the sign for patty cakes bakery

This review is primarily based upon my everything bagel with veggie cream cheese order this week, but I'll provide some insight about other aspects of Patty Cakes. Patty Cakes does a number of different things. They make cakes to order. They have individual servings of desserts and pastries. They have store made bagels, bagel sandwiches, muffins and other things that you might want for breakfast. They sell pizza and pizza dough. They also sell coffee beverages and roasted coffee in bags. I ordered a bagel this week. It was a step up from some of the franchises that sell bagels, but a step or two down from the best general area bagel places. The bagel had less everything seasoning than most great everything bagels. The color of the outside of the bagel wasn't as attractive either. The outside of the bagel texture could be better. The veggie cream cheese had good flavor and was slightly above average. Basically, Patty Cakes is a decent bagel option if you're in the area and don't want to drive to one of the best bagel places about 15-20 minutes away. The service is generally pretty friendly at Patty Cakes. Our family has ordered birthday cakes (rainbow, German chocolate cake) from there and they've ranged from decent to very good. I've also had individual dessert servings from there and they're also decent to very good. I'd say they're better at desserts than they are at bagels. Patty Cakes is a solid bakery that does a lot of things and they're a decent option for those things if you're in the area.

    It's a donut.

I made my first trip to Patty Cakes about 8 years ago when I was still living in Connecticut and I remember loving whatever treat I had. Saturday morning I was making way to Glastonbury and needed a quick breakfast so I once again stopped into Patty Cakes to fix my hunger. This semi small bakery offers a plethora of different beverages, donuts, cookies, sandwiches, and other treats to fill you up but on this day, I ordered 2 donuts and a chocolate chip cookie (I swear the cookie was for later). I picked out a glaze donut and a chocolate donut and I was not let down. Both donuts were pretty darn okay and although I wasn't in love with the things, I would still eat them again. The cookie that I consumed a little later in the day was pretty average again did the job I was hoping it would do. Overall, I had an okay experience at Patty Cakes. I did order an everything bagel for my girlfriend also and when they forgot to give it to me totally looked at me like I was the devil when I asked for it, but hey, what are you gonna do? Either way, if you want some treats and snacks this isn't a terrible place to go, give them a shot.

We've been coming to Patty Cakes for years as they're right in town and do some things really well - especially cakes! We love to order party cakes from here with our favorites being Red Velvet it recently, a cookies & cream cake! They are priced really well and look beautiful enough that guests will think you dropped a pretty penny. They do bagels & cream cheese really well but their breakfast sandwiches are lacking compared to others nearby. They definitely could use more meat & cheese. The bagels are the best you'll find in close vicinity though and perfect if you're looking to bring a bag to the office! The service is hit or miss but they're a local Italian joint and if you're Italian, you get it. I've also been told very good things about their pizza and stuffed breads but haven't had the pleasure to try those yet. Also, their chocolate frosted donuts are amazing and seem to be frosted with their bakery frosting which is an absolute game changer!

I popped in because the parking lot was mostly empty. It wasn't particularly busy in the cafe either. There were two small groups ahead of me in line. I order my food and black iced coffee to go. I received my food. It even had to be heated. And I had to wait 10 minutes for them to give me my black iced coffee. Even though there are only two or three people waiting in the drink area. And that was after I said something. So who knows how long it would have taken. This isn't because of lack of effort. The baristas were doing things. They're making lots of drinks. But it's not clear for whom. They finish the drinks and they don't call people's names. Maybe they're for to go orders? I understand that restaurants need to make choices about how they run things. All I can say is, that it's not a good experience to get all of your food and you have to wait for a black iced coffee (a drink that takes very minimal effort) for 10 minutes. Even though you're one of only a few people in the drink area. I'm not going to change my review score. But these experiences definitely affect how often I visit.

