We have a usual spot however they were closed on the particular day we were craving some Chinese food. did not dine in, this is based on the takeout order. Service was fast and they were kind! Their packaging for all the extras is super cute. The rice could have been steamed and at a higher temp when we got back from picking it up. Also rice could have been a bit softer, not mushy but softer. 6/10 Sesame chicken and the other chicken option was 100/10! I LOVED it! The orange sauce was good but only on the day we ordered. Had some left overs and after being in the fridge it was weirdly clumpy. Like slime. 6/10 The chicken wings and cookies The chicken wings are so tender and the perfect light crisp. 10/10. Fortune cookies were so stale 1/10 Overall, this is a great spot to go to as a second option for Chinese in the city. Went today for lunch and they had a very tasty buffet!! It was only $12.50!!! They were very nice in there and the food was hot and fresh tasting. I wasn't sure if I could eat in because a friend told me they only do take out. But when I arrived I was able to eat inside. Don't know if that's just a lunch thing or if u can now eat in always. I am so happy to see Peking Wok's dining room back open after closing for the pandemic. I continued placing pickup orders after their reopening May 2020 til recently. I passed by last week and noticed the Dining Room Now Open sign and was ecstatic. I visited today on a Sunday evening, I was the only one dining inside (I saw 1 pickup order). The manager seemed just as excited to have me dine in as I was to dine in. I ordered an egg roll and Hunan Chicken- both were extremely fresh and tasty. Although I continued coming for takeout the last 3 years, I truly enjoyed the dine in experience again. The lunch buffet is back too. I'll be back to try the buffet soon! read more

Pretty solid Chinese option on this side of town. The General Tso's chicken was good with the right amount of spice. Large portions for a good price. The eggrolls are excellent, they were hot and crispy. The main dining area is currently closed do to worker shortage and supply chain issues. The owner is so nice and quick. Has become worst Chinese food ever! Was good before Covid, they shut down the dining room for about 3 years and the food got progressively worse on takeout. No spice, little flavor. Vowed off the food awhile back, but wanted some soup and eggrolls so decided to give it a shot again. Hot and sour soup was neither hot nor sour- very sweet, and very gelatinous- yuck. I tried this restaurant last week after receiving a mailbox flyer for the establishment. I gave them a try and ordered chicken with broccoli. Unfortunately, two hours later I experienced a horrible bout of food poisoning that lasted over 24 hours. No doubt that my meal caused the problem. Obviously, I will not go back and am sure other patrons may have had a similar experience on that day. I had hoped that this local restaurant would be wonderful but it never occurred that my health would be compromised like it was. Decided to come here despite the not so stellar reviews. I was pleasantly surprised! We ordered the crab angels. They were so good. Hot and fresh! I got the chicken and broccoli, my daughter got the orange chicken. I could tell they were freshly prepared. The food was piping hot with huge portions. I am not a fan of orange chicken but I decided to try a bite because it looked so good and it was the best I've ever tasted. My chicken and broccoli was really good too. We needed something different from all the Christmas fair we had been eating. We had been shopping and decided to pick up. As we remember that place on South Shades Crest. After going in to order we dined in, service was good Egg Rolls were very good and the fried dumplings were tasty the sauce was a little too sweet for me but I enjoyed it. I got the General Shu Chicken it was very good. My wife ordered the combination Mongolian... it was outstanding. The table, the menus could have been cleaner. They just were tacky to the touch. The silverware was clean , glasses were clean. The plates for the egg rolls one was not clean it had a little green specks and it looked like it was wiped with a napkin or towel. We found out they offer delivery. So next time we will stay home. .WE HAD PLENTY TO TAKE HOME TOO. read more

