A year ago I took my 2003 Chevy Silverado in. This truck I bought back in 2016 and put some hard miles for work, the truck had several problems i couldn't diagnose and really I was about to give up on it. Any time I would drive up a grade the truck lost power and also the dash annunciator was faulting. I asked for a full look at the truck and to make her roadworthy. Worst service EVER! Needed car smogged and they charged over $800 it didn't pass they made repairs without getting approval first they wouldn't give me the old parts they said they replaced. They told us they had to make a bunch of things but it wouldn't pass smog spent $3000 getting my car to pass smog. Was told their techs did more than read results but wouldn't give any proof They are always ripping people off selling cars that they said were totaled when they were not. We got stranded in Ridgecrest when driving home from Kernville on Easter Day. We stayed overnight and found this place in the morning. They answered the phone on the first ring, and got us in within the hour! The car was toast because of an engine recall, but they helped us get our oil changed so that Kia wouldn't have a reason to heckle us or try to get out of the warranty when we towed the car in. They even printed us out the full recall and diagnostic packet, so we came in with the correct info when the car was dropped off. Helped us in a pinch! Plus, the dogs were cute. read more

3.9 stars. They sent me a nice oil change coupon in the mail and I redeemed it a few days ago. Calling to schedule an appointment was smooth. The person who checked me in seemed like a manager, and that process was also smooth. The waiting area had good Wi-Fi so I could do some work but the room had not been cleaned in quite some time. Another person gave me the rundown of the status of my car when service was done. He seemed inexperienced, a bit disengaged, and didn't know my car was a hybrid until I asked him which battery he meant when he said the battery failed the load test. He accommodated my request for quotes on a battery and new tires but said their quotes do not include tax. A couple days later I called in to ask if they would price match for the Firestone tires they quoted me on because the Firestone website had them at a much better price. They said, "We don't price match online stuff." Welp, that pretty much means EVERYTHING, since everything's online! What a joke. Anyways, I got my new tires installed out of town for a much better price. Overall, it seems like a good place for basic maintenance but my first impression left something to be desired. My brother, who is disabled, does deliverers part time for income. truck broke down in a parking lot in town. He called this company because they offered towing. He didn't have the money for the repair so he called me for help. The STARTER needed replaced. Looking up the cost, the most expensive I saw was $111. This shop bill was just under $1,200. I live in northern CA and was unable to do anything but pay the bill. THIS CHARGE WAS EXCESSIVE! To replace a $100 part. The only reason I'm giving a 1-1/2 star is they towed an repaired. paul and sons ripped off my daughter and soon to be son-in-law off. they quoted them for 2 repairs a fuel sensor and a Cadillac converter the quote was a lot less then what the price was. they charged them $6800 for the fix when the parts don't cost that much and labor shouldn't be that much either. they ripped off a young couple with a baby. I would never take my vehicle to them to get it fixed ever again. read more

My husband and I were just a few hours into our summer road trip when we heard our car making a grinding sound, and we thought oh no the brakes! When we pulled into Paul and sons, they helped us immediately, let us bring our dogs into the AC and brought them water (it was 115 out). They made sure we were safe to continue on our vacation until we got to our friends place and he could officially replace the part that was faulty (thankfully, it wasn't the brakes or rotors. Woo!). Took my truck in for a check engine light that I already read the codes for. They charged me $360 for a diagnostic and told me my turbo and actuator were bad and it would be $9600 for them to repair. I had some recalls to take care of so I took my truck to hunter dodge and asked them to check it out while fixing the recalls. They explained the simple process to check the turbo and actuator before doing it. They fixed everything and told me the turbo was fine and a proper diagnostic by Paul and sons would have easily proven that. The actuator was the culprit and was only a $600 fix. I hate that Paul and sons got the $360 diagnostic fee, just to lie to me and try to get almost 10k more. But at least I went to an honest dealership for a second opinion. read more

