PA is a legit org, but signing up with them is a major gamble. We paid $1500 for the required eligibility evaluation (clearly marked as nonrefundable in the contract), which consisted of sending in a bunch of paperwork. There's no possible way reviewing that paperwork is $1500 worth of labor; maybe a thorough review might take 30-45 minutes. Let's be generous and assume that someone spent an hour reviewing documents. That's a pretty good hourly rate. Then my father died. So, no refund. I do believe PA is a legit org, but their business model requires you to hope your vet doesn't die anytime soon. read more

Last year (2025) I decided it was time to start searching for a place for my widowed dad of 94 yrs old. I started looking at several Independent Senior Living communities since he is still VERY independent! Still drives & still cuts hair as a barber! No meds!! Anyway several of the places I visited mentioned I should reach out to Patriot Angels since he's a Korean War Vet. From the first call to 3-4 months later, EVERY SINGLE person I talked to were FANTASTIC!! Yes, they charge for submitting an application because it is A LOT of paperwork and basically they go up to bat for you with the VA. I admit I was nervous & the wait was long but it was worth it!! My dad got approved because he was a vet during a war time era and wow! What a blessing!! We sold his home & found a great place for him that offers a good size apt with a full kitchen, 3 meals a day in their dining room, a mini gym, pool, theatre, library & more!! They do not disclose that if Medicaid is brought in, the patient is only entitled to $90 and it's sales practices are unethical in my opinion. I have had conversations with them over the past couple of years and this was never mentioned. NEVER would I have giving them $1200 had I known. The outcome was quite different for the bill of goods I was sold. The outcome that was explained to me was they would work with the VA to get the full benefit minus a $200 fee per month. That would be $1500 a month towards her care. Now it's $90. They have their legal ways of getting around this I'm sure. I would like to here from others who may feel the same way and would consider a class action suit for unethical sales practices and lack of disclosure. This can be done through the BBB. read more

PA is a money grab! Paid the $1500 fee and still had to do most of the legwork. Long story short, my father died within a month of starting the process and they wouldn't refund any of the money. When I say 'starting the process' I mean they literally did nothing except send me a list of what information was needed, that's it! In the midst of gathering all the documentations requested, my father was actively dying under hospice care. This was an unbelievably stressful time in which PA didn't make any easier. Hi, I called Patriots Angeles for help with a request to move in to Senior Assistant Living. They were very good at first. They requested $1,500 to process my account, I paid right away. I only have a phone so they sent me papers to sign and return to them. As I checked Assistant Living They would not except my Certificate Servive Dog med size. After sending to Patriots some documents by email, I sent request to see if they were receiving my documents, no answer this went on and I still have to receive any help except yesterday after I started complaining. My husband 30 years USNavy and veteran. I am asking for half the money back which I think is fare. I am on Social Security only after imI lost my husband 5 years ago. I can't say enough good things about how the people at Patriot Angels were 1st class, professional and caring. I contacted them for help filing & submitting the mountain of documents to the VA to get the benefits she was due as a surviving widow of a WWII veteran ... and they helped me secure the maximum monthly payout for my 101 year old mother's care! AND, there is also a lump sum deposit retroactive to the day they filed! Is there an upfront fee? yes. Do you have to 'trust them'? Yes....but they know what they are doing (we don't) and their amazingly high success rate speaks for itself. 'Help them help you' by getting the info & docs they need to file everything all at once & be prepared to wait a bit. I recall hearing that they typically get the determination from the VA in 3-5 months from filing. We waiting 8 months but the wait was worth it! Just one month's payout to Mom is more than their fee, and the RETROACIVE lump sum is a wonderful "surprise". The VA/ government takes it's time, but you will get once a month communication from Patriots Angels letting you know what they have heard from the VA. It took a while and a lot of resubmitting. We were at our wits' end. We finally secured some benefits for my mother after my father passed.

