Everything we tasted - croissants, pain au chocolate, beignets, pastries and macaroons was delightful. We had a little bit of everything and still wanted more! We were famished after our catacombs tour. Our taxi driver actually recommended Paul's and we are so glad he did. We got sweet and savory options and some coffee. There's plenty of options to choose from with a helpful staff to answer questions along the way. The food was very tasty and exactly what you could want out of the experience. Waiting outside of a museum , we decided to stop in at Paul's. Had a few pastries with espresso. Very delicious. It was nearly closing time, so staff was cleaning up and putting away the baked goods. Chain establishment, but quite tasty baguette sandwich offerings! The ladies working were very sweet and helpful in telling us what each sandwich was. We ordered our sandwiches and got out of there pretty quickly. The total was only 13-14 euros for three sandwiches! Easily the least expensive meal we've had in Paris, and the portion was pretty large. I was definitely full after that sandwich. I had the Camembert sandwich which had sesame baguette, butter, Camembert, and lettuce. I wish there was some less better and more food, but that's alright. The bread was soft and chewy and crispy all at the same time, and the cheese was delicious. The sandwich really helped tide me over at the ridiculous catacomb line! read more

It seemed like there are more PAUL than Strabucks in Paris. I've seen so many of PAUL, and tried at least 3 or 4 of them. They have great sandwiches with fresh jambon, cheese, croissants, tartes. All so good. Service is fast. Our breakfast in Paris was fresh sandwiches at the PAUL, every morning. I wish we could have that level of sandwiches or croissant here! I miss PAUL! read more

I love Paul!!!!! Our hotel concierge described it as a French McDonald - and all I could think was how I probably wouldn't like it. But this place blew me away. It's literally located across the street from the catacombs. I loved stopping by for it's convenience. They have the most amazing eclair au chocolate and eclair au cafe. The Chantilly cream is so rich, the pastry super puffy, and the glaze glistens in the sunlight - mmmmmm... When I walked in they had a large number of people sitting inside and enjoying their breakfast but I decided to take mine to go. For tourists, here's what I recommend (especially if you're also interested in seeing the Catacombs.) Head over with a group and stand in line first thing in the morning (the wait can take a while). Send a friend over to this bakery shop to grab a bunch of food for breakfast or lunch while you are waiting. Trust me, their stuff is so good it makes the two hour line seem like two minutes (okay, so maybe not that short, but it kept us in a cheerful mood!). Plus, you get to save the time you were probably going to spend getting a meal somewhere else anyway. read more

It's so strange to be writing about a chain in Paris! Everywhere you go there is a Paul Boulangerie. It's like Starbucks. I saw at least four at the CDG airport. And this particular one was the first one we ran into, right across the street from the Catacombs. I did not have high expectations because it was swarming with tourists and mostly I went because I saw others walking out with tasty pastries and hot coffee and it was raining and we had waited nearing an hour already and I itched to get out of line. With perfect timing, a child walks past me with a French macaron so large he used both hands to hold it. It was that point that I got jealous because that is too much selfie potential to pass up. So off I went, leaving my guy for a giant French macaron. I spotted them in the window and sure enough they were gigantic. $4? Not bad. And the line actually went very fast so within five minutes I had paid and had in my hands, literally a palm-sized macaron. It was chewier than the petit macarons but still very tasty. I had a pistachio-flavoured one but there were also giant vanillas and raspberries available. If macarons aren't your thing, there are tasty sandwiches, pain du chocolate, croissants, little cakes and fruit pastries and every other thing to tempt you. You can't really go wrong, whatever you choose. Everything we tried (at this and the other Pauls) were quite good. read more

Small bakery with many delights! It served a perfect and impromptu treat destination while waiting in line for the Catacombs across the street. The selection is limited but enticing. Paul is a large chain, but they have good sandwiches and tasty freshly baked bread. The Denfert Rochereau location is particularly great because you can grab a quick lunch while waiting in line to see the catacombs. It took me a while to decide on a sandwich because the labels are all small, half of them are not visible, and they are all in French, so the woman who took my order got rather impatient and rude, but I did get a good, reasonably priced lunch out of it. I wouldn't go out of my way to go to Paul again, especially with all of the incredible bakeries Paris has to offer. read more

