Omg!!!! I wished I would have read the reviews on this company , I will hope you read this they should be called Pay More rental , I have made several trips from San Diego to Winter haven California, typically using budget, Hertz or Thrifty. Figuring I need to save as much as I can where I can in todays times I decided to use Payless since on line my total for 3 days was supposed to be 203.00 with everything. Well with the Zone 2 charge, that I still don't understand and I remained in California with unlimited mileage This lovely addon was more then my flight and more than my initial total. 250.00 addon so now my total was 455.35. Bad enough we are all trying to save where we can save. I will continue to give this company bad reviews where ever I can and as often as I can . Why??? Because it's not about the money, it's about the deception and Bait and switch!!! Let's not get started on the customer service aspect. I am extremely disappointed with my experience with this car rental agency. The location was very convenient, located right in our hotel. We wanted to take a car downtown for a couple of hours before our flight and rented from here. The staff was nice and we got our car and the car was fine. We were told that we would need to pay the daily rate, but that when we returned the car, they could switch it to an hourly rate. The daily rate was $75/day and hourly rate was $16/hour. We were gone for less than 3 hours. When we went to return the car, the agent was unable to figure out how to adjust the system. He was new and that's okay, but he basically told me he would "owe me one" if I ever come back. I have no reason to ever use his services again and that didn't cut it for me. I called the corporate office and went through their dispute team and they basically called me a liar. They didn't care at all about the request and said that of course there is nothing that they can do. The response was smug. The experience will definitely lead me to use other car rental companies only and never this one again. Am I venting because of $25? Yes, and I know that's pretty weak. But it's the way that it was handled a lot more than the money. read more

I will never rent from this company ever again. I have rented from other companies in the past Alamo, Hertz, Enterprise and have never had as bad experience as this. When booking the car it mentioned pickup was at Pearson Airport (I have picked up other vehicles from here so knew where to go) the price was good so I booked it. After paying for it the location in the confirmation was changed to 33 Carlson Court, which is not close to the other rental companies actually on airport property, thankfully my friend was able to drive me there. This car company is located inside a hotel! Once I arrived there was a lineup and only two people working, my pickup was for 11am I got there at 10:40am, but was not shown the car until 11:40am a whole hour later! The person working there showed me the car and there were scratches everywhere on it and I knew when I bring it back this will be a problem. I asked to change the car, they said they could not. So I got them to document everything and I took photos of the vehicle as well. You have to return the car by 8:00pm if you return after that time they charge you an extra $20.00 (other car companies don't have a charge associated with late drop off). In addition, you have to leave the keys with the hotel concierge, there is not key drop off here. I received a call the following day, which I missed because I was at work, they left a message asking to call back "as soon as possible" which I did. They said it looks like I "scrubbed the car". I had no idea what that meant and they said it looked like I damaged the car and got it fixed by buffing it out. I told them that I don't have the tools to do that and that I wouldn't have time to do that seeing as how I only rented the vehicle for one day! For mother's day to take my mother somewhere, so I wouldn't waste time and wouldn't have the time to do that. He was like okay I have to check with "my guy" and will get back to you as soon as possible. Which for them was the next day. In the meantime, I was worrying so much because I have never been in this type of situation. They called me again while I was at work and left a message saying it's fine and stating my cost. They didn't even apologize for the accusation! The price ended up being much more than stated online, due to the hidden costs. Because of this experience, I will never rent from them again! Go with the big names, they are a bit more expensive but they respect your time, will not try to pin anything on you and have accurate pickup locations. read more