I drove my car into this shop and had it diagnosed for 400 bucks they then proceeded to tell me they were gonna send my heads to a machine shop to remove a broken bolt that had nothing to do with what I sent my car in the shop for and tried to charge me over $5,000.00 for that. They did no original repairs requested to my car so I picked it up and they charged me $845.00 for me to get it back taken apart and unable to be driven. I am definitely taking this business to court for what they did to my vehicle they even drained all my fluids. Brought my truck in to be diagnosed for multiple issues via A & L Tire who brought it to Paul and Sons since it's their "sister company and they have a diesel mechanic". Gave A&L a list of problems and told me what the diagnostic fee would be for diesel $350. Paul and Son's changed the air filter and called the problem solved within 24 hrs (which was 3 issues all connected but only 1 of like 6 issues). I asked about the other issues and they told me the fee was for only one problem, so if I wanted them to check the other issues it would be a separate diagnostic fee for each issue, which A&L said nothing about when I dropped the truck off. I said forget it and picked up the truck, I asked what is their warranty/guarantee if the issue is not fixed. They said 2 year or so many miles and if it wasn't fixed then I could bring it back in and they would try again. Within 20 miles I could tell that none of the problems were fixed. I have called 3 times about what A7&L and Paul and Son's were going to do to fix this and each time they couldn't tell me anything but they would call back, they never did. The manager will call, he never did. They only thing they could say was that they would have to charge another diagnostic fee to check it out. So not only did they not fix anything but they can't even stand behind their own warranty. $350 to change an air filter unbelievable. Obviously they have no clue what they are doing and are too lazy to try. read more

I was a repeat customer until I had my SUV diagnosed for a grinding sound in front end for $190. Then was told they couldn't locate problem but would continue to look for another $600+. Then once they found the problem they'd notify me of problem and how much more to repair it. $190+$600+?=NO THANKS! Was charged over $1000 to replace the tires on an old car. Also told the alignment would be taken care of. Ended up paying over $1000 for tires but no alignment. Asked why we had to pay such a large amount for services that weren't rendered, and got the usual 'we tried, but sorry, you pay'. If you can avoid this city, please do. read more

I was skeptical with the reviews. However with a broken down van on a Friday afternoon I had no choice. They looked at it that afternoon but needed more time. So they looked first thing Monday morning. They communicated well the whole time about costs and work that should be done. They ordered the parts and got it done Tuesday. My van is really hard to work on and I'm grateful they took it in last minute and did the work fully. They didn't half ass it. They wanted to make sure the work got done right. Thanks you guys for working on a 30 year old mid engine !! Super nice people there too. Probably not the cheapest but gonna do the work and not cut corners. read more

Dropped my car off at 0800 and didn't get it back until around 1630. I completely understand that it takes awhile to get parts in our little town, but I had all day so I didn't need my truck back and they knew it. Customer service was great and they called me every chance they could to let me know if there was a snag in the job or how close they were to finishing or when the parts would arrive at the store. Amazing customer service and really reasonable especially in a small town. They aren't out to "rip you off" like other local shops. Service was quick even still, they offered me their loaner car so my daughters and I didn't have to wait in the lobby for an hour. Best part is their shop pup!! Cannot recommend. I suspected there was a problem with my car when I kept hearing a strange noise while driving especially while beginning to accelerate from a stop or while sitting in idle. I suspected it being the transmission but that wasn't the case. They ran a diagnostic on it and all they found was that my motor mounts might be going bad and also suggested servicing the transmission. The cost for this would have been $1,300. After taking it to someone in my family who is a mechanic he was able to diagnose it in 2 minutes as being a problem with my idle control valve which is easily noticed whenever I turn on or off the AC. Turns out it's a pretty simple fix as well. I was charged $124 for the Diagnostics and I got literally nothing out of it. I would not return here is specially for the prices that they are quoting. read more

As A new resident to the fine city of Ridgecrest I was hoping not to need a car repair within the first two months of being here, but it is what it is. My fiancé had taken her car to the shop across the street before so we had called them for a estimate on what I believed to be the concern. First off the shop across the street was booked for three weeks (yes 3 weeks) and on top of that I felt she was a bit rude so since this is our only car and being on a fixed income I called Paul's. At first I was a bit upset since the place across the street and I was a bit short with Genesis, but she was calm, kind and willing to help and in a timely manner. We choose not to wait the 3 weeks and had our car towed to them. I had gotten a call with a estimate. At first again I got upset as the repair was more than we could afford and needed at this time, but again Genesis took the blunt of my frustration and turned it around. She showed again that this place is a viable and honest repair shop who does care. The frustration was still there as the car is a bit older and we were on the fence about the repair and the money, but the quality and the timely repair. A car repair is never a easy thing to except nor desire, but when you come across someone with compassion, kindness and honesty you know inside you found the right place. Plus no three week wait for the so called best repair shop here and on top of that you have the pleasure of knowing you found the ONLY repair shop you need here in Ridgecrest. Genesis is a true blessing to come across in this difficult time as she showed a stranger to this town what we all look for in a repair shop, honesty, respect and understanding. Nice waiting area. Came here for the oil change special as advertised in the Swap Sheet. They have stereo/install "specials". Install seems to be more that the stereo itself after I did a quick item price check on the internet. Would probably check around town, or go to Lancaster for a new stereo. They have a Keurig, which is a PLUS! :). Of course, for sales purposes, they checked over my car for things that needed to be fixed. I told them I recently had my 100k mile service done. I was told I needed a coolant flush immediately because corrosion was found in the fluid. I had the fluid flushed only 8 months ago by my very trusted previous mechanic, who would have told me about any major concern like this. When I mentioned that I had this flush done recently I was told " well then the corrosion must be very fast". What?? Fluid was tested for voltage when it was warm with a reading of .255. According to my research, this is not cause for an immediate fix and this reading is NORMAL. I will consider revising this review if I have any issues that come up where this .255 reading should have been a concern. Until then, I will not promote this facility. read more

