Been a patient of Paul Philips for over 40 years. I now see a colleague of his for some specialized treatment about 5-6 times a year and I have nothing but praise. The staff is caring and prompt though the doctor many times runs a bit behind. I don't mind waiting because I would not want anyone else doing what my eyes need. read more

If I could leave a zero I would. This facility has no respect for your time. I was 20 minutes early for my 6:20 appointment. 7 pm and I was still sitting there with 2 patients that were there before me. I got up went to the front desk and complained, then left. The receptionist showed empathy, but I am sure it was something she had to say multiple times in her day. I never received a phone call or an apology. I am lucky if my butt even hits the chair at my Dentist or family Doctors office. And the other offices call you back after you leave 10 messages but not this practice. Miss a payment and they will call for sure. If you have nothing to do and have all the time in the world, this is the place for you. Dr. Phillips is amazing on so many levels. My first visit schedule with Dr. Phillips I had brought my parents and my son with me as my cheer squad for cataract confirmation. Dr. Phillips took his time with me and was very thorough. At the end of my lengthy visit with him, he went out into the waiting area to introduce himself to my family. My second scheduled visit with Dr. Phillips was quite lengthy. He explained in great detail the different lenses for cataract and made a recommendation. Not being able to afford any more than the zero extra dollars, Dr. Phillips went out of his way to provide assistance from outside resources. Dr. Phillips, by far, is a caring doctor. Took his time with me, and very thorough. For a doctor from the very beginning to go out of his way to introduce himself to my "cheer squad" family, to being very thorough and not rushing through my visit, and having a great bedside manner, I highly recommend Dr. Phillips. read more

This rating is only for the cataract surgery I had with Dr. Phillips. The other doctors seem fine. There was no problem with the surgery itself, but he used lenses that completely destroyed my vision. I could see better with the cataracts than I can now. I've always worn glasses for distance, but I could read without my glasses, even with the cataracts. After the surgery, I need to use a magnifying class while wearing my glasses. When I mentioned to him about the vision problems, he said "You'll get used to it". If it weren't for Dr. Lopicki, who managed to figure out glasses for me, I'd be walking around with a magnifying glass in my pocket. It's been several years since my surgery and I still curse Dr. Phillips every day. read more

Just don't go here. Incorrect eye glass prescriptions, violent reactions to conflicting eye drops which could easily been researched on Google, and as noted, wait times up to 1 1/2 hours past your appointment time. And now, waiting months for this place to honor my new doctor's request to release my records. Certainly attentive to collecting payment, that went flawlessly. read more

I read through these reviews, pretty concerning, and I regret that I hadn't read these reviews before I made a major decision. I had left eye cataract surgery in February 2025. I was scheduled for right eye cataract surgery a week later, and I decided not to go through with it. I eventually will have the right eye done, once the left eye gets straightened out. My left eye distant vision was degraded by the cataract surgery, however, I am able to read better with my left eye.. When I read, I tilt my glasses up so they only cover the right eye to match the vision of the left eye. Kind of ridiculous isn't it? I asked The Doctor if they possibly put the cataract in backwards, as most cataract surgery help distance, and my distance vision has gone down quite a bit. I had a prescription from them to correct it, however, it was too strong and went to Costco in Flemington and had Janet Delllat check my vision, and she ordered a better prescription. After all of this, I was referred to a retinal specialist Dr. Shah. Due to business travel, I was unable to make an April appointment, after I had had a IVFA to determine what was going on with my retina in my left eye. That probably should've been done way before I had the cataract surgery, and it wasn't. Now, I'm wondering if I should still be taking eye drops called Prolensa for my left eye. Stay away from Dr. Phillips, He messed up a capsulotomy, leaving me with a large floater that will not go away.