Only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because it's pretty small and there were too many people in there. Ordered two Cappuccinos from a Paul in the Latin Quarter yesterday, and although the barista was reusing milk from a previous order and pouring fresh milk in to the pitcher and resteaming, she made a proper cappuccino, espresso, and milk to foam wise. This morning, I went back to Paul(Denfert-Rochereau), ordered two cappuccinos, and once again, their barista poured fresh milk in to a crusty used pitcher of milk and resteamed. However, this time, I was handed two lattes(milk to the top, very little foam). I let the employee know that the ratio of milk to foam was off and that it should be half milk, half foam. When I let the employee at the register know, she said that they were cappuccinos and that that is how they make them there. I explained that I had just been at another Paul the day before and that they were made correctly. I asked if they could be remade, and the employee handed the cups back to the barista who proceeded to pour half of the drink back out and again, resteam the milk already sitting in the pitcher, and basically handed me back the same beverages, only this time the espresso was even more diluted by more milk. The disconnect here being that the point of a cappuccino is a heavier flavor of espresso as it's less diluted by milk. Clearly, there is either a training issue here, and if I was a manager at Paul, I would want to know this. For the record, I was a barista for 2 years and would have been let go super quick if I didn't have the very basics of espresso drinks down. Also, it should be mentioned that steaming pitchers really shouldn't sit and be resteamed over and over. In the states, this is a health code violation. They should be dumped and rinsed after each use. read more

This Boulangerie Paul is across the street from the entrance to the Catacombes- good to know when the line is several hours long, as it was when I tried to go. The shop is fairly small, with seating inside for only maybe 15 people and outside for 20 more. The staff works very quickly to accommodate orders so the patrons can be on their way. As with my other Paul experiences (as mentioned, this is a chain), there was a wide selection of delectable pastries and breads, and the coffee was delightful. To note: no bathroom. We came across this place quite by coincidence, but I'm certainly glad we did! We happened to be standing in a very long line, waiting to get into the Catacombs, and saw the people in front of us eating chocolate croissants. They looked so good that I left my sister in line while I went to go search for the bakery from whence they came. Turns out, it's right across the street! I bought a chocolate croissant and hurried back to the line. One bite and we both knew this was it! The pastry was so incredibly flaky that it just shatters when your teeth come into contact with it. The croissant was still slightly warm and the chocolate inside was melted every so lightly. Every bite was just heavenly. I don't think we'd ever eaten a chocolate croissant quite as good. Great place to grab a snack when the catacomb line takes 3 hours. Their quiche lorraine is very good, but make sure you get it hot. They only put it in the oven for a few seconds so it was only warm. I think if there's anything I will miss once I fly home, it will be the baked goods from Paul's. The baked goods are excellent both at their Paris and London locations. I highly recommend their abricot anglaise (or apricotinis) and framboise macarons. They are exquisite! I have never had such a wonderful mixture of tart and sweetness in the fruit of my baked goods. I may take up making my own macarons and apricotinis in hopes that I can approximate the deliciousness. These cafes also make coffee and chocolate chaud. Paul seems to be a typical French style bakery with high quality / fresh products and large variety at a reasonable price. Paul is a chain and you will see them all over Paris. There was nothing amazingly unique about Paul, but the good thing is that you consistently get a good product here. Service was friendly. This is a great place to stop when you're low on energy and need a caffeine, sugar, and carbo pick-me-up (for example on your way to work or on a weekend morning for meeting friends). I met up with friends here on a Sunday morning and it was great. They have everything you would expect - fresh baguettes and tons of cakes and pastries. Coffee selection is also good. If you're looking for something extremely unique and av ante garde, this is probably not your place. However, if you're looking for a modern, simple bakery, this is a great stop. Enjoy. read more

This is the first French bakery we've gone to. It's closest to the Catacombs of Paris which we were waiting to open. Betting there early in the morning we expected a little more breakfast items. Everything there it's to die for, it's all delicious, but there's no real targeted breakfast items. This would improve the bakery so much! Good place for some early morning pastries. Each one of them tasted lovely. Went there early in the morning at 6am. While next door at the restaurant some people had either their first beer of the day or the last beer of the night I got to enjoy Paul's tasty pastries.
