It took a while and a lot of resubmitting. We were at our wits' end. We finally secured some benefits for my mother after my father passed.

From the beginning, they were organized, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable about the complexities of the VA system.

I lost my sweet mother 2 weeks ago while under the care of senior helpers. First - her caregiver -…read moreLiberty - was a sweetheart and was very kind to my mom. I know the experience was hard for her. But this review is about the company and lack of any compassion whatsoever from their leadership and the lack of training they give to their caregivers. Did you know they do it have them trained in basic first aid and CPR? I didn't know this. They will tell you they are non medical. I own a daycare center - we are also non medical however every single teacher is trained in first aid and CPR. Every single person in my family is trained in first aid and CPR. Anyway - I sent a text to their client relations coordinator - Amy Jo - the day after her passing. I heard nothing back for 5 days. I wanted to thank them and give them some feedback that I thought would be helpful so I called their director of operations - Brooke. They put me on hold for quite awhile and came back and said - umm she appears to be in a meeting and will call you as soon as she's out. It's 8 am. I get a call from Amy Jo at 9 asking why I want to speak to Brooke and wanting me to just tell her so she can pass along the info. I said thank you but that I would just wait for Brooke. (Amy Jo never gave me her condolences or even mentioned my mother's passing) I called back at 11 and put on hold and again - Brooke is in a meeting she will call you back. I call back at 3:45 and new person answers and I ask for Brooke and they tell me yes please hold but ask who's calling. When I say my name the tone changes and puts me on hold. Come back - yep - you guessed it - Brookes in a meeting and will call me back. I said - wow, that's one long meeting. This was met with nervous laughter. Brooke calls me back about 15 minutes later. She sounds very nervous and proceeds to give excuses why she's not called me back. Tells me she's off site at meetings. Which is odd since every person who answered the phone told me she was in the office. She wants to know why I am calling and I asked if she knew about what had happened and she says - your mother's passing? I said yes and she says - well first - we are sorry for your loss. First? Pretty sure first was avoiding me , second was excuses and this happened 5 days ago and you knew and you as the director of operations did not reach out. I didn't say that tho I just said thank you. I thanked her for Liberty's kindness and asked if they trained their caregivers in basic first aid and CPR? She said - no we are non medical. I suggested they add that to their basic training. I also told her that I had never heard from any of them and she said how unusual that was. Later she called my sister and said this was the first time they'd ever lost a client. And claimed they never got my text. However in the next breath was told it "slipped their mind" to reach out. You're called senior helpers. Seniors - and you don't think it's wise to be trained in basic first aid and CPR or have any protocol for emergencies. Fortunately for us I called my workers when I got the call from Liberty and they were there to start CPR in 4 minutes from my mom's collapse. We have cameras in the house - during those 4 minutes their caregiver stood with her hands in her pockets - . My employees quick action gave us the chance to tell my mom goodbye before she passed. I just want others to know when using this service - 1. No basic first aid and CPR will be done if your loved one has an emergency - even babysitters (good ones) have this training 2. The complete lack of care and compassion was shocking to me. A simple - sorry for your loss - would have gone a long way. I am very disappointed in their entire organization and hope they do better in the future. Their website says "peace of mind" - I do not agree at all.

Ms. Jackson was originally very helpful in setting up a conservatorship. However, once my father…read morepassed away and it was time to do the final filings, she was completely absent. For a year Ms. Jackson and her staff would claim that the filing was almost done they just needed "one last thing" from me. I would provide the requested documents (sometimes having to take time off work to do so) and then wouldn't hear from her for weeks; when I would have to send multiple emails only to get a response asking for "one more thing". So I'd have take time off work to go get bank records, then she'd say she needed something else and I would have to take off work again to go back to the bank again. And to be clear - these requests were for documents that presumably would have been required all the previous times she said the filing was ready. After half a dozen rounds of this back and forth, Ms. Jackson finally said she had everything and the filing would be complete in 10 business days. Three and a half weeks later and not only is the filing still incomplete, Ms. Jackson hasn't even had the courtesy to answer follow-up emails asking for a status update.

At this time, I'm graciously giving Graceful Aging Legal Services and April Jackson a one star…read morerating. My mom retained April several weeks ago, and since retaining her, she's not provided any updated information regarding where we are in the process OR returned the several phone calls and messages made to her. Although we know our family isn't the only clientele this office is providing services to, we do expect the bare minimum of a returned phone call. After waiting a week for a returned call, I called the office to speak with April Jackson and she was unavailable. Additionally, it was suggested that I could schedule a consultation with her for the following week. The consultation was already held, an hour long detailed conversation had, and a 300 dollar retainer paid, and my family can't get a returned phone call, from April Jackson, for a 5 minute update about what's going on. Hopefully, we will get a returned call with any updated information soon. Update: Although our family as yet to receive a returned call or message from April, she took the time to respond to my Google review. Still awaiting a call back, April. We've called as recently as today, at 2:11 pm, not including the multiple times we attempted to make contact with her, last week. We were told she was unavailable, but she sure had the time to respond publicly, via Google. My review is legitimate, and the lack of care speaks volumes. To anyone attempting to get family affairs in order, on behalf of their loved ones, I highly recommend looking elsewhere.
