It was a pretty average but solid Chinese buffet place pre-COVID that we would eat once or twice a month just because we are used to great and plentiful restaurants, and since moving to Spencer, there is a lack of anything of the sort other than typical and limited fast food options, average pizza, and good Mexican. But enter COVID19 shut down and now the place is carry out only. I mean you can't even get past the front double doorway! But you can order off the menu, and it's fantastic! The food has been top notch and fresh. They're also very quick. I order and she will tell me 10 minutes and I drive over and it's ready. Excellent Chinese. REAL CHINESE FOOD. I see people saying it just doesn't taste like other places. That is because this place is authentic. This is not the American Chinese a lot of people are likely comparing it to. It is worth traveling for. We recently moved and are no longer 'locals'. I travel over 50 miles just to get Peking takeout several times a month. I tried multiple other 'Chinese' places in my current area and none are up to par with Peking! Peking is offering takeout only at this time since Covid. But it is so much better than the buffet ever was in my opinion. The portions are huge, I can order takeout and for around $50 feed my family on it for 3 days or more! Larger portions for takeout than any other Chinese restaurants in surrounding areas. Flavorful! This is the real deal there is flavor with every dish I have tried! The eggrolls are the best around and the food is always fresh! Takes about 10-15 minutes from call in to pickup. Literally fast food, call ahead when traveling and pick it up when you stop through. Next level customer service too! They remember you! It was probably three months AFTER I moved when I gave up trying to find any good local Chinese food. I called placed a takeout order and they asked where I had been! You don't find this level of customer service anywhere else these days. When I really don't want to cook for a few days and order a bunch of food, they always include something free. Ug. Buffets are buffets... This restaurant somehow caused the other Chinese restaurant in Spencer to go out of business. This is a surprise to me! First off, you must get here before 7:30 pm to have warm food options, or really any food options at all. You scavenge what is left over because they no longer fill the buffet to not waste food after about 7 pm. While the roasted chicken, peanut chicken, and lo mein were the best options, everything else was fairly tasteless, rubbery and cold. It makes me wonder if Chinese restaurants have to go to a special school to learn how to make "classic American" Chinese food recipes... It's far from authentic and just blah. Although locals love their buffets and this is the "new place" in town, I think it's disgusting. I mainly dined on their ice cream cups near the dessert section and hot green tea. Pretty average buffet food, but hey, it rocks to have something besides burgers and pizza in this little town. Huzzah! I would give it 3 stars, but the food quality isn't consistent. If you go during peak traffic, or on holidays when they expect pretty steady service, the food is pretty good and selections are a little better. If you go on an average weekday evening, the food's probably been sitting under a heat lamp for God knows how long, and it's probably overcooked and rubbery. That being said, it's a good alternative to the rest of the town's offerings -- burgers, burgers, pizza, pizza, and fried stuff. And the tofu/veg stir fry is pretty good. I would recommend ordering off the menu instead of doing the buffet thing for the best quality food. read more

From years of experience attending this exact location with the exact same owner for more than 10 years. It's no longer worth the money. She tried to charge me $28.75 for this. I said NEVERMIND when I called in the order. She then asked well how many people are eating. 1 I just wanted a lunch small meal and only 4 items. She then said "for you $20" "I will do it for you" then I get there to pick up my order and locate the menu. Her prices are listed but she charged me for a full quart of Pepper chicken. This particular meal was not great. I used to LOVE the cheese wontons. These were my FAVORITE! They are put together smaller than other places but they were DELICIOUS and always perfectly cooked. (Almost under cooked) now they are... BURNT just like every where else. Other places were so dry on the inside and just terrible. They used to be great here. Can not say they were today. I am so disappointed that the owner/cashier is gouging everyone by only serving take out. There is no more buffet, because of COVID 19... what a load of crap! At this point.... I have no desire to ever go back. Maybe if she gets shut down... someone with better moral compass can come in and take over. The lo mein noodles at this location have Always been terrible. General Tao's chicken... great... fried rice... terrible. Now I know why my mom used to HATE going there when I was a kid for take out. The owner would follow her around as she put food in her containers. She would say rude comments and just all together has a terrible customer service attitude. She should just close! I am the Chinese food expert that's all I ever eat besides burgers and pizza. so I had a high expectation for this place and it was not met in the slightest. the food is just so tasteless and not in the slightest taste. I only enjoyed the wontons they had out. My one year old eats everything you put in front of him but he did not seem to want anything I gave him. The lady who was the server made me feel as if I ate to much by bringing me the check basically as soon as we sat down. so I was the least bit impressed by this place and it hurts that I have to drive a hour away to get decent Chinese food. I was surprised at how low the other reviews were for the Peking Restaurant. Maybe I'm easy to please. So, here is my experience, keeping in mind that I've only eaten there for lunch or an early dinner. Here is what I like at a Chinese Restaurant: Chicken with Broccoli, Green beans, mushrooms, rice noodles, hot and sour soup, and green tea. The waitress is very pleasant and accommodating. All of the things that I typically get are always good, fresh and hot. I prefer it to the Chinese Restaurant in Ripley. And, yes, I'm a fan! read more

Stopped by hungry and found a nice variety of typical Chinese buffet food choices for a small town restaurant along with typical Chinese buffet food desserts including cups of vanilla, chocolate & strawberry ice cream. The food was tasty and seemed fresh. The chicken on a stick was really good and very tender. Prices were inexpensive. read more

My son and I ate at the buffet one night because it was the only restaurant in town still open after 7 pm (that wasn't fast food). We both like Chinese food and have eaten at several places with good results, this wasn't one of them. The food was cold, and everything was greasy. The Peking Buffet in Spencer is a business I frequent with my fiancé as I just like American-Style Chinese food. I find that some days the food varies but I enjoy the warm and inviting atmosphere and the hostesses remember who you are and what you usually prefer to drink. I really enjoy their butter shrimp, Lo Mein, green beans, and actually now that I think about it most of their food. I find their use of vegetables to be quite nice considering I am not a big meat eater but my fiancé is so they have a balanced food option. And now that they have been in business for a while I find that they have gotten into a rhythm and their food is warm and well-seasoned and they have corrected a lot of issues that apparently were brought up in the other reviews. read more

No way. I'm fat, I like to eat. I love a buffet but, no way. We stopped here on the way through Spencer. First, she puts us at a table and placed the high chair blocking the walkway back to where all the other customers were seated. (3 tables) I cannot believe people were eating that. They had macaroni and cheese- looked like macaroni and lots of yellow water. The Chinese noodles were swimming in a gallon of water. An obvious attempt to revive old food that had been sitting all day and dried up. Everything else was dried up. Like, beyond eatable. Like they put out yesterday's old food and it sat today too. Coconut chicken that was rock hard, with what looked like clumps of hardened Elmer's glue. My 5yo was really hungry and I started to make him a plate but I couldn't finish. He was poking some nasty browned caulking around the steam table. I carried a plate for myself but nothing looked eatable- nothing. I sat down with an empty plate. Seriously, I was a hungry fat girl, but I just couldn't. My 5yo started to hand my 18 month old some food off of his plate and I couldn't let them eat that. We straight up walked out while my husband told them why. They said a bunch of things in Chinese and we left. I have never in my life, I'm 35, walked out of a buffet, or any restaurant.
