Vacationing in Paris and had to stop by this legendary place for some croissant ! We arrived early morning with a line but not too long but after tasting everything it's worth the wait! We got their plain crossiant and pain au chocolate which was buttery, flaky and so affordable compared to US The baguette sandwich which was crisp not too hard with a great chew just simply bread-licious ! A must visit in Paris !
Paris has an amazing number of bakeries and patisseries. The butter makes the croissant smell wonderful, and it is so flaky you have crumbs at every bite. The best way to enjoy is to eat right away when you buys them. Sadly I made the mistake of buying too much, and hotels room does not offer toaster oven. There is always a line in front of well known bakeries, but they move fast.
This is the best and most popular bakery in the Latin Quarter/Saint Germain area. Arrive early and pick up their award winning baguette and buttery croissants that are fresh out of the oven. The croissants are well laminated and butter-rich - it will make you cry! For only 1.40 Euros for a croisant you have to ask yourself: how many times can I stop by for pastry? Everyday? Yessiree! The best part of my day is picking up my Maison D'Isabelle baked goodies and going to the nearby Luxembourg Gardens. What a treat. Ahhh, Paris!
Maison d'Isabelle was absolutely worth the hype and the wait. The croissants were so good that I went back every day during my 3-day stay in Paris. Everything else looked delicious too, and do not be scared by the line, it moves pretty fast. The croissants alone were enough to keep me coming back.
Winning the title of "Best Butter Croissant in Paris" is no small feat, so, naturally, I had to try Maison d'Isabelle's croissant for myself. With the first prize displayed proudly out front, there was, unsurprisingly, a line of people eagerly waiting to get their hands on a fresh croissant. We joined the line, which fortunately moved quickly. Even mid-afternoon, the pastry case was still being stocked with fresh pastries, so there was plenty of selection and turnover. When it was our turn to order, we kept it simple with a butter croissant and a ham and cheese on a baguette. Some of the pastries in the display case appeared slightly over-baked, but we were handed two fresh, perfectly golden pastries when we placed our order. As soon as we secured our goods, we stepped out of the bakery and eagerly indulged in our pastries. The verdict: Maison d'Isabelle is one of the best butter croissants I have ever tasted. There were plenty of warm, buttery layers, and the outside had a subtle crispness. The ham and cheese baguette was ok - I prefer jambon et beurre sandwiches without the lettuce and cheese, but I didn't see any in the pastry case. If you're in the area, I highly recommend treating yourself to one of the best butter croissants!
If the wafting smell of buttery croissants and the huge sign above the store showing the 2018 first place croissant prize doesn't draw you in to La Maison d'Isabelle, what will? I came on a Monday around 11:30am. There were around 5 parties in front of me, but the line moves extremely fast since I was getting to go. The lady who was taking our orders speaks English and is such a sweetheart - she was greeting everyone with a smile and helping with selections! We went with the classic croissant. And let me just say - WORTH THE HYPE!! The pastry chefs here have somehow found the perfect balance of crunch and fluff. Truly so impressed with the crunchy and flaky outside leading to a soft and layered inside. The other croissants I've had in Paris were delicious but have not had the level of crunch to their exteriors. Stop by if you're in the area! Don't be deterred by the long line as it moves very fast and the staff is kind :-)
If you want delicious French bakery then you need to come here to this shop. This is in Saint Germain neighborhood. I can smell their buttery baked goodness from a block away. They only have takeout so service was fast. I love their Pain Aux Raisins and Croissants. They are golden brown and flaky on the outside as well as soft and buttery with delicate layers inside. Tasted slightly salty with sweetness. I loved the buttery smell that came with all their bakery items. Highly recommend this bakery in Paris.
Service 4/5 Depending how busy it is when you are there, the workers may tend to appear to be a little rude as you decide on what you want (happens 1 out of 3 times we went) Croissants are very good. I also had their kouign amann and loved it. We enjoyed their baguette sandwiches. My wife had their tuna because she's a pescatarian. I tried their prosciutto/sun-dried tomatoes, ham sandwich & chicken/egg baguette sandwiches. My favorite is the chicken/egg. We had come here 3 times during our trip.
The place was packed, but the line moved quickly and honestly, it's totally worth the wait. The croissant here might be the best I've ever had. Super flakey and crunchy on the outside, but soft and buttery inside, like a warm pillow that melts in your mouth. The baguette with salami and pickles was simple but perfect... super crunchy crust, soft center, and that deep, toasty flavor you only get from real French bread. I kinda didn't expect something that plain to taste that good. The staff were nice, patient, and even switched to English without me asking, which helped a lot. The place was lively and the line was fun and kind of chaotic in the best way.
Hearing this is one of the best bakeries in Paris, had to give this a try. Stayed about a block away, so this was the first snack/meal each morning. The line looks busy but the staff is very efficient in moving everyone along. Everything looks good in there and you couldn't go wrong on whatever you get.
The smell of butter from this small shop in Paris, France fills the air, enticing you with the smell and sights of an array of beautiful breads, pastries, luxurious desserts, sandwiches made on crunchy and chewy baguettes, and of course croissants! These buttery and flaky croissants were our favorite of all we tried throughout Paris during our recent stay and we came several times. There are so many things to choose from! There is is usually a line, but it is fast moving and the staff is most friendly and accommodating. It's next to a great cheese shop, a meat shop, and a wonderful outdoor market selling fruits, veggies, honey, mustatds, flowers, foods and clothes. Worth a stop if in the Lain Quartier. read more