I have visited this centee about 4-5 times in the past few months. Two of the visits were a waste of my time, gas money and efforts because those two times I was turned away. the reason I was given both times is only certain doctors at the facility take my insurance. The insurance is Horizon Blue Cross (Medicaid/Medicare) NJ TOTAL CARE. Nevertheless today's visit (which is my 2nd visit due to the misinformation given to me) a person in blue gear named Patti took me into a room. she asked me questions and proceeded to do an exam for vision. when she asked me to do my left eye (the injured eye) I explained it was blurry possibly because of the injury. Pattie stood up walked to me quickly grabbed my eye lid and lifted it widely. I felt as though I was a toddler. she hadnt put anything on her hands before doing so such as an antibacterial solution or gloves or washed her hands after fumbling with the computer or the paperwork etc. that was what I would call rude and inconsiderate. she told me to go back into the waiting room and I suggested to her to wash her hands before taking the next patient. I'm pretty certain if they have cameras they would see she absolutely didn't utilize any safety precautions or protection before she grabbed my eye, which is probably infected. she needs to be RETRAINED! read more

This place is a train wreck of chaos. Everyone walking around w no one actually doing anything. It's wild. Never had an appointment start less than 90 minutes late. Today is a breaking point. We are 2 hrs 35 minutes behind. And still no idea when I am getting out. The people are rude as f. Watched a nurse in our room blow her nose and proceed to handle multiple things in room. If you value your time then this is definitely NOT the place to go... multiple visits scheduled in advance for both pre and post op care, and every time has been a ridiculously long wait time... on one occasion as long as two hours to have a visit that was less than 5 minutes. If it weren't for Dr. Lapiki I would have left this facility a long time ago. Trying to get an appointment here is ridiculous because no staff member seems to ever answer the phone when you call. Keep in mind that you'll be waiting a minimum of 45 minutes before they even call you back and at that point you'll most likely be room hopping as you share it with others. The staff members will be grouped together talking loudly about personal things while there is a waiting room full of people. It amazes me how many workers there are, yet they are so slow and seem to just be walking around aimlessly. Expect to be here a minimum of 2 hours. read more

I went there last month since I needed cataract surgery and was pretty leery due to the bad reviews posted here. But I needed someone close to home and thought I would just go check it out and feel things out for myself. Despite the comments made here, I was surprised that I had very little waiting time for both visits, everyone was kind and professional, and Doctor Joan Lee who performed the surgery was really fantastic. She explained everything thoroughly and was very professional. The surgery went extremely well and I would recommend this office to anybody. Needless to say, it's worth it to investigate things yourself before believing everything you see on Yelp or any other reviews online for that matter. read more

My appointment was for 4:30....I waited 45 minutes. Get seen by the Surgical Coordinator for Lasik. She dilates my eyes and says the Dr. will be in shortly. 45 Minutes later I walk out. No one ever checked on me or explained the delay. Eyes dilated and staring at the wall. 10 minutes after I leave....they call to apologize for the wait....today. TODAY??? It's ALL the time. NO RESPECT for peoples time. They call again the next morning to apologize yet again. I said I can't believe Paul makes you call to apologize for him. Complete waste of time. If I had a Nickle for all the times I heard "Sorry for the Wait" to all the other patients I could pay for Lasik with a different doctor. If you value your time and want to be respected go to a different practice. All the Paul Phillips offices are terrible. read more

Absolutely HORRIBLE. No respect for people's time. I waited two months to get an appointment as a new patient. I got there 15 minutes prior to fill out paperwork as they ask you too. Filled it out and waited an hour and 5 minutes only to be told that we had to have eye dilation which my daughter and I get very bad migraines from so we opt out to pay more for a scan instead. Was told no doctor will not let you, must do dilation. Told them that was ridiculous that I would sign a waiver. They said no. Other people waiting over an hour and half and complaining in the waiting room as well. We both left. I called Danielle (front desk officer manager) and was told she would talk to her other doctor and call me the next day to work something out. Never called. Wasted all this time when I could have gone to another place. Will never go here again; they don't care and so now neither do I. read more