Patriot Angels deserves a negative star. They take your money in advance, the first bad sign, and they do very little after that. They lose documents, do not return phone calls, have different people working on your claim who know little or nothing about your claim and on and on. This dragged on from Nov 2023 to Julyof 2025 and was then refused even though it is crystal clear the survivor assisted benefit should have been paid. They even claimed Trump's recent cutbacks were to blame despite only being a couple of months old. Lastly, when you hear kids yelling and raising a ruckus while you have them on the phone, you can pretty much know that's not good. They had eight months to get this done, before her passing in July 2024. I don't know how these people justify their fee. This company is a disgrace to all veterans and should be investigated. They are deliberately delaying this process and dragging it out as long as humanly possible. So now we are not only out the $1,300 paid to Patriot Angels (talk about a misnomer), but we are out the rough 14k benefit my mother-in-law was due. I would recommend working directly with the VA on any claim you expect to be approved. Avoid Patriot Angels and save the fee and frustration that they cause. read more

I would not recommend Patriot Angels. I was told in December of 23 my mother would qualify for my fathers VA benefits and it would take 90-120 days, as of today, we are still waiting. All they say is when they have to resubmit paperwork, (which they themselves screwed up) it takes longer. A Place for Mom and my mother's Independent Living Facility recommended them and I could not be more disappointed. We are out $1200 for something we could have done ourselves. As much as I don't like doing something like this, I feel I have to. Patriot Angels without a doubt in my opinion is a predatory organization. During the initial contacts with PA I was told my mother was qualified for survivor benefits as a surviving spouse even though after 45 years of marriage she was divorced by my father who is a Vet. I had even questioned PA about my mother's eligibility because they had divorced and was told that because they were married more than one year that she was still eligible. I questioned this several times over the phone with PA. It was not discussed once I paid the attorney retention and worked through the process of providing the required documents for PA to process the claim. PA was %100 aware that a divorce had taken place. I had even had an amendment done to my dad's death certificate on the request of PA to show that he was divorced and had not remarried. Long story short, approximately 1 year after starting the process and at the final stages of providing documentation, I was told she is not eligible because she was divorced from my day. Unfortunately when I started this process the impression I had with PA was it is a great organization with a priority of helping veterans obtain a qualified benefit. But the reality is it's the same as many organizations who prey on veterans and surviving spouses for profit. Lesson learned go direct with the VA, it maybe a longer process but at least you are not working with people who are just out to make money and are not misleading. read more

They "expedited " my mothers because she was 94 years old. Unfortunately, my mother passed away 6 months after we started the process and she never received a single payment. PA told us they would pay for the Celebration of Life and her cremation but after I submitted the receipts for it they were very selective about what they paid. We did get back most of the fee we paid them for her cremation. It is sad that they prey on our Veterans and their families. I contacted this company in July 2025 after a hospice employee told me they could help with my Mother's high bill each month for a retirement home. She is the widow of a vet who served in Korea. A few calls later and they said my Mom would qualify for at least $1,500 a month in assistance from the VA. Even after I told them she was in hospice and wasn't expected to live long, they assured they could help. After naively putting my initials on the website contract, I had the final call with someone to complete the process. What they did not tell me initially was all the onerous paperwork needed to apply for the benefit, some of which I would never have access to because my mother is catatonic and my father is deceased. In addition, they would not have the benefits available for three months! I told them I would not proceed and asked to cancel. (My mom is in advanced stages) They pursued my credit card charge ($1400) and I contested it. CC company just settled in their favor. Although I initially agreed to the benefit, I believe they were misleading in describing what it would take to acquire the benefit. I will spend my days telling the truth to everyone how much this company compares to a crooked politician promising results but hiding relevant facts. read more

