This is a look back of my partial knee replacement of my right leg since 7 years ago. Although I was 69 years old, the recovery speed was quite good. I felt very weak on my first day and only able to walk about 20 feet. But I felt no pains on day 1 and spent first night in the Castle hospital with sound sleep. On second day I felt much better and continued to be pain free. Walk about 150 feet and attend the lunch meeting with other patients to share post op experiences. I worked with the resident physical therapist and easily reached ROM at 90 degree, then I made my first mistake to accept the urge from p. t. to continue increasing the bending angle to 98 degrees. I felt a sharp pain and injured something I thought. This injury might cause excessive swearing of my knee. At 3 pm, I was sent back to home. Since I did not feel much pains, I did not take pain medicine after returning home. This is my second mistake. I felt very sharp pains after mid night. Then I started taking pain medicine, but it was too late. Pains came like waves and I could not sleep anymore. My stomach got very upset from Oxycodone, so I switched to less effective drug tramadol which only partially block my pains. On day 5, the pains subsided a lot so that I stop taking prescribed pain medicine. Only took tylenol before knee bending exercises. The first two weeks I did not push myself too much as my leg excessive swelling was hard for me to bend too much. After 4 weeks p. t., my ROM was only 100. After 8 weeks, ROM was about 115 and I stopped going to p. t. sessions. I continued to do home exercises to bend my knees. Eventually I got ROM 120 after 5 years post op. A very long journey but I am very happy and grateful to Dr. Rasmussen. After 3 weeks post op, I could drive and walked without assistance to do my daily activities such as shopping or going to beaches. However, I experienced some pains deep inside my knee for a very long time if I walked more than one mile. Dr. Rasmussen thought this pain was caused by scar tissues inside my knee. Luckily the scar tissue problem suddenly disappeared after 5 years. Before the surgery, I asked Dr. Rasmussen, what is the success rate of a knee replacement? She replied to me, 100% success rate from me. Her confidence gave me comfort and calm feeling. Indeed, if you have a healthy body and prepare yourself with pre op exercises, you have nothing to worry about. 20 years ago Dr Rasmussen performed a full hip replacement on me, at the time I was a 50yo male in good physical shape. I recovered quite quickly and never had any problems. Circumstances returned me Happily to Oahu where I got the opportunity to see Linda again for the other hip. Absolutely changed my life at 69. It has been 8 weeks since my surgery and I am able to work out again, swim with no pain. I know it sounds silly, but just going for a walk without pain is beyond words for people who know. I am now 6 weeks post Total Knee Replacement surgery and this is my long winded review singing high praises for Dr. Linda Rasmussen. I've been suffering with right knee pain for a number of years. Had arthroscopic surgery for torn meniscus twice in the past. I could feel my bones rubbing and I'm an active person, so I kept at my normal brutal workouts in spite of the pain. Previously consulted with a few orthopedic surgeons and had the cortisone and gel injections for pain relief. My first meeting with Dr. Linda was March 2024. My hope was to schedule my TKR in 2025. Dr. Linda was very friendly and upon observing my x-rays advised me to have a total knee replacement sooner than later. Dr. Linda informed me that my knee looked very bad and it could just give out at any time which would result in other possible injuries. My biggest fear was taking opioids post surgery for pain. I know a few people who became addicted and I did not want this to happen to me. Dr. Linda listened to my concerns and explained that post surgery pain could be managed with either the opioids or around the clock Ibuprofen & Tylenol. We scheduled surgery for July 15, 2024. The staff at Castle Hospital was nothing short of amazing from the joint care class, to the pre-op EKG & blood screening and my surgery day. I was Dr. Linda's first surgery on the day of. I was a bit nervous, however again, the staff at Castle put me at ease. Dr. Linda came in to greet me before the surgery and assured me that the procedure would take under an hour. She spent a few more minutes reassuring my husband that I was in good hands and she would call him as soon as I was done. The surgery went great and I was able to go home by 2 pm. I stayed the course with the Ibuprofen & Tylenol pain management from the time I arrived home. I can honestly say that I did not experience any real pain, just a certain level of discomfort post surgery due to swelling and bruising. Within a few days, with icing and