We went on a bit of a croissant food crawl and no better way to start than here, this boulangerie won an award for best Paris croissant in 2018. There was a short queue, but it moved quickly, it was around 10 mins in and out. There isn't any seating available so it's a grab and go kind of spot, we ate the croissant beside the shop. The croissant was top quality. It was flakey and crispy on the outside, while also being fluffy and soft inside. You can taste the buttery flavor throughout the croissant, the consistency was perfect. You could also tell it was freshly toasted by how hot it was in the palm of my hands. If you love croissants, definitely check them out. They're located in quite the touristy neighborhood, so you're bound to be in the area. The croissant was also very inexpensive and makes for a filling snack (hello carbs!) that will keep you going throughout the day. read more
Busy but in a good way and absolutely welcoming hosts. We ordered a croissant and a Pana au chocolate and the order to pickup to paying the bill was fast and efficient. The bakery definitely lives up to its name and we loved every bite of our order. Definitely recommend!! read more
Really great croissant. Pretty much no line on a Wednesday morning. It is on the crispier + thicker side, at least for the batch we got. Eating it fresh is best as it is still somewhat warm and the most crispy. There was a good chew to the croissant, while still being flaky and buttery on the inside. I went and got another to bring to the airport the next day, but it wasn't as good. I'd definitely recommend eating it right when you get it. read more
Literally my favorite croissant for this trip to Paris. They won't the best croissant of Paris back in 2018 and I can see why. While it looks darker than the croissants that I usually go for, I loved theirs. It has a wonderful crisp without being overly crispy. It's buttery while quite light and airy. We would get some of these every morning along with some baguettes to go along with the butter we bought for our air bnb. As for service their line moves pretty fast and they are friendly enough. read more
On my recent trip to Paris, I tried about ~8 different bakeries over the course of a few days. La Maison d'Isabelle was my #1. Situated in the Latin Quarter, I arrived around 10 AM on a weekday. There was a line of about 10-people but it moved very quickly. I ordered two croissants priced at around 1.30 euros each (equivalent to about $1.50 in 2025.). Service was friendly! The croissants were packed in a small paper bag and I was on my way. Simply delicious. So flaky, crispy, yet oh so buttery, soft, and fluffy. Easily the best croissant on my trip and by default the best croissant I've ever had. Out of the countless bakeries in Paris, if you just go to La Maison d'Isabelle you'll be doing just fine. Wonderful patisserie with delicious croissants and baguettes. There may be a line but it goes pretty fast. It's located in an outdoor market area and is a great vibe. We got a variety of pastries and or favorites were definitely the croissant and baguette. The croissant was buttery with a nice crunch. The baguette was very crunchy with a soft interior with that same fragrant butter taste. Highly recommend visit if in Paris. read more
Buttery, crispy croissants just like many others have expressed. If you go here in the middle of the day, except long lines but if you go earlier after 9:00am you should be fine. I visited this local Paris spot twice in 1 week because my hotel was right around the corner. I tried picking up their lovely quiche's at 7:00 am & unfortunately they were not ready this early in the day. So my day train trip lacked the essential quiche meal. No regrets though :) read more
I totally understand why these guys got best croissant in 2018 and in 2025 I think they still are the BEST. I tried four other croissants on my extremely short trip and they all disappointed but this was crispy on the outside and slightly chewy while still being fluffy on the inside. Perfect croissant. read more

This bakery won the best croissant of Paris in 2018 so when I saw how close it was to Notre Dame. There was a long line on one side but there was actually a shorter line that was on the right hand side that you could go to if you're only trying to get items already made. We got a croissant and a pain au chocolat - both were incredibly buttery and tasty. The pain au chocolate wasn't too sweet but had a good amount of chocolate. We were very full after just these pastries so while I know it's frowned upon to eat on the go, having these as a snack while waiting in line to enter Notre Dame was the move. read more

