This one operates from the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway in front of the main Harborside building, making it very convenient for those who work in Harborside or live in Urby. It doesn't seem fully complete yet, but today is their first day of operation. I just wish they had later hours and operated on the weekend. Also, similar to the Paulus Hook ferry, they only run to midtown during commute hours, and I think a few boats to midtown in the afternoon would be nice. Those complaints aside, like I said, I can never truly hate on more public transportation. NY Waterway boats are nice and comfortable, generally well kept, and obviously you can't beat the views from this ferry trip. It's quite a bit pricier than the PATH, but if you're a tourist or have people from out of town visiting, it's a ride you should definitely take.

NY Waterway has very old (built in 1998) and decrepit ferries docking there only to drum up foot traffic for McCali's new waterfront project (currently an empty pointless space). The terminal often has broken ticket machines, and does not look very safe. There are men constantly repairing what appears to be a temporary and hastily constructed structure. You have to wait for the ferry in the rain, snow, or sweltering sun, when there is a perfectly good terminal building, with restrooms, and more connections five minutes away in Paulus Hook. I suspect that the only reason the rickety terminal even exists is because, according to the New York Times, NJ Transit subsidizes additional NY Waterway routes, even when they make no sense, and even when the service is very bad. Tax subsidized corporate greed and bad service.

Over the holiday season, I did come here recently with some cousins from out of town. We got the chance to go over when it was still daylight around then had to wait about ten minutes or more for the return trip to NYC at the Staten Island terminal side. This made the views even better seeing everything lit up now this time. Honestly, even I did get to enjoy my time on the ferry since it has been a few years since I did travel on there. It is a free service and not bad to check out. In December, it was definitely cold on the water but still worth it for the journey. There were chances to go back inside and use the restroom ( if necessary ), then go right back outside to take more pictures and videos on your ride. Give this one five stars from me, great atmosphere and great views in the daytime and at night in the darkness.

The Crown Tickets are limited. When I checked the day prior it was all sold out, so we got pretty lucky to have it available on the day we were in town. My friends who live in New York said they haven't even had the opportunity to check out the Crown. The Crown Reserve tickets ($32.80/adult) include ferry access to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, which are two separate stops. There is NO CANCELLATION on these tickets. And no transferring from one person to another. You have to put in the name of person for the tickets, and they check ID upon arrival and ticket pick up. You can embark this tour from the NJ or NY side. We came from the NY side, and had to pick up our tickets at Battery Park at will call. They pick up location was a bit out of the way from where the lines are. I'm REALLY ANNOYED that they pushed my time back half an hour from what I booked online. And when I went to the line they told me to COME BACK IN 30 min to GET INTO A LONG ENDLESS LINE. The whole experience was waiting... Waiting in line to get through security check point. Wait in another line to get onto the ship for the ferry. Wait wait wait... The returning trips have similar stories... Wait wait wait for the ship to come back and get you. All of their lines are thick and un managed so if people are aggressive, people behind you can easily push their way through in front of you. We approached and asked to buy a ticket and they mentioned you can't buy tickets from them. You need to buy the tickets out front. We ask where is out front and were pointed to a general direction. We ask for clarification and were told "look, look" with a finger pointed in a direction. Alright we decide just to walk down and after a bit we saw a couple of people line up at a machine that was beside a store. We may have missed it if there wasn't a lineup. We buy 2 tickets, which I have to say was a really reasonable price and head back to the line. We jump in line and notice the times for it were a bit later. We head back to info to ask if there's a schedule for the ferry or if anything would come before the departure time we saw. They told us we could line up in a second line and the ferry should be there in about 15 minutes. It's not obvious each of the lines which direction the ferry is going. We lined up and hopped on the next ferry in no time. All this to say, the ticket machine is out front by the store before the pier. If you're not sure which line you should be on, ask the staff, they're pretty good with which ferry you need to hop on and good luck!
