Beautiful and well-maintained preserve right off SH249 near Vintage Park area. It has many parking areas, walking trails, and wildlife to enjoy. On our walks, we typically see cranes, turtles, hares, and many species of birds, like woodpeckers, cardinals, and blue jays. There are some nature trails as well as paved ones. That feeling you get when you're searching for a free pastime in between your plans, and you stumble upon something really cool? Unmatched. This 80 acre park offers a miniature version of the great outdoors minus the camping (park hours are 7am to dusk every day). I've visited several large parks in Houston, but this one stands out with how much natural shade it provides. There's something for everyone here: fishing, volleyball, swings, campfires, canoeing, etc. I enjoyed walking the trail before having a peaceful 20 minute meditation session on the swing chair. Reflecting back, it's probably worth bringing a friend for the latter next time. Several signs warn of alligators and snakes throughout the park, and part of me felt preoccupied with the danger of an animal sneaking up on me while I closed my eyes. Apparently armadillos roam this area too? I gotta come back to the trails and see for myself next time. read more

This place is so cool! My son and husband went here for an activity (they have so many cool ones!) and my husband said it was so pretty, we decided to take family photos! The water was green but didn't seem like a gross green (I could be wrong, I'm not a water expert and I'm newish to Texas so...) and there were turtles all over. When they went, they saw armadillos! I've never seen one in my life and of course we missed it when we went. For photos, this place is awesome. Lots of forest spaces, some dock space with a nice water background, and even a wooden swing! There were even a couple of little toddler swings the babies loved playing on after since we were all exhausted and it was hot. We'll be back to explore more and I feel like there is so much more to see! read more

Charming spot with about a 2-mile paved loop around the lovely lake. Great for runners, walkers, bikers, families with strollers. We don't fish at the moment but there are ample opportunities for that here. Multiple parking areas. My one initial complaint was the lack of spaces for a toddler to run around and play but I just noticed that another reviewer posted photos of toddler swings. Apparently, we missed them! I'm assuming they are by the picnic area somewhere. read more

There's bathrooms, Picnic areas, volleyball court, fishing areas, etc. People love to bike, canoe, run, walk, rollerblade, etc. here. Plus there's plenty of areas for dining and shopping around. I love this park so much. It is such a serene place to walk, jog, or bike. You can also fish, kayak or canoe. The walking trail is approximately 1.7 miles (in a circle), so you can plan workouts accordingly. There is seating and benches strategically located in different areas and along the trail. There is plenty of parking and bathrooms on the property. There is also a free little library location so feel free to leave a book and/or take a book! read more

Found this by accident (thanks YELP). Always exploring for new parks/trails and glad I found this one. The trail is a loop around the lake that is paved and clear. You'll be able to see some cool sceneries of water, trees, and lawns. Perfect for a jog, bike ride, or taking your pet out. Also fishing and kayaking are allowed here. Plus it isn't too crowded so you can find your peace and quiet here! read more

Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve is a great 80-acre park in the NW Houston (Willowbrook) area, about ~40 minutes from central Houston. There's a ~2 mile looped trail that goes around the park. It's entirely paved for easy walking, running, or biking. There's also a few optional nature trails off the paved path. Plenty of parking, and some picnic tables are available if you would like to eat here. The environment is wooded with trees with the trail taking you around the central lake (Lake Marshall). We spent about two hours here and saw the entire park. Recommend if you live close to the area! read more

This is a very nice park with just a few issues/concerns. Number 1 when you are walking watch for snakes they are plentiful. Number 2 watch for people riding bicycles, roller blading etc because they are often times going fast and in various directions. I have had several near misses so please look before you just ease over. read more

