Reporting them to better business bureau. BBB, and Volvo. Facebook post: Lesson learned. I got a competitive estimate on repairing the air condituoner in my car. The first day it was an hour of diagnostic worn that I ok'd at $129 an hour rate. Then they said on day 2, it's another another 1/2 hour to an hour to do a compression test. I approve that. I get there today and the $#%€£¥# shop owner charges $330.00 and says to fix the AC it would be and additional $960.00 to $1000.00. 2010 v50 Volvo station wagon. I would say that I was ripped off. Would you agree? I said, "couldn't you subtract the diagnostic from the cost to replace it. He said "No" Not even a budge. And then he proceeded to tell me I'm crazy. The shop? Paul and Johns Motor Service on Library Road in Overbrook or Castle Shannon. Consider yourself warned. In these times, when people are struggling to pay utilities, house repairs...his actions were uncalled for. read more

I have been bringing my 2007 mini cooper here for 4-5 years. It is a local shop with knowledgeable staff. They provide helpful information to save you money. Best for older cars when you are less obsessed with perfection and more excited about saving money. If you are even a little bit snobby, go to the dealer where they charge you extra for the fancy coffee machine and wifi. When part of my exhaust system was broken, they suggested using a welder to fix the break instead having to replace the whole thing which would include part of the muffler that was still working and expensive to replace. It saved me maybe $600! When I first brought in my car after the dealer suggested I change my engine chain because it was gunked up, Paul's Motor Car Service said it could be helped with just an additive in the oil and more frequent oil changes. They were right, and that saved me maybe $1,000 by suggesting another strategy that only cost $30 or so. They don't try and sell you on things you don't need, and it seems they really like the work they do and are thankful for your business. These people are realists, and sometimes they need more time to figure out the problem, but I believe they try their best and I'd much rather support a local small business than the dealership, whose prices are exorbitant. If you are going to use the T for transportation, be careful because the short walk to the station doesn't have a sidewalk and Library Road can be busy. read more

I had major electronic damage from rain to my 2007 EOS this past month. Bob (the owner) was honest and reliable and tried everything to get the convertible roof top and windows to close. He explained the car's condition and suggested that it would not be a good idea to put any more money into it as further issues would likely appear in the car's future. I appreciated his honesty when it could've benefited him to put thousands of dollars into a car that wasn't worth it...thanks Bob! read more

I drove my Saab 93 from Philly to Pittsburgh this week....well into the drive i noticed my windshield wipers were no longer working. Thankfully it was a beautiful day and when I arrived searched service shops in the area...knowing that it was a Saab and would be challenging, i called and few and landed with Paul's. Although booked, they agreed to help me and I dropped off the car. The same day they ordered my part and was able to pick it up the next day. I had a electronic parking brake problem, that required a caliper replacement. They did the job at dealer prices ($740), but still could not get it to work. They said well, we have to start to investigating the problem (at $90/hr), because we really don't know why it is not working, maybe it is the cars computer, maybe the wiring. I took the car to the VW dealer, they said the caliper was installed OK, but they (Paul's) did not calibrate it properly. They said there is an exact VW procedure. The dealer calibrated it, and it works perfect, but it cost an extra $200, that I could have saved if I went to the dealer in the first place. read more

I had to switch garages, due to the Covid outbreak. I read positive reviews on Paul's garage, and took a chance. I think i have found a new garage to work on my vehicle. I drive an BMW 750i, and the hood cable broke. I tried to get a backyard mechanic to fix it, but made the work even messier. I emailed Paul, who was completely friendly, and had it towed to his garage. It took alittle time, but i am a patient type, and only wanted the work done correctly. Mission Accomplished. Got my car back, and i am totally happy with the work. May need to go back for some sensor work soon, and Pauls garage is where i prefer for the work to be done. Kudos.. J.C. read more