elevating I felt better. I never needed to use the walker and was up and walking around the house that night. By day 7, I could hold my weight up on my surgery leg! The scar has healed very nicely too. I am deeply grateful to Dr. Linda Rasmussen and her wonderful staff for getting me through this. I would highly recommend Dr. Linda to anyone who is living with pain and is on the fence about surgery, to make an appointment for a consult. You will not be disappointed. On 07/02/2025 I slip and fracture my left knee patella not to mention my patella shift down wards. Dr Rasmussen did my surgery and she is amazing! To date which is 10/14/2025 I just had my last follow up with her and I'm walking and able to bend my knee she did a messurment in the office and I can go from 0-130 of bending. She did send me to PT to which I am still going, but she is amazing. She takes time to explain and answer any questions you will have. SHE IS AMAZING!! I suffered for 3 years with right hip pain after an injury and an orthopedic doctor who counseled me to hold off on surgery as long as I could. Seeking relief and a physician who could help me, it was a godsend to stumble across raving reviews for Dr Rasmussen. Unlike other doctors, I got an immediate appointment. She already reviewed my history and imaging at my first appointment, took X-rays and recommended surgery. She explained everything, was positive, direct and reassuring. A surgery date was offered within two weeks, but upcoming travel plans delayed the procedure and I was scheduled for two weeks after my return. I couldn't even get an appointment with my prior physician for six months! The pre-op class was very informative and helpful. Pre-registration went smoothly. Surgery day was seamless and surgery was at 7:30a. I saw Dr Ras before and after the surgery that day! By 11:30a I was being discharged and headed home. My recovery went well. Up and walking day of surgery. Pain was minimal and switched to Tylenol on 4th day post op. Returned to work on a modified schedule week 4 post op. Walker was used only used for safety while ambulating outside of the home. Follow up appointment went well and X-rays showed device intact. I'm a lifelong heavyweight and am grateful she helps obese people. For those complaints about following her diet, please know that it is for your best interest to avoid inflammation that hinders healing. You will adapt... believe me (a lifelong unsuccessful dieter) but you have to be positive and put your health first. A side benefit... after decades I'm now off my prescription medications. Her staff? Not sure about the low ratings but they were amazing to me! Clearance notes? I had them before I walked out of my appointments. Follow up calls? Caitlin (sp?) called and texted several times to check up. My endless questions? Answered during my calls without having to call back. That's rare in this day and age... usually you get press 1 or 2 automated responses and no live person! Never felt rushed or unheard in my appointments! Every question or concern was answered. * are you hesitant in getting surgery done? I can say don't suffer any more and seriously consider it. I'm so thankful to have finally done it. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The healing period precautions was the inconvenience for me... not used to taking it easy. But now 5 weeks post op, there is little I can't do but am still gentle on the range of motion. Her reviews speak for itself. If you're worried about going to Castle? Don't be! They were so amazing and I will choose them and their excellent patient care and customer service from now on. Five stars? Only because there's not an option for a 10 rating. I've recommended her to everyone who's asked me about my procedure. She's been doing this for 3 decades?! That's comforting and reassuring to me, along with all those success stories. Don't suffer any more. Consider visiting her office then make your decision. At 65 years old, I'm glad my sunset years can be more active, enjoyable and productive. Total hip replacement @ 61 years old. Dr Rasmussen has the best bedside manner, explains everything to make you feel calm and this was my first surgery. She spoke to me prior to surgery to make sure i was ready. And followup was just as relaxing and informative. I just love Dr. Rasmussen. She is the best. She did my full knee replacement surgery on 12/13 and while I have had a difficult recovery (for other reasons), at 10 days post, I am doing really well. I hesitated (fear of hospitals) getting a knee replacement for years and years and now that I have had it done I am kicking myself I didn't get it done 10 years earlier when Dr. Rasmussen recomended it. The surgery has given me a much much better quality of life. Dr. Rasmussen confidence in her ability to help me was so palpable that it convinced me to get it done. The