Staff was great very helpful and polite. The course was very hard to navigate there were no signs at each hole,very frustrating, the cart paths were in very bad shape the fairways and greens were ok, consider the price we paid for 18 with cart. Would not recommend course to friends. read more

Played on a Saturday Afternoon in Late December so this review may not be applicable to when you are thinking about playing. Course was extremely flat, actually reminded me of a muni course back in Cleveland that used to be home to projects before they tore them down, added a couple ponds and trees and a little dirt to give the greens character. This place lacked the dirt. What it did lack in elevation change it made up for in random water hazards (no hole maps - again could have been because it was December) and a beautiful view of the harbour on a couple of holes. As mentioned in previous reviews number 17 was a vision. With the Atlantic on your left it was 150 yards to hit a smallish green surrounded by a marshy area (doesnt sound as pretty as it was). Greens were in pretty poor shape considering the grass was dormant (again, December). They did not break much and what break you did see was obvious (if that makes sense). Course was really below average but a couple of the views and the low price through golfnow bumped it up to average overall. read more

17 is their 'iconic' hole and it is quite nice - par-3, island green right on the harbour. 17 and 18 are on the harbour and interesting holes. The rest of the course was pretty straight-forward. The listed prices seem high to me, but they offer afternoon specials, evening specials, and 'local resident' specials. I thought the price we actually paid was pretty reasonable. This course certainly doesn't compare to some of the nicer courses in the area, but it's also much cheaper. A good course to take a practice round before heading off to one of the more difficult courses in the area, as Blake W said. Or, a cheaper way to satisfy your golf-itch if you're in the area. read more

Average golf course with stunning views, especially on the last few holes. The prices are reasonable. Make sure to take a minute to take in the part 3 17th...it's consistently rated one of the best par 3's in all of greater Charleston. read more

I have played PP sporadically for the last 12 years of so, and my round today is the worst condition I have seen it in. I have always enjoyed this course but struggled with the first two fairways being so bouncy you cannot drive on them. Yet somehow many more have gotten into this rutted condition, so I guess it is logical that the cart paths are in terrible condition too. In addition, the course has lost so many trees over the years that it is barren. The course layout used the trees and the challenges that they presented are gone. The course still has the original water features and many great gators to look at along with a lot of turtles. Holes 16, 17 and 18 are still picturesque and well worth the challenge, but very disappointed in the overall condition and decision to remove the trees. By the way painting/coloring the greens green is not a substitute for proper grounds maintenance and fertilizing. read more

A great place to see some good iconic sites while golfing. This place is inexpensive compared to most of the other courses near by (although that may change with the new owners). I've always enjoyed this course because it gives you a great view of the harbor, Yorktown and the Bridge. It's never seemed to crowed either which is always a plus. This is a great place for seeing the area and praticing your game before heading of the the more difficult courses. read more

I'd give it no stars if I could. The fairways are so rough you gotta buckle up to stay in the cart. Their is no maintenance happening as weeds have taken over the whole course including the greens. The cart paths may as well be a dirt road with as many potholes as you have to avoid. For it to have the best view of any course in Charleston it is sad to see what has happened to this course. Will not see this local going back over there again. read more

Horrible course. Way over priced and it is never in good shape. Also floods very easily. They need to bulldoze the property and let someone that actually knows how to design a course remodel it. It's a shame that such a good piece of land is wasted like this. read more

Very reasonably priced course. Not the greatest course ever, but challenging enough, and it has some excellent views as well, especially of Charleston Harbor, Ft. Sumpter, the USS Yorktown, etc. Decent course to get your golf game started with on a trip to Charleston. Not so tough, even for a high handicapper like myself. Gets a little backed up, but that seems to be SOP around the golf courses down here (at least in August, tourist season.) read more

Range machine constantly charges you but doesn't give you balls, golf course is in crap condition, they put zero dollars back into the course, charge a ton because of the tourists that visit the area... And worst of all they have the nerve to be rude and unfriendly in the pro shop. STAY AWAY at all costs. If I could give them 00 stars, I would! read more