Google reviews Jackie Mathews in the last week BIG MISTAKE FOR A QUICK OIL CHANGE! I recently had an oil change on my vehicle I bought in May. I just had it detailed and noticed damage protruding from the underneath through my vehicle. The only service I've had on my vehicle since purchase.. Confirmed by multiple body shops to be consistent with incorrectly jacking up my vehicle. I call and the man was very rude and demeaning. Thankfully I have all the evidence I need to seek retribution since they refuse to rectify the situation. The man was 60 years old! They say that means he was experienced. We bought a car here, which isn't their main trade, but I think they occasionally sell older import cars. The price was good, and included a 3 month warranty. What really made it an outstanding experience was the fact that a new back seat was included, because the gentleman thought the old one (it's a 15-year-old Honda) was in bad shape. Also, I had an engine code come up for the O2 sensors. I texted just to get an opinion and he ordered a new sensor for me. I'd say that's above and beyond for a (very) used vehicle. I'll definitely be bringing it to Paul's for needed maintenance, inspection, and repairs and would absolutely recommend considering any used vehicles they happen to have for sale! Super, super friendly experience, too, even with my two kids running around being goofballs. Based on my experience they're absolutely honest and know what they're talking about. read more

They offered to take my car to a specialist so they can offer a cheaper price for the problem my car had. And they offered to see what they can do as I needed my car for the next day to get to work. Not only were they extremely pleasant to deal with, but have an EXCELLENT rating on Angie's list (as they should). They helped me figure out the easiest way for my car to pass inspection. They are very helpful and explain things in an honest, clear way. Bob made justified efforts to reduce my labor costs. (He told me he had to drive my car as part of the inspection but used it to pick up supplies so he wouldnt have to charge the labor, but see below for update) NOTE: IF YOU BRING YOUR CAR IN FOR AN INSPECTION AND YOUR ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, DO NOT BE SURPRISED IF YOUR CAR REQUIRES FREQUENT ROUNDS OF DRIVING AND MORE TIME INVESTED TO GET IT TO PASS!! I have researched and experienced this for the first time myself and it is NORMAL but can be time consuming. Ideally, bring your car in at least a month sooner (if possible) before the inspection to correct the check engine issue. This can save you and the mechanical specialists a lot of time and hassle. Also, this applies to any car shop, not just Paul's. They communicated with me via email, which was convenient for me with my work schedule.. as well as through texting and phone. They took time to answer any questions and concerns I had, and I did not feel rushed. The price was not bad considering all that I had done at once. I recommend Paul's Motor Car Service!! Previous reviews say they are honest and super laid back -- after my experience I can attest that this is highly true!! **After I made the above review, they retro-charged me $99 for labor days later, that they originally did not charge me. Bob said "well it's because we put more time into your car than what we charged" and "this is a gift". I didn't like that but had no choice but to pay. read more

I call to see if the part has arrived and make the appointment and EVERY TIME get told that they will have to check and can they call me back. If I could rate this shop zero stars I would. I took my saab here to get looked at and they seemed very nice. They called a few days later and said it was all fixed for the low low price of about $300.... well I went to pick it up got a half mile down the road and my car stall in the middle of traffic almost making me rear ended someone. I had it towed back there and they said they would check it out. Claimed they didn't have any issues with it at all... (I find that hard to believe) they said they figured out what was wrong with it and they'd call me when they had a price of a part. A day later I got a call stating that it was all fixed and my total was another $300. Didn't ask me if I wanted this part in, didn't tell me what the price would be just put it in. FUCK YOU! My car is still not right. I'll never be returning so unhappy! Word of caution DONT GO HERE all they want is your money! read more

Had an engine issue with my daughters Volvo with the Chk Engine Light, and rough running.... Volvo wanted an arm and leg to even look at it because it was just off the extended warranty. They were talking about some very invasive and EXPENSIVE work to just get to the root of the issue...... Told them to put it back together, had it towed to Paul's. They found a bad cylinder coil, replaced it, reset everything and car has been fine ever since.... Very honest diagnosis, and fair pricing...... Since then, The Volvo goes there for everything. They get backed up sometimes, and things may take a bit longer than other places, but that's AOK with me....... read more

Customer serive is lacking. Major mistakes and parts lost during repair of my car. Did not listen to Inital complaint/reason why the car was brought in, insisted that I said something different. 75%of cost of bill was in labor. Major mistakes made during that initial visit, costing , oil cap lost then blamed on everyone including my husband BUT the mechanic who did it.... This shop does not know how to take responsibility for mistakes that they made. AND the second visit would not have been needed if they did the appropriate assessment and interventions this first time. Will not be back nor ever recommend to anyone that I know. read more