whole experience was not nearly as bad as I visioned in my mind. The surgery was fast and efficient. I was in and out of the hospital in four hours. The pain was well controlled with the pain pills. I stuck to Dr. Rasmussen's recommended diet and discovered it made me feel so much better. I never realized how addicted I was to sugar and unhealthy carbs like white rice until I stopped eating it. I went through a withdrawal period for a few weeks. Four months later, however, I don't crave those unhealthy foods at all and I can tell my body really appreciates the healthy foods and ample amount of proteins I am providing to it. I am a 78 year old woman, and Dr Rasmussen has replaced one of my knees and both of my hips, as well as my father's knee around 2000, when he was around 80 years old. I have the utmost confidence in her medical competence and judgment, as my remedial surgeries have allowed me to continue my active life style. My latest hip replacement was a preventive one, as she detected multiple cysts on the femur ball which would have eventually resulted in a fracture, were it not for a preemptive replacement now. As hip replacements these days last 40 years, there really was no excuse for my putting it off any longer. I felt that It may have precluded a really troublesome remedial surgery later. Dr. Rasmussen performed a full hip replacement on my left hip and did a fabulous job! I Haverty had any bruising, the incision was glued shut so the scarring is minimal and I'm almost back to 100% just five weeks post surgery! She is extremely gentle and I don't have any numbness or loss of sensation. I am overly pleased with the outcome and so grateful that the VA referred me to her! I highly recommend her to anyone needing a hip replacement. Side note: if you need a walker the VA sucks and it takes weeks but you can get one for about $12-$15 from your local Goodwill store. I'm from San Francisco and just recently discovered from an MRI that I had a torn ACL and 3 tears to my meniscus on my left knee. My San Francisco orthopedic surgeon did not want to repair my knee as he felt I didn't need it considering that I'm not very active and at my age, recovery might be challenging. Went to Dr Rasmussen for 2nd opinion without telling her anything except a copy of my MRI on disc. She suggested I hold off on surgery, not because of my age, weight or inactivity but she explained she would like to see me exhaust using PT and a brace to stabilize my knee before we consider surgery. She said my knee was in good condition with minimal arthritis so there's no immediate need to repair it if PT and a knee brace could stabilize it. When the arthritis progresses more, she has no hesitation to do a knee replacement... when needed. Love that she explained why I can hold off for now. I arrived on island in January 2025, looking forward to a winter of diving. Unfortunately, I suffered an accelerated deterioration of my hip and found myself unable to walk, let alone dive. A friend recommended I go see Dr. Rasmussen. I spend 5 months on island every winter and return to Cleveland Ohio. Dr. Rasmussen advised me that I was a fracture risk. My choices were to immediately return to Cleveland and have total hip replacement surgery there (where I had my 4 previous joint replacements done); have surgery here on island (in 3 weeks); or do nothing and roll the dice that I don't suffer a fracture. I am from Maui. I am so happy that my husband registered us for one of Dr. Rasmussen's seminars. Her sincerity, conviction and knowledge of what she can do to make me better was what gave me the confidence to have the surgery. Both my knees were bad. After hearing her, I was all in and I've had both knees done. The first in March and two months later, the second knee. If you thinking about doing one knee, just do it, you'll be so happy. My senior aunt (who already had a half knee cap surgery from a different surgeon) has been going to Dr. Rasmussen for this last year or so. About 6 months ago she got a full knee implant for the other knee and has had problems non stop since then. My aunt is very petite and does yoga regularly and has tried to do everything recommended to her by her doctor for post care. My aunt has been experiencing extreme pain for these last 6 months and would tell Dr. Rasmussen at her follow up appointments. For several months she would ignore my aunt's complaining until finally she sarcastically asked my aunt if she wanted to get an X Ray scan to prove there was nothing wrong. When getting the results back, apparently the doctor has made a mistake and explained that it only happens in every 1 out of 100 patients (as if that justifies her negligence!) Since these findings, she has not been able to do any corrections of my aunt's knee, so my aunt has had to suffer. Her daily life is drastically affected, she can't even go up and down the stairs at her town house to go outside for a walk. She's become extremely depressed and all when now some other health concerns (not related to the infected knee) and it's just really unfortunate that she's having to go through with this at her age. We are searching for a different doctor(s) to have a look at her case and are hoping not to be seeing Dr. Rasmussen again. read more

