Incompetent. Do not trust your payroll services to this company. Paychex set one of my employee's Roth incorrectly. No way for my Bookkeeper to know because each and every Retirement Plan Summary Report showed the money being allocated to his Roth account. Our Pension Administrator discovered the error as we were making the 401K deposits for 2024 year end. After multiple calls and emails to five different people informing Paychex of their error, we still don't have the corrected W2c we need. Today, we were told there will be a $50 fee for the corrections. For years Paychex was reliable and dependable. Now Paychex must be a terrible place to work because our Specialist changes with almost every payroll. They do not even deserve one star. The incomitance of this company makes me wonder how they are even in business. It takes dozens of calls and emails to get issues resolved. It has taken over five months of trying to get union dues set up and they still cannot get it done. Then today they told me there system is incapable of calculating out union dues. Union dues is the lower of two different calculations. They were even incapable of properly do one of the calculations. The sales team will promise you they can do what is needed and within the first week, we realized it was all a bunch of lies. We had an account rep that unwilling to take ownership of the fact she did not respond to questions & was out of the office more than she was in. The supervisor was unresponsive unless I contacted someone outside the team to tell him to contact me. Because we terminated the service AFTER 30 days,(July 2022), they went into our bank account after the (401K) service was cancelled, and stole $1,239.00 IN Feb 2023. AVOID PAYCHEX AT ALL COSTS. if I could give this company 0 stars I would. I have never dealt with such an unprofessional, unresponsive, deceptive, and overall horrible company in my life. We got signed up with a 401k that was not explained to us correctly. the money was NOT supposed to be in the market. it was strictly retirement for the one employee who is ALSO the owner. the money was put into the market, the fees are outrageous and now after trying to cancel this for well over a year now we are being charged $1,500 to terminate this. If we had known any of this we would have never signed up for it. in addition to this we can never get anyone on the phone to help, no response to emails that aren't benefiting their company, paperwork magically isn't received despite having email proof, transferred to 10 different people each time you call just to get "disconnected" Atleast 3 times with NO call back. the list goes on. we officially cancelled on 11/30/22 with the payroll side and we weren't even cancelled! we emailed the termination letter yet continued to get charged. they finally noticed that we weren't using their payroll and told us that we had to them fill out more paperwork. we filled it out and returned it on 1/30/22 and it magically wasn't received. email was forwarded for a third time and my reasoning for "dissatisfaction" was not interpreted by their loss sales specialist. and we got charged the first of the month because this was not cancelled in time by their specialists. don't get screwed by this company like we did. so much time, money, and effort wasted on a company that looks to screw over small business owners. read more

Not to be crude but I might as well have hollered up my own rear-end as to have tried to get assistance with my payroll issues as to contact your affiliate, Sure Payroll. It must be packed with incompetent people or people who simply have no interest in customer service and customer service is all that they have to sell! I have an important, time-sensitive, tax issue that only they can address and my time has run out. No one has assisted me with any information for solving my problem; the only information that I have received is an email message "We will get back to you within 15 days" and that time is long past! There seems to be no choice other than waging a social media campaign against them, highlighting their abysmal customer service? "Abysmal customer service" is possibly a misnomer in that it indicates that there is some level of service however I have not even found that to be true; my experience is "NO CUSTOMER SERVICE" thus far. The lack of follow-up and attention to detail here is stunning. I started working with these characters as they are the preferred insurance broker for my employer -- who is reimbursing a portion of my healthcare. However, after over 4 months of trial and error (mostly error), we still don't have this correct. I am out significant deductible costs and my medical providers (Dr., Dentist) are unhappy to see my children walk in the door because they must repeatedly process my claims with the insurance provider... Well, you get the picture. Hours on the phone and countless emails & letters -- still not right. These guys are probably negligent, if not criminal -- but they do a nice job hiding behind the complications of the industry. I have used Paychex at every employer I have had since they came to San Diego sometime in the early 80's. I even recommended them during a job interview. I have also used ADP payroll, which I did not like. The only problem, and it was major, was when we switched from regular p/r, 401(k,) and Flex Spending to their PEO Business Solutions in 2011 shortly after Paychex purchased the Florida company. That was a three month nightmare. I totally agree with the other reviewers if they were on PEO. The salespersons for the PEO didn't understand a lot of what they were selling. It sounds good but didn't work they way it was presented. After the first p/r on PEO I sent a two page, single spaced list of all the errors on the p/r. I am in California and the rep inputting the time insisted I give her hours for salaried employees. I tried to explain that if our p/r got audited by the State we could lose the exempt status for salaried employees if they were listed as being paid hourly. It fell on deaf, un-understanding ears. One of the problems in the set-up was that each individual component was completed by a different person rather than having one person set everything up from beginning to end for the customer and be the contact point throughout. Their PEO personnel