In reviewing those areas, we observed visible gaps between the drip edge and the gutters. Other sections of the home, where the gutter and drip edge align properly, do not show the same issues. The gutter installation appears inconsistent, with some sections installed correctly and others not. When we reported the problem, the company recommended using a roof rake and applying salt to manage ice buildup. This was not something we had ever needed to do previously, but we followed their guidance and took those steps as instructed. We were later told that the gutters were installed "the best they could be" due to existing fascia and rafter conditions, and that wire was used in some locations instead of straps. We were never notified during the installation that these conditions existed, nor were we given the opportunity to discuss alternative solutions or address them at the time. Additionally, we did not receive a post-installation inspection or walkthrough. (Despite requesting one when we received our invoice three or four weeks later.) Had we been informed of the installation challenges or provided a final inspection, we could have addressed concerns earlier and potentially avoided additional damage. We understand our home is older and that renovation projects can uncover unexpected issues. However, clear communication and transparency are especially important in those situations. We chose this company in part because of the many positive reviews and the reputation they have built. We understand that mistakes can happen on any project. What matters most to us is how those issues are communicated and addressed. In this case, we expected the same level of integrity and accountability through challenges as is shown during successful projects. We are sharing this review to provide an honest account of our experience and to encourage clearer communication, transparency around installation challenges, and post-installation inspections for future customers. We were never notified of fascia or gutter issues when we discussed the job nor was it in the estimate or notes. We did discuss the age of the gutters at which point I asked if they should be replaced before or during install and was told no, they wouldn't affect anything. We removed the snow as instructed immediately. We applied salt. We asked up front if the gutters were moved and/or lowered during install and were told yes. And I watched them move them as I was home during the install. We're not asking for much, just accountability and honesty. And the first substantial snowfall in Portage, Michigan was November 29 when we received nine inches. Then into early December. On December 7, we noticed the first leaks and I reached out that day with photos. Nothing was inspected when someone came out after that and we were told to apply salt and rake the roof, which we did. The statement about weeks later is highly inaccurate. And the leak was immediately after, there was no "pulling down" of the gutters.

After looking through some of the different roofing companies online that serviced our area we settled on Sherriff Goslin Roofing in Kalamazoo. They were the quickest to get back with us, and after meeting there representative for a free estimate we felt pretty good about the options that they offered. We were a bit nervous that this would be a huge expense, but only had to wait a day or two to get our quote, and it was a big relief to find out it was almost half of what we just paid for our new deck. So we gave them the go-ahead. They were able to come do it in the same month we got the quote and the job went very well indeed. They were very careful to make sure that everything surrounding our home would not fall victim to the removal and replacement of the old roof. Very efficient on the time it took to do the job. They even called us and told us that they could begin the job earlier if we wanted, due to their finishing a job not far from us. So we jumped at the opportunity to have them get started that afternoon and by around 5 or 6pm the next day they the work was completely done and cleaned-up leaving us with a beautiful new roof that we absolutely love. So let me end this by saying that Sherriff Goslin Roofing of Kalamazoo is a awesome choice if you are in the market for a new roof that is good quality, done within a great time-frame in a very professional manor that for us was way more affordable than we had originally thought something like this would be. When presenting what the company was offering, the salesperson showed gutters with included leaf guards. She never indicated that these were a separate purchase, leading us to believe they were included in the purchase. After installation, we found out the leaf guards were not installed and were told they were not included in the contract. When questioned about the misrepresentation in the sales presentation, we were offered a 30% discount if we wanted the leaf guards installed - an additional cost of $1,300. Feeling that the misrepresentation by the salesperson - whether unintentional or not - should have been covered by the company and not merely discounted by them, we cannot in good conscience fully recommend White Pine Renovation.

The rotted wood wasn't replaced, no tiles were moved or replaced, just a bunch of caulk spread over the area. This roof came with a 10-year warranty and this warranty has NEVER been honored. I never realized how dishonest SIR HOME IMPROVEMENT was until I had a claim in 2026 over roof…read moredamage from an ice dam. I called in late December of 2025 and they sent two young men out to look. These boys knew nothing about roofing. They took some pictures of the leaking roof and moldy insulation. I waited for a reply from the company but none came for over two months! I began calling SIR in March but could not get anyone to deal with it or call back. They kept saying I had no warranty even though I have bha paper that indicated that I did and a contract that verified the same thing. SIR found the contract in their files--30 year warranty that covered labor costs. Eventually the head of the company, Frank Mumford, called and set up a meeting with me at my house to inspect the damage himself, but he always begged off and never came. In late March he called and offered to do the roof AT COST and replace the insulation for FREE. His bid on doing the roof was $5,800. By this time I had contacted a company recommended by my insurance agent--A FOR PROFIT BID was made at $3600, plus they would follow the specs of the insurance company! Needless to say, I had the recommended company do the work When it came to replacing the insulation, it took SIR 48 days to show up and they only did a partial job. There is much more that could be said, but I will leave it at that. Consumers, be sure to take multiple bids on all future jobs and research the company before you sign on. My house is a hundred years old so a fifteen year warranty sold me. Their estimate was right what I expected it would cost. My only complaint would be that I would of appreciated more information about charging me a credit card fee on my deposit. Although it was on the estimate, I must of missed it. It cost me an extra $355 for that mistake.

It is March 13, 2026 and they were here again about 2 - 3 weeks ago to fix the soffits again and now with strong winds the large triangle at the peak of my house (Historic Committee said they had to put it up there) has come down. Hoping we don't get rain, because it will probably leak down my walls. My husband left a message, just waiting to see if they call back Monday. Someone from Roach came by today (March 14, 2026) and said that they would put the piece back up. Apparently the crew that put it up in 2023 used nails that was too small.
