My husband called 911 and although I was in agony I was aware how great the ambulance people were: Amazing, and once we go to Stony Brook U Hospital everyone was terrific. I asked people their names but sorry to say I can't remember them. I will say PA Kathryn Walton was amazing. She did an awesome job stitching up my laceration, and she was so kind, professional and comforting. Dr. Brian McMahon was THE NICEST doctor! He took such great care of me. He was so considerate and I knew I was in great hands. I can't say enough wonderful things about these two physicians. Additionally, Everyone I came into contact with was amazing........nurses, aids, transport people, Xray and Cat Scan techs. I had a very long recovery, and thought about how fortunate I was to get the exceptional care that I did from all these people. God bless them, and Thank you to all of them. This was an experience I will long remember, especially because of the care I received.

Or as a patient, if you live in the beautiful Three Village area and need to come here, I hope you have a simple illness, like an uncomplicated pneumonia. Otherwise, it would be in your best interest to receive care elsewhere where the physicians are more curious and strive for better quality care from the top down. It's an experience that took me five years to talk about because of how traumatic it was. The treatment I received by the ER staff could be compared to a horror movie. I would rather die than be treated by St. Charles again...that's the level of bad I'm talking about. I can't believe such sadistic people work in Healthcare. That's a thought that keeps me up at night. I would never say that every doctor and nurse at St. Charles is bad. I'm sure a lot of caring people work there but not the people who treated me. I know a lot of people in Healthcare and I respect them and admire the work they do but that was not my experience at St. Charles. I don't know who is responsible for hiring but they need to re think their choices! Hands down the worst experience of my 57 years on this earth. Go to St. Charles ER at your own risk. On the day of everyone was equally kind and professional. The admitting front desks were quick and easy to check in with. Every nurse at every step was so kind and reassuring. They were very careful and followed all procedures to ensure I was the right patient receiving the proper procedure. Even the transport staff (I think one was Jose) were so kind and did a great job keeping me calm by kindly making small talk. Nurse E. Wolff was wonderful and advocated for my wishes for me so that I could relax for the procedure. She checked in with me about directives id verbalized earlier to ensure I was receiving the kind of care I had asked for. The radiologist/tech Andrew S who operated the Fluoroscope was also excellent and kind. He made sure to add as many warmed blankets as I needed to stay comfortable in the cold room before the procedure and was obviously beyond competent and skilled at providing the imagining. Dr Benjamin Raj and Dr Giovanni Santoro had wonderful bedside manner. They were both extremely professional and informative while keeping me reassured and calm. Both were so kind and did an excellent job. The recovery room nurses were also very kind and helpful and great at their job. Overall the staff exceeded my expectations. If you need a procedure at this hospital I hope some anxiety is alleviated knowing that the staff there is kind and helpful from a human to human perspective but above all competent and skilled at their professional roles.

Day of the…read morewedding (Saturday before Memorial Day), I woke up with excruciating knee pain and couldn't stand. I thought to myself, "Well, I somehow managed to screw up the bride and groom's day of days." I came to this hospital's ER around 9am. They took me in immediately, had me in a bed with nurses checking me in within 10 min of arrival. Then they had a PA check me within 20 min of arrival. X-Rays and ultrasound occurred within 45 min of arrival. A little over an hour after arrival, the doctor and PA came and evaluated the test results with me and checked my knee again. Even though the test results were elusive, they took care of everything, gave me instructions on what to do, and gave me something to handle inflammation. I was out by 10:45am. I thought I was in disbelief when I randomly woke up with excruciating pain on this day... really though, the true disbelief came from getting everything handled so fast. I made it on time for all wedding activities despite everything. I was able to stand up, walk around, make my speech, and even dance (a little bit) during the wedding. The staff was professional, down to earth, kind and caring, and efficient. I might have come in at a good time, but is there really any good time to visit a hospital on the far edge of Long Island over a holiday weekend? No, I think not. THANK YOU for saving the day! The hospital staff defied Murphys Law and we (the wedding party, bride and groom, everyone) are thankful.

I guess it is my fault. However…read more.. I was scheduled for a sonogram. Eastern LI Stony Brook before it was Stony Brook managed was an awful hospital. Awful! If you needed care you didn't go there. You traveled to the south fork or even up mid island. When Stony Brook took over things changed for the best. Word on the street was that Eastern LI was now a good place. So with that in mind I made an appointment with their radiology department. It was easy to make but as the day approached I began to have some doubts. There were none of the email or text reminders that most care facilities use. My dentist sends me so many reminders that it is actually more a nuisance than anything. So when I drove up to the hospital I wasn't too comfortable. Anyway I was proven wrong. It is an old refurbished building obviously too small for the amount of care it offered. But the place was clean, the staff friendly and efficient. Even though I was a bit early the technician took me in immediately. She was extremely friendly and professional. The room was a bit funky but all in all it was a good experience. I asked her when the results would be available. She said in 24-36 hours they would fax the results to my primary physician. Within 30 minutes I was back home sipping my morning coffee. Well... two weeks later I hadn't heard anything from my primary physician. He's very old school and tends not to contact me when the news is good. No need to know that things are good! No news is good news! Well being a somewhat neurotic person, I decided to call him and what do you know...he never received the test results. The hospital never sent the test results. So I got on the phone and called the hospital. I waited on the phone as they proceeded to fax the results. Then I called my doctor's office to see if they received the results. They did. Mission accomplished. All in all I hope never to need hospital care and if I do most likely I will try not to go to Eastern Long Island Stony Brook.