were not well educated in the product they were implementing at the time. I would hope it has changed. I would NEVER recommend POE to anyone. The $75 handling fee to close a 401(k) is not unreasonable. It's unfortunate that the person only had $90 in the account, but that is not the fault of Paychex. All plan administrators have handling fees for various paperwork. Some of the statements of things that have happened to individuals appears to me that the person in charge of p/r at their employer's didn't really understand p/r, 401(k,) and Flex Spending accounts. Paperwork to make changes my seem burdensome, but it is the audit trail any company needs and should have. The charge for the flexible spending account for 2 years when there was no activity should have been caught by whoever processes p/r and approves Paychex's monthly invoices where it is clearly listed. As stated, Paychex hasn't always been perfect, but I highly recommend them. It could be that the Paychex staff in San Diego is of a higher caliber than those where people have had problems. Because I am an experienced administrator, I always demand that I have an experienced, high level rep to process my payroll. With the exception of the PEO disaster, there has never been a major problem, and the little "hiccups" in processing the regular p/r are resolved quickly. No company, even those who wrote negative reviews, is perfect or without mistakes/errors as they service their customers/clients. read more

Well, what would you do with a company that changes the direct deposit amount that is coming out of your account without asking you for approval to do so? That's exactly what Paychex did to me and it's causing me a huge headache to solve. You pay a lot of money for their services, but they don't give you good quality services back. This is absolutely the worst experience I have ever had with a Company. I am dealing with the Novato, CA office which on Yelp says is closed. They are still open, they just cut my checks today. The Paychex employees are rude, I just spoke with Jill in the Novato office who was, as always, curt and surly, I did not have my client number on me and instead of offering to look it up she gave me a one minute lecture on why I should keep it on me at all times. She was reprimanding me! I told her to look it up so that I could get back to work and she put me on hold, I waited for 10 minutes. She was not planning on coming back this was her idea of a time out for me. Paychex solicited my business and has made my life hell ever since. Every two weeks I spend over an hour on the phone with them. My rep is never available. I get yelled at, reprimanded and then disconnected. I hate calling them, it's horrible. I called Corporate and they could care less. The strange thing is that the first 3 years I did not have any issues, Jason was my representative. He was promoted and after that immediately developed an attitude. I could not believe I was speaking to the same person, he could care less after his promotion about my account or how I was being treated. I was shocked. What led me to write my complaint today was that after being treated so poorly by Jill, I called back, I spoke with Theresa who managed to get my payroll done but the whole time I could hear Jill in the background making fun of me and laughing at me. I mentioned to Theresa that I could hear her. This company is completely unprofessional!! Every time I am placed on hold I listen to their recording letting me know that they care about my business and what I think, also that I will receive a card asking me about my experience with them. So far I have not received a card from them in 4 years. So HERE IS HOW I FEEL ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE! They came to my store and solicited my business. Trust me run away from this place as far as possible. I am having my accountant do my payroll from now on, if you don't have an accountant check with your bank, most provide payroll services and then you are only dealing with one institution. Business owners stay away from this company. I have been trying to rollover my 401K for 2 months now. Paychex will shuffle you around from one rep. to another rep. and none of them has any idea what the other did. Example of Paychex's lack of follow up. Evidently I had a Flex spending account with no funds in the account they were charging me $100.00 per month for a Flex spending account with zero amount in the account. In order to cancel anything with them they have you fill out mountains of online paper work and confusing to say the least. When I brought to their attention they have been charging me $100.00 a month for flex spending account with no-funds in the account. They had no answer as to why this was not brought to my attention for over two years. I said, I should be getting a refund for this so they tell me that a $300.00 credit will be provided for $2,400.00 that was billed to me over the course of two years. Paychex will milk you for every dollar they can, they are not an experienced financial institution. When I first started with them It was a carousel of POC reps. Wish I could give it a negative 100 star review. This company has NO CLUE what they are doing. They take my basic weekly payroll service and turn it into a SHITSHOW. They send someone to my office to sell me on the "HR" program with 401K, I decided to go with it cause my employees want this. After 3 months we can cancel the "HR program" but keep the 401K, perfect. The switch us back to the regular payroll weekly basic run. So we thought..... I noticed they weren't taking enough $$$ from the account, so I called my "specialist" over 5 times saying something is WRONG and they should be taking MORE $$$.... "No Joe, everything is fine. Trust me if you owed us more money you'd know it" 3 months later I get a phone call saying I need to pay them $13,000 plus cause they made a "mistake" and weren't taking enough money!!!! No shit, I called you over 5 times about it. Long story short, I utilized the money for other expenses cause they told me EVERYTHING was paid and they "froze" my payroll services. Tried talking to the Scott Yero DOUCEBAG in "recovery" to pay the money back in payments and he told me he wanted "his money" in 1 lump sum. My payment proposal was ridicules. What and @$$hole.
