Worked for this company in 2004 Brian is an awesome dog trainer as for Pete He means to do well When it comes to humans Takes care of his employees and pays very well But if you plan on taking your dog to him You should think twice If you are worried about shock collars, then you would be really disturbed to find Pete or one of the other workers grab the dog by the ears with a set of channel locks...still want to take your dog there? Or how about this right by his back patio in the front house there is a big tree with a low branch that is where he does the medicinal hanging pretty sick if ya ask me and if you went there to see him in action with your dog of course the flash and the dance was impressive cause your paying insane money You won't get to see him shock your dog until it defacates itself and yelps that blood curdling kill me and get it over with yelp while trying to get away but can't because the shock button has now been held down so long the dog is momentarily paralyzed....... I am writing this as someone who has seen first hand the abuse that the animals there go through it is almost like it is a joy to the guy very sick this goes for dogs there for training or boarding, actually is not even dog training it is more like a damn concentration camp... P.S. For those of you thinking maybe I am a disgruntled employee......WRONG.... I wasn't fired and actually am sure am still in good terms until this review gets back but am ok with that too. Pete treated me better than any boss ever has and with more respect as well but then again I'm not a helpless dog....... If you feel you have enough love to give an animal and after reading this you still choose to send your dog to pecan hill kennels then it isn't the dog needing obedience training the poor dog needs a new owner. For all of you who have sent your animals there since December 2014 I appologize for not posting this sooner If humans were only capable of being as loving and loyal as dogs are the world would be a much better place! read more

I had to write a review because I saw the negative review and know this is so not like Pecan Hill Kennels. Pete, Megan and the group have been doing a spectacular job training dogs for years. My Father-in-law has purchased dogs through Pete and he has trained at least 4 and probably more labs with Pete for duck hunting(for probably 20 years). All of his dogs are inside dogs as well and are wonderfully trained. They are like children to my Father-in-law and he brags (sometimes with tears in his eyes) about how well they do on hunting days. Personally, I have not used them with my dog because we don't hunt. But I have been to the facility and it is super clean and just a beautiful ranch. My husband and I did a road bike race near Sealy one weekend last year and we found 2 black lab dogs, less than a year old, that were mangy, smelly, and just looked like they had been left for dead. We put them in our car and started calling SPCA in Houston and Katy. After finding that the dogs would be put down with in 24 hours we decided to go to Pecan Hill Kennels and just see if they had any ideas. Pete immediately said he would take the dogs for us and find a home. I mean, there was no hesitation! I found out a week or so later that he cleaned up both dogs, fed them, made sure they were healthy and then found a lady on a ranch who would adopt them. I have been trying different kennels, as I travel for my job intermittently. This past July 4th weekend (2014), I tried Pecan Hill Kennels. The staff was friendly, and the grounds well well kept. But the real surprise was when I picked up my 145#, 7 y/o Great Dane, Diva, the following Monday. I thought that being away from things would mean a quiet experience for Diva, but it seems the surrounding neighbors decided to have a party, with fireworks and guns going off, on top of the lightning and thunder storm that blew threw. When they checked on the dogs, Diva had scraped her back toenails up. They took Diva and some of the other older dogs that were not handling it very well back to their house and kept them indoors. Once in the house, Diva calmed down, and apparently spent the rest of the weekend in their home, sleeping in their bed, just like she does with me :) That extra attention really meant a lot to me. Having been in animal rescue before, I know that some animals just need to be around people when things get stressful, and Diva is one of those. They knew exactly how to handle things. I just stumbled onto this page when I was looking up the info for PKY to refer a friend couldn't believe a couple of the reviews I saw on this page. We sent or Vizsla to them about a year ago for 4 months of training and couldn't be happier with the result. Our dog is obedient and loves to hunt. We have sent him back multiple times for boarding and tune ups and he loves it. To directly address the comment about mistreatment on this board - I've never seen any evidence of this. In fact, we switched to PKH when our dog came home injured from another high end hunting kennel. More than that our dog breed (Vizsla) is known for being very soft and when they are treated harshly they can shut down. The fact that he has thrived under their training makes it unlikely there was any mistreatment. If anyone ever mistreated my dog I would be quick to do something about it but I'm sure that has never happened here and I'm really disturbed that someone would make accusations otherwise. I've spent a lot of time with Pete while training Luke and he is as firm as he needs to be but he loves these dogs and the results are great. read more

