It has every amenity you…read morecould imagine finding at a big city library and maybe more; the kindest, most dedicated librarians, ever; and wonderful (virtual) programming even during COVID-19 times. They even have a program where you can check out e-books and read them on an app if you don't feel comfortable touching public library books just yet. But we find their health precautions to be extremely well thought out. Patrons are now allowed to visit in person, but are limited to 30 minutes. The number of patrons is limited to allow for social distancing. To get in, you ring a doorbell and are greeted by a librarian, often the lovely children's librarian, Cheryl, chatted up, signed in, offered hand sanitizer. Returned books are held in quarantine for a period before being re-shelved and made available to the next patron. What an incredibly resource for the community. What a heroic bunch of folks. I want to give them all my money and if you live in this community, so should you.

Adults catch up with their reading or do some work in their laptop. It's the perfect place to study and get lost in books or a study project. Everyone here is extremely kind, especially Tom. You can ask him literally anything and he's there to help, recommend a read, a documentary, or just help you with your card. One of the nicest and most helpful humans to exist! There's plenty of selections here but if you can't find something in person you can always check something out online. Great little library!

Yes, it's a small, cute, little one with small staff - so that just means you have to be extra patient with them and for all their hard work, especially during the busier season. I can't speak for their P.O. Box or anything like that but their services are rendered like any regular post office would and the guys working behind the counter can literally make you LOL if you just happen to sit back and eavesdrop while you're waiting in line or taping something up. Pro tip: get your supplies and print all the labels at home and save a nice chunk of time by just dropping them off. Totally makes a difference!

The ladies at the office were super helpful in giving me honest estimates, but the best thing they did was call me and let me know that my package was in the office because they knew I was on a time crunch. Very helpful, they give you the small town feel that most post offices lack. Would definitely recommend over some of the bigger offices in the area.

He was quite an under-achiever in life. All he did was sign and help draft the Articles of Association, the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the Constitution. No one else can claim that on his resume. This is a one-sided marker from the CT Historical Commission in the familiar white lettering on a blue background. It's located a few dozen feet away from the road near the intersection of Route 39 and Gaylordsville Road, across the street from the Sherman School. The marker was dedicated in 1981 and is in very good condition. The full inscription reads: Originally part of New Fairfield, which was purchased from the Indians in 1729, the area then known as the Upper Seven Miles was separately incorporated as the Town of Sherman in 1802. The town was named for Roger Sherman who, as a young man, had a cobbler shop at the north end. He was to become the only statesman to help draft and sign all of the following documents: the Articles of Association, the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the United States Constitution. A native of Sherman was Philo Penfield Stewart, missionary to the Choctaw Indians, inventor of the Stewart stove, and in 1833 a founder of Oberlin College in Ohio. The Character of the town as a farming community devoted to dairying, grazing, and tobacco-growing changed after 1926 when, for hydroelectric power, eight hundred acres of Sherman land were flooded in the creation of Lake Candlewood. Erected 1981 by Town of Sherman, Sherman Historical Society, Connecticut Historical Commission.