So it's hard for me to give a bad review for Chinese take out for the idea in and of itself is sketchy already. I would consider myself a very tolerant critic towards Chinese places as you get what you pay for. I am on the road a lot and have mastered the art of take out, specifically Chinese. For this place I ordered sesame chicken and asked for it to be crunchy/ deep fried and spicy with chili peppers. What I got was sweet and sour chicken with the sweet and sour sauce. All they did was add the peppers that I asked for and our sesame seeds in the sauce. Complete fail! When I called to confront they were nice but insisted it was sesame chicken. I didn't bother arguing but hung up. Word if the wise, they are rates poorly for a reason. Don't order from them. read more

My family came here at 1:12 today and was told they would not be putting more food out on the bar for lunch. Everything was empty but a few pans of food. The lady told them she didn't care if they left. This is AFTER we got a wheelchair out for my disabled father. We will NEVER come back. I frequent this restaurant on average once a week, and I have never received the level of service I've received today. Let's start from the beginning. I ordered by phone and gave my order of Chicken Fried Rice, no vegetables, and 2 egg rolls. The employee on the other end taking the order repeated my order like always, and told me it would take 5 minutes. Then proceeded to hang up. Though awkward, this is normal and I've grown use to it. When I arrived to the restaurant, I came to the counter and waited patiently for the same employee I spoke to on the phone to get off of another order she was taking. While on the phone she pulled out a ticket with my order on it, and asked if this was my order. I said yes initially, but upon re-reviewing the ticket I noticed the the ticket had mention of "no vegetables". The employee brought me my food while she was on another call, and I mouthed to her "does this have vegetables in it"? No reply was given as she was focused on her current call. As a result, I checked the food before I left, and saw that it indeed had vegetables. I waited for the employee to conclude the phone call she had, and then told her that "this was not supposed to have vegetables". Instead of replying with my apologies, or sorry for the mistake, the employee looked at me as if I was lying, and asked "did you say that on the phone, because I always repeat my orders". Aghast at the response I was given, I politely acknowledged that I did in fact say that on the phone call. The employee replied with, "Well just make sure you tell us before next time, and took my rice back to the kitchen to amend the error. I did not reply to the second snide remark. I was tired, hungry, and ready to be home. I waited another 5-7 minutes for the order to be fixed. After that time the same employee came out of the kitchen with my food. As she returned behind the counter, she tossed my food on the counter and said "here you go sir". Appalled, by her blatant disrespect for the customer I simply replied "thank you" to which the employee did not reply, or acknowledge. This was a horrible experience to say the least, and I will not return. read more

Let me start off this review with something positive... The delivery was decent. 25 minute delivery time and the delivery guy was pleasant. Now with that out of the way, I will share my honest review. The server who took my order did not fully understand what I asked for after asking multiple times of what I could order and not order. I simply asked for substitutions on certain items. If they couldn't be done, I would order something else. Instead of telling me that could she couldn't sub certain items, she simply charged me more for what I originally wanted. I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken. It tasted like pure corn syrup with salt. The chicken was overcooked and rubbery, the veggies where no where near crisp and the rice was not truly fried; just soy sauce to make it look "fried". On top of that, I was charged extra for it. I also got beef and broccoli because it was a side order. I asked for lo mein instead of rice. She told me she couldn't sub the rice for lo mein. I asked her if I could get beef lo mein instead with added broccoli. She said yes. Fast forward with my food and the lo mein noodles aren't even lo mein noodles! This was regular spaghetti pasta! The noodles super dry, the beef looked old as it seemed preheated from the previous day, and the broccoli was criso except in s bad cway; it was raw. I'm usually pretty lenient but this was unacceptable. I still paid for was seemed revenant of my actual order but rest assured I won't order from this place again. read more

This place is really convenient on my way home so I have only ordered food to go. When you go in the staff is friendly and are quick to process to go orders. While I have been inside I have noticed they are relatively spacious and have a buffet (never available when I am there...I just checked the website and they don't list buffet hours, so you would need to call to check for hours). I have had the Hunan Combo (spicy) with Beef/Chicken/Shrimp. I have also done the Mongolian Beef (a little sweet for my liking). Also, have had the shrimp fried rice. If you want they allow you to upgrade the side of rice to fried rice for a small additional fee. Like I said its convenient and quick on my way home. Nothing out of the ordinary here, but if you are in the mood for some Chinese food this place does the trick. read more

