I had a wonderful first experience at Taste by Spellbound. While I had never been or tasted their treats myself, I have heard great things for a long time and followed them online. After eyeing many specials in the past, finally came a sundae special that was simply too impressive seeming, and raved about specifically, to pass on. It was their bruleed banana sundae. It featured a base of warm banana bread, then soft serve, biscoff sauce, caramel, whipped cream, bruleed bananas, feuilletine, and sea salt. It was to die for. I was surprised by how light it was, and the sweetness was not over powering. Absolutely delightful. I brought some other goodies to family, and each was adored. A chocolate brookie, salted honey macadamia bar, and a salted caramel macaron. I tasted and was quite impressed by the macadamia bar. I believe it was a shortbread base and the use of honey vs a heavier alternative or caramel kept it from being a sugar a bomb, which I quite liked. It was another well balanced treat. The blueberry lemonade was also quite tasty. I loved the interior space. It's quite spacious with plenty of seating to sit with your treats and enjoy them there. I think that sets them apart from a lot of the other sweet shops in the area. Everyone there was super helpful and cheerful. I really did just love my time there. Great place. The space is huge and definitely Instagrammable, they are not kidding about that! Honestly, baked goods are not really my thing so I would not have gone here just to pick up some baked goods until they just brought in the soft serve vanilla ice cream machine! That is right up my alley and you can get the sundae of the week, an Affogato or add soft serve to any of their baked goods! Now they are calling my name and I am there! I've tried a few things already, and I will definitely be a regular this summer to try more and more! I tried two Sundays and all of the ingredients are homemade, I mean, like a homemade graham cracker and homemade peach and strawberry, rhubarb sauces, and then the hubby got a peanut butter brownie something baked good with the ice cream on top and it was phenomenal! I have been here several times, not sure why it took me so long to write a review. Pre-ice cream era, we would get baked goods and sometimes they were great, other times just average. They have interesting items and flavors for sure. The coffee is always good, but many times the syrup (usually the one they make!) is out and that is saddening lol. I had been hearing a lot about the new soft serve sundaes at Taste by Spellbound, so we took a drive up to see what they were all about! Definitely a generous size - it can be good for sharing as well. We tried the sundae of the week, which was peaches and cream, and it was SO good with clearly housemade toppings. I couldn't resist the cupcake split because I had never seen that before, and it was great! The bakery itself was adorable, and we really enjoyed sitting in there. Loved the pink interior with the whimsical pop of greens and gold. I came near closing so choices were limited but no complaints as there were several decent items to pick from. Everyone was super friendly and spent time describing the sweets. Will be back to try other items! Frosted animal cracker cupcake {5/5}: I've not had a better cupcake before. The cake part itself is soft and had a really nice crumb. The cheesecake mousse was addicting. Would have liked more cake to icing ratio, but amazing. I had a nice experience at Taste by Spellbound! I went on two separate occasions because there were certain things I wanted to try! I went the second or third week they started doing their speciality sundaes and had the peaches and cream. My personal take - I was a bit underwhelmed! There was a pound of vanilla ice cream and the topping ratio was no where near. Once you got through the top layer, you were just left with vanilla ice cream which was a bit disappointing. Would definitely rather have had their chocolate cookie sundae. But, their dessert/bakery items are incredibly delicious. Their banana toffee scone was seriously one of the best scones i've ever had - it was fluffy and full of flavor, I was sad I didn't get 2! I also tried their passionfruit coconut cloud cake which I was also impressed by. Their creamsicle dream was okay but I don't think it's my taste as much as I thought. Incredible, very creative bakery. Friendly staff, wonderful interior design in the West Hartford store and I'm sure the other locations are similar. I've been to several bakeries throughout New England and this is by far the best. The rotating selection is fantastic and would have me in there at least twice a week if I didn't live so far away. I have finally made my way to Taste by Spellbound. It's not that they're far but they are closed on Sundays and Mondays, and for some reason I'm in the area when they are closed. This place looks