tl;dr the award-winning croissant au beurre is equal parts simple and delicious; it may well be the best croissant that I have enjoyed in Paris and beyond When it comes to croissants, few Parisian bakeries can match the Latin Quarter's La Maison d'Isabelle. Head bakers Isabelle Leday and Geoffrey Pichard were awarded first prize in the 2018 Paris Croissant au Beurre division (a fierce competition judging croissants on appearance, texture, and fondant mouthfeel). Despite the bakery's coveted recognition, the black awning with white serifed text is surprisingly tame compared to Isabelle's lavish neighbors. But it's hard to miss the line of patrons trailing down the block. The ambiance is effortlessly Parisian. Within the warmly lit, open-air store, loop along the winding pastry display case, and be prepared to order quickly once a staff member greets you. You must try Isabelle's signature Croissant. The crispy, flaky shell and intensely buttery flavor were addictive, and you can expect fresh ones to be churned out all day. The Baguettes were light, chewy, and relatively flavorful, although the crust ran a tad thick. Beyond the breads, other breakfast-time savory items were worth a try. The Croque Monsieur was a sleeper hit, a fair price for crispy toast and rich Comte. The Quiche Saumon/Epinards sportedly excellently salty slices of salmon that were admittedly too few and far between; otherwise, the egg custard was light and tasty. The pastries were also delicious. The Tartlette Citron Meringue was irresistible, with a firm, ganache-like meringue and tangy filling. The almond-y Fraise cake was decorated with candied strawberries, plain custard, and a strawberry ganache. The Opera cake was equal parts light and full-bodied, between its moist coffee-soaked cake and chocolate ganache. The Choco-Praline cake reminded me of a Ferrero Rocher, between its semi-crispy wafer and hazelnut-on-chocolatey flavor. Only the Eclair Cafe was a miss; soggy, overly filled, and more maple in flavor than coffee, I found myself daydreaming about Stolher's superior version. Service is friendly and efficient -- don't expect more than a few moments to pick among the warmly lit pastry selection. A butter croissant will run you just a euro, while fancier pastries may cost upward of 5 (a relative bargain compared to the bougier of Parisian patisseries). Across my lifetime of croissants, none has surpassed Isabelle's masterclass in simplicity; it was my first bite in Paris, and I ravenously visited multiple times thereafter. read more

Hands down the best croissant I had in Paris. It was flakey, fluffy and super fresh. You could taste the butter throughout but it was not too overpowering. I understand why they got 1st prize for their croissant in 2018. However, they gave me the best pastry overall which was a Pavé au chocolat that I will forever dream about and make it a point to get every time we go back to Paris in the future. I also had their Kouign which was delicious and their pain au raisin, also delicious but maybe not my pastry preference. Highly recommend! read more

I almost missed the store because I expected to see a long line, but it was surprisingly short. Maybe it was because of the cold morning or because people didn't want to line up at 9am. Either way, I was glad I didn't have to wait in a long line. I was worried the croissant might be disappointing and overhyped; however, after finally trying it, I can confidently say it deserves all the hype. It had the perfect balance of flaky crust, fluffy inside, and buttery taste. After finishing the first one, I immediately went back for seconds. read more
La Maison D'isabelle, nestled right on the delightful Boulevard Saint-Germain in Paris, is a bakery that truly lives up to the hype--long lines and all. At first, I was a bit put off by the queue, especially since it's right next to an open market that reeked of fish. But one bite into their incredible croissants and all was justified and forgiven. Put simply, these are the best croissants I've ever had... in life... full stop! They're flakey, buttery, and just the right consistency. Seriously, you can't find anything like this in the States. It's worth every single minute you spend in line. The location is as charming as the croissants. Boulevard Saint-Germain adds a certain je ne sais quoi to the whole experience. And the folks working there? Equally lovely. What a fantastic way to kick off the morning. If you find yourself in Paris, do yourself a favor and head over to La Maison D'isabelle. Will there be a line? Most likely. Will it be next to a market that smells like fish? Possibly. But trust me, these croissants are worth it. Bon appétit! read more
Finally made it over to la maison d'isabelle! There was a long kine but it went by super quickly. They had a lot of variety of pastries, bread, and sandwiches... it was boulangerie heaven. The store is a open space, no tables for sit down service so everything is grab and go. I got two croissants, they were the perfect amount of fluffy on the inside snd crisoy on the outside. I can see why their croissant won an award :) cant wait to come back read more
THE BEST CROISSANT!!! These were so good we had to go back the next day to get more. The line may look long but it goes fast and it's so worth it. I still think about this croissant and will need to return next time I'm in Paris. The outside is crunchy, flaky, and buttery and the inside is soft. Perfection read more

We went to La Maison d'Isabelle because of its high rating on Yelp, and it was spot on. It's more of a take-out place and there was an ever-increasing line when we went mid-morning on a Sunday. It was bustling and next to an outdoor market. We got a croissant and a cinnamon roll to go. There was no good place to sit down, so we went to the restaurant next door and ordered coffees and ate our take out food at one of the outdoor tables, which the waiter was understandably not thrilled about, but he made a bit of a face and said it was okay. As I wrote in one of my other Paris restaurant reviews, I can understand why Americans annoy the heck out of the French - we pretty much do what we want and we ask for a lot of stuff and have requirements that they don't quite understand. I also got a chocolate eclair that I bit into while walking down the sidewalk to our next destination. It was so amazing, I had to stop in my tracks and finish it. read more
