Late to the party but I finally made it to this vintage store when I saw they were doing a big giveaway on a bunch of random things on some random weekend. I used that as an opportunity to visit, and I got to explore the rest of the store. They're located in that random giant industrial area that runs alongside Route 1 on the side where the train tracks are. It can definitely be easy to miss, and parking in the lot itself is quite limited. The adjacent street allows parking too, but sheesh it gets crowded. The vintage store is bigger than it may appear from the outside, and there's truly a LOT to sort through. Furniture, trinkets, pillows... you name it, they have it. There were some small tables and stools that almost found a home with me, but I was like... where am I going to put these things?! My kitchen is already being to be overloaded, and I rather not have that same energy rippling through the rest of the house. I ended up seeing this beautiful and vintage black and gold highball and shaker set that fit my bar / living room space really well, and I couldn't resist. I haven't been back in a while, but I'm sure if I returned I'd find something else neat. We'll see! read more

One of the first businesses that comes to mind on this #ThankYouThursday is Peg Leg Vintage. Funny enough, my last review for Peg Leg was almost two years ago 5.16.18. It comes at perfect timing that I write another 5 star review for one of my favorite local businesses in the area. As I just moved in with my sister temporarily, and realized how much of my furniture is actually from Peg Leg Vintage itself. So, just to give you an idea. 1. My small mid-century desk with single drawer and writing pull out #PegLegVintage If I listed out all the small stuff I got there, I'd run out of review space, but I think you can see the point. Yeah... you could definitely say that I'm pretty loyal. But there's a number of reasons. Outside of the owners Krisi and Chad being two of the nicest people I've ever met, the furniture has been restored beautifully, is very reasonably priced, and the variety is serious. You can find all of the danish teakwood coffee tables and chairs you'd ever want, but you'll also find some REALLY interesting 70's pieces or Tiki inspired pieces. It's different than other stores in the area that just solely put a bunch of refinished teak in the same exact stain on the floor and charge a premium. It's a cavalcade of different styles, inspirations, designers and materials from the mid century that is so fun to explore. Also, two important things to mention. They have an ENORMOUS warehouse with a ton of furniture that they work on. So if they don't have something specific in store you're looking for, they likely have it in their warehouse and can have it restored for you. Two: They post all their new merchandise on their Facebook page once a week when they are open. So it's a really good idea to like their page so you'll see all the new stuff coming in. I had the opportunity to attend an event here that showcased the showroom and I really enjoyed my experience with Peg Leg Vintage. I haven't had too many opportunities to visit vintage furniture stores because I just thought the prices would be too fancy for me but after Krisi (the owner) explained how this furniture typically goes for 2-3 times as much in other stores or online, I think I have been missing out for years now. It is a bargain given the amount of time, effort, level of detail, and quality that goes into each piece. It really is a work of art and I was just impressed. I also really enjoyed hearing Krisi and her husband's origin story about how they began using Craigslist and other online shops, and then getting a small store in College Park. I appreciate the discussion on where they find their bargains because many do not reveal that and Krisi let us know that she could not pass up a yard sale (SAME), driving hours to auctions, and other sales etc. I have to say my favorite piece was still the office piece from the 1800s with the land deed from 1908 that had math on the envelope. That gave me so many warm fuzzies and was so nostalgic! That one feels like it was around for lots of stories and just keeps getting reinvented. I love it! I can't wait to come down and check out the Mad Wovens, 100% recycled cotton, eco-friendly pillows. So many designs to choose from and who doesn't want custom made designs that are limited edition but featured in movies, historical homes, and/or sold to presidents!? I highly recommend a visit to the showroom soon, oh and visits are by appointment...yes you heard me M-F are by appointment so you can shop like a celebrity during Covid! So set up your appointment, put on your designer shades, and go get your star treatment...just don't forget to buy something :). read more

