    Sunset on
    Cameron B.

For about $30 for a green fee this course is a little overpriced for the quality you get. Although there is not too many options in the area I still can't help but give this course two stars. For one, you are definitely going to play worse than normal here. The greens are very difficult to read and very, very hard (not necessarily in difficulty but hard as in you could probably rent out the greens as mini roller skate rinks). The people at the "pro shop" are very nice and the course is not necessarily ugly. It is very pretty at sunset. The course is wide open with few trees. They have put in lots of water hazards though. It appears to be one long interconnected channel that runs through or around almost all the holes on the course. An enjoyable course that was not particularly crowded you just have to keep your expectations low.

Designed by Steve Elkington, and…read morethe first golf course I know that got repo'd by a bank and now ran by the same bankers. I have to say, Woodforest Golf course is the best course i have played in Texas. Let me elaborate on that. As a caddy, I have seen lots of types of courses, from flat boring pasture with visibility for miles, to 360 dogglegged landmines at every blind corner. This is none of that. The beauty here is the simplicity of the layout. Good Job Elk. Every hole is exactly as you see it, no tricks, hidden dangers. But to end up with a score below Houston summer temps require you to have a PGA style short game, or Ben Hogan school of course management. If you end up out of position, there is no up and down. 3 putts on the large waving greens, chunked flops out of the troll haired rough is common. I was more nervous around the green than waiting for an episode of Game of Thrones to start. Cold sweat, junkie twitch, Kevin Na yips... The word on the street is that this is the best course in Houston by a long shot. And that there are weekday deals that make this affordable to all willing to make the drive. Like Han Solos says, "it's all true."

Course is always in great shape. Greens putt true. If you…read moremiss the putt, it's your own fault! lol Only complaint is not so bad, the greens drain great. So, they are always pretty firm, even after rain. But, everything around the greens, especially the approaches are always way to wet and soft, making it fairly frustrating when you hit a great shot, even with a wedge, high and with good spin that lands on the front and rolls out. But, if it lands short it either plugs or just about plugs. See, like I said, not so bad. But, a course of this quality should be able to manage irrigation a little better.

I've also heard horror stories coming from employees saying Jared doesn't give attendance points to people he likes and Mike leaves them out to dry when they are understaffed. Things like this can't be happening when the dues we pay are so high and keep getting higher for the same quality of service as it was before. The course is beautiful but hard to play. The blue shirt guys are up your butt 24/7 trying to help whether it is intentional or forced orders nobody likes it here. Jared Owens needs to go back to school and learn a new profession

Normally our trip is after the time change and did catch the course in a seasonal sanding but the conditions of the greens even with sand made for quite a challenge. The rooms are 6 star and the food is comparable. Wine list is excellent and well stocked (no shortage off '07 Silver Oak Cab). Caddies were a new component and not experienced but most of us had played the course so was not an issue. The course has 3 five pars and 3 par 3's on front side. Great course for gamblers and fair to the shorter hitters. Clubhouse is off the charts, locker rooms are the best ever and the staff is not in a hurry or overworked. We were the only foursomes on the course the two days we were there except the A&M golf team. Possibly the best golf/dining/lodging experience ever and certainly anywhere in Texas.
