All the other prestigious golf courses we have been to, will give you your own cart, (unless you know your partner). I'm high risk due to being pregnant, so neither of us felt comfortable riding with a stranger. We ended up walking the whole course because they said there wasn't enough carts. What kind of "luxury" golf course doesn't have enough carts? ! When we went to the golf shop at the end of the round to see what they could do. They apologized but said there was nothing they could do due to being "busy season." I'm only giving two stars because it is a beautiful course, but don't expect any professionalism or customer service.

Oak Point was one of 3 Kiawah Island golf courses I visited as part of a short golf vacation with…read moresome buddies. Its a Clyde Johnston designed course with some interesting nuance to it. While its a challenging course, playing in somewhat inclement weather made it a bit more challenging. Of the 3 courses we played-- Turtle Point and Osprey Point-- I found this to be the most difficult---certainly based on my score. Just the fact that you start out with a par 5 on the first hole should say something. How about having 3 par 5's and 3 par 3's on the front 9? I don't think I'd seen that before. Then 2 par 5's and 2 par 3's on the back 9. The back 9 for me was much more difficult. The condition of the fairways and greens are what you'd expect from a Kiawah Island course. The folks on the course and the pro shop were very friendly and helpful.

Oak Point is the only one of the 5 Kiawah Island courses that is located just outside of the Kiawah…read moregate. I feel Oak Point is the best course for a variety of skill level players, it would be challenging to the novice golfer and the experienced player will have a fair test, but may prefer the other 4 courses. The par 5's are reachable, but typically guarded on 3 sides with bunkers or other non green zones. Bordering the historic Haulover Creek and the Kiawah River, Oak Point was built on the grounds of an old indigo and cotton plantation. As I mentioned with the other Kiawah golf courses, Oak Point is another example of quality golf that Kiawah Island has to offer. The 18-hole Oak Point plays 6,759 yards of golf from the tips for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.8 and it has a slope rating of 140 on Bermuda grass, designed by Clyde B. Johnston. I have to rate Oak Point at the bottom of list of my Kiawah Golf Courses, but do not have that dissuade you from playing there, it is still excellent..The signature hole is #18

This is a great golf course that is hard! $600.00 per player is a LOT of money for a round of golf. Is it worth it? YES! The best way to play this course is with a caddie. It should be walked from tee to green, not from the sand cart path. There isn't a throw away hole out of the 18 holes. There isn't any out of bounds! Hit it. Find it. Hit it again. This place is just awesome. Lastly, it is one of the finest locations to have a beverage after your round so you can look out at the Atlantic Ocean.

We played two rounds here during our trip and the conditions, clubhouse and the caddies were first class. Despite the high slope rating and reputation for difficulty I found the course to be pretty playable. Most of the trouble comes into play in windy conditions and we were fortunate that the wind was somewhat benign, at least for about half the round. Good caddies helped us avoid getting into big trouble. Highly recommended, and would play again once I refill my bank account.

The fairways are stellar and greens are challenging and true. My team ended up 7 under. We started on the par 5 hole #8. One of our guys hit the ball around 250 years, I hit next for 185 yards and made it onto the green to sink a 45 foot putt for eagle. Memories like this keep you going back. I understand the Ocean Course is more picturesque and challenging, but this course is also excellent. The staff was more than helpful and friendly. No carts allowed in parking lot.

It was unfortunate that it started raining during the round to the point where we could only get 9 holes in before they closed the course. We played from the silver tees and I still shot a decent score even with the inclement weather. Going through Golfscapes, they were able to get us a partial refund. Great choice! Our unit was on the first level, positioned on the 17th hole. It had an enormous back deck with remarkable views. The advantage of staying on the lagoon was seeing all the beautiful greenery, white cranes, blue herons, deer, and other wildlife. Such a serene atmosphere! The condo itself was quiet, contemporary, and super clean. Would I stay there again? Absolutely!!

Not only were they all really expensive, but you had to use their catering and follow their list of preferred vendors. Nothing was jiving with my idea of having an intimate island wedding until my dad suggested Sandcastle. The Sandcastle event coordinator (Megan)* got back to me pretty quickly with more information and dates that were already booked. I had a Fall wedding in mind, but also wanted to pick a date that was at the bottom of the off season, so we went with 12.1.12. Sandcastle is an oceanfront facility that can accommodate up to 180 people, and you can rent one, two, or three rooms. Tables, chairs, glassware, dinnerware, and flatware are included. I was really impressed with their reasonable rental rates-- if you don't qualify for the member rates, then getting sponsored by a member is an option. My favorite thing about having our reception at Sandcastle was that we got to choose all of our vendors.** There are definitely pros and cons to this: It's time-consuming to choose all of your vendors from afar and you have to be okay with the fact that you might end up with wonky centerpieces like we did. However, you absolutely cannot beat the views, huge verandah, and large catering kitchen that Sandcastle offers. *Ask Megan about her day-of coordination services. She did an awesome job and was five million times more organized than the wedding planner we originally hired. **Be sure to check out KICA's Preferential Pricing list for vendor discounts.

The grass is cut so well, every ball on the fairways looks to be sitting upon a pool table, you can see the entire ball. The backside of The River stating with 16, a spectacular par 5 to another beauty the par 3 17th, hitting a small quick green, with the intercoastal water way as the back drop. For years, they've offered a 15% local discount to residents of Seabrook, Kiawah, and lower Johns Island. Their sister stores in Freshfields offer the same. For years, I've shown my license and been granted a 15% discount, as I live about 1 mile from the store on Johns Island. I live closer than any Kiawah residents (Cassique is 2 miles), while the Marsh Oak condos at Bohicket Marina (Seabrook) are indeed closer than my house. This year I was told by management that they "never" offered discounts to anyone other than Seabrook Club or Kiawah Club members with a Club card. My years of receipts prove otherwise. It's hard for me to continue to support a local business when they are claiming they never had a policy that existed. It's fine if they choose to change their policy, but please do not lie about it.
