I reached out to one technician. They charged an unbelievably low price. I then called Leo from Kai Electric to price shop. Leo picked up and was very nice on the phone. He quoted me over the phone based on my description of the issue. But he told me if the first guy was serious, it was a good price. So I called back the first guy. Through a series of unfortunate events, it became very clear to me that Leo was right. The first guy was unserious and unprofessional. I called Leo back. He came out the NEXT MORNING to confirm the price and take pictures. He sent me a reminder text the day before. They were on time the morning of. He had previously advised that I would be without power for approximately 6 hours to replace the panel. I was out for exactly six hours. He and his workers were friendly, efficient, and professional. He even installed a GFCI outlet, which was something that we found during his work and not previously quoted. I have a Tesla and will be calling Kai Electric back out to install my EV charger. So yeah, I definitely recommend them for your power needs!

Do not use Riche's HVAC, I had to have a pipe redoped for a small gas leak per Nicor. This instance…read morewas found after my wife called about our stove and a gas smell coming from it. To be clear, I don't really know if there was an actual leak or not because we never smelled gas in our basement and we checked after we were told where the leak was and still didn't smell anything. Gas bill is low and I haven't seen anything that would red flag a gas leak in the billing going back a full year. The Nicor tech recommended this company. So I called him while the Nicor tech was still in my home, as the Nicor tech didn't want to have to shut our gas off in sub zero temps. After 2 phone conversations with Rich we had made an appointment for Monday. Rich shows up on Sunday morning at 8:23 AM, with a partner and two trucks, as I was still in bed I got up and let him in. He told me it would be quick and that the Nicor tech, Patrick, told him it was an emergency. I spoke to Rich on Friday and Saturday, but apparently that didn't warrant an emergency at that time. He and his partner were done in 27 minutes (8:23 AM when he came in my home until 8:50 AM when he wrote up the bill). He charged us $680 to turn off the gas and redope the pipe. His $135 service call was actually $270 x's 2 for him and his partner at 4 hours of time and a half. Again, 4 hours of time and a half, which doesn't make any sense since $135 x 4 =$540.00. That is not time and a half, that is double time. Add the service fee on which he has at $140, gives us the final bill at $680. Total Scam. Rich claimed he charges when he leaves his place and started charging us from 7:00 AM. His partner actually had a cup of Duncan coffee in his hand when he entered my home, this didn't bother me until I got his bill. I have video and photo evidence for everything that happened during Rich's HVAC visit to my home, including his ridiculous bill. He is in romeoville and I am in Plainfield. His shop, he said it, not me, is actually a residence and is 20 minutes from my home. We contacted Nicor and let them know about the situation and are expecting a call within the next 48 hours. I would also like to mention that the research we came up with in regards to Rich's HVAC, puts his website at an unsecured location with Chinese porn so do not click on it. Right now it is not about the money, but rather the principal of a scammer recommended to us by Nicor and their technician. As a matter of fact, I would pay money to put a halt on this guys scamming business, we are not going away. We are the type to spend $1K on a $1 righteous cause. Total crook and con guy. Do not use this company for any reason. I wish I could give negative like the experience I had.

(Granted, this is plugging after the mobile charger has been sitting in the frunk on the hottest days of the year). But I've also heard horror stories of electrical fires starting. I texted Robles about upgrading my outlet to a more industrial/EV rated outlet as a precaution. Plus, we plug and unplug the NEMA a lot which isn't recommended so maybe an upgrade would be beneficial regardless. He responded right away despite it being late at night. And we scheduled for the next morning. My wife was happy to hear since she was worried about a possible short in our current outlet after I explained the possible reasons for that warning message. Robles showed up right when he said he would. And he did the outlet swap with no issues. He found no issues with our old outlet. Very professional and friendly. I would hire him and the company again.

A week and a half into January and I've showered twice-ish (emphasis on the 'ish')…read more To be fair, that number is really only slightly less that what it would have been had our shower drain not stopped draining all-of-a-damn-sudden earlier this week, but even so, I still like to at least have the option of turning down the act of taking a shower on my own volition. So, you can imagine my distress when my right, as an American, to shower at will was taken away from me. Freaking Obama. Just kidding, it's probably Hilary's fault. So anyway, one day the shower drain was fine. 100% A-Ok, not even running slow or anything, and then one day it just wasn't draining at all and my boyfriend and I found ourselves scooping a pool of dirty water out of the tub with an empty "bucket" that was actually just an old pail that used to hold cat litter. Had it not been 6am, I might have been able to find some Lucy & Desi-style humor in it, but it was 6am and that ball of zombie-colored hair I had to dig out of the drain? Not funny either. So, after 4 days of tinkering and snaking and Drain-O-ing, we threw our hands in the air and called Fred's Plumbing Service. We were able to schedule Fred to come out the very next day and were given an ETA of something like 11:30-12:30. The timing was a little sticky for me, but my good-for-nothing brother was going to help out and stick around to wait and let Fred in... only Fred was running a bit behind and my brother lived up to his worthlessness and was nowhere to be found during the scheduled time. Luckily, my previously scheduled meeting was foibled so I was able to stay home and wait for Fred and friends... er, apprentice. Fred and his apprentice, who were running fashionably late. They arrived around 1:20, which would have sucked had my meeting not been canceled, but then I thought about when I have to drive all around the burbs to different meetings and people make me wait and then I'm late for the next thing and the next thing and it's just a big ole domino effect where I'm then late for everything because one person kept me waiting, and now I look like a jerk even though it really isn't my fault. For the first time maybe ever, I think I felt empathy. Plus, you know if a plumber is late that it's probably for good reason... or at least a reason that's far more of an emergency than I'll probably encounter in a day. I mean, I used to have a friend who was a plumber and we'd all poke fun at him and call him 'poopsmith' and all that, but deep down we really respected him because even on our toughest days at work, we never had to suck other people's sh*t out of a deep, dark hole. When Fred and his apprentice (who will remain nameless because I forgot it) arrived, they were super courteous, insisted on removing their shoes so to not dirty our floor and let me explain the problem and all the various cockamamie ways we tried to unclog it ourselves. Then Fred went through some possible scenarios for the blockage, I signed a paper, and he dug right in... only there was one problem... The problem had magically gone away. As soon as Fred started filling the tub to test the drain, the drain started draining. Wouldn't you know it? I made a joke along the lines of, 'Geez, you guys are good.' And then spent the next few minutes trying to convince them that it wasn't draining before and that I was not crazy. Fred was super nice and we decided to have him snake the drain anyway since he'd already come all the way out and brought his tools upstairs and I just wanted to be sure it didn't stop draining again right after he left, which would totally be my luck. The whole ordeal took about an hour and ran $145, which I thought was pretty fair for getting 2 plumbers to come all the way out and fish around in a drain probably clogged with a hamster-sized ball of my hair and skin flakes. I mean, how much money would it take for you to be willing to do that? For me, I'd be out as soon as it got the part where I'd need to carry heavy equipment up a flight of stairs. Exercise? No thank you. Not for me. Also nice is that you can pay by credit card right there on the spot when they're done, and you'll get both a carbon copy receipt and an emailed receipt for your records. Easy peasy. I totally recommend Fred's Plumbing (who's also rated highly on Angie's List) for any and all of your plumbing needs, if you're lucky enough to live in area that he services.
