Small by tamales had a good taste. Good masa to meat ratio. Need more grease. A little dry.

I grew up eating Pedro's. I didn't think there were any better tamales until now. The tamales are small, all masa, and no meat. They taste awful. I have been there a couple of times thinking it was a fluke. It's not. And the last time I requested chicken tamales and got pork. They are cutting corners and dumbing the tamales down. They won't be in business much longer unless something changes. I really hater this!! read more

I ordered Tamales on Dec 3, 2025 paid for 2 day shipping and today is Dec 8 and they still have not shipped. I called and was told they never accept 2 day shipping close to the weekend as they quit looking at orders by 3 pm in the afternoon so all orders placed in the afternoon are not filled till the next day!! the girl who took my order never mentioned that ! This is the best place to get tamales. Get them straight from here, not the same brand in the local grocery stores. They aren't as fresh. We have been getting the spicy pork tamales for years. Today we stopped in on our way out of town and ordered our regular (two dozen spicy pork with extra salsa). Marcy waited on us. I wanted to try the breakfast tamales, but no one in our group really wanted to order them, so I was outnumbered. Marcy over heard this and said, "I got you!" Wow! But it gets even better! She said, "We have dessert tamales too!" After seeing our stunned reaction to that bit of info, she put 3 dessert tamales into our bag. She didn't charge for those either. We added a few drinks to our tab and thanked her for her STELLAR customer service. She did such a fantastic job listening to our needs and suggesting products! Someone give this lady a huge pat on the back! That's the kind of employee the world needs more of! And go order a ton of tamales! They're amazing. read more

I used to sell at my restaurant in Lubbock in 1990. They were unreal then I brought them to Austin and sold them. I ordered some direct last week. They screwed the order up. They fixed it, but the qualities is not there anymore. It's not the same. I hate to see this happen. read more

We grew up on Pedro's Tamales going way back in the late 70's, early 80's when they were in that beat up warehouse downtown. I can still remember their Tamales being TAMALES. Actual Mexican Food. Leave Lubbock for over 35 years and one of the first things I did when I moved back was drive out to Pedro's get me some TAMALES. Very disappointed. Today, in the 2020's, it's not 1980's Pedro's Tamales anymore. Bland, small, commercially packaged, more like assembly line Tamales you get frozen in a Box at the grocery store packaged in New York City. Pedro's is no longer PEDRO'S to me. The Authenticity to being Mexican Tamales is no longer there. I've tried it twice now since I've been back. Never again. Pedro's is now a thing of my past. You can find way way way better, more authentic Tamales from the Tamale Ladies selling all over Facebook Marketplace, word of mouth from the Tamale people selling out of their kitchen's, so on. read more

bean talames are tasty when prepared prperlyl...the "spicy" beef talames are balnd and virtually tasteless. they are over produced with not meat texture like a meat paste. for those who find them greasy i think you are over reacting as i find there is no fat residue at all when heating them....overall very disappointing read more

Some of the best tamales in Texas! No kidding. Pedro's has been in business for over 30 years and there is a reason, his tamales are great. I generally get the Pork or Chicken and I can eat a half dozen in the parking lot! They are DeeLish, one of my highest ratings. You should know that the tamales are slightly smaller than most. When someone (Presumably Pedro) decided to open a factory to mass produce their family tamale recipe they had a great idea. The idea to cut a window into the side of the factory and sell piping hot tamales right off of the production floor was however pure genius. Sure you can pick up Pedro's tamales from most regional grocery stores and heat them at home, but there is just something about fresh ones that cannot compare. I'll be the first to admit, I am by no means a tamale connoisseur. I didn't grow up with a grandma that made them from scratch in her kitchen and to be honest, if I've ever had a tamale from somewhere other than Pedro's, I cannot recall. That to say, I'm completely sure how Pedro's stacks up in the tamale world, but I do know that fresh, still warm and directly from the factory, that they are a treat to behold. There are several varieties available including chicken, mild or spicy beef, pork or bean, but the beef has always been my go to choice. The flavorful sirloin completely immersed in it's own magnificent masa coat evokes definite attention from the taste buds. The tamales each come individually wrapped in their own corn shuck and are bound together for purchase in half dozen to dozen quantities. The drive through window with fresh from production tamales is what has always impressed me. You can however park and go inside where they sell a few additional items such as various salsas, many different flavors of hot sauces, habanero mustard, or a Pedro's mesh hat (because someone would really buy that?) along side the tamales. It's a simple tin building on a largely unpaved lot with dirt ruts big enough to lose a small car (such as a Nissan Leaf) in and a simple concept centered around one item, but absolutely worth the stop. read more

If you have ever bought tamales in the DFW area at Albertsons, or Krogers, you have had Pedro's Tamales. I love tamales. LOVE THEM! I bought 2 12 count pork ($4.99 for 12 at Albertsons today) and do not microwave them. What I did was put the oven on 350, wrapped them in wet paper towels (Shucks on of course) and wrapped all in aluminum foil. They were not frozen, and I set them out for 30 minutes before I put them in the oven. 30 minutes later, done and delicious. Great, great, great! Stay hungry my friends... read more

Pedro's has been around since the late 70's and this was always a part of going to the strip, back in the day. The packaged product they sell in grocery stores is very good, but the fresh ones sold at the drive through are AWESOME. I was in town for the first time in about 13 years last weekend, went to Pedro's, scored 2 dozen Spicy Beef Tamales, and they were incredible. I had a buddy with me who has a daughter going to Tech and he said he's never coming back to Lubbock without visiting Pedro's...high praise for people from Central Texas! Ask for some of the salsa to go with them...it's spicy perfection with the tamales. read more

I have eaten Pedro's tamales at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas for many years. They were always great. I just happened to be out and about today and came across Pedro's here in Lubbock. Man was I excited. We stopped in and had the pleasure of visiting with Stephanie. She was delightful. We picked up a dozen and a half of their pork tamales and off to the house we went. Sat down and chowed down! They were just like I remembered. Tasty with just a hint of spice. Will for sure and certain being going back on a regular basis for sure.
