I don't typically write reviews, but I felt this particular interaction warranted an honest review of events. I am so hoping it was just a mistake, but unfortunately, I was shortchanged $142 when selling some personal family heirlooms at Paul's Coins in Holly Hill, and when considering the evidence (the receipts are attached for your review), sadly, it appears to have been deliberate. In the interest of being 100% honest, Paul and all of his staff are extremely likable. Especially Paul, who could charm a snake! So much so, I hardly noticed that his whole demeanor changed ever so briefly when he quickly and quietly ordered his young female staff member to fill out the receipt and "Just total it and write US Coins" to separate them from the watch, before turning back to me and switching back to his charming persona for deflection. It caught my attention because he went from jovial and friendly to purposeful, calculated, and acting with intent. He dropped the mask only momentarily, providing a glimpse into his real intention. I must admit, it was slick. I honestly didn't want to sell my father's 1959 Rolex (worth $2500 retail). I didn't even think a coin shop would be interested, but when Paul saw it in the box, he recognized the type and era, stating he has one similar to that and loves it. I explained that even though I desperately need the money, I had already turned down $1500, but Paul really liked it and said he would wear it personally, which made all the difference to me, so I agreed to $1750, only because I do need the cash at the moment. Look closely at the receipt I attached. It would have taken no time to itemize the receipt properly to reflect the watch's value at $1750 and the coins portion at $792. Actual agreed values were: Morgan Dollars $592 Silver $200 Rolex $1750 Total $2542 I am saddened to say, it seems obvious this was indeed intentional on Paul's part. Look at the receipt and ask, "Why in the world would Paul instruct the girl to write the receipt like that?" I understand this is Paul's business, and I also realize it is my fault for being lulled into trusting Paul and not paying attention. Paul completely covered himself legally. I even signed the receipt, so I realize that I have no legal recourse here. In effect, Paul essentially ripped me off, "Fair and square." Lol! However, after the realization hit, I felt somewhat betrayed and, with a sad heart, must point out that Paul's actions reflect an extremely low character and a dishonest spirit, especially when considering the circumstances. Unfortunately, that kind of sneaky dishonesty isn't something that goes away easily once it has been ingrained in someone's heart and casually practiced so nonchalantly. In light of my experiences locally, I would strongly advise NOT to do business with Paul's Coins. I am hoping he wouldn't treat his regulars this way, but if you do go there, I would advise being very careful and not letting your guard down. Double-check receipts and be sure everything is ITEMIZED, no matter how much you like Paul, or how long you have been a customer. Most reasonable people will agree that the receipts and evidence attached to this review is undeniable, damning, and prove intent. After my experiences with several local shops, my honest local recommendations would be Daytona Coins for coins, and Masterpiece Jewelers for gold. I won't be holding my breath, but if by some chance it was just a mistake and Paul wants to make it right, I would be more than happy to edit the review and refrain from posting my story along with the evidence on any other review sites or social media platforms. If not, oh well, that is life, and really, no hard feelings on my end either. We all know what it is like to get ripped off. It wasn't my first time, and most likely, won't be my last. Admittedly, this one hurts more because Paul ripped me off on my father's watch, which he had since the 1950s. I'm not always thrilled to part with my "treasure" (as my 4-year-old calls it), but I can honestly say I've only walked away feeling beat up a handful of times--and that was usually on me. Whether it was not fully understanding the grading process in the beginning, overpaying through certain online apps, coming in without knowing I had a rare piece (which, let's be honest, this field is too broad to know everything), or the classic mistake of selling low and buying high--my timing with emergencies rarely lines up with a favorable spot price. I'm usually a Google reviewer and only leave reviews when a business is either truly excellent or absolutely terrible. While scrolling through Yelp, I realized I had to leave a review here too. Why? Because I see these guys at least once a month... maybe twice... alright, maybe even three times . Let me talk about Paul--his fairness, professionalism, and genuine character are why I keep coming back. I've shown up more than once ten minutes before closing (sorry, guys), and they've still stayed late to help me out. But one story stands out that sealed the deal for me. Once, I accidentally sold them an MS68 silver Bicentennial half dollar for something like $5 or $10. It was mixed in with a bunch of other half dollars that weren't worth much retail. I realized my mistake, called, and left a message--not asking for anything, just giving them a heads-up so they wouldn't unknowingly underprice it on resale. I didn't hear back (and I didn't expect to), but the next time I came in--about a month and a half later--Paul remembered. He brought it up