I've never actually played the course, but I've used the driving range many times. It's a great little place to get some practice and is one of the only public driving ranges close to downtown. The prices are fairly cheap- $5 for a small bucket, $10 for a medium, and $15 for a large. I normally hit a medium with is about 50 balls if I had to guess. The large is a ridiculous amount, but is good for sharing. Theres normally a small crowd, but I have only had to wait for a spot to open up once. Recently, the ball machine double charged my friends debit card. We called the pro shop and they offered him a free bucket without any hesitation. When we went back the next day I walked into the clubhouse to pick up the free bucket and was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. The staff was super friendly and they had lots of good stuff. Glad I got out before I bought something! read more

Two friends and I were visiting Charleston, SC for a long-weekend vacation, and I will never golf, or provide a recommendation to this course ever, purely because of the manager, Mike's disrespect. Unfortunately for us, and the timing of our vacation round of golf, Charleston was experiencing heavy rains for a few days straight and golf courses were on the fringe of playable vs unplayable on Saturday 8/4/18. Patriots Point was letting golfers play, but any more rain on top of the previous couple days was going to shut the course down. When we arrived, it immediately started raining on and off, and like many golfers there that day, we killed time at the clubhouse while waiting out the rain. Long story short, we waited out the rain delay in the club house for nearly 3 hours before the course had to shut down, but we had a great time doing so thanks to the clubhouse bartenders and our cold beverages and good lunch. When we learned the course was not going to be playable and they finally called it for all golfers (rightfully so) we started making our plans to head back home, closing up our bar tab. That's when the manager (owner?) Mike entered the clubhouse. "Is that your white truck parked out front? You guys are the last ones here so we are just waiting on you now if you could wrap it up" spoken with a clear condescending tone and disrespectful attitude. After racking up a bar tab between 3 friends close to $200 despite not even getting on the golf course due to rain, we were pretty darn good customers on that day. I'm sure most of us can think of many nicer ways to approach customers when closing up rather than being completely rude and disrespectful about it. As a fellow business owner, I feel bad for the other workers and constituents of Patriots Point, as they are negatively impacted by the cap on the upside of this business purely due to the owners negligence and disrespect, which is totally out of the other workers' control. The only reason this rating even got a 1 Star review from me is because of how charming and delightful the two clubhouse bartenders were, as Mike certainly didn't deserve any stars on this experience. Disappointing experience and not a good representation of the "southern charm" we have come to expect from the wonderful city of Charleston. read more

I have lived in Charleston for nearly 25 years. I play about 100 rounds each year. Patriots Point used to be in my regular rotation. You really can't beat the location. Unfortunately, there seems to have been a change in ownership a few years ago. The course has really gone downhill. A year ago I played there and had a horrible experience. They don't marshall the course at all and the round took 6 hours to play. I vowed to never play the course again. Unfortunately, I agreed to play with a few buddies this afternoon. We were playing behind a group of 4 that were on a 6 hour pace. Rather than being rude, we called the pro shop and asked that a ranger come and move the group forward. Ranger "Fred" showed up, seemingly already pissed off about something. I guess our request required him to get off his ass and do his job. Instead of trying to help us, he preferred to tell us that we needed to "pace ourselves". He was rude and nearly belligerent. On top of the issue above, I have to say that the greens at Patriots are the worst I've ever seen on a course, second only to Rivertowne. Oh, by the way, Rivertowne and Patriots are owned by the same group. Two absolutely beautiful courses that have been ruined by poor management. Bottom line folks - do yourself a favor and play Dunes West. Awesome course, great management and some of the friendliest people you'll find. Sorry Patriots - I truly will never play your course again. read more

Let the check in& starter know I am legally blind. My nephew played with me and kept an eye on my ball. My eye disease limits seeing #'s aa well as letters mostly. The pace of the players in front of us was unusually slow, even for Charleston. I took the cart and drove up off the fairway but about 10 years past a sign that apparently Sked not to have carts. My bad, but now back in the fairway the ranger came flying towards my car. Jumped out with a cigarette in his hands and smoke coming out his mouth. He yelled " in any circumstance the cart cannot go past that sign. No I though, but told the ranger not to yell at me, not to address me with smoke coming out of his mouth and CIGARETTE in hand. Thought of mention it to the manager. Well you know what they say. It all. Ones from the top. Course was in great shape read more

