Truckee is a friendly place. The vendors have lots of local crafts and wares. There's a live music stage by the railroad station. The band cranks out the good music, usually classic rock, that sets the mood perfectly. This event is popular and crowded so be aware that the traffic snarl can be a pain in the butt. You might have to park at least six streets away. For a free, something to do in Truckee this event gets a happy thumbs up.

The wife offered to get our gloves for us, so we waited outside as instructed. While we were waiting, the husband continued to harass us--calling us names like "fuckers" and even threatening to run us over with a snow machine. This behavior was completely unacceptable, hostile, and unprofessional. A simple misunderstanding turned into a very uncomfortable and unsafe situation. No one should be spoken to or threatened this way. I would not recommend this place based on how we were treated. Wish I can leave a negative 5 review.

We arrived to two lines which were clearly marked; one for will call and the other one to purchase tickets. I would say there was over 50 people in each line. Once you received your ticket or purchased your ticket you stand around waiting for the volunteers to allow you into the event. Which makes sense to me because the event didn't start until 12pm. I over heard some folks complaining of not being let into the event after getting their tickets. This event was very organized in my opinion. Most booths (99%) offer a tasting with a food paring. The vendors at this event were very pleasant but kept their lines moving without feeling rushed. Guest of this event were also pleasant which may be a result of being inebriated!!

Our game plan was to hit the featured pairings and skip some of the places/wineries that we have been to in our travels and go to the booths of places that we have never been to before and/or sample some NEW tasty creations. Soooo off we went heading down to the two different areas, one side was the wineries with local restaurants and the other breweries and distilleries with restaurants intermingled with vendors - wahoooo LET'S DO THIS!! The Pairings were INCREDIBLE!! We chose to stick to the pairing list by asking each booth what they recommended / suggested to put together with their featured plate of scrumptious food with either wine, brew or libation and BOY we were NOT disappointed!!! We had some incredible pairings and yessss I know I said that already. Some of the portions were like small tapas and they were absolutely delectable. There was a certain point when we just thought we couldn't eat another bite or sip another drink that we would come by another tantalizing creation and just go for it. This event was everything and then some when it came to food, drinks, food, drinks and more food and drinks!! YAY! Standouts for us Crystal Basin Cellars Champagne paired with Baklava or the Heirloom Tomato & Peach Tart with Hefe from Cold Water Brewery & Grill. We skipped some booths because well geez how much can one self indulge LOL anddd there was so much to try that we had to come up with some kind of game plan that we picked what was a MUST for us and of course as we walked by just purely drew us in. We made it through 16 of the booths - yes we overindulged and enjoyed every minute of it!! We were feeling fantabulous from the days event and definitely like we had beyond our fair share of samples and then some - thank you Sample the Sierra. Great turnout, perfect music to tap your toes, happy people EVERYWHERE, cool vendors from jewelry, jams, soap, aprons to socks and of course you had the opportunity to purchase any of the bottle of wines that you tasted with proceeds going to the local Rotary Club (we took home 2 bottles of the tasty champagne from CBC). The Chef Showdown Challenge was cool with the winner being Chef Patrick from Cold Water Brewery and Grill! Congratulations to Best Experience Winners, The Lake House Restaurant & Bella Grace Vineyards! Loved having the FREE bicycle valet and the ability to pedal back to our cabin after a GREAT afternoon in Bijou Park sampling tasty food and libations, we will definitely do this again!!
