forward to them while I was away. The sitters even watered my plants and brought in my mail! I plan to use Patrick's again for future trips and I know my kitty will be in good hands. This review is for Patrick's daycare specifically. I've been bringing my dog to Patrick's a few times a week for daycare since June 2016. I can tell my dog enjoys Patrick's because she pulls me to the door in the morning, and falls soundly asleep almost immediately after walking in the door in the evening. That's typically enough for a five star review in my book - if my dog is happy, then I am happy. However, if I could give a six star rating, I would, because Patrick has gone above and beyond in providing a service that I am absolutely thrilled with. In no particular order... Patrick's provides a safe environment for my pup. With previous daycares, I would occasionally find a scratch or other minor injury on my dog, but I'd usually discover this later and I definitely was not given any context for how this happened (yes, I know that dogs play and may get rough, but it can still be a disconcerting discovery). At Patrick's, I've never so much as found a hair out of place on my pup, let alone an injury. The daycare area is well supervised, and I know that there's always someone present and actually engaging with the dogs. Patrick's also has a high quality webcam that I can check throughout the day - it's fun being able to sit on a conference call with a live stream of my dog on my computer! Patrick sends detailed emails with pictures every single day. This is not just a form checklist - it's an actual description of what my dog has been up to all day. I've been sending my dog to Patrick's for ten months now and there has not been a repeat; this means that Patrick's staff actually cares enough to write eloquent and often multiple paragraphs about my dog - and that they are paying enough attention to my pup to know what's actually happening! It's clear from these emails - and really, from all interactions with Patrick's staff - just how much they care. A huge perk of Patrick's is that the daycare dogs actually get taken out for walks - no extra fees for potty breaks! This means that (1) there is absolutely no chemical smell to the place and my dog comes home smelling like a rose rather than needing a bath, and (2) I know that my dog has been outside on at least 2-3 walks during the day. In addition to the time outside, Patrick's huge bay window is super cute - my dog's favorite spot to snooze is up there - and also provides excellent natural light. I don't feel like I'm sending my dog to a windowless dungeon for the day. There are a number of cute touches, like sheepskin beds and filtered water, that I appreciate - Patrick's is definitely a boutique daycare that has really thought of everything. Booking is done via a user friendly online portal, and all billing is paperless and completely seamless. There also is a direct number for curbside pick up/drop off service - but I don't actually use this service because I enjoy coming inside to say hi to the friendly staff. Lastly, and probably most importantly, Patrick and his team have always been incredibly responsive in their communications. The level of customer service provided is truly exceptional. Overall, I would highly, highly recommend Patrick's daycare to anyone that is looking for a safe and reliable place for your dog to socialize and play (and nap in the sun!) all day. read more

I attempted to schedule boarding for my dog and it took Patrick's a month to get back to me! They acted as if no response for a month was normal and mentioned that they had availability. The customer service here is awful; no response for a month and when they finally respond, they are unhelpful. Additionally, the owner has no customer service skills and becomes really defensive at any mention of wrongdoing. read more

I love being able to watch Gemma on the webcam, it's fun to watch her play and I know she's having a great time. I've been using Patrick's dog walking service since I adopted my dog . I'm so happy with their service. I contacted Patrick's when I adopted her on a Saturday asking to be put on the schedule for Monday. Not only did they make sure to get our walks set up but Patrick came over on Sunday to meet my dog and assure me that she would be taken care of. I also love the app they use to send me reports of the daily walks. I also did four private training sessions with Chris hoping to work on a few basic commands. He made an afterwork chore fun and was patient and encouraging in training me to train my dog. . highly recommend Patrick's! I reached out to Patrick for dog walking services. He was not immediately responsive, so I sent a follow up email. He apologized that he didn't see the email. I accepted the apology as I've missed emails before. He sent me a 13 page contract which was more heavily sided with protecting his business than protecting my furry kid. I emailed him some simple questions regarding the contract for clarity, and he responded that he no longer wanted to consider me as a client. That response made me feel as if I dodged a bullet and the welfare of my dog was not jeopardized. The response was clearly unprofessional and not someone I would confine in walking my pup. In the end, you should always be careful with whom you invite willingly give keys to your home. read more