I have always checked out reviews for everything from a recipe to a product to dentists or doctors. So, I felt like I would be negligent if I didn't leave a review here. A year and a half ago, my left hip started hurting. The pain radiated from the hip to my knee to my ankle. I tried everything from acupuncture, cupping, acupressure, chiropractic, and massage therapy. Nothing worked. I finally decided I needed to look at other options. I called the Windward Orthopedic Group in Kailua and set up a meeting with Dr. Rasmussen. She was wonderful. She explained what was going on with my hip and how it could be fixed. The latest in mid-October 2023 resulted in my walking out of surgery, and never used a chair or crutches. A walker for a few days, then trekking poles. Had partial knee replacement with Navio system. Dr. Rasmussen performed. Results--excellent. After one week, I could shed the walker and put weight on knee operated on. After one month (now), I am doing most things normally with minimal discomfort if any. Incision was initially glued shut (no stitches). Healing very well. Putting Aloe on incision to minimize scaring. Dr. Rasmussen is excellent. It make a while to work your way through the office staff, but she is top shelf. Highly recommend. read more

My knee replacement of two months is on the way to complete healing. I'm already resuming activities that I had quit because of pain. Dr. Rasmussen was referred to me by my sister-in-law. I feel so fortunate to have had both hips replaced by her. The first one in the fall of 2019 and this one just over a month ago. Yet again the recovery time was amazing. Not to mention the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at Castle Hospital (now number 1 in Hawaii). I was up and walking the day of my surgery and went home the following day to our 2 story house. The pain lasted less than a week and I was off all meds soon after. 9 March 2022 I really feel bad about not posting this sooner! In June of 2020 my wife had both of her knees replaced by Dr Rasmussen at Castle Memorial Hosp - 1st one, then about 5 months later the other one. She had her physical therapy done in Kailua and we couldn't be happier with the results and the follow up. She still goes in for her 5,000 mile check ups and is still doing fantastic. I recently had total Right hip replacement on 03 Jan 2022 performed by Dr. Linda Rasmussen. I chose Dr Rasmussen due to my previous knee surgery she performed years ago. Hip surgery was inpatient; in by 8 am and out by 4:30pm. Post op was painful but less so than my knee surgery. Pain meds for 2 days. The incision site remained painful for a few weeks, but the joint pain was minimal and gone after 1 month. Walking with a walker out of caution for 3 days, then without any assistive devices. I was not offered Physical therapy, but expect it would have been beneficial. I walked a lot. First around the house every 1/2 hr. This was to ensure blood flow as well as exercise surrounding muscles. I performed the recommended exercises given by the hospital. Checked up with Dr Rasmussen after one month and was cleared for unlimited activities (no running or jumping). I was back to surfing one month and 3 days after surgey. However, I feel I still need to rebuild strength. As such, I incorporated squats and leg presses into my workout. Bottom line, I am back to my active life style wthout pain because of Dr Rasmussen's skill as an orthopedic surgeon. read more

From the moment I went into her office, she was super rude and blamed all of my pain and issues to me being overweight and even gave me low carb recipes and menus!!!!!! She insinuated that all my pain was from my weight and I'm not even that fat and did not even listed to the fact that I fell down a flight of stairs and that's how I got hurt!!!!! My mom has been suffering back and hip pain for 6+ years. She went to many different Dr's to releive the pain- Chiropractor and Acupuncture. Although it was a temporary releif, it did not take away her pain. Within 2 years, my moms mobility declined. I researched online for a specialist in hip pain and came across Dr. Rassmussen. At my previous Ortho Clinic it felt like I wasn't getting proper care or medical advice. Dr. Rasmussen brought me back from the brink of despair. I am 55 yrs old and an avid golfer. For over a year I was going from one back surgeon to another trying to figure out why I couldn't bend forward and lift my left leg. I couldn't put on my socks or