Atmosphere- Medium sized. Clean. Chinese decorations. Staff- Friendly. Not out going just friendly. Food- Pretty much tastes like all other Chinese Restaurants in the Birmingham area. I've only had 1 problem with the food. For a month or so the Mongolian Beef was so sweet it actually had chunks of sugar. Big crystallized chunks and it was bad. So a few things up front - I feel terrible about writing this review because I like to support small businessses, but feedback hopefully generates the possibility that the recipes at this restaurant get a little bit more work. Secondly, I didn't order the traditional American chinese food fare (i.e. General Tso, egg rolls, kung pao, etc.), so perhaps this review may come off as uneven. I ordered the Crispy Duck and the Peking Duck. So I was pretty dissappointed by both. First off the Peking Duck was dried - not sure if that's because I ordered delivery, but it was probably not cooked fresh to begin with (understandable, duck comes with expensive overhead if you are a small business), but still, my palate rejected the lack of succulent meat from the lack of duck fat, the lack of 'recently roasted' flavor and crispiness in the skin. For the crispy duck - this was my biggest dissappointment. Crispy duck, just to give context, comes from the Shanghai region (northern Chinese cuisine if you want to extrapolate that type of distinction) and the fact that Peking Wok implies northern chinese cuisine, I expected better. Basically the crispy duck from this restaurant was just a regular peking duck dipped in a fryer or a wok full of oil. How sad. It was fried too long and all dried out (once again, probably because it was a refrigerated peking duck to begin with). See pictures for what I mean. For more context, crispy duck from Shanghai has a light batter on the skin and if done well (fried lightly), the meat should still be succulent from the heated duck fat. It should not be an overly fried peking duck , which is what I got at Peking Wok. Very dissappointing. Either remove it from the menu or learn how to cook it properly to give proper respect to the dish as well as to the future customer who should be going to Peking Wok for a beneficial experience. read more

I rarely leave reviews on Yelp, but felt the need to leave one here. Let me start by saying the food is delicious but the customer service for call in orders is TERRIBLE!!! They are rude and seem to care less about getting business. I've called twice recently for pick up orders and both times had the same less than stellar experience. The lady answered the phone and said "hold please" (there was no introduction of the business) then a male comes to the phone to take the order and he talked so low that you could hardly hear him. After these 2 back to back experiences....I will chose another place for Chinese food. I mean how difficult is it to be polite to customers when they call to give you business? Not a lot of cream cheese and "crab" filling and whatever they are wrapped in was tough and hard to chew. Same with egg rolls. Weak filling and tough. Chicken had decent flavor but nothing I would go back for. Lo mein lacked vegetables and flavor. It's hard to find quality take out Chinese. These guys need to step it up. Had the egg roll (which was mostly cabbage), House Hot and Sour Soup was not spicy at all, had no scallops and the "crab meat" was artificial. Great food but service is not good. We waited for over 30 mins for one order. After no one came to our table we asked what the hold up was. The young girl told us the health inspection was there and had to close to kitchen for a few minutes. (This was during the middle of lunch time) we hadn't even gotten our soup yet. I asked if we could at least get the soup and they said ok, but I should not have had to ask that. After another ten mins they brought our food but did not offer a discount or anything to make up for the closed kitchen and time that we waited. Great food just needs better service read more

Food was average. Portions were small. Other places I usually have enough for lunch the next day. I got combination lo mein that was just noodles and very little meat. No veggies were found. Spicy chicken was very mild and seemed like a lunch portion. Fried rice substituted for steamed was extra charge. I've seen this at other places. Everything tasted ok. It just wasn't super great.