I have reached a point in my life where I have decided I absolutely hate all my furniture which is a hodge podge of the Shabby Chic furniture collection from Target circa 2006, my mom's discarded crap and half broken shelves from Ikea. Mike B has been singing the praises of Peg Leg Vintage for pretty much as long as I have known him so after going through my (a little bit later than) quarter-life crisis I did what any sane person would do and started stalking the store on Facebook. And boy was I in for a visual treat! Their FB page is updated very frequently with all of their finds which include everything from hand carved tiki furniture and cocktail sets to collectible toasters and what seems to be their sweet spot: mid-century furniture. They do not list prices on their website which kind of freaked me out (you can email them for more info but as a casual browser that type of commitment was just too much for me). Luckily for me, I found myself in the area a few weeks later with fanboy Mike himself so we decided to stop in. Pricing as actually fantastic (especially compared to the other stores and shops I have found online) AND you get a 10% discount if you check in on Yelp. The owner Kirsi, upon learning of my predicament mentioned that she gets ton of new items every day and if I figured out what general direction I wanted to go style wise in my apartment she can make sure to shoot me some suggestions on how to put everything together. Her background is in design so she knows her stuff! I walked in timid and walked out having confidence that I too, could one day live in a spot that doesn't make me feel like I am living on the set of "2 Broke Girls." What a local gem.... OOOO, I love Peg Leg Vintage! I'd heard about this gem of a vintage store owned by Ms. Krisi, nestled in College Park, from MIKE B. The store has been around since '13 and offers a variety of high-quality and highly-coveted vintage treasures in their little store. The space is jam-packed with goodies upon goodies upon goodies - pieces for the living room, the bedroom, the dining room, the table top, as well as items just for decor. The hubs and I stopped by to check this place out, and we thought we'd just take a little looksy. I loved checking out their vintage glass tumblers, the teak party trays, as well as their lovely selection of chairs/sofas! While we were on our way out, a stack of vintage ceramic dishes from the '70s, designed by Marimekko (!!!) caught my eye. I HAD TO HAVE THESE!!! I loved that Ms. Krisi (who was super friendly, super welcoming, and super nice!!!) was so knowledgeable on all of the pieces that are being sold in her store, so it was super awesome to get such details :D The hubs and I were also super impressed that the condition and the quality was top-notch on all of their pieces - this may be a vintage store, but boy, do these pieces have little to hardly no wear on them! And, the prices? You will be ecstatic that the items are priced competitively and fair! I attended Yelp's Peg Leg event and knew I had to stop by this place. I went on a Saturday around 2:00 pm and there were a couple of people there so it was easy to socially distance and everyone wore masks. My intention was to take my time and look around. I did not expect to buy anything, but then I saw it. The perfect dresser for my bedroom. I bought it on the spot. Sometimes the furniture picks you I suppose. Krisi was really helpful in explaining the background on the piece and answered all of our questions. While the price of the dresser is higher than I was expecting to pay, the piece was perfect and it has a history in addition to the refurbishing it went through. I also rather support a local business than buy a similar piece from a big retailer. Even if you don't buy anything, check out Peg Leg! I was looking for a gem and I definitely found it at Peg Leg Vintage. It's a cute store full of all sorts of cool, unique knick knacks and furniture. It's vintage, but some stuff also look modern. This is a great place if you want to change up the decor in your home! If I had more money and my own place, I'd definitely pick up a few more things from here. Unlike similar stores with crazy price tags, I was permitted and encouraged to pet the furniture- again I was all like, "whaaaaaaaat?!" There's nothing more charming than an unpretentious store with affordable stuff that makes you want to pull a Lord of the Rings and proclaim, "my precious!" It's been said that you shouldn't ask about prices when the tags are not present- screw that! Peg Leg's prices are surprising reasonable and things are priced to sell. How cool is that? They have a plethora of Mad Men-era goodies to make your man maddeningly pimped and your