The inside is full of awesome art as well - some on permanent display, others seem to be more temporary. There are plenty of places to relax and read, including two outdoor spaces in the middle of the building. There is also an innovation station, where you can work on art like monogram or paper arrangements. The librarians were also very friendly and encouraged quietly seeing how beautiful their library is.

A lot has changed in the past 30+ years and the library is nicely modernized but still keeps a familiar and welcoming feel. A big draw is the children's room. The book and media selection is fantastic, there is a fish tank and puzzles and games, and there are lots of year-round programs offered for kids of various ages. I also appreciate the bargain used books for sale - I always make sure to check these shelves out as several times I've found excellent like-new condition hardcover books for just a dollar or two. My family and I were in the area so we stopped by this library. The children's section was lovely with many toys and books. My kids really enjoyed playing with the toys and reading the books. The Bedford Free Library is a staple in Bedford Village. Located in the heart of "downtown" with…read moreplenty of free street parking available, the library is perfectly situated between what used to be the old firehouse (now OHHO) and other businesses (real estate offices, nail salons, the deli, etc.). I have been coming to the BFL since I was in pre-school. I attended book clubs here, participated in writing competitions, and every summer, I looked forward to the summer reading challenge. I have wonderful memories of walking to the library after school ended at BVES and scavenging through the place searching for my next book. In middle and high school, I would beg my parents to drop me off at the library so I could do work upstairs at the comfortable desks. The BFL has always been a warm, inviting place. I truly have great memories here and appreciate everything they do for the community. Libraries are so essential, and this place is extra special. All of the individuals who work here are friendly and helpful, as well!

Proof of residence can be : Driver's license with address, utility bill in your name, lease agreement, or bank statement to name a few. In any case I simply showed this information, and in minutes poof! Library card. You are allotted 60 minutes to use the computers, however I was magically given an additional 60 when my 10 minute mark reached ( not complaining) I had some issues printing some documents in color, but a very kind associate mediated and resolved the issue in seconds. All in all this library is a super peaceful place with knowledgeable staff, family friendly, has activities for adults and kids:)

The audiobooks have been VERY helpful on my long commute.

They effectively ousted a group of middle school students because they sat in the younger kid section. They have no real area in the library for them, yet wouldn't let them sit in the window seats.
