    Burger making line

Are the burgers better at Paul's than Hungry Jacks? I'd say so. The works burgers is so freaking huge that it's a challenge to get a proper bite. But nevertheless deliciously messy. So what goes hand in hand with a burger and dare I say makes the burger even better? a good side serving of chips. Unfortunately the chips were a bit disappointing for me. This was made up in their pineapple juice though. Fresh pineapple juice ftw! The other thing amazing about this place was they just work like clock work. One person stationed for each part of the burger. Whether it's cooking the patties, toasting the bread, frying the chips or putting the burger together they just made everything look so smooth and seamless that is was amazing to just watch while waiting in line. So the burgers were better than Hungry Jacks but are they better than Oportos which have their own spicy sauce? I'll leave that for someone else to answer.

As a "shire girl" born & bred I've grown up on the burgers from Paul's Famous. I consider myself very fortunate to have this famous burger joint right on my doorstep. People travel from all over Sydney, & honesty, no word of a lie, I have friends overseas that have heard of Paul's. Their burgers are my favourite burgers of all time. I first went to Paul's as a kid when it was the simple walk up window burger joint in Sylvania at the foot of Tom Ugly's bridge, run by the Zerefos family. I'd go with my dad to watch them flip burgers on a night when cooking was off the menu at home & Paul's was a clear run favourite for some takeaway. I'd stand up on a little box at the counter (so I could see over it & watch them on the grill) It was with great delight that I'd watch the friendly banter amongst the family who all worked together, including Helen Zerefos, the opera singer. It was always quite cool to see Helen there looking glamorous, with pictures of her successful singing career proudly displayed on the wall by her parents. The hours were short at Paul's, unlike the queue's, with short opening hours at this time it was very popular when the shop was open. Over time the shop expanded into the now location adjacent to where the small burger window once was. As time passed the business was sold, & is no longer run by the Zerefos family, but the great tasting burgers & favourites they created are still there for all to enjoy & just as great. Not only are Paul's famous for their burgers, they are well known for their Pineapple Crush. A drink made on pineapple pulp, & is sweet & delicious. Buy it by the cup for a a 2L bottle to take home with your burgers. There's also a fine selection of old school milkshakes too. I think the chips at Paul's are amongst the best to be found in the shire, coming out piping hot & crunchy, & just right, sprinkled with chicken salt & you'll find there's a fight on to get that last chip. The burgers are second to none. My go to standard order is the "Special with Cheese". A regular burger with the addition of Bacon, a friend egg, & cheese. A choice of sauce, & have to say the Paul's "special" sauce is hard to pass by, mustard, mayo & garlic based sauce. Tasty stuff! If you feel like taking your burger to the next level you could always wonder "the works" this is the special with everything plus pineapple. A great big homestyle burger with the lot. They have found a winning old school recipe here at Paul's & have been smart enough not to change it. The sesame seed bun is lightly toasted, & topped with fresh tomato, lettuce, & onions, the meat patties is oh so delicious, soft & moist & something I crave. There have been a few additions to the menu with time & the new owners (which aren't so new anymore) I've tried the chilli chicken burger which is rather awesome, with a juicy chicken fillet cooked to perfection, why would you go to oporto's when you can have this. Paul's Hamburgers have been feeding folks in the shire since 1957, & is a firm favourite amongst my family & friends. I've grown up on them, they're the vegemite of the Sutherland Shire. If you've never tried one & always meant to, I'm here to tell you they're worth the drive, worth the wait & you'll savour every last bite! (well I do) Be sure to check out their website for the opening hours as they can be a little tricky. They're very popular on a weekend, & it's nothing unusual to drive past on a sunny Sunday & see a line down the street. They're worth the wait. there's ample seating outside, or you can takeaway. They package the burgers up as they always have, wrapped in paper & hand written on the outside of what's what, & all packed up in a paper bag to go. Precious cargo that won't last long & will leave you planning your next visit to Paul's.

I drive past here all the time and have been wanting to try it. I really wanted to love it but I wasn't a huge fan. Having grown up in the country in a huge fan of 'corner store' hamburgers which is what I expected here. I didn't really like the meat patty, it tasted quite processed I don't think they make their own patties. On a positive note the burger was HUGE and was great value for the size. The egg burger will set you back $7.30 and a small chips $3.80 I won't be in a huge hurry to come back but I'm glad I cured my curiosity by giving it a go.

Remember the time when good food was a simple hamburger, hot chips and milkshake. And Paul is simply just that, old school. The queue formed outside the door especially during weekend lunch rush is enough evident that people still love the humble burger, especially when it's done well. All Paul's burgers come with tomato, lettuce, sauce and onion. If this is your first time here you have to try The Works, it comes on a soft seeded bun filled with all the above plus egg, bacon, cheese and pineapple. It's generous with its own messy deliciousness. The hot chips was served with chicken salt. Exactly how I like it, this never gets old! Have them with a refreshing Pineapple Crush or good old classic milkshake which they do in various different flavours. They might not be my favourite burger, but in this era where you can find brioche bun burger with its modern twists, sometimes all you want is the humble good old school burger and chips.