Arrived at 3:05 for a3:10 appointment. At 3:45, I went up to the front desk to ask how much longer and was told to sit in the waiting room and they would call the techs to come get me. At 4:00, was finally brought in by ab tech for my appointment. Ridiculous waits!!! Will be looking elsewhere for eye care and optical needs. The front desk staff are rude, condescending and begrudgingly helpful when absolutely necessary for them. This attitude extends not only in person but every time I've called. Even for something as simple as making an appointment. I always provide for the benefit of the doubt but over a period of 2 years or so this is sadly the conclusion I've come to. Furthermore, some but not all on the optical division are just as rude. They're abrupt and come off as not wanting to be bothered. It's truly a disappointment. I would add that the physicians and optometrists are satisfactory. They get the job done but bedside manner is not their strong suit. Typically in an office of this size and scope I'd find one or two employees exhibiting these behaviors. My grandma has been consistently seeing their doctors due to her macular degeneration, but she gets tired very easily. They seem to forget about their patients all the time because the wait time for each interval is around like 30-45 minutes average. And they have multiple doctors check you, which means it literally takes like 2 hours. Today she got there for her appointment at around 2. She wasn't finished until it was nearly 5. Last time I went to get dead tissue from a stye leftover checked out the wait was over 2 hours. I got there at around 3 and couldn't see a doctor until 5:15! And the doctor I saw couldn't even diagnose me because she wasn't an expert in that field so they told me to reschedule with an expert that only came in once a week! I wasted too much time there both accompanying my grandma and going myself! read more

If you enjoy being part of a herd, this eye center is for you; if you enjoy sharing an examination room with an other patient, this eye center is for you; If you enjoy wasting more than an hour waiting to be seen by the eye doctor, this eye center is for you. Went for an eye exam... I told them that I just moved from out of state and to please make sure that my coverage was valid... they took my ins card and said don't worry about it... When I came out of the exam they said that I needed to pay $130 for the contact lense portion, as my ins didn't cover it... I paid... Then they billed me for $385 and said my ins did not cover the exam !!! OH !!! And ps... my eyeglass prescription is sooo Off that I need to wear readers to see my computer... I told this story to a friend of mine and she said that her prescription is wrong too !!! This place is TERRIBLE!!! I would never go back! read more

If you have a serious eye problem, and you need to see an ophthalmologist, this may be the place for you. If you need a routine eye exam and you don't have a vision plan, you will pay through the nose (hundreds of dollars) and may still end up with a prescription that is way off. The wait is long, the friendliness and professionalism of the staff is variable, and the exam by the optometrist is rather cursory. The business office stuff is rude and condescending. I got much better service at a fraction of the cost at Costco next door. read more

I have spent more time at both locations than I'd care to admit! Paul Philips was the doctor who did my cataract surgery years ago (yeah, I know, I"m a bit young to have had cataracts, but it is what it is) The man is quirky but in my opinion, brilliant. His personality made my visits interesting rather than boring, and his expertise put me at ease that no matter what, things would be okay. My evaluation, treatment and surgery were problematic due to some unusual circumstances. But Dr. Philips and his staff worked wonders. I've had subsequent visits over the past few years for simple things like refraction, and not so simple like cornea abrasions and ulcerated cornea. Right now I am under the care of another ophthalmologist on his staff and I honestly feel like I am in the best hands possible. Besides being experienced and confident, her open and friendly personality make my visits less of a chore. (It's summer now, and I could think of a million things I'd rather be doing!) The office staff is very friendly...it's so nice to talk to people that have a sense of humor instead of some 'stiffs'. Bottom line: after having been a patient here a few times, I don't feel like I could ever trust anybody else. read more

The wait time for patients is painfully long. Patient scheduling is not efficient. We arrived for a 2:30pm appointment, they called my brother did an examination and placed drops in his eyes and he was returned to the waiting room at 3:20pm. I saw Dr. Lee for shingles that affected my eye. She came in on a Sunday to see me. Diagnosed the extent of the problem, when another ophthalmologist failed to do so. She provided me with excellent treatment and care and most likely saved my vision. She took the time to answer all of my questions and personally followed up to ensure that my symptoms were improving. Additionally, I found the office staff and nurses to be friendly and helpful. read more