When my husband and I were away for an extended amount of time he and his staff left us daily notes of the cats and dogs experiences. It was quite fun and let us know that they care. Train and Board Program I moved to the area at the beginning of October 2017 and was looking for a training program for my fur baby. We moved from the rural midwest to the metropolitan area of DC. I worked with Patrick and Chris to talk through exactly what I was looking for and what my goals were for my dog.They really listened to what I needed and found a way to accommodate us. After many emails, we set up a time to meet in person. At our meet and greet, Chris was extremely polite and attentive and was awesome with my dog. I was extremely comfortable with him training techniques and was very excited to get started with the program. I had very specific instructions for my dogs daily routine and they had no problem with following my instructions. My dog was at the train and board for 3 weeks. Chris sent me updates every day on the status of my dog's training along with many photos. When I had any questions or concerns, I heard back quickly. Chris's training techniques were very effective for my dog and I couldn't be happier with how he did, thanks to Chris's guidance. When I picked up my pup at the end of the program, he had been given a bath and all his belongings were washed and neatly packed up. Chris spent over an hour with me, going over everything my dog learned and how to bring these techniques home to continue his training. He also emailed me details notes so I could reference back to them if I had any questions. Chris has continued to check in and when I go out of town for work, I will definitely be sending him back to Patrick's Pet Care to stay and brush up on his training. Every person I worked with at Patrick's Pet Care was absolutely wonderful and they genuinely care about the animals they're caring for. Cats seemed happier with him than with us:) Patrick was very punctual and extremely accommodating. And, lastly, he is truly a godsend to have in this neighbourhood! I would normally have friends check on my cat but I'm new to the area and don't really have any friends conveniently located by my apartment. I found Patrick through yelp and he was a life saver! Patrick and Steve (walker) have been wonderful. We've had 2 foster dogs using their walking services. They are flexible and accommodating at all times, are on top of communication, and a delight to work with. They use Pet Check technology, an online service that allows me to see when the walk started and ended, a note on my pup, and a map of the walk. Once, our dog left a HUGE mess (poop, trash, the works!) and Steve was so wonderful to clean it up. Totally unnecessary but an example of how awesome they have been. Definitely recommend! read more

After reading great reviews on Yelp, I arranged for Patrick to take care of my cat over Thanksgiving. He responded promptly to all of my emails and came a few weeks before I left to meet my cat and get keys and instructions. He was clearly very at ease with my cat, who happily followed him around and played with him. He came to my house twice a day to feed and visit my cat and he checked in with me daily and sent me pictures of him. Patrick has watched my cats twice, and I've been extremely happy with his service. I am a neurotic weirdo about my cats, and it means a lot to me that Patrick is totally up for sending photo updates of my cats and that he also hangs out and plays with them. Patrick's has become extended family for us and our pup Duncan. He's a rescue and very cautious with new people and in new situations. Duncan started out in Daycare 101 (Brookland) to learn the ropes and get used to being around other dogs. Joe and Melissa could not have been more supportive and helpful, giving us pointers on grooming Duncan and going above and beyond. Duncan graduated to Montessori, Patrick's team continues to impress us with their support going out of their way to keep Duncan and his friends engaged and keeping us in the loop with daily video report cards. Adrianna, Emma, Patrick, Melissa, and Joe are an a plus team. We especially appreciate the fear free foundation which we use for training. The team is also helping us get Duncan acclimated to grooming which is a big help to us. We trust Patrick's team with Duncan and he loves everyone there so much that sometimes we have to carry him away from the door. Prices are reasonable and we feel fortunate to have the opportunity to bring Duncan to Patrick's. through COVID, the team has clearly and transparently communicated everything from hours changes to pickup protocols. The activities are so creative - dance parties, star wars light saber competitions, and obstacle courses enrich Duncan and tire him out too. We hope the team re-opens for boarding as they would be our #1 choice! We could not recommend Patrick's more - thank you for everything! read more

Okay.....fair warning....I'm about to gush!!! My dog is a rescue. He was rescued from a TERRIBLE puppy mill when he was 10 months.....soooo....he has some issues. AND he's a French bulldog.....so there's that too!! I put Blue in daycare at Patrick's about a year before the pandemic and he did GREAT. He loved going and I truly didn't think it could get any better. Fast forward to the pandemic and Patrick has somehow made this amazing place EVEN BETTER!!! Blue loooooves going to Montessori School and I think that's largely due to his amazing teacher Emma. She is amazing with Blue. She loves him almost as much as I do. She is also an amazing trainer!!! Blue has learned so much from her. As the Mom of a "baby" with some special behavioral needs I truly could not be more lucky to have Patrick's and Emma. And, added bonus, Blue is exhausted when he gets home. Bring your fur-babies here!! They will be cherished and tended to exactly as you would hope! read more
