When I was in my late forties, I was sent to the audiologist by my children and wife who were concerned that either I wasn't listening to them or hopefully, I needed a hearing aid! Fortunately, i needed hearing aids! Perhaps it was all those rock concerts or blasting my stereo but over the years as hearing aids have become more sophisticated, my hearing and relationships with my wife and now, grown children has improved! I also really urge my friends to not look for bargains when it comes to investing in hearing aids. There is a huge difference in quality and care that you won't get at the Big Box Warehouse Stores!.

I have been using hearing aids for over thirty years and have worked with many Audiologists, but Dr. Lanzetta's competence sets the standard. Aside from his competence, he truly cares about his patients. He is understanding, accommodating, compassionate, fair and trustworthy to name a few of his qualities. He will do whatever it takes, no matter how long it takes, to find the right solutions for his patients. For example, there is no single hearing aid that works well for everyone; therefore, Dr. Lanzetta maximizes recovery of hearing loss by matching the best hearing aid technology available to the peculiarities of a given patient's hearing loss. Dr. Lanzetta has been my Audiologist for over eight years. My hearing loss is relatively severe, and I pretty much gave up trying to understand speech on television; however, Dr. Lanzetta suggested a device that streams TV audio directly to my hearing aids. Incredible! That was a life-changing event. Now I can understand TV speech perfectly well. Dr. Lanzetta's knowledge is truly awesome. It seems like he knows everything there is to know about audiology. He answers even the seemingly most difficult questions by providing explanations that are reduced to the simplest possible terms, sometimes combined with appropriate analogies that truly illuminate his explanations. Someone of Dr. Lanzetta's caliber, in any profession, is hard to find. Simply put, he's a really nice guy and a top-notch Audiologist! Go to Hear NY Audiology P.C and see (or should I say, "hear"?) for yourself.

Since then, over the past year, I have had to deal more with the front desk to get appointments, or support. They are rude and unprofessional to deal with and make it impossible to get the care and follow up needed. For example, last year, I purchased pricey new hearing aids from them with a warranty which included servicing and support for the first year. Shortly after purchase, one of my hearing aids became very uncomfortable to wear and my ear felt irritated. I called the front desk several times and explained that I needed to speak with or see an audiologist. The front desk refused to help me. I was told that their audiologists were not available and even if they were, that they could not help me or even speak with me. The front desk representative told me that they do not have Ear doctors associated with this audiology group which was why they could not help me. I finally went to urgent care, and it turned out that a small piece of the tip of the hearing aid had become lodged in my ear canal. The nurse was able to easily assist me, but my ear drum was very irritated due to the conduct of this audiology group. Since then, the front desk representatives have continued to be extremely difficult to deal with. Even getting an appointment with an audiologist over the summer when one of my hearing aids was accidentally damaged was difficult. I have now switched to another audiology group.

I have worked with Bonnie off and on for what seems like two decades now. I have come across a slew…read moreof audiologists, mostly in connection with ENT doctors I've visited over the years. Bonnie is head and shoulders better than any other audiologist I've spent time with. For one, her hearing exams are easily 3 times as long and far more thorough than other audiologist exams I've had. She always takes the time to be thorough and complete, answering ever question I throw her way, and she works a problem until it's solved to the best of her ability. For a time, I had left Bonnie to go the cheaper, Costco hearing aid route. But when my hearing degraded further and I needed specialized assistance, I returned to Bonnie without blinking an eye. And the result has been top notch as I expected. Obviously, using Bonnie over Costco is a far more expensive proposition, but, in my case, I had to bite the bullet and go that route to ensure Ii could hear as well as possible. Ultimately, we setted on top of the line Phonak Hearing Aids as well as custom ear molds and a Roger On microphone, and the result has changed my life. While I did pay a lot upfront, every time I needed service or additional help or had to have a broken ear mold remade, Bonnie has always ensured I never had to pay an additional dime. I can't recommend Bonnie enough. If and when the day comes that she decides to retire, for me, it willl be a very sad day! If you're looking for the best auditiologist in the area, give her office a call pronto!

There were almost zero therapy groups while I was there and staff fell asleep one night, allowing a male patient to enter a female patient's room while she was sleeping. I was locked in an office with a male psychiatrist during my intake (this was potentially illegal). My rights as a disabled person were ignored that night and the male psychiatrist who locked me in a room with him came up to the unit I was on the 2nd night to tell me my dad had been out of control when he was trying to lawfully enter the office while I was having my intake (he WAS NOT out of control). This same psychiatrist also tried to convince me that my autism was not a real disability. I also woke up the first morning to find a male employee sitting in my room which was highly inappropriate. There is so much more I could say about how horrible my time at St. Vincent's was but that's enough for now. The only good thing about being at St. Vincent's was interacting with the other patients. We basically formed our own therapy group and took care of each other (we called ourselves the Breakfast Club).