Took a trip down south and had a craving for burgers (big surprise) and finally had an excuse to eat at the famous Paul's of Sylvania. The supply chain here is quick, someone takes your order in the queue and then you wait. I got the "Works" which includes egg, bacon, cheese, and pineapple. Yeah, pineapple. The burger most reminds me of the burger at Out of the Blue in Clovelly or a Hungry Jack's Whopper, which isn't a bad thing. It's a pretty messy burger and pretty tasty, but I can't say I was feeling the pineapple that much. The chips were only OK, and it's kind of a bummer they charge for tomato sauce. Would I say it's the best burger? Far from it, but definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

Great place, burgers are very typical australian style, nothing fancy and just made really well. Reminds me of a home made style burger.

Their char grilled chicken burgers and special Dougie's sauce has everyone coming back for more, so it's easy to say while we might not be able to miss the fire-engine walls, we sure do miss those burgers every time we part a bittersweet farewell from the shop. Prices are relatively cheap ( it's no Macca's or Hungry Jacks, it's fellow competitors around Hurstville) but you can snag a decent meal for under $10 including a burger, chips and drink. But what makes Dougie's so special is its special Dougie's sauce that we just can't get enough of. On your chips, with your chicken or in your burger, it is crucial that you order that sauce with your meal next time you stop by and I'm saying 'next' because I'm certain that once you've been there, you'll be running back for more.

The prices for the ramen were relatively cheap, especially when comparing to manmaruya but when it came out and I had a taste I knew why. It didn't really taste like the ramen i'm used to. The broth tasted like a normal soup that had been boiled for 1 or 2 hours rather than the longer hours required for rich tasting broth. The next dish I tried was the curry rice. It was decent but nothing really fancy or anything. Something you could probably just whip up at home. Has anyone had really awesome curry rice at a restaurant before though? I feel like you can't really wowed from curry rice. The small plate of sushi that came with the ramen was ok as well. Not good not bad so not much to comment on here. All in all the plain looking shop front and plain inside probably does tell the truth this time as the food there was just very very average.

The interior is cozy, and the restaurant isn't suited for larger gatherings. Prices are relatively cheap considering the generous helping they serve. I ordered the pork katsudon and was able to leave on a full stomach (an understatement, really) for a mere $9. The taste was quite homely, nothing spectacular, but the katsu could have stood to be a little crispier. Other than that, I've no complaints.

I hesitated a bit and said I would call back if I still wanted the reservation but they made me wait and told me 7.30pm was fine. I'm a bit confused why restaurants do that. My only explanation is that they are trying to space out the people to make it easier on the kitchen. Thoughts anyone? Anyway I didn't really know what to expect from this place as I'd never heard of it before but it seemed to have quite good reviews online. When we arrived the restaurant was full bar our table and the kitchen looked exceptionally busy. We waited about 5mins for our table to be ready and during those 5mins there was just an influx of customers coming for their pickup orders. From that point I thought I must've made a good decision for them to be that busy. We ordered the Paesana Special Pizza and Tortellini Arrabbiata to share. I was starving which made the wait seem longer but I think it was only 30mins before the pizza came out which was acceptable given how busy the place was. It would have been nice for the pasta to have come out at the same time rather than after we'd pretty much finished the pizza. I noticed on tables that weren't sharing it was a bit awkward with some people on the table receiving their food a far while ahead of others. In terms of the food I thought both the pizza and pasta were great. To be nit picky 3 slices of pizza had no prawns on it and 2 slices had double prawn on it. Think there should've been 8 prawns instead of 7 so each slice could have a prawn on it and I know it's probably because they are busy but if they could've ensured there was a prawn on each slice I think that would've been better. A prawn-less slice of pizza is no fun! The tortellini was surprisingly quite spicy but in a good way. If you can't handle your spice though you might want to get them to tone it down a bit. Atmosphere wise I think this place suits visiting in cooler weather as it has quite a cozy feeling to it. I'm not sure but it seemed like it would've been a house at some point converted into a restaurant. Overall I had an enjoyable evening and am happy to find another place to add to my list of places to revisit in future.

First off let me say the pizza they make here is pretty much the best in the area! The pasta and…read moresalads are okay. The problem I have with this place is true of what a cab driver told me one night after work on the way home... " they make really good pizza, shame they don't know how to run a business!" If you decied to order a pizza during their peak hours on a Friday or Satururday evening after 6:30PM prepare to wait for up to 2 to 3 hours for home delivery!!! For pickup it could 60 to 90 minutes or longer!!! To me this is pretty unacceptable for place that is constanly thiving, however there must be people willing to put up with these long delays as it's always like this. Also if they are really busy the phone can be engaged for long periods of time, so they must place it off the hook when things start getting crazy in there! My advice is if you want to give it a try, is to book and eat there or order a pizza around 5pm and go pick it up yourself... should be ready in 15min! =D