like I'm inside of a fairytale. It is so beautiful and carefully curated inside. The walls are pink, the bar stools are burgundy velvet with gold hardware. The other chairs are green or pink floral. Coming in here, you're inspired to look your best, and truly enjoy each moment, each bite and each sip. There are so many delicious looking cookies, cupcakes and macaroons. I got the toasted marshmallow macaroon and a hot hazelnut latte. My hazelnut latte was brought out to me in a white mug, it looked delicious, with a leaf pattern on top. The toasted marshmallow macaroon, was toasted with gooey marshmallow in the center. This latte was very tasty! It's been a while since I've had a hot latte. This was creamy, sweet just enough, and really hit the spot, since we are getting that first fall, cool, crisp air! My toasted marshmallow macaroon, was like enjoying a s'more, except without all the stickiness. It was so tasty, and accurate to its name! I'm so glad I finally stopped by this little gem! A slightly weaker offering in the chain, but still one of the better boutique bakeries you can find in the state I came here after an okay lunch at a nearby hot pot location. Wanted a dessert, and the hot pot place didn't have much to offer in terms of sweets. This place happened to be a short walk away, so I opted to try this place out The place has a similar flow to the other location I have been to, lots of open space, a general glass display showing their current offerings, and a menu of drinks one can order. My girlfriend orders a smattering of french macaroons and I order a couple cupcakes for the road. Overall, weaker but still not bad. The apple pie cupcake had a lack of filling and the cake itself was a little dense. I am so use to taste's cupcakes to be a nice, light, airy, but flavorful bite. But this apple pie one was almost like a pound cake with only a little filling in it. What was there was tasty, and the cake had a decent flavor to it. a solid vanilla base cake with cinnamon notes. but this one was off. Later that same day, I have the cookie butter cupcake and that one meets my expectations. a strong dark chocolate flavored cake. light, airy, but tender and moist. The cookie butter was plentiful in the center and the icing was also cookie butter flavored. I think this location doesn't cycle it's stock each day. If it does, then I suspect they need to make sure that people are aware if a cake is going to be more about the frosting than the filling. I visited Taste by Spellbound for the first time this week. I bought three different types of macaron, including a stunningly beautiful tie dye kind. They were very good flavor and texture-wise. If I'm comparing them to my current favorite Greater Hartford area place for macarons, Taste's were a bit sweeter than I prefer. That's obviously a matter of personal preference and you'll have to decide for yourself. One unique thing about Taste's macarons -- a couple of them had a bit of fruit purée in the cream filling. We also ordered a turtle brownie, a blondie, a lemon bar and a Giv Coffee Cold Brew. Kudos for using CT's own GIv. So many of the places with great desserts do that! All of the desserts were at least good, but the turtle brownie was a house favorite. Service was pleasant and efficient. The shop was absolutely beautiful. If you're into pink and ornate desserts, you're going to love it. Four Stars. read more

Owner Miriam has locations in Avon, South Windsor and West Hartford and Christmas time was so awesome here! Taste by Spellbound is a from scratch bakery and coffee shop priding themselves on not only looks but flavor. Their menus are constantly changing to keep things exciting for customers. Taste by Spellbound has the most gorgeous desserts. Almost too perfect to eat. But they're delicious and you'll want to eat every bite of whatever delectable treat you desire. They have an extensive menu but what I love about them is that they focus on a few categories: cookies, cupcakes, bars, and macaroons. Of course they have other options but they do what they do best-- and that's what makes them great. My favorite treat here is a chocolate chip cookie and my husband and daughter rave about their cupcakes. Their bars are such a treat and I highly recommend their turtle brownie bar. I'm back and this time - with photos! I came back to try some macroons to bring to a vineyard day over the weekend. They. Were. In. Cred. Ible. WOW! I know these babies are the TBS MVP but they were better than I could have imagined. I loved all the cool flavors too! Came on a Saturday at 10:30 and the place was pretty much empty but the bakery case was completely full which was nice since we had all the options. They have quite the spread of treats from macaroons to bars, cookies, cupcakes and cinnamon rolls. Everything looked delicious. We got the cinnamon roll (only made on weekends) and the creme