I absolutely 100% do not recommend Patriot Angels. It has been a couple of years since dealing with this nightmare of a company. It has taken me this long to recover from what happened. I can assure you that they are only in it for the money and will do everything possible to delay the process as long as possible in hopes that your loved one passes away before they must pay a dime. I had the same experience as the other reviewers, probably much worse. They constantly make mistakes in the paperwork which causes ridiculously extensive delays only for them to make excuse after excuse. It was so frustrating dealing with how indifferent they were about everything. All the while I was dealing with taking care of my loved one while working full time. We paid Patriot Angels due to their big promises and that we thought it would release some of the stress we were going through. Nope! Dealing with them doubled the stress. We could have done the paperwork ourselves and completed it much faster without the headache of their constant mistakes. Here is the worst part of it all. The day my loved one passed away I had to rush to the care home to be there. It was very traumatic for me. Then when I got home that night, I opened my email to see if I had anything from my job because I had left early from work that day due to the emergency, and what did I see, an email from Patriot Angles saying they had completed the paperwork and just needed my loved one's signature to finalize everything. SERIOUSLY? The email arrived one hour after my loved on passed away. This was about two years' worth of work, and they finished it the day my loved one passed away. Talk about kicking someone when they're down. This company is a disgrace to all veterans and should be investigated. They are deliberately delaying this process and dragging it out as long as humanly possible in the hopes the person passes away, so they don't have to pay, but you better believe they received their money and ensure there are NO refunds. We paid $1300 and got absolutely nothing back from them. Not even a call to say sorry to hear about your loved one. How they can sleep at night with the shady way they do business is shocking. My experience with PA was much like the other reviews. PA was recommended to me by my father's assisted living facility. I had started working on the Aid & Attendance application, but it's an immensely tedious process, especially while also trying to care for a parent on top of the rest of life. Because the facility recommended them, I trusted that this company would be legitimate and helpful. The initial phone call will also make you believe that further. The curtain gets pulled back after that point. They sent me a "worksheet" to complete, which basically asked for all of the detailed information that I had already worked out on my own in starting to fill out the forms - you still have to do all the information-gathering work; they just put it in the right places on the official VA forms, where you could basically do that yourself once you have all the information they ask you to gather. (And they want the info on their worksheet form, not like you can scan the DD-214 and other docs to make it easier to send them the info; you still have to type or write it all out). Their next selling point is the timeline. Once you get past the fact that you're already doing all the work to get the info needed for the forms, they attest to having a 100% VA approval rate with a quicker turnaround time for approval of the application than if you were to do this on your own (they say 1-2 months). Also BS. After the quick response from the person who signs you up and takes your money (~$1,000), their (PA's) response time to emails is weeks to months. There was 1 issue with our A&A application, and the VA cc'd PA on the letter that was sent out. When I emailed my PA rep, it took weeks to hear back, and they said I needed to send them the letter (that they were cc'd on, since they were literally legally representing me). I also later found out, but was never told up front, that I wasn't supposed to communicate directly with the VA, since PA was representing me. Back to the matter of the missing piece of info the VA was requesting, the weeks turned into months waiting for any response or direction from PA. I worked on tracking down the info needed and sent the form and supplementary info back to the VA (months after this, PA told me that they needed to be the ones to communicate with the VA - again, months). I did all the legwork and responded to the VA while still waiting for any response from PA. After multiple follow-up emails, I finally got in communication and had one of their reps officially send the response to the VA (and apparently there is a form or some such that had to be done a certain way that only PA could do; my letter/supporting docs/VA form weren't sufficient). Here's the time frame for this process: the VA letter was sent in January; the PA response was sent in July. From there, it was to be another 1-2 months for the VA's decision. Here's the caveat: if the veteran passes away before everything is finalized (before the VA finishes processing the application and makes their decision), the application becomes null, and there is no awarding of the benefits, even for the months after the application was filed while the veteran was still living. PA will exploit this, responding to their delayed communication by calmly saying how they have a year from the initial filing of the application to address all supplemental requests from the VA. Yes, my father passed before the A&A application was fully processed, and it was all for naught. In summary: Patriot Angels will take your $1000, still make you do all the information gathering, then take weeks to months to respond to your emails and even follow-up requests from the VA (they actually wouldn't have followed up on the additional info the VA needed if I hadn't checked in with them about it). They'll play the card of how they have up to a year to finalize everything pertaining to the application with the VA and take their sweet time. I've actually now emailed them twice in the last month since submitting the application for funeral reimbursements, and I'm still waiting for any response. It's been over a year since the initial application with the VA was filed, more than a year since I started working with PA, and months since my father passed, and I am still waiting on anything - a decision from the VA, a response from PA, anything. I should have closure by now, but I don't. Don't use or recommend Patriot Angels. read more