"She got muffins for sons, she got cornbread too Sweet rolls…read moreand jelly, boys I'm really tellin' you She had the baker shop boogie It's the nicest thing in town" (Willie Nix) We had a wonderful visit to Bake Market today and walked out with a ton of high-quality stuff for under $39 before tax. Our haul included a big tray of eggplant parmesan ($11.99), a small container of chicken salad ($7.99), a big container of Street Corn Salad ($11.99), a serving of Mango Pineapple Bread ($2.95) and Coconut Zucchini Bread ($2.95), and an Everything Biscuit (just $1.49). Bake Market has refrigerated and freezer cases on the walls with entrees and pastas and sauces and salads and desserts. It reminded me of the Pasta Vita store we used to visit in Avon. We split the chicken salad for lunch on Wednesday and enjoyed it very much, it was heavy on diced chicken and light enough on the diced celery and mayo that it was very hearty and not overrepresented by the rest. We decided to split the Everything Biscuit with lunch and I really liked the texture and savory taste of the everything spice. We split the Street Corn salad for Friday dinner, and it was a big portion of sliced Romaine, diced bacon, sliced radishes, roasted corn, tortilla strips, and grated Cotija cheese. It was very good; the lettuce was super fresh with plenty of bacon and corn. We split the Mango Pineapple Bread for dessert and that was excellent too. It was dense, sweet, full of flavor, and quite wonderful. The Coconut Zucchini Bread was so-so. I didn't think it had much of a flavor, and besides the blandness it was incredibly messy with shredded coconut everywhere. Our Bake Market sampling ended with their Eggplant Parmesan. It was a massive 2-lb tray that cost just $11.99. And how can I NOT mention that containers of fresh pasta AND sauce were included! We made four servings out of it. The eggplant parm was made out of a very thick single slab of breaded/fried unpeeled eggplant, and not the multiple layers of thin slices stacked up lasagna-style you customarily see. It had plenty of sauce and plenty of cheese, but how was the eggplant itself? I gotta tell you, when I saw that thick slab, my radar went up because I had a feeling it would be rubbery, tough, and unappetizing. But my doubts were short-lived after my first bite. It was delicious and tender and full of flavor without a hint of grease. Honestly, it was one of the best representations of eggplant I've had in a while. So, there you have it, a nearly perfect score on a variety of foods, and a very satisfactory $39 haul that scored high on quality and value.

I didn't know what to expect, but it was delicious -- the perfect mesh of flaky and doughy textures with the slight warmth was divine. I also saw they had pistachio matcha lattes so I decided to try one. It was surprisingly pretty tasty despite the color not being a very deep green. They also offer several samples, which I was excited about, but I was disappointed because they were all salty -- even the zucchini bread that I expected to be more neutral/sweet. The bagels were also very flat. Maybe their sweets just happen to be better?

And that adorableness comes in twenty flavor varieties - peanut butters, candies, fruits, cookies, and of course...chocolates. They cost between $1 and $1.20 each depending on the quantity you want. I bought a box of fifteen for $15. I had some time to kill before my appointment in Rocky Hill, so I also ordered a small coffee, lemon, and almond donut to enjoy on site. Now that's easier said than done because the store is small and only has a counter with two stools. Luckily, both were vacant so I settled in, drank their excellent freshly made coffee (small for $3.50) and savored my little donut treats. Indulge By Palazzo also specializes in coffees and protein shakes to help you wash down those donuts, and it looks like they are set up to sell ice cream in season. If you are a donut hound, and appreciate adorableness, indulge yourself with a visit to Palazzo and walk out with a box of their petite sweet treats.

(Tommy Roe) If you're all about supporting small and local--and you crave your coffee drinks, breakfast sandwiches, pastries, waffles, crepes, and paninis--then you'll want to make a beeline straight to Sweet B Café. I'm on the Board of Directors for a small group that meets in Rocky Hill every month or so. I've fallen into the habit of stopping at a local coffee shop on those mornings to study my notes and finalize my talking points for the Board. Yesterday morning I made the Sweet B Café my place to do that. I had a 16-oz drip coffee ($3.50) and a plain toasted bagel ($3.75) with cream cheese. The coffee was excellent, the bagel was big and fresh and very yummy! Counter service from Mackenzie was cheerful and professional. The dining room has about half a dozen small tables, and the business was pretty busy with plenty of online customers walking in to grab their food and drink. On the way out, I saw and heard an attractive slice of Toasted Coconut Loaf whispering in my ear, so I couldn't resist taking it home. Of course, it was very tasty. I had a very enjoyable and productive visit. PRO TIP Check out their coffee-themed restroom wall panels!