tie my shoes either. I couldn't even go up or down stairs without great effort. Finally someone suggested I see a hip specialist instead. I walked in, met Dr. Rasmussen, got X-rays taken then and there, and walked out with a surgery date 3 weeks later for a full left hip replacement. It was shocking to say the least. However, Dr. Rasmussen talked me through the procedure and answered all my questions. She is a very old school, no sugar coating type of person. I loved that. I asked around and heard nothing but great feedback about her skills. The day of surgery, she came to see me prior to the procedure and again reassured me. It was painless and I woke up with a brand new hip. I was told by many people that I would need to go through physical therapy, but Dr. Rasmussen said I was young enough and motivated enough that I wouldn't need therapy. She was right. I was very careful (my wife was strict) with not over doing anything. I ditched the walker after about 10 days, and ditched the cane after about 3 weeks. At one month Dr. Rasmussen said I was healing very well and cleared me to start slowly swinging a golf club again. At exactly 8 weeks post surgery, I went out and played a full round of golf (swinging the club around 80%). Yesterday I went in to see Dr. Rasumessen at 13 weeks post surgery. She took new X-rays and said the hip looks fantastic. I explained that I was back at the gym and had lost 20 lbs since the surgery (I am overweight and still need to lose another 30 lbs). She said I was doing even better than she hoped and said my next check up is in two years. She said my new hip should last the rest of my life. My mobility is at about 80% and I still am not allowed to run. I am slowly getting my flexibility back. I can climb stairs up and down unassisted and without using the handrails. I would highly recommend Dr Rasmussen, the Staff & the Windward Orthopedic Group in general. My Mom who turn 90yo in May of 2022 had outstanding results for Her left hip replacement surgery in April of 2022. This is now August & everything has healed nicely & she can walk, COOK for herself again & generally enjoy life again. In December of 2021, she could barely walk & was in excruciating pain that she couldnt do much but lie in bed. At first, she said absolutely NO to any surgery, but was at least open to getting an assessment from Dr Rasmussen. Dr Rasmussen said that hip replacement was the only option for her because the hip was so bad. Or if no surgery, she would be in the same excruciating pain she was in then for the rest of her life. She iwas on board as soon as she heard that!! My Mom is tiny 90 yo Japanese woman from Hokkaido, Japan, she is a fighter & still wants to enjoy life without so much pain. This month we had a belated 90th bday party for her when the rest of the Family could make it to Hawaii to celebrate her 90th, as well as a Granddaughters baby shower & her Only grandson's promotion to LT Colonel. Her Life is relatively pain free & she is able to enjoy all of the Family milestones & events. Hard to get a little Japanese lady from Japan to be optimistic, but she is now optimistic & thanks Dr Rasmussen she is walking & cooking again. There was a wait today but ALL the staff at windward ortho including the Doctor showed that they respected everyone's time and were working efficiently to get the patients seen. Dr. Rasmussen did a few checks on my knee and was able to quickly identify the issues. She was very knowledgeable and straight to the point. I live on Maui the past 12 years. I suffered serious knee pain, both knees, from 2012 onward. I worked on a stone surface pool deck as a Server for 6 years, every day limping some 6-8 miles in agony. Braces, medications, ointments, nothing helped. I visited a few orthopedic doctors, found none who had qualifications or empathy to deal with real solutions or knee replacement on Maui. Frustrated I reached out to the internet and Oahu. After an unpleasant phone experience with some receptionist for another orthopedist, I found Linda Rasmussen. I met Linda on October 26, 2016 at Windward Windward Orthopaedic Group in Kailua, Oahu. I went in for a routine exam and some x-rays. My knees suffered loss of cartilage and bone-on-bone crushing. My hips were also checked. It was found my left hip was in such a deplorable state it was in danger of immediate shatter and I was told I needed an emergency Total Hip Replacement. I was admitted to Castle Medical Center, also Kailua, two days later for the surgery. There wasn't any time to ponder about this, happened so fast. I left Castle Medical the same day as the surgery and flew back home to Maui. I have no outstanding memory from this operation, I recovered fast. I started physical therapy a week or so after surgery. Rarely used my walker. I believe I was driving a few weeks later. I live alone at home. Two months