I was too generous with my previous rating, so I am updating my review. In my review from five…read moreyears ago, I said positive things but also said, "They overlooked filling in and sanding certain areas of my walls." More on that... During my in-person estimate with the owner, I pointed out that the previous homeowner had removed wallpaper from bedrooms and caused torn drywall. The estimate did include prep work. Unfortunately, the employees patched only some (I saw them patch a few) uneven surfaces and holes. Three bedrooms still had some noticeable imperfections, and the master bedroom had many imperfections on all of its walls. My attached photos show a few of the many imperfections and are from soon after their completed work in 2020. I had expected that professionals would do the best-possible job. After looking at these walls for quite some time, I finally redid the patching, sanding, priming, and painting (same color) of the master bedroom myself as an amateur. This work was fairly easy and fast for me to do. My finished work looks *significantly better* than the professionals' work! I think that they should have spent a bit more time on prep work.

I contacted Higgins Painting and explained in detail the work I needed done before scheduling an…read moreestimate. I specifically asked whether this type of project was something they handled. The person I spoke with on the phone was the same individual who came to my home for the estimate. I made sure to allow plenty of time to walk through everything and explain the project. We needed some drywall repairs, and I mentioned that I was also obtaining a separate drywall estimate. I was told that wouldn't be a problem and that they could handle both the drywall repairs and the painting. During the visit, I was asked to make sure certain items were moved or covered. I found that a little surprising, as I assumed a professional painting company would assist with protecting furniture and work areas, especially larger items that homeowners cannot easily move themselves. The estimator spent approximately 35 minutes at my home taking measurements and photos. Before leaving, he stated that I would receive an estimate within a day or two. Five days passed with no estimate and no communication. I called and left a voicemail. Two more days passed with no response. I then called again and sent an email. After another three days, I finally received a voicemail. The message simply stated that the project was "outside the scope of work" they perform. There was no explanation, no apology for the delay, and no effort to contact me sooner so I could arrange other estimates. As a result, more than a week of my time was wasted. I returned the call because I was confused. I reminded him that I had specifically asked before scheduling the appointment whether this was work they handled. He simply repeated that it was outside their scope of work. When I asked for clarification and requested to speak with a manager, he repeated the same statement again and then hung up on me. Based on the interaction, I believe he may have been the owner. The entire experience felt unprofessional, dismissive, and disrespectful. If the project was never something your company wanted to take on, that should have been communicated before sending someone to my home and certainly before waiting over a week to tell me. In the end, it may have worked out for the best. After this experience, I spoke with others in the area and heard about a negative experience someone else had with the company. I was then referred to Adam West Painting. Adam and his wife came to my home, were professional, thorough, and responsive, and took the time to answer my questions. Based on their excellent reviews, referrals, and professionalism, we have decided to hire them for our painting project. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing enough that I felt others should be aware of it.