and handed me the extra money for that coin. That moment right there is why I stopped going anywhere else. To Paul and everyone at the shop: thank you for your fairness, your time, your patience with my many (many!) questions, the appraisals, the education in numismatics, and for treating me more like a friend than just a customer. act like your best friend when you're on disability when you're with your mother but then when you come by yourself totally takes advantage of me literally charged me $490 for 10 ounces of silver when it was at $43 an Once Because I'm On Disability And have short-term memory loss so my mom had to remind me I got screwed over because ever since she took me and they let me buy a coin and make payments after that never went out one time or they kind in anyway shape or form or they give me a good deal not one time they actually overpriced me and sold me by the gram instead of the amount of money I was spending he was selling everything as his own item so I was getting taxed on top of tax on top of tax because it was like I was buying 20 different items although I was spending it all at one time trying to buy just one ounce of gold in he didn't have one ounce of gold. He just had smaller increments so instead of charging me a normal fair price I got raped And then on top of that, my buddy just told me how he bought his stolen bracelet that was worth $14,000 and he only gave his brother about $4000. I hate to say it but I guess it's this is the exact reason why I have a payee per my disability because of people like this that take advantage of me and probably took an extra $10,000 on just me purchasing gold it's so messed up just because he wanted to be greedy and charge me over price, and I have the receipts to prove it and the dates don't lie‍ Just despicable, he found out I was on disability and started totally taking advantage of me and I didn't realize until it was too late and then now I'm kicking myself in the butt because now I sold my Cartier Santos, De' Blue Large men's watch 18 karat white gold with a silver Dale Hugh featuring 049 mechanism self winding mechanism,& last time I was there since I just sold my watch. I figured my watch price was going down to value why not invest in gold as it's going up like crazy every day so I'm at the jewelry store and a gentleman and his wife are coming to the door and they just hit the alarm and opened it for me so I held the door for the couple. And the gentleman. said I called earlier and he whispers in my ear and says they only offered me $3600 for this hundred ounce of silver if you meet around the corner here's my business card. Also it's for 3800 bucks and I'm like what an incredible deal I kept thinking about myself in the butt for being so loyal Sells me over price rips me off takes advantage of me price gouges the crap out of me. I didn't realize it so my disability but he did he sold me 10 ounces of silver when I was $43 for $490. Of course he doesn't charge tax so it was $490 total but still $60 price, and the receipt to prove it ! My mom helped me understand that the reason why he gave me such a good deal. The first time is cause I was with her and then after when I was alone, he took advantage of me and sold me individual 2.55 g 5 g just little small amount, even though they equal abducted thousands of dollars I was spending he was still only giving me a little amount because I would buy some silvers certificate gets in between some other different gold coins, but you never added up all the gold together, he always sold the individual so everything I bought it was like I was buying 20 items and getting taxed on 20 items when I should've got tax on one gold price as gold adds up to ounces and that supposed to be sold, but it was in a package or any kind of plastic didn't matter if it was in a plastic bag it was individual item that I had to pay for Cost of his cost you would be selling it even though I spent $7000 at time there doesn't matter ‍ spent my settlement money from getting hit by a truck there on gold and he totally took advantage of me and then I found out from a old friend that he actually had his bracelet $14,000 bracelet stolen from his little brother who is all cracked out and now in jail but that's where this person belongs after my life savings. Was treated like a fool. I went in to check as I always do before buying at any coin shop. I have been collecting for 30 years. I always play the part of a rookie collector when shopping at a new store. The owner spent all of 15 seconds to value the items I had brought for a "Free appraisal" while 3 other employee's stood there doing nothing. Staff and owner need to take course in customer service. Don't waste your time unless you want to pay double or triple the price for coins you can easily find online. I won't go back. Probably the reason I was the only customer in the store. I rarely write a negative review but felt the need to warn anyone looking to buy or sell their items there. read more

Excellent shop! Visited this coin shop earlier this week to get my father's coin collection appraised. Not only was the customer service amazing, Paul took plenty of time to explain each coin to me and there values. I took the collection to several other shops prior for multiple opinions since I live in Port Orange and Paul's offer was significantly higher! Glad I made the 30 minute drive for his appraisal. Can't seem to understand these one star reviews, maybe they just had coins that weren't worth much.