Started going to Pete and Leslie about 15 years back for both training and boarding when I was referred by a friend who has taken his hunt dogs there for years, and I won't go anywhere else. They don't advertise it's purely word of mouth. Let me say I've got all good words. Clean facility, great atmosphere and knowledgeable, skilled staff. I know that I will get top of the line treatment for both my animals and myself. They go to great lengths to treat you and your animal like family. In the beginning they walk you through their processes and the proof is not only in the training but my dogs willingness to return. A place like this doesn't stay in business this long by accident. We have been taking our dogs to Pecan Hill for years. We had 5 labs trained and boarded and now our cocker spaniel is getting his obedience training. We have never had a problem with any of our dogs staying here. They took care of our pregnant female chocolate lab for two litters. Full service, they helped with the births and sold the pups when they were ready. It is a beautiful location and Pete, Leslie, Megan and all of the employees are really nice people. Our dogs come back home as better companions great hunters. We have referred many friends and business associates to Pecan Hill and no one has ever been disappointed. My kids wanted a dog, so we went and got a puppy, not realizing just how hard it was gonna be. A friend told me about Pecan Hill Kennel he's been a client for years, boarding his dogs in addition to training. The price was more than petsmart but I didn't want to have to keep retraining an animal, and I've heard some horror stories. Great bunch of folks out there, and our dog is doing great, he's amazing with the kids and best of all hasn't chewed up a thing since. I highly recommend them to anybody. Pecan Hill Kennels does obedience and field training for hunting dogs, and they do an excellent job. The purpose of a training collar (shock collar) is to keep the dog focused on the job at hand. Any hunter will tell you that a training collar is an absolute necessity out in the field. When a hunting dog is sent to retrieve whatever is being hunted and they can't find it, sometimes it is necessary to midly shock them in order to get their attention and call them back. They have trained three dogs for us. None of the dogs have ever been abused or come back sick. If you want your dog training done right, I would highly recommend them. read more

We sent our 1 year old Belgian Malinois rescue for training and we were highly impressed. The process was extremely easy and comfortable. Our dog has been very well behaved, its night and day. We were worried how he would react since he previously was a rescue, our first visit we figured he may not want to go back inside after seeing us. He galloped back on inside ready to go back. Made us very happy to see he was enjoying it. The facility is looking great they just redid the entire outside fence. I would highly recommend sending your dogs here for training or boarding. We rescued a wonderful dog from CAPS in Katy, and found that though he had a wonderful disposition,he needed a great deal of extra care and work. We stumbled upon this Kennel and they were delightful, friendly, and very helpful, even talking to my daughter when she inquired about our animal. We had our lab trained for hunting 4 years ago and she is doing fantastic. She went this summer for a little recurrent training. We also sent our junk yard dog for obedience training because she was attacking our friends and biting their clothing. She was on a shock collar for about a month following training and is fine now but she needed the extra discipline. I've been dealing with Pete and Mike for years. He's trained two of my dogs and dogs of my family and friends. The facility is professional, staff is amazing. Pete and Mike are both dog whisperers. I'm not sure about the other reviewers experience but I know if my dog has a problem or is sick they tell me and take care of it. It's a dog kennel not a doggie daycare/spa. Picked up Rusty and Buck Monday, cause I made the mistake once of trying to keep em at home when the firecrackers went off. Great to see Megan and Jose running the place, sure will miss old Pete. He was a good friend. Looks like they're fixing all the things up, new paint and stuff, place looks great. Could not be a better place to take your dogs! Both our girls were trained at Pecan Hill Kennel for obedience and we take them out there several times a year for boarding and refresher courses in the training. Duke and KC stayed there for 5 days. They had so much fun they want to go back. These people did a great job taking great care of our "babies". We will definitely use them again.
