On our most recent trip to North Lake Tahoe, Patton Beach was our favorite beach. It is relatively small, but not too crowded. The parking lot is shared with a cafe, so parking is limited, but if you arrive by 9 AM you should be fine. No sand -- mostly rocks and pebble, but we didn't mind that. Just bring a blanket, towel, or mat and you'll be fine. The water is crystal clear, the beach is clean, and the atmosphere is peaceful. There are a few shaded areas if you prefer to sit in shade and also a few picnic tables. The cafe/rental business on the beach (called Waterman's Landing) offers kayaks and stand-up paddleboards for rent (about $30/hour). We rented a stand-up paddleboard for an hour and paddled our way towards the Sierras. Best of all, the beach is dog friendly. The rules say dogs must be kept on leash, but this wasn't enforced, which was ok with us. All of the dogs were very friendly and jumping in and out of the water. We even got our little chihuahua to swim a bit. read more

An acceptable stony beach that at least is flat and safe to walk for both humans and dogs. Because it's free and has street parking it's crowded. My two Labradors had a fun time splashing in the small waves. I kept them on 25 long horse lunging leashes (As the law requires), but every other dog was running free. August 2020 COVID, big parties of people at picnic tables. No one wearing masks, no social distancing. read more

Loved it here! Dog friendly was the key for my family on vacation. Our little guys go everywhere with us. They had so much fun playing in the water and so did we. We even rented a kayak for 3hrs and took the puppies out in the water. It was fantastic, definitely recommend if you have a dog or love dogs. read more

We love to stop by Patton Beach with our dog throughout the seasons, weather permitting, when passing through town. On cooler days, we can sometimes enjoy the beach by ourselves! It is our favorite one for rock-skipping as the water is usually pretty calm. On warmer days, there will be families and other dogs (it's always fun to see them swimming after their toys/sticks while our aquaphobic dog sits by and watches - lol) but we've never seen it too crowded. You can find parking fairly easily on the street. read more

Very small, rocky beach, dog-friendly. Convenient parking lot which fills up in the summer. I can see myself bringing my kayak though and launching from here, though I'm not a fan of kayaking among the more developed shoreline here. I give it 3 stars because it's dog friendly, but the rocky beach means humans can't really find a comfortable spot to lay down and relax for more than just a few minutes, unless you don't mind having pebbles that stab you in your butt. No public bathrooms and it's probably a good idea to bring your own dog waste bags. (Look for the giant mini-golf place across the street). read more

This is a great beach to take your dog! I have a one year old Golden Retriever (we took him here for his first birthday), and he loved it. The water is a beautiful turquoise, and not too wavy. The parking is easy (just park near Waterman's Landing. There are a few restrooms available and they are in good condition. Patton beach is located in North Lake Tahoe. There are a lot of rocks and pebbles, so you may want to bring water shoes. My dog loved it and I loved it too for the swimming. Would totally recommend. read more

In comparison with other beaches, I'm less impressed. Though we did see dogs loving the place. Even still, it is hard to beat any place in Tahoe. There's a lot of fun to be had. There's a good miniature golf place virtually across the street. read more

If you want your dog to enjoy his/her vacation too .. Take them here for some swimming with some courteous, cool and fun romping in the beautiful ways of Tahoe. No dirty looks. All fun for your dog. In fact, my dog, the only one without a ball, swam 50 yards out to a buoy (his mind, ball) and after the fear of fatigue passed and he was safely ashore people kindly offered us a ball to keep for him to play with so he wouldn't be jealous of the others. :). Great exercise and nearly a must on a hot day when you can't bring your furry friend out with you. Also, there was a restaurant or kayak rental there which was likely a lot of fun but not for someone in my situation. read more

Great beach for dogs. It is a smooth rock/pebble beach so you and your dog don't hurt your feet. You can walk to CB's and 7-11 and the parking is conveniently close to the beach. read more

Visited the week before Memorial Day. Went to this beach because it was one of the few that was dog friendly. It was absolutely disgusting. Dog poop everywhere, like every few inches. You couldn't step anywhere without stepping in one. Carnelian Bay really needs to have an armed guard on duty, because most people are more animals than their dogs. PICK UP your dog's poop, people!!! read more

This is the best beach on the north shore of Tahoe for you and your dog. While the sand is quite pebble-y (or the pebbles have lots of sand around them) you'll have plenty of room to spread out a towel and hang with the dog while you both take dips into the lake. There is a nice parking lot and a clean restroom as well as a grassy area in the park. Incredible views as well. read more

Patton Beach is the same name for Carnelian Beach. It is a better beach than the Coon Street Dog beach next to Kings Beach Park. Yet, it has drawbacks: It is situated in a harbor environment, many boats docked nearby in the summer. There is also a lack of trees to use as shade in case you are laying in the sun with the dog. The beach is a mix of sand and small to large pebbles. A few food places are near and parking is ample. It is only a few miles from King's Beach. read more
