This used to be a good place to eat, but the last several times I have eaten there the food has not been good. The hot and sour soup is horrible, nothing in it mostly some kind of brown thickish broth, bland. Today I ordered the chicken with garlic sauce which is advertised as spicy, should be, it came in a watery sweet reddish liquid. As you can see I posted a raving review 8 years ago. We have slowly watched this business deteriorate. We have since moved out of town, but over the last year we hoped for improvements. Sadly to say, taking away the sushi was the last straw. The food also was not the same taste or quality of years gone by. I do hate leaving this review. This place was one of my five top Asian restaurants. Came here around 7:30 on a Saturday evening. I was dining solo and I wanted to eat inside. I was told at the door that my wait would be long because of the amount of call in orders. I reiterated that I was dining in. Maybe I'm in the wrong, but imo, if someone goes out of their way to dine in your establishment, shouldn't they get waited on in between call in orders? I posted two years ago how good the food was. I ordered the salt and pepper chicken lunch today and it was the worst chicken dish I've ever had. The batter on the chicken had no flavor whatsoever. Like fried flour and starch. The egg rolls tasted like they were previously frozen, tough and chewy. The fried rice was bland. Even my fortune cookie had a blank fortune. Maybe just my unlucky day! Quite possibly the worst Chinese food I've ever had in my life! We went for the sushi but there was a sign on the door when we got there saying no sushi! I ended up getting honey chicken, fried rice and a spring roll.. my daughter got sesame chicken, lo mein noodles and a spring roll. Every bit of it was stale, sticky and had the faintest taste of shrimp!! It's like they stored a bunch of left over food in a fridge with old seafood!! I wasn't able to eat any of it..I tried loading everything down with soy sauce but nothing helped.. so we got to go boxes to take it to my dog! I'm not one to complain or even leave reviews but this place was so bad I feel like people need to know! I wanted to like this place a lot. Hibachi streak ordered medium rare and received very well done. Parts of my steak was so tough, I had to spit out. Hot and sour soup is ok, but very gelatinous. Weird to taste. Really good basic "Chinese food". (Usual American stuff), Kung Pao chicken was really good. Hot and Sour was weird and gelatinous. I will report back with sushi. read more

Given City shut down temporarily out of an abundance of precaution last year, but reopened with an amazing wooden apparatus built into their door that allowed great pickup transactions while ensuring customer and staff safety. As for the food, it's great! I love their sushi and it's always fresh. The lunch combos give enough food for two meals really. And customer service is always top notch! read more

The food sucks it is old tasting the only thing I liked was the dumplings! Me and my mom were gonna get sushi but there was a sign on the door that said no sushi! I got lo main noodles, sesame chicken, and the dumplings! It tasted old gross and it was sticky! The noodles tasted like they were stored in with old seafood... Went this evening and tried something new that was absolutely out of this world Lemon Chicken.. Chicken Breast was breaded and fried to a golden brown sliced into strips on a bed of lettuce and the lemon dipping sauce was to die for... served with bowl of fried rice. I strongly recommend the Lemon Chicken... but it's all good. read more

My experience at Golden City has been up and down. I love the vegetable fried rice and its portion. The chicken as of late has been over cooked and hard. One of the best Seseme Chicken dishes I've had in a long time. Crunchy chicken in a lot of glaze. If you order this togo it won't be as good because of the steam in the box. Order and eat at the restaurant for best experience. I also had the Mongolian chicken sauteed in yum yum sauce and grilled onions and peppers. It was very tender and tasty. The chicken had a slight char flavor even though it wasnt burt or had any black spots. Delish! Both lunches came with a choice of soup, eggroll, and white or fried rice. Great great meal for $6.95. Absolutely my favorite place to eat in Chelsea, and the best Asian cuisine I've ever eaten! The food is delicious - I've tried so many menu items and each time I've been very impressed! Plus, the people are all so friendly; the chef even comes out to say hi and meet/greet folks with a big smile! Also, we often place large "to-go" orders, and to our surprise, a complimentary order of Crab Rangoon and/or Chinese Donuts is included with our order!