Horrible experience and service. My 1st contacts took 3 trials to dial in the proper prescription. Understandable, but when I went to lock in the Contacts Prescription, the Dr. Informed me that he forgot to write down what the prescription was. His excuse ? "It happens to the best of us." I had to start all over. This, coupled with the time he put the lenses in the wrong eyes, was extremely troubling. The average wait time from the initial eye check to the time the Dr. saw me was a minimum of 30 minutes, and I usually had to wait 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment to be seen. I went with the other Dr. there to try and get the proper prescription again. He was MUCH better than the first Dr. ( which was not hard) he took the time to REALLY work with me, rather than the guessing game the 1st Dr. Seemed to apply. I still was not quite there with my lenses yet and scheduled a 2nd follow up at 5:20 tonight. I was brought back for the initial eye exam 15 minutes after my scheduled appointment. After that, I was told the Dr. would be in to see me shortly. I waited 50 minutes ! Than as I heard the Dr coming to the room, the assistant whispered that I had been waiting and was supposed to have been seen prior to the patient, who he was going into see BEFORE ME ! He whispered something to the assistant and went to his other patient. I've never been so pissed in my life. I walked out of there office. I'M DONE ! I will be contacting my insurance company tomorrow as well as their billing department for a full refund, and if I do not get it, I will be contacting g the better business bureau. read more

Had an appointment at the Clinton office, but called to let them know I'd be about 5 minutes late. I was told that I had to reschedule, because the person before me was also 5 minutes late. The last time I went, I had to wait at least 45 minutes, because I arrived a few minutes early. Definitely won't be rescheduling! read more

The positives first: great nurses, kind, attentive. Doctor is ok, too. The "lukewarm": front desk staff, hit or miss. Last receptionist I dealt with was downright unfriendly. The negatives: very, very long wait to see a doctor. Prescription refills, horrendous! I called twice in one week to get a refill. Nothing. I finally called the pharmacy, who graciously offered to fax over a request. Again radio silence from the dr's office. I made the dreaded phone call to the office. The receptionist transferred me to the RX lady. She indicated that they had received the request from the pharmacy, but apparently did nothing with it. Had I not called, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have sent it back to the pharmacy. Time to change the doctor. This office should seriously consider some training or hiring different staff. read more

This was not a good experience. Half the staff I came in contact with were great and the other half were confrontational and rude. My appointment was to see an ophthalmologist but instead I saw an optometrist. It took over one hour to be seen by him. Too many patients and too few doctors. I felt like I was in a factory. Went back recently and operations at this location seemed to have improved since my last visit. The upfront staff was friendly and helpful this time. Also, the wait time had improved substantially- this may have been because I had a late evening appointment but nonetheless was much better. I received careless, incorrect, potentially damaging treatment for an eye ailment from one of their staff eye doctors. They misdiagnosed my condition, prescribed inappropriate medications, and in the wrong dosage, and never considered asking me to call or come in for a follow up. The day after treatment, with my eye pain increasing to unbearable, I rushed to the Harkness Eye Institute in NYC, where Phillips diagnosis and treatment were both rejected. Harkness prescribed meds. that are working just a few hours after I got them, and they asked me to come back this week so they can make sure I'm on the road to recovery. Phillips is a successful business that processes people in a way that makes you feel they have to hit their "numbers", and delivers poor medical services along the way. They may be okay for eyeglasses (tho you can get excellent glasses for less from other optometrists in the area, and on line). But if your eye needs a doctor's attention, go see a good Ophthalmologist, not the slipshod physicians at Phillips. read more

My major complaint is the extremely long wait. Very little time spent with the doctor, the nurse does most of the work. When calling for prescription refills, it usually takes two phone calls to get it. The whole operation at this office reminds me of an assembly line. I get the distinct impression that the staff generally doesn't care. If you can go somewhere else, please do yourself a favor, and chose someone else. read more

Good doctors, but really bad customer service. Placed a call to reorder my contacts. No answer. Left a message with what I needed. No one called me back. Did they get my message? Did they place my order? Is it on its way? I stopped by and they said oh, sorry. And then said they couldn't reorder contacts without coming in for another exam. My prescription is expired? I said, can I schedule an exam and do a short order so I don't run out and they said no. What jerks!!! Lacking customer centricity. All too common these days. I had two cataract surgeries done by Dr. Phillips in October. I am thrilled with the outcome. Dr. Phillips is the best, as is his assistant and staff! All have been courteous and caring! The world is now a brighter place!! read more