later, on December 28, 2016, I checked into Castle Medical again for a Total Knee Replacement, left knee. I stayed over one night. This one I well remember as some common complications occurred, namely swelling. But I recovered and was ambulatory with walker a couple weeks later. Sans walker some 6 weeks later. I used Maui provided transportation services to get around. I did "mall walking" in addition to physical therapy. Three months later, on March 25, 2017, I checked into Castle Medical again for another Total Knee Replacement, right knee. I stayed over two nights. Huge swelling and some infection, all common. Three months later this one was recovered and I returned to work. I was 1.5 inches taller due to corrections by all three joints! Linda was incredibly kind and empathetic, always available. Being on Maui I can't easily just visit Windward Orthopedic. But I did check in a month after the surgeries. Telephone support was awesome. Linda would call me back at my home and talk me out of whatever concern I had worked myself up into. See was like an Angel. I looked forward to hearing her calming voice. This review is being written October 22, 2017, about one year after this bionic journey started. The quality of my life has changed one thousand times for the better. I am completely pain free in my knees. I stand tall and straight. Once again, I walk correctly, and without lurching or leaning funny. About a month prior to the first knee replacement I made the life changing decision to STOP drinking alcohol, after 42 heavy years. No sense having alcohol surging through my body with operations and recoveries like these. I LOST 50 pounds of unnecessary fat in a month! That stop sticks to today, approximately 10 months later. When you are out for 8 months on Temporary Disability Insurance and income is bleak you learn to economize. All of this, and in doing so, the quality of my life INCREASED. I returned to bodybuilding at the gym 2.5 months after the second knee replacement. I have a history of bodybuilding and fitness in my blood. I returned to eating only healthy foods. I starting putting on muscle and good weight, continue to do so now. I have a Personal Trainer. I work out often 4-5 hours per day, 5 days a week in the gym. (I stopped working the Server job.) I joined NASM, National Academy of Sports Medicine, to become a Certified Personal Fitness Trainer. All this because Linda Rasmussen started me on the Road of Life Recovery and fixed me with her two hands! Belong my wildest dreams! And yes, and an Angel. I had been diagnosed with osteoarthritis of my left knee some 10 years ago by a sports medicine M.D. Since my wife and I love to travel, walking was very painful and limited our travel (Italy, etc.) This doctor recommended Hyaluronic Acid injections. I had that done on 3 different occasions, but the pain kept returning. Upon reading several reviews and seeing a video, I chose Dr. Linda Rasmussen which was is my third orthopedic surgeon to see within a month's time. Their recommendations were a partial knee replacement, the other could schedule me two months out. Dr. Rasmussen, however, was concerned about me having 10 years of pain, she recommended for a better quality of life is that she felt that a full left knee replacement was in order and could schedule the surgery within 2 weeks. I actually found Dr. Rasmussen on Yelp and what a total Godsend!! I had been dealing with this daily hip pain for years but two previous specialists said it was fine. Over the past few months since moving to Oahu, the pain just became awful, and a friend suggested I see someone. She actually sat and looked at me, and spoke to and LISTENED to me during the whole visit and did a quick exam and showed me the X-ray showing how horribly arthritic my hip joint had become and recommended surgery. Because of the COVID pandemic and my concern that the governor would stop all elective procedures we scheduled it for four days later!! She did a great job and the care I received at Castle was nothing short of pampering and I went home the next day. Her joint coordinator Jane is AMAZING!! She was available anytime I needed her to answer questions, give advice and get answers from Dr. Rasmussen if needed, which was so helpful since I live alone. I was back to work not quite full-time two weeks after my hip replacement and now five weeks out I hardly ever use my cane and the pain is manageable with just routine over the counter medications. Recent hip replacement surgery (7 Aug 20) went exactly as Dr Rasmussen said it would. A 2-3 day recovery with minimal pain, mostly discomfort, that lasted a few days. Dr. Linda Rasmussen did an excellent job with my two hip replacement surgeries in April and May 2020. She had a caring and kind bedside manner throughout the entire process with her professional style filled with confidence and humor.