I was in a pinch and wanted it done asap so I went along with it. Took longer than expected had to take it back multiple times to finally get the sound I was looking for. I brought in my vehicle at 10am., given an estimate and told the vehicle would be checked by around noon and if the estimate was low, I would be called for approval. By 2pm I called expecting the minor brake repair would be almost finished, but was told they would get back to me. After 30 minutes and no return call I arrived and learned they recommended twice as much work doubling my estimate. I declined the extra work, and was then told the original estimate would increase by 35% and the work would take another 3 hours. I refused everything and fortunately drove away. If you have hours of time to waste and don't mind pressure tactics, patronize Paul and Son's. I would never want to be towed there. read more

They charged me 1200 USD for towing a motorcycle for 60 miles. They took advantage of an accident and charged any amount they would come up with. 60 usd for storing the bike per day, and 290 usd by hour towing it. I strongly not recommend them! read more

This place is terrible. They misdiagnosed a blown head gasket as a bad radiator. They had already done the repair for the radiator before they found the problem with the head gasket so I was stuck with the bill and a dead car. They also way overcharged for the repair of the radiator. read more

My car would not start, contacted Paul & Sons for a tow. They arrived, and in my attempt to demonstrate the problem, the car started. So, I decided not to have the car towed, but drove it home immediately to decide how to find/fix the problem. About an hour later (after normal work hours), Paul contacted me at home and gave me advice on the potential problem. He was 100% correct, and saved me from having the car taken into the shop for an expensive repair. That is great customer service! read more

My family and I went to Ridgecrest the day before Thanksgiving for a funeral, and on the way home to San Diego, my car's break system went out- whole thing, locked up and smoking! We were on the side of the desert highway, having little luck with my car insurance towing, and felt a bit stressed out! My mom found Paul & Sons online, and gave them a call. A wonderful young man, (Frank, I think) arrived in about 20 minutes with a huge tow truck and hauled us back into town for diagnostic. He was super easy-going and kind, putting us immediately at ease. The service back at the shop was the same. Jason, one of the sons, kept us abreast of the work at every step of the way making sure I knew my options. The towing price was very fair, as well as the diagnostic work. Though they offer fair labor prices I cannot afford the cost of repairs in one fell swoop, and have to tow my car back home to San Diego to determine next steps. While we were still there and coming to terms with the gravity of things, they helped me locate a rental car facility as well as offered to drive us over since we were literally stranded! We went with Avis, who was great to us as well. When I got off the phone after making rental arrangements I found my mother had been visiting with a friendly older gentleman who turned out to be the owner. He offered to drive me over to Avis himself while my family waited back at the shop. He was so very nice and we felt the entire situation was landing us in safe hands after all... If I lived in the area I would surely bring my car here for upkeep! It is not very often you find an honest, courteous, and kind family-owned business that runs on the integrity built into their business model! We could not have asked for a better business to rescue us on the side of a desert highway at 3:00 in the afternoon the day before Thanksgiving!! I would choose lower but this is the lowest ratings! DISHONEST and SLOW is all I can say. Held my 1940 Packard hostage for over 2 mos. until Paul Sr. got inspired to work on it. Made a lot of un-authorized repairs and charged over $4,000.00 for a clutch. Would not release the car until his repairs were complete. RIP OFF! Do Not Come here!! You have been warned. read more

Cannot recommend this place. Like the others, i feel overcharged for services received. Headlight went out due to a loose cable but was charged the first time for refitting the cable and the next day, when the light went out again, I was charged again for them replacing the cable costing 140 dollars. I feel I was charged twice for the same job. I went back again for check engine light due to an unfitted spark plug. Just for the diagnostic was 155 dollars. The cost for replacing the cylinder was 1800 but they wanted to do all cylinders and timing belt at the same time for 2800 even with a 10% discount for being a military veteran this is a terrible price. I can get a whole new engine for 2800. basically I was charge 300 dollars for fixing a broken headlight and tell me what is wrong with my engine. read more