I will give this place a 3 stars. Its not that bad as the review said. Its complicated to get there from the airport and the staff dont take the time to explain it to you. Its way cheaper then some other rental so .... am still going there. The service is ok but again what do you expect. I expect to go there fast get a car FAST and ....... leave fast. Without a doubt the worst car rental experience I've had. And I rent cars almost weekly. First, this place is not located near the airport but it says it is when you book. I had to go to the rental car area - only to be told Payless is an off site place. With no phone that works in Canada, I borrowed a phone and called. The lady on the phone barely spoke English but explained I had to take city train (no joke) and then get off and call again. After I got off the train and called again - I was told they would pick me up in 20-30 minutes. It took me almost 2 h to get off the plane and into the car. The car was also not full with gas - and I was told to leave it with the same amount in it when I returned. Can someone pls explain to me how you fill a gas tank in a car to a level that's not full? Go to gas station, U fill some, get in car, start - check limit. Back out to fill more? I was also told they don't have toll passed and they will charge me all tolls plus 17 dollars in administration fee. Thanks. Horrible service. Bad location. I truly got what I paid for. Horrible experience. Avoid this place if you can. THEYRE NOT AT THE AIRPORT!!! Despite how they're advertised, you have to take a city train and call them to come get you. And of course, you end up walking to the airport rental area beforehand re you find out that you ha e to walk all the way back and more to get on this train. Gas tank was not full and when I dropped off the car with the same amount of gas, they gave me a hard time about it not being full. When I dropped the car off, I waited 20 minutes before I was taken back to the train station. This place is an absolute joke. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. THE DIRECTIONS TO GET TO THE SHUTTLE FROM THE AIRPORT ARE TERRIBLE. If you do end up renting a car through them follow these directions to get there When you get off your plane at the airport you'll have to follow the signs to The Link train which is located near the Sheraton hotel connected to the airport. When you get to the little train stations, get on the one that says it is going to Viscount station (it's roughly a 5 min ride) when you go downstairs, by the little pay stations, there is a phone with a button to call the Payless counter. A shuttle will pick you up and drive you to the CROWNE PLAZA HOTEL where the counter is located inside. BACK TO THE REVIEW. The main reason why they get 1 star is because it was so hard for us to get to the shuttle. And when we got to the counter YOU NEED TO HAVE A CREDIT CARD, THEY WILL NOT TAKE DEBIT CARD AT ALL WHAT SO EVER. IF YOU WILL BE PAYING WITH A DEBIT CARD AND ALREADY HAVE A TICKET PURCHASED FOR A FLIGHT OUT, YOU CAN RENT A CAR BACK AT THE AIRPORT THROUGH ALAMO/NATIONAL. So I couldn't pay for the car, we had to get a shuttle back to the airport where we rented through National instead. The whole thing took 2 hours. I would have called for an Uber if my phone had worked in Canada. Also, don't bother asking for directions from the desk at the Sheraton hotel, they're just as useless. The only redeeming parts were that the guy at the counter and the Jamaican guy driving the shuttle were super nice. read more

What a horrible experience! This rental is location is separate from other rental company. The signs are not apparent. You need to take the train and then call the shuttle at the last train spot. We waited 45 minutes for a ride when the location is 8 minutes away. Service is horrible, office is disorganized and cars are not clean. We had a flat tire the first night we had the car and believe the fire was flat from the time we got the car. When we called for assistance, we were told to call road side assistance and hung up. The rental rates were much lower than other places but it's not worth the savings. read more

Very bad service. I rented twice from this place and on the second visit, the line was about eight parties long and I had to wait over an hour to pick up the car, despite having a reservation. The official excuse was that "Staff called in sick", which is a pretty ridiculous thing. It was even worse when I was returning the car. I had forgotten to bring my paperwork, but that was usually not a problem with other rentals I've used since all the paperwork should be in the computer system. The guy who was checking the car was slow and inattentive, gave me loads of attitude, and when another guy showed up outside the hotel (where the rental place was located), for some reason he took care of the new customer first, which looked absolutely horrible from my point of view. And then he went to a hatchback that wasn't even my car, despite the fact that I was standing by the Malibu I was returning that day and had already told him four times, "That's not the car"! And then he made snide comments about how "I didn't have my paperwork". He obviously does not belong in the service sector. If you're so peeved about me forgetting the papers, then how about at least *pretending* to be polite? I would only use this place again if I had no other choice. read more

I rented from them last week and I have to say despite some of the comments on here it was an amazing experience. Luckily I booked through Expedia so the directions were there for the shuttle as I heard people complaining that the site they booked through did not have instructions for the shuttle. The staff was friendly and the car I got was clean. I'll definitely rent from these guys again. read more