mamma proud. I've been informed that they have a warehouse of "stuff" in addition to what's seen in their brick and mortar and can be viewed via their FB page. Oh, and they deliver to D.C- and it's also very reasonable. (Feel free to insert your own, "whaaaaaaat?!") The owner was very approachable and so down-to-earth that if felt like a mid-century hello; no tilted glasses on the end of pointy noses or "your kind shouldn't be here" kinda looks. She was so welcoming that she inspired a 5-star yelp review. Now listen up! Target sells some vintage knock-offs and the IKEA around the corner sells some DIY assembly-required vintage-y modern-ish hodgepodge mish mash- but for a few bucks more you can have the real thing delivered right to your D.C doorstep! Such a fun friendly place! Chad showed me around and informed me that I had an expensive 60s taste (fell in love with a couch that had a price tag of $1595, gorgeous piece though. And also some other pieces that evidently were around that price range :-\). It's not hard to appreciate things in this store, they are well kept and polished up. The owners definitely add a modern twist on old items, vintage! If only I could afford it.. I was upfront about my financial state (i.e. student) and Chad was still friendly and did not make me feel at all less welcomed! thanks Chad! He even said his partner would be willing to give tips on arranging furniture and decorating to anyone who walks in, regardless if they're looking to buy or just some advice. I definitely witnessed it as 5 more people walked in and she definitely encouraged those questions. These people def do it for the love! An awesome addition to College Park! I can't believe we overlooked this cute little shop on Route 1 for so many months. It's full of great vintage furniture and decor finds, especially mid-century modern pieces. I can't believe so much of their stock is over 50 years old, but is in such good condition. Prices are not surprising for quality vintage - don't expect thrift store prices here, but everything seemed reasonable for the condition and quality. Krisi is incredibly friendly and helpful. I should keep this a secret, but she said Thursdays are the best days to visit while stock is freshly replenished. I can't wait to go back. read more

Peg Leg is a groovy place to peruse when you have nothing better to do. However, their merchandise is pricey and not all that--unless you categorize yourself as a vintage junkie willing to pay anything to achieve your high. I was driving down baltimore ave and stopped at a stop light. The perfect time to actually check out your surroundings. I saw a sign that said peg leg vintage. I love vintage and said I have to check that place out. I went to work and told my colleague about my sighting to my amazement, he says he loves it there and actually bought a few pieces. A stamp of approval. I went inside and was just amazed at the array of pieces and the quality. True vintage gems. Part of me really does feel bad for not rating this place higher given how good the customer service is. I'm pretty sure if you're looking for something specific, the owners will be more than happy to help you out. Their customer service is phenomenal and they have a good social media presence. I once emailed them to inquire about their inventory and they were very responsive. The thing is, their prices are just insane... I think they've really tapped into the DC area where some other stores are just so marked up that people are willing to pay the prices they offer even if a better deal could be found elsewhere. This was my first visit to Peg Leg Vintage furniture and I was pleasantly surprised. The owner, Krisi could not have been more helpful. She spent a lot of time with me looking for a table for my dad. Krisi measured tables and navigated me around the shop to look at possibilities of tables that were hidden from view. I was tempted by some lamps that would have been perfect for my den, but alas it is summer and as an educator things are always financially tighter in the summer. Krisi offered to deliver the table if my dad liked it. She was so accommodating that I would definitely return for other vintage pieces. Krisi offered me the 10 percent Yelper discount even if I was unable to make my purchase today. There were many unique items that made it hard to leave. On our way driving to IKEA, my friend pointed out Peg Leg Vintage to me and suggested we stop there on the way home, and I happily agreed, eyeing the cute chairs for sale in the front. However, by the time we were done with our IKEA mission, I had totally forgotten about Peg Leg -- and thank goodness he reminded me because I ended up scoring the most beautiful vintage jewelry box. Now, I had been on the hunt for