We had a blast here. The fairways were a little scrubby, but the greens were immaculate. I'd guess they are brand new, as the grass wasn't cut low and the ball rolled slow on all holes all day. The wind was out of control here, and really made it hard to be a good golfer. The ride over to the course is unbeatable, as you drive across the river in Charleston over the bridge, seeing the USS Yorktown, and the park around it. Definitely give it a shot if you're in town, but be ready to go up a club to deal with the winds. read more

Check in took easily 15 minutes and I had already paid. Paid through golf now at $80 a person, got there and said the greens are in repair so it's $50 a person instead. But since I already paid the through the app I couldn't get my money back. Then the ranger told us at least three times to hurry up. I played a 3 hour and 40 minute round of gold at a course that states is 4 hour and 15 minute course. I will not go back and do not recommend. Beautiful area but I'm good not seeing that course again. read more

Moved to the area not long ago from DE. They had a lot of public courses. Surprised how few there was here. Finally able to get to the course and was really able to enjoy myself. Went to the driving range first to get the rust off. Natural tee box, no artificial grass or turf. No rubber tees so make sure you bring enough for yourself . A number of targets to use to get your range and accuracy down. No one really there besides a lesson in the far end of the range plenty of room. Make sure to bring money for the machines , reasonably priced. Walked into the the club house to see if there was a tee time available. The gentleman was very nice a pleasant. $58 dollars for the round. I swish there was a 9 hole price thou . But the 18hole price is a decent price compared to the only other place in IOP. The course was fine with me very challenging and windy. I didn't get much information about the course. No books or maps outside of my scorecard which gave a general view. The course seemed to be dying. every hole seemed like it needed water but the greens. Not what I am use to up north for almost 1/2 the price. Besides the brown look of the course and no idea what the layout of each hole was everything was pleasant. The staff drove around with a drink cart every 45 min or so . The other guest were very pleasant as well even teamed up with a few on the back 9. I will say this , other restrooms are needed somewhere else on the course besides the only one I saw around the 7th hole I think. And I was looking. With all the being said , I will definitely be coming back I would like to see if there are any improvement on the course. I enjoy playing the game. Not very good but I still like the challenge. So if you are an average joe and don't want to spend 75-150 to play a round , head there. read more

My friends and I visit Charleston/Mt. Pleasant nearly every other week and have always played at Patriots - it is beautiful. On our most recent trip, the groundskeeper called my friend a "real c#nt" to her face because she made a very simple mistake - mistake, by accident, not malicious - and she apologized. He continued to berate her in what seemed a drunken or stoned slurred voice. I asked for owner contact information and was told that the "manager" would handle the HR issue and get back with me. I haven't heard a word and have been told that this particular employee is still working there and still drunk on the job. All you ladies out there - boycott this place! The fact that they allow their male employees to speak to and about women this way is totally unacceptable. There are plenty of other courses in the area who treat women with respect and don't allow their employees to be inebriated on the job!!! read more

Great views and a course in great condition. Not too incredibly challenging, but the sand was soft and everything looked like it was in great shape. Not being from South Carolina, I was surprised to see two alligators in the many water hazards so be careful out there. Course offers a military discount. 18 holes + cart + rental clubs + 2 sleeves of balls + hat all for under $100. No complaints here. read more

I have mixed feelings about this course. On the positive side it is the only public course in southern Mt. Pleasant and its location is awesome, with the par 3 17th overlooking the harbor being one of the most picturesque holes in the area. On the negative side, the course has always been in average condition whenever I play it. Both the greens and fairways can be pretty torn up. Additionally, I think the price is rather steep (unless you are military or go in the afternoon) given the type of course you are playing. Almost every hole is a standard hit a drive then hit your approach on the green kind of hole. Most of the holes are parallel to each other, meaning you can play holes from the another hole's fairway. While some might like this type of course, it reminds me more of an executive course (except those cost less). This course is worth a play if you're in the area for awhile, but if you are making a choice about what to play, I recommend one of the courses farther north on 17 such as Rivertowne or Charleston National. read more