Another park I never knew existed in north houston. I've lived in Northwest Houston for 20 years and never heard of this park. I googled parks/reserves near me. After looking through yelp and a few pictures, I knew I had to go to this park. I was pleasantly surprised. I've been twice so far, there are around 4 parking areas. After entering the park, continue driving in and you will pass two small lots on the left, one bigger lot on the right, and at the very end is another parking lot where the restrooms/volleyball court/picnic tables are. There are many multiple trails and one 1.7 mile trail around the whole lake area. Overall this a great free park! It is never packed, always able to find parking. I would highly recommend it for someone who wants to bike or walk in a nature area in Houston. Covid wise, there are signs of keep 6 feet a part. I did not see any mask mandatory sign however half of the individuals I see did not have a mask and the other half did. There are many people jogging on the trail as well. Just a heads up. What a nice park! On last Sunday, I left impressed with this fairly new park and can see why it's so popular. Parking spaces are plentiful but can be scarce especially on the weekends. The park consists primarily of Marshall Lake and the immediate area surrounding it. There is a 1.7 mile paved track that surrounds the lake allowing for an enjoyable walk or run or short bike ride. The lake is not circular but with an irregular shaped shore line. This gives the visual of a body of water with several inlets that appears to be more like a slow moving river than a standing body of water. Kayaking and canoeing are popular here along with fishing from the shore and various piers. There is a dirt path to the water to allow launching kayaks and canoes near the restroom building. The paved track also includes an Eagle Scout Nature Trail optional dirt path that parallels the paved track and follows the shoreline very closely. The nature trail begins at about the 1/2 mile mark on the paved track and continues for about 300 yards and then rejoins the paved track. There are two peninsulas in the lake. One offers a dirt path to walk around it that is heavily wooded. The other peninsula is where camping is offered to approved youth groups. This area also offers indoor showers along with restrooms, a small covered picnic pavilion with charcoal grills, swings, volleyball court, outdoor fire pit and 2 outdoor classrooms. Perfect for a weekend Boy Scout Troop camp. The only negatives here are that it's close to Hwy 249 so you can hear road noise and that it's not really that big which means it can get crowded. This park is well laid out and picturesque and a delight to visit. I look forward to returning. read more

A nice and quaint trail to enjoy a relaxing walk or jog. They also allow bike riders, as well as camping. The trail is about 2-3 miles. Not very big, but suitable for those that enjoy the simple things in life. I love the lake view, and people fishing for bass and other aquatic creatures. I also noticed an "Beware of Alligator" sign, which is exciting, lol! They warn people of staying a specific number of feet, however I have yet ran into one. But I'm excited when the day comes! I love the woodsy area, and how they created benches from tree trunks. There's also a cute little library box! You take a book and give a book! That is too cute and such a great way to recycle old readings! Park hours do vary by season, so make sure to check the signs. read more

I'm pretty happy I found this place! Great alternative for Meyer park if you want a visit a park or preserve that is less packed. I really like Meyer park but sometimes it can get very packed so try this one out if you have trouble finding parking at Meyer park. I really enjoyed the paved trails. The water is nice. I saw a sign that says watch out for alligators so be careful lol. Great for walking and biking. I wouldn't run as this type of pavement will destroy your knees. I would day this is a hidden gem. I've always seen it and finally decided to stop. Glad I did! Also it's every clean. I am a fan. If you are in the area stop by and check it out. You will not be disappointed. Very peaceful and relaxing. I will probably stop by today. Great for dogs too! read more

Visit here for my son's annual camping trip with the Webelos; from Friday to Sunday. The beautiful lake view drive-up to the actual camping site gives a private park feel. The security and policy for overnight stays was strict and organized. Security confirmed parked vehicles from overnight camping, by providing a dashboard tag. Gates were secured and locked by 8pm. A beautiful lake for canoeing and fishing, a nearly 3 mile hiking trail outline the lake. ***Friendly detail*** -1 The area for overnight camping tends to hold water during rainy nights. Friday, 10/19/18 was a rainy night. I wouldn't set up camp past the inline curve trees, (located directly in front of the showers), during rainy nights. It's a bit of a slope, and water tends to stands. Some of our families tents got rained out, with 2-3 inches of rain in their tents. Other families relocated their tents to higher and drier lands. Check the forecast, and beware of where you setup camp. Beautiful camp fire setup, great size to sit inside the pit on the bricks, as well as seating away from the flames, if you're not as daring. Outdoor kitchen, offering two barbecue pits. Trash bins throughout the landscaping of the park, this was extremely accommodating. Sand volleyball setup. Restrooms are separate from the showers. Same building, just located on opposite sides. Bathrooms, has one temp setting for water. The showers has really hot water! That's amazing! This park accepts: runners, skating, biking, hiking, camping, pets, fishing, canoeing, outdoor cooking, stationed campfire (that's provided by the park); and showering. I will definitely be going back to this park and bringing my fur love with us as well. read more

One of my favorite spots to walk/jog/hang out at! If you choose to follow the trail, the entire loop is 1.7 miles. There is plenty of shade throughout the course of the trail and so much beauty. You will also come across plenty of people there for fishing, kayaking, etc. I have yet to bring a kayak out there, but it is on my list! Even if you don't come here to do the whole 1.7 mile loop, it's nice also just coming here to hang out on of their docks, or just have a picnic in the grass, overlooking the water. I highly recommend this park! There is plenty of parking everywhere. There are dog bags throughout the trail as well. read more

