Heartwood Fence built me the best fence and exceeded my expectations. They're a young company…read morerelative to some of the big companies in my area, and I always like to support local businesses when I can. When I called for a quote, I talked to Spence who helped me throughout the process and was sure he answered my and my wife's questions. He presented different quotes as requested without any fuss. The crew that showed up at my property to do the work were diligent, hardworking, and performed their job to the max. They removed my old 4.5' fence and installed a 6' fence with 6x6 posts, which is unusual if you look around, as I did as I was out and about around the area, I haven't seen anyone with 6x6 posts, all of them have 4x4 posts, which means that this fence is going to last a very long time in my opinion. Also, the cap and rails on the top of the fence are beefier than most of this style, (2x6). The word I use to describe this fence when I tell my friends about it is Diesel! When the inspector came out to look at it, he walked the fence and was done in about 2 mins, with no questions as I'm sure he was impressed with the quality. if you're shopping around for a fence, make sure you talk to Spencer and the folks at Heartwood Fence. Not only did I get a higher quality fence, it was at a price that was less than the competition.

Cannot fault these guys. From coming out to giving us a quote/consultation, to getting our fenced…read moregate put in, they were quick, efficient and kept us well informed the whole way. We heard about and saw in person all the work they've done at the AFB. So at the end of the consultation, we put a deposit down and within a couple of weeks (as per their timeline), the work was done - and done to a very good standard too. The price came to about the same amount my husband estimated to do it ourselves, as we put up our own fence, but as time was not on our side, we decided to call in the pros. It's a simple, yet sturdy privacy gate, the dog cannot slip under it but the rain will, as the yard is on a slight camber. We recommend them!

Update: the response to my review was a continuation of the condescension, to the point of actually…read morebeing aggressive about it. It was as if they were trying to bully me into changing my review, rather than addressing any concern I raised. It's also been 2 days since installation finished and our gate has already failed. They took the time to respond to my google review prior to responding about fixing our gate. No acknowledgement of that yet. The material they use looks good, that's about all I have positive to say after this experience. They will tell you lots of pretty things about the attention to detail and how much they care when you're getting the quote and then the entire attitude changes when they have your deposit. Rosenbaum was, by far, the most expensive company we got a quote from for fencing (we're talking thousands of dollars more than the next most expensive company). When I told them we were going to be getting other quotes, they offered to add in a 10x10 temporary fence for our dogs while we waited for our installation. This, paired with how much they talked about their attention to detail is why we chose them (despite how wildly expensive they are). The temporary fence took a lot longer to be put up than we were told, and they only put up a 4x4 fence, not the 10x10 we were promised. I asked about this change, and we were told it was because they didn't have a gate that could go with a 10x10 fence. They came and extended it a little bit (we ended up with a 4x8 or so temporary fence). This was the first irritating thing that happened, and there was a total lack of communication regarding the change, but we let it go because it was temporary. We had to get our permit changed and re-approved by the city--which isn't Rosenbaum's fault. The permit process took a while and by the time we had installation scheduled, the power lines needed to be re-marked for the installation crew. Rosenbaum failed to do this on their own, and I had to ask about it. They said they wouldn't risk the safety of their crew (which is reasonable, but they should have planned ahead for that) and that we needed to wait another week for the lines to be marked. They came this week to install our fence and gave a timeline (that they claimed was on the safe side) for it to be completed. They completed everything except our gate, and left for the day. Despite the fence not being complete, they took the temporary fence away with them. Our fence had a large gap underneath, and I reached out to ask how large of a gap was normal. The response was 2-4", and I let them know that we had gaps that were more than 5.5" and we were concerned about our dogs being able to get out. The response was that "maybe they could lower the posts a little bit" but that "the fence looks beautiful". I'm less concerned with aesthetics and more concerned about my dogs and young child not being able to get underneath our fence. They trimmed a tree while doing fence installation and left the branches sitting in our yard. Nobody said a word to us about trimming the branches being our responsibility. In fact, the crew that came out told us that they would not need to remove any branches. Despite all of this, their response to me asking them to remove these branches was that it was not their responsibility and that they actually did us a favor by trimming the tree. The tree that they told us wouldn't need to be trimmed at all. They also left metal stakes sticking out in the corners of our yard. Again, we have dogs and a 3 year old child, so this was a safety hazard. They said they would take the branches as a courtesy because they left the stakes. I reached out with my concerns about all of this, I stressed that I felt like the attention to detail disappeared after the initial quote and that we were really unhappy with a lot of the things that happened throughout this process, especially given that they were the most expensive company. The response was "we are the best" and to talk down on other companies. Absolutely no accountability at all, just pure condescension.

UPDATE 7/15/26 - Last month Jonathan Zook (DanDale Marketing) contacted me about our experience…read more After discussing with him he said what happened was not what DanDale holds as being their standard. He apologized for the negative experience. He further advised since we were not provided a gate on one side, had removed the lattice and reduced the amount of fence being installed, despite the previous price adjustment it was still not correct and that we were due about a $1700 refund. He offered to come out and estimate putting in a custom gate, but reiterated there will likely still be somewhat of a gap issue. We decided to just go without the gate and accepted sending us a refund check. We were contacted today by Ashley McNair. She advised that a refund check was in the mail. This does not change the overall sales to installation experience, but we are satisfied with the resolution, which is the basis for changing the experience rating from 1 star to 3 stars. Recommend them but be prepared to manage the installation and communications, to ensure your expectations are met. ORIGINAL POST: We had a premium vinyl fence installed by DanDale Fencing at our home in Yorktown, Virginia (located in the new Celestial Way Community), and the experience was disappointing for a project costing us nearly $16,000. While the installation crew worked hard and the materials are solid, the planning, communication, and honesty from management were severely lacking. Our salesperson, Billy, assured us the yard's grade was no issue. On installation day, the crew told us to have a gate, a large gap would be left under the fence on the right side of our yard. When we called the office, Jeremy claimed we had been warned beforehand, which was untrue. Only after we pushed back did they offer a "custom gate" to fix the problem -- at an extra cost. Because we refused to pay more for something that should have been planned correctly, we ended up losing a gate entirely just to keep the fence flush to the ground. There was no English‑speaking supervisor or project manager on-site, making communication difficult (we had to use Google Translate). The crew did their best, but they were put in a bad position by their own management. We ended up without a gate on the right side of our property unless we pay additional for a custom gate. So, despite losing a gate and access to part of our yard due to their poor planning, DanDale offered no price adjustment for no gate nor any other appropriate solutions. In the end, we upheld our financial responsibility; they did not uphold theirs. To date, they have made no attempt to follow-up with us or take any satisfaction steps. Despite what others have gone through, I cannot recommend a company like DanDale Fence.

Installers were not at all clear what the fence design was supposed to be and framed as a normal…read moreshadow box instead of what was discussed with the sales person.. picture framed shadow box. the framing was complete before I saw it was wrong. We went ahead and allowed them to continue as is.. No one from the company ever came to property at beginning or end of project. The company really needs to think about how they are running projects. In the end the fence look okay but I had them leave some some fence planks so I can replace some boards that are not (I feel )correct. I felt like my wife and I were the project managers.