brulee bar and coffee. The cinnamon roll was huge but unfortunately was really dry which was surprising since we were there pretty early. It was also supposedly topped with cream cheese frosting but all I could taste was sugar. The creme brulee bar tasted exactly like creme brulee and had the crispy topping. The crust was also tasty. The coffee was from Giv coffee and was just standard. Overall, we were pretty underwhelmed for how good everything looked. The space really is gorgeous. Brightly lit and well decorated, it just makes you happy. You feel like you're in the house of someone with really nice floral/colorful taste. I've been waiting and watching for their opening in Elmwood neighborhood of West Hartford. Finally on Tuesday, 9/17/2019 the doors swung open with a smile. Located on Mayflower Street just around the corner of New Britain Avenue. Inside super clean and spacious with plenty of tables and seating to enjoy a sweet and a beverage with friends and family. My honey ordered some for Valentine's Day for me and I was SO excited when I opened the box! This is the second of the 3 locations that I visited. All 3 shops are supplied from one main kitchen is my understanding, so whichever one you visit, the food will be consistent. I have an obsession with macrons and hers are exceptional. On this trip I sampled several things along with the macrons. Everything was delicious fresh as before. I happened to also purchase macrons from another famous bakery in NY the same day. I did the taste test these one the top score. The flavor explodes in your mouth! I'm still going to the TBS for my desserts! I went this past Saturday a little before they opened at 10. There was a line that wrapped around the building. Everyone was being socially distant except for one man who did not wear a mask (obviously had nothing to do with the business itself). We got the two cruffins (coconut and strawberries and cream), an apple cinnamon bun, a berry scone, a crème brûlée bar, two cookies and a junk food bar for my friend. Everything was DELICIOUS! The cruffins are always a hit for us! I've had their cinnamon buns before but LOVED this apple one. I've also had various other scones from them before and this berry one was also my favorite thus far! I wish I bought two! My boyfriend ate his half for breakfast with coffee and he said it was perfect. We got a crème brûlée bar a previous time that had a chocolate chip cookie base (my bf commented that anything with a cookie base has got to be delicious). This time the bar had more of a shortbread base, which I liked more because the custard shined more. Either is delicious though! I gave a friend the junk food bar and the cookies. She loved the junk food bar giving it a 8/10 (she wished there were more chips since she couldn't taste them), but said it was very good and not too decadent even though it looked insane! The man serving us seemed a little scattered and slow (he forgot our carrot cake), but it's a chaotic time so I'll give him that. He also wouldn't let us have a third cruffin even though there were two of us (we watched another couple split up to get around this, but we didn't feel that we needed a third that badly to press). So all the desserts I've had from here are very good but I think the management and staff need to work on communicating with each other better because they don't always seem to be on the same page. I called early December to order 6 dozen macaroons for a bridal shower being held on the 29th. I was told no problem, call back 2 weeks before to place my order. I call back 2 weeks from the shower and was shocked to hear they were closing on Christmas Eve and not reopening until after the New Year. How the staff didn't know that is beyond me, but it sounds like a common theme based on other people's online reviews is that the people answering the phone aren't as informed as they could be. It was like mainlining sugar. I finished the cookies over an hour ago, and my mouth still tastes like sugar. I am very disappointed in my recent experience. I have tried this place at least five times, and I've always enjoyed the treats. We got four cupcakes last Saturday and they all tasted stale (we ate them between Saturday and Monday; and even Saturday the cake was so dry and bland). For the price there should be consistent quality. And if not you would certainly think they'd stand by their product and offer a refund or "exchange." They were unwilling to do either. So good I forgot to take pics LOL! My husband and I live right down New Britain Ave in Hartford from here and finally got around to trying their goods. I was worried that they would close down soon because historically businesses have not done well in that location due to it being a bit hidden from the main thoroughfare; we had also passed by on weekdays and saw that it was empty so I was definitely biting my nails. I guess they (like many other places) are much busier on weekends because today is Saturday and it was pretty packed! I love seeing local businesses doing well I got a pour-over decaf and a Lemon Lavender Bar and my husband got a regular coffee and a Black & White Cheesecake Bar - the total was about $14, not including tip which I believe we gave about 15%. The coffee was good and I personally loved the Lemon Lavender Bar. It is fairly sweet because the bar has a thin layer of lavender flavored royal icing on top and the lemon curd of the bar is lightly sweetened as well. However, I didn't feel it was overwhelmingly sweet; the sweetness of the icing was countered nicely by the floral of the lavender, the tartness of the lemon curd, and the buttery crust (I also don't put sweetener of any kind in my coffee typically so the bitterness from that provided a nice break). Overall, would definitely recommend and will be buying again. I tried a few bites of my husband's cheesecake bar as well and was very pleased! Often times with cheesecake anything places make it WAY TOO sweet, but the cheesecake part of the bar was the perfect level of sweet and had a very light drizzle of white and dark chocolate on top. I was also impressed with the crust of the bar; I honestly wonder if it is a non-bake recipe because it very buttery and has a wonderful taste and crunchy dark brown sugar which gives it a pleasant molasses flavor. Again, would recommend and will be getting again. I will absolutely be revisiting this bakery again! I know there are a couple of reviews on here saying that some items were sickly sweet or not to their liking but I will definitely be going back to see for myself. I had been excited for this place to open closeby. I got some baked goods a few times and they were decent, not the best I've ever had...a little dry, perhaps. Maybe day old as I wasn't always stopping in first thing in the morning. Place is cute and counter staff friendly. I decided to place an order for my husband's birthday cake. I started a month in advance and called to see if they could make it without nuts (I have a moderately severe allergy, so can't just pick them out, etc. but do not need a nut free facility) and was told yes. I also stopped in, bought a few things, and asked again and asked about sizing so I could get a visual of what size to order. I then placed the order via phone. All interactions with the staff were extremely pleasant and enthusiastic. Two weeks later, I received a call from the owner saying they don't do that cake without nuts and that the order "never should have been taken." I asked if they could suggest somewhere that would and was told to "hold on" and then told they'd honor it this time because the employee took the order. No apology, just absolute gruffness. When I asked in a local group about a place that might do a carrot cake without nuts (not mentioning this owner's rudeness), the owner became defensive and supported comments of another local restaurateur who said that I wasn't actually allergic to nuts, I just didn't like them. If there had been some graciousness in the owner's handling of the situation, and if she hadn't, in an open forum, claimed she was "nothing but kind" to me when she absolutely wasn't, if she hadn't also, in an open forum, agreed with someone calling me a liar about a food allergy, I might have used them for something else in the future. However, given the owner does not really care about allergies/health and does not believe she needs to treat customers well, except for show in an open forum, I would not recommend this place, unless you need a cute place for a photo shoot. As for her claim that me speaking truth could hurt her business and employees, I'm thinking, given her attitude (and now what I've heard from others about her treatment of customers), it's probably the employees saving her. I hope she's not terribly hard on them for giving me the incorrect information. read more

Went here twice last week and picked up dessert to bring to a friends house. The maple creme brûlée cupcakes were my favorite. This is one of the best bakeries I've ever been to. Cupcakes are $3 a piece and we also got a cookie bar type dessert that was awesome too. I am definitely going back. Horrible customer service. Cashier was sitting behind counter and didn't even address as entered store. Then gave excuses why they had no baked goods for sale when that is what they sell. It's understandable supply may be limited, however experienced multiple instances of the same behavior of 'not wanting to help the customer' or 'making up excuses why we have no product'. Was very frustrated and felt as a customer that my business wasn't wanted nor valued. It's one thing for a bakery or dessert business not having any baked items for sale, but to have workers who treat customers in such a unprofessional manner is a much deeper issue. read more