Beautiful and great walking trail. On my journey of trying different parks in my area, I was impressed by this hidden gem and how clean the park employees keep this park. You can fish, run, walk, play volleyball or simply have a picnic with your family at this large park with plenty of space. It can be a little confusing when you initially drive to it but once you keep driving to the back you will find some more spots. This park had plenty of shade which is perfect on a hot summer day to just breathe in the fresh air. read more

This is a BIG pond good for fishing to. I never really caught any thing until now. I came with some home made bait that i have made for the first time and caught my biggest fish,a catfish The recipe is -hot dog wieners (cut them up into chucks but not the whole pack) -red pepper flakes -jello mix (i puffer cherry) -garlic powder You put you're wieners in a bag put the jello mix then the garlic powder and red pepper flakes and shake it all up then put it in the fridge raider for 30 minutes and when you need it just take it out P.S. This is one amazing park. It is always clean everybody is so courteous. The main thing the bathrooms are always clean and fully stocked with toilet paper. I love walking around running meeting new people. Just get there a little early on Saturdays and Sundays because if you don't it's gonna be really hard to find a parking. read more

We are visiting from Dallas and wanted somewhere easy to find that had a nice trail we could walk. This park was perfect! Kickerillo-Mischer has plenty of parking, beautiful view, and right off of the highway. We were able to get a two mile walk in and saw plenty of joggers and cyclist enjoying the trails. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting or living in Houston who would like a nice flat walking or jogging trail. read more

My new favorite place to go for a run. Very clean and not as crowded like Meyer Park. Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve closes at 8pm. It's pet friendly and you can catch and release fishes. Love everything about this place and definitely will be back. read more

I'm so glad that I found this place. My dad and cousin were dying to go on a fishing day together. Of course my handy dandy Yelp app led me here. What I love about this park is that there are so many areas that you can choose from to fish. There is limited space on the piers even though there are several you have to make sure you come in early so you can grab a spot. Unfortunately we didn't make it as early and didn't have a chance to find a pier to fish off of. We didn't have much luck because we came after it rained a few days leaving the water very murky and dirty. Nonetheless it was a beautiful park and a great experience with my family. I would love to come back here and go for a run in the summer. Seems to have a great running trail and would definitely throw out a few lines again here! read more

First time visit! We went to their monthly canoeing activities, which happen to be free. We had to wait out a little because of lightning, but once that cleared, we are rowing away. The park is large, easily accessible, and with plenty of parking. They have different activities around, including fishing. We walked the trails for a little, but didn't explore the entire park. It seems to be very active but not packed. Excellent area for a walk, run, walk the dogs, and we even saw people roller skating. There is even a Little Free Library! Definitively deserving of more visits. read more

Awesome place for a nature hike, kayaking and fishing. We brought the pup for a walk it it was beautiful. Not too hot outside either. There is a lake with an island in the middle of the area. Tons to do here for the avid walker/exerciser. You can fish (restrictions apply), kayak and hike. There are benches all around the walk path to take in the view. There are also turtle bobbing about the lake. I would definitely recommend this little slice of paradise right off of 249. Who knew huh? Thank you for taking me here berry. This park is a great escape. Next to vintage Park, I used to wander this area when it was nothing but woods and bayou way back when. Now it's a beautiful place to kayak, fish, walk, jog, bbq and do pretty much whatever else you'd like to do. The walking path is 1.7 miles. This goes around the larger lake and various ponds and alongside a huge bayou. If you're feeling adventurous, there are off path areas you can explore and hike around. They host various community events as well. If you're looking for a chill walk, some exercise, or just peace and tranquility, this is your place. read more

Love coming here and running they have things dedicated on the weekend to the kids which is really really nice and always free. There's tons of stuff to do at the park and to find out about online be sure to check out what weekend they're having events so you don't miss out. Huge track around a lake lots of birds seeing lots of wildlife tons of fun if you're into the outdoors there is no playground for the children though the only drawback to this park that I don't really understand. read more

I love going to this park. There's plenty to do: fishing, camping, canoeing, trail for walking/running/biking, bird watching and dog friendly. Park is kept up, plenty of trash bins, restrooms are clean and plenty of parking spaces. People are friendly and generally clean after themselves and their pets. There's a few that don't clean after their pets. If you don't want to pick them up, don't get a pet! Be considerate of others, don't hog the trail. There is an unwritten rule: stay on the right side unless passing by. read more

This is a nice park with a 1.7 mile paved walking trail that goes around the lake. They usually have a lot of activities-check their website to sign up. I would not venture into the woods too much, I have seen a few snakes here and there. There is a warning for alligators however I have not seen one myself. The park is well kept, grass is cut, trees are trimmed, improvements are always made. For example I see a raised garden that was recently built. read more