My mother's claim was handled by Patriot Angels at the advice of her Assisted Living Facility. They assured her that she would qualify for a pension as the widow of a wartime veteran. Patriot Angels charged her $1195 to file the claim. My 94 year old mother was in poor health and had to move out of her two story home once she could not navigate the stairs in Dec. 2022. She wanted to stay in her own home and had managed it for many years by herself so this was a frightening time for her and a scary move to give up her house and size down to an apartment where she did not know anyone. This organization Patriot Angels, turned out to be the worst business that I have ever encountered in my life. They do NOT return voice mails. If you get a live person when you call it is never the person you want to speak to (they're in a meeting.... always) and have to leave a message for a call back which you never get. I only got to speak to certain people after I complained to the assisted living management that it was dragging on for months and no benefit was forthcoming as well as no follow ups. Mother's rent was twice what her Social Security income was so she needed the VA benefit to continue to live there. Once I got a call from someone I saved their phone number and followed up repeatedly leaving voice mails which never got returned. I called one person leaving voice mails about 10 times. Is this really a way to run your business? They got every document they needed from the family in December; they did not have to research or locate records. They received the doctor's statement very quickly in January. The claim sat and was not filed until end of March. VA approved it four months later (they are very backed up currently due to PACT Act). Mother then received the back pay check but the letter and second check was sent to the wrong address and never forwarded. They filed the claim with her old address and not with the assisted living facility's address (which was the point of all this). Plus, we received a letter indicating that the Direct Deposit did not process because Patriot Angels had an error in the routing numbers. In the meantime we learned about Veteran's Service Organizations (VSOs). They file these claims for you and are available for support and questions and for NO FEE. Many are retired military themselves. Please DO NOT pay for something you can get free and allow these people to take your money and run! They are reprehensible. I don't care how many bible verses they put in their emails. They don't care or have compassion for widows of veterans. If you need to know about VSOs in your area contact your local Congress Representative for their phone numbers. read more

Patriot Angels did a great job securing benefits for my father, and then for my mother after my father passed away. I am very confident that I could not have secured these benefits on my own. The VA is a very large and confusing agency. I could not have completed the forms without their help and they are very thorough in preparing all of the necessary paperwork. I've read some of the reviews on this site. The process starts with an interview; then PA gives you a worksheet to fill out. Yes, they do make you gather all of the documents, but they provide a detailed list. I started the process in August and my father received the first check within 60 days. Unfortunately, he passed away shortly after that. I had to go through the process again to get the benefits for my mother. PA required me to re-submit all of the documents again, but my mother started receiving benefits within 60 days, which included retroactive payments. Yes, they do charge a fee for the filing, to cover legal costs, but it is well worth it. Everyone at PA was kind courteous and helpful. At one point my father's application seemed to be stalled. I called and spoke to a representative about his case. It was immediately reassigned to a new team and the process moved very quickly. I never had any trouble communicating with them by phone or email. I highly recommend using PA for getting benefits that any veteran has earned. read more

When you are dealing with the federal government, there is an abundance of red tape and seemingly endless forms to be filled out. It is a very time consuming process (even with their help), but with the guidance and thoroughly professional way in which Patriot Angels lead me each step of the way, my twin brother was awarded the Aid and Assistance pension! Now, this Vietnam War veteran, awarded the Bronze Star (1969) and suffering both from PTSD and traumatic brain injury, can have a decent standard of living for the rest of his natural life. My story is almost exactly like that of Meg C (1/21/2020 review). I, too, spent numerous hours back and forth with volunteers from Patriot Angels (PA)(recommended to me by the county veterans group) to complete the application for Aid and Attendance (A&A) for my mother, the wife of a WWII veteran. Her assets were being spent down very quickly for home care and I needed the A&A stipend to keep her in her home. Every time PA fixed one error, they made another error so the application process dragged on and on. I kept getting different PA volunteers working on my application, which was a very confusing process. The most annoying part was that PA initially determined mom's assets were within the guidelines for aid, but in the end, she still had too many assets. Even though PA says they are a free service because they use volunteers to complete the application process, the legal review costs $800. Mom passed away before qualifying for any benefit. I think PA needs to do a better job to manage expectations of their clients. If I had known mom had too much money at the very beginning, I would have not contracted with them to do the A&A application. They say their rate of obtaining A&A benefits is 100% but that's a lie. read more

Two years ago this company was recommended to me by my mother in laws assisted living facility to assist us in applying for VA benefits (her husband fought in WWII). the whole process was confusing and complicated. It took months to gather all the information they wanted and they took an $800 non refundable fee to consult with a lawyer. My mother in law just passed away without ever receiving any benefits and Patriot Angels said we could not get the $800 back even though the process was not complete. I would not recommend this company. They called to follow up and I told them about my mother in laws death and asked for our $800 back. They said it was non refundable and couldn't care less about all the time and money we wasted. This whole process was frustrating and a waste of time.
