I have been wearing glasses since I was 7 years old, so that's 60+ years. (Yes, I am older, but I…read moream not a cranky old lady!) Thus, I have a lot of experience buying glasses. My husband needed glasses, so we were planning to buy him 2 pair: regular glasses and prescription sunglasses. This America's Best in Granite Run was the absolute WORST experience I've ever had buying glasses. We looked around for a while and picked out frames we liked and took them to a young woman who was sitting at a table messing around with some paperwork. (There was no one else in the store, either customer or employee.) She told us she was not the optician. I asked if we could see the optician and she responded that the optician was in a meeting in the back. I asked if she'd tell the optician we were there. We waited ten or fifteen minutes without any acknowledgement and then I said to my husband, this is insulting, let's go. So I told the young woman we were leaving, and she said "fine." As we approached the door, an older woman came out, looking angry and hostile. I asked her if she was the optician. She said yes, but she's in a meeting, what did we want? I said, we wanted two pairs of glasses, when is your meeting over? She said, I don't know. I said, well, it's pretty insulting to sit here for ten or fifteen minutes waiting. She replied, don't exaggerate, you've only been here for five minutes. I said, I am not exaggerating, and besides, who schedules a meeting in a retail establishment for the middle of the day?? (It was about 130pm.) She said, I do, I'm the general manager for all the stores in this area. My husband and I were pretty fed up, so I said, I don't see us getting glasses here, so we're leaving. She responded by waving her hand toward the door and said, OK, go. I said, whatever happened to the customer is always right? She said, it's not true, the customer is not right very often. We left and drove up Baltimore Pike to the Lenscrafters in Springfield, and the difference was like night and day. There were three employees on site, and they couldn't have been nicer. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. I can't comment on the prices because both my husband and I have complicated prescriptions and we wear our glasses all day, every day, so we don't complain too much. I figure if they come in between $500 and $800 per pair, that's OK. I had already bought new glasses at the optometrist I saw, but we ordered two pair for my husband at the Lenscrafters, for a total of about $1200. America's Best lost that sale solely due to the rudeness of their so-called manager. There are a lot of opticians in the Media/Granite Run/Springfield area. There's no reason to go to this store.

She answered all my questions and reviewed both my sun glasses and eye glasses, as I explained they were different prescriptions and I preferred the sun glasses for driving. She explained the differences and recommended progressives for dominant hand glasses to expand the progress area. I'm looking forward to them arriving!! Then I moved on to picking my glasses. I was a bit sticker shocked with all the high end brands, Burberry, Prada, Versace, etc. but in the end, I paid what I normally pay for glasses. They pre checked my insurance information so I knew what my coverage was going to be. In the end I pick a lovely pair of glasses. They should arrive mid next week. Karla was awesome!!! She was patient with me and made some great recommendations for glasses. She explained why I didn't like my current glasses, the bridge on nose is too wide (17), 15-16 work much better!! Costco agreed to remake the glasses and I tried again. I ended up going back to Dr. Bumsted's office because I thought my prescription was wrong, he checked the glasses against the script and then rechecked my eyes. All were good. He suggested that the term 'progressive trifocals' was as informative as saying 'I had fruit for lunch' (i.e. lots of different kinds) I ordered a pair from Dr. Bumsted. Yes it was 4X the price. But I put them on and I could see immediately - super close & far away - No 'get used to them time' - zero. I would add that the doc is very detailed & methodical and maybe quite introverted that may come off as unfriendly. However, he is kind and friendly, just not in a 'in your face' kind of way.

When you walk the floor and find someone and ask for help you always hear "that's not my department " and they will walk away Telling you they will find someone to help you and they never do. So keeping that in mind you have to be assertive when you shop here. If you insist that they stay here and help you because you are a customer, they usually will. But you must be assertive. This is something that I've put up with for years because it's totally worth it shopping here. But its a total reduction of 1 star. - whenever they have a sale they have plenty of each item in stock. - Their items are of good and higher quality and don't break or fall apart. - Their jewelry department offers high-quality, beautiful pieces that when not on sale , are very reasonably priced. When you happen to catch a Sale in the jewelry department, which is fairly often per year- you can really walk away with a few steals and great bargains. I'm still wearing jewelry from the year 2000 that has held up. And for Valentine's Day this year I was gifted with two rings and two pair of earrings that are just so pretty. And I know he got great bargains on these pieces. - They still have a bona fide candy department with dozens and dozens of options. Their chocolate items are beyond compare because most are made by the legendary Asher candy company company. So if you're willing to endure long checkout lines due to reduced staff I believe you will find shopping here meet your needs.
