I wish I could give more than five stars to Burke Outpatient Physical Therapy, and particularly to…read moremy physical therapist, Hugo. If the scale were 1 to 10, I'd give him a 50. I came to Burke after having two complete knee replacements just three days apart. I knew the rehabilitation was going to be a challenge, and from my very first session I felt as though I had not just a physical therapist, but my own personal coach who was completely invested in getting me back to my life. Hugo is intense--in the very best possible way. "Come on, you can do more!" was something I heard often. He pushed me when I needed to be pushed, encouraged me when I needed encouragement, and somehow always seemed to know the difference between the two. At the same time, he was extraordinarily observant. On the occasions when I pushed too hard and irritated my knee, he could see it immediately. He listened, adjusted the exercises, and never pushed through something that didn't feel right. Most days I actually walked out of PT better than I walked in. What impressed me perhaps more than anything was how closely Hugo paid attention to me as an individual. If my appointment was at 9:00, at 9:00 the door would open and there he was with a big smile. He would let me walk ahead of him toward the treatment area while he watched my gait. By the time I reached his table, I sometimes felt that he already knew how my knees were doing before he even asked me. At the end of the session, he would watch me walk again to see what had changed. I've experienced physical therapy elsewhere where a therapist was working with several patients at once, moving back and forth between them. My experience with Hugo was completely different. I had his attention. He watched, corrected, encouraged and challenged me throughout the session. I truly felt like an athlete working one-on-one with a coach. One moment probably says more about Hugo than anything else. Earlier in my recovery he had told me I wasn't quite ready to ride a bicycle yet. Eventually he thought I was getting close and suggested raising the seat and giving it a try. At my next appointment, I excitedly told him the story of getting back on my bike and how much it meant to me. Hugo held out his arms and said, "Look--you gave me goosebumps." That told me everything. This wasn't just another patient completing another exercise program to him. He genuinely shared in my happiness and my progress. I also want to mention Eric, who treated me for one session when Hugo wasn't available. Eric was wonderful as well--kind, knowledgeable and encouraging--and my experience with him reinforced the quality of the entire Burke outpatient team. Today I'm walking miles, riding my bike, using the elliptical, swimming, and continuing to improve. There is still work to do, particularly with stairs, but when I think about where I started and where I am now, I'm incredibly grateful. Hugo, thank you for pushing me, listening to me, celebrating with me and caring about my recovery as much as you did. You didn't just help rehabilitate two new knees--you helped me get back to doing the things I love. Five stars simply aren't enough.

Always professional, punctual, efficient and fun, there was nothing but laughter and results coming from their sessions. Jennifer's initial evaluation was thorough and informative. Our pediatrician said it was the most well-written evaluation they had ever seen. And, the NYC DOE even accepted it in lieu of administering their own. Never once did we feel like we were on the clock, or that she was running out the door. Jennifer took the time to answer our questions, provide progress updates, gave recommendations and tips, usually well beyond the close of the session.

She provided me with the high priced Oticon hearing aids(I did want the best ones for me) with little backup info and NO instruction Manual. She left the room early (as she did on the second appt. also) and I was told by Samantha the intern or assistant there was no instruction Manual?? I called next day and asked Samantha if I could speak with Nancy DATINO ...I was coldly directed to call her DR. DATINO....she was not avaiable. I told Samantha said I must have a hard copy instruction manual. Samantha balked at this and said they only give instruction manual when the hearing aids are purchased??? Crazy! She finally not happily consented to send me instructions. I asked that a copy of my hearing test I was not given be sent also. These were sent and received. The instruction manual was indispensable; it had crucial, very important and indispensable info for these very advanced hearing aids. AND this office INITIALLY DID NOT GIVE ME AND WERE NOT GOING TO GIVE ME AN INSTRUCTION MANUAL UNTIL I PURCHASED THESE EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE HEARING AIDS?? WILD! The instruction manual said I should have a hearing test with the hearing aids on...which I had asked for and Dr. DATINO said this test with hearing aids on was not done,. The next appt. I had lots of questions that were basically answered and I needed hearing aids to be reprogrammed a bit as I was not hearing well with them. They were reprogrammed. Nancy DATINO left the room. Samantha gave me an unidentified bamboo toothbrush and told me to brush the domes of hearing aid very well every nite...Brush them HARD Samantha said. Well instructions in manual said do NOT touch the domes...only a specialist does this I confirmed next appt. days before only to be asked again on line an hour or so before my appt. to confirm again I would be there. I confirmed and drove an hour to the appt. to find out Dr. DATINO has been ill all week and would not be there but would join us on zoom call. I DEFINITELY should have been called before this appt. and told the audiologist I WAS PAYING TO SEE would NOT be there!! THIS IS A NO BRAINER! And I had been asked if I was coming in an hour before my appt. with the office fully aware Dr. DATINO would NOT be there!! I drove an hour to the appt' to find her not present! I arrived at appt. fully expecting Dr. DATINO the audiologist to be present...I had an LOT of questions for her!! WELL I sat there for about 40 minutes with Samantha. Samantha trying to connect on zoom with DATINO and made several phone calls to her also all to NO avail. From our first contact with her office I said I had been made aware that time with an Excellent audiologist was of utmost importance!! I was with her assistant/intern Samantha more than with audiologist DATINO. And Nancy DATINO never showed for this last appt. I had a LOT of questions for her the audiologist! I told Samantha to please have Dr. DATINO to definitely call me so I could ask her my questions. I then returned the Oticon hearing aids I was trying out because I certainly did NOT want to continue care with the irresponsible attention, information and lack of time provided by Dr. DATINO. I told Samantha I still most certainly wanted Dr. DATINO to call me ;I had questions. No surprise she never called. I would tell anyone to AVOID this practice. I ache for those that are unknowingly taken advantage of! And the $ a patient can pay...oh dear me! Terrible!