a perfect jewelry box for literal years but had settled for the time being on storing the majority of my jewelry in an ugly plastic container, with the rest scattered around my apartment. I was waiting to fall in love. Granted, I had tried to find some jewelry boxes on various websites, such as Anthropologie and even Pottery Barn, but none were big enough to fit my vast jewelry collection, nor deserving enough. Enter Peg Leg and its offering of vintage Mele & Co. jewelry boxes. I had never heard of Mele until that very moment, in which the very approachable store owner told me about their famed jewelry boxes. Mele still produces them today, but they are nowhere near as endearing as these old finds. Peg Leg had two available, in navy and white, but the white one was falling apart a bit -- plus, I preferred the color blue anyway. Since the velvet fabric covering its bottom was tearing off, the woman agreed to knock the price from $46 to $40. This was a veritable deal, as Etsy offers vintage Mele for similar prices, but you have to pay shipping on top of that! The offerings lean heavily mid-century modern, which isn't necessarily my style, but there are cool things beyond that. I, for example, was charmed by a vintage cream whipper and a vintage pink formica table. LOVE. Also, I didn't notice until now that you get 10% if you check in on Yelp! Very cool place! Not in my price range, but very cool! They had a lot of interesting pieces packed into the tiny location. The owner greeted us right away and later came over to see what we were looking for. He also said they always looking for "Danish Modern" pieces to add to the collection. I don't know what that means but if Danish Modern is the stuff in the store then I like it! Someday, when I have disposable income (laughs sadly) I'll come back in here and buy one of the really cool items. Okay, anyone who knows me knows that I look like I came out of the 1960s. Awesome vintage decor and affordable! The owners a gal and guy were super sweet. It literally feels like you are stepping into the late 1960s early 1970s with giant table lamps, peg leg corner and coffee tables and groovy artwork. Great great great shop!!! Krisi is a super knowledgeable owner who has an amazing love of mid-century furniture. I learned more about this period talking to Krisi than the rest of my life. The furniture is of the highest sturdy quality, expertly finished by the team that are behind this fantastic shop. It's not inexpensive compared to Ikea but still relatively inexpensive and the quality, originality & overall style just can't be beat. Hidden gem? More like a treasure chest! I'm not normally one to shop in vintage stores, but nearly everything in Pegleg looks almost brand new because it's in such great shape. This is definitely not your typical dust-covered antique shop! Items range from cool glassware to funky looking ashtrays to full on furniture, with even quite a few fun items like a must-have globe or cool taxidermied moose head. Today was my second visit to Peg Leg -- and the second time I bought stuff! The selection of mid-century modern furniture and decorative objects is great, and the prices are better than at most stores that carry similar merchandise. The owners Chad and Krisi really know a lot about what they sell, and they are so generous in sharing their knowledge. Chad took the time to oil the teak coffee table I was buying so it would look its best, and he showed me how easy it would be to replace the movement in a wall clock I was thinking of buying (and no surprise, I ended up buying it). I had a great time talking with them not only about MCM furniture but about lots of other subjects too -- they must be fun to have a beer with! It's so terrific to find a store that carries well chosen, well priced home goods, and it's icing on the cake that the owners seem like genuinely good people. read more

Just up RI Ave, or the first exit past I-95). This place crushes the competition on U Street and 14th Street (you know what I'm talking about). Every time I go in I find many things that I want to buy. Your friends will certainly gush over whatever you buy here. (I don't know what Tamara W. is talking about--"the merchandise is not all that." Holy cow, the merchandise is excellent) It ain't cheap. They aren't giving this stuff away. Peg Leg is an amazing find. I purchased a one-of-a-kind dining set that looks awesome in my apartment. It is in great shape and Krisi and Chad were terrific. I love mid century furniture and not because of Mad Men. This shop has a great variety of what any antiques lover would want to find. All furniture and accent pieces are in excellent condition. There is also a wide variety of lamps, decor and glasswork. I highly recommend Peg Leg!
