My Park This park is not just good, it is really great. It doesn't have a beach.. not even a lake. It does have seclusion, like in the woods. It does pack a wide range of goods. This park is quiet, with many a tree. I am so alone, I can take a pee. Or walk, run and even sing... No one can find me or bother me, not a single thing. I come here in the morning, and even run in the dark. I am the Duke, This is My Park.

I guess it's a park ... there are a few picnic tables by a parking area, and another one or two further into the walk that goes up the canyon and into an AH neighborhood. Sometimes you get the local youth sitting around on the tables obsessing about life. Dog walkers and exercisers walk the path pretty regularly, and a tiny stream runs through it, bringing the sound of frogs in the spring. Update as of 6/10/13: The signs restricting access the park and declaring it a Hazardous Fire area were up for about 2 weeks, and have vanished. There hasn't been any rain in the interim, so who knows why they went up or down. Canyon is dry but it's still a nice little walk through the neighborhood.

This park is like a little forest. There's a small stream and its right next to a Rite Aid. It was very green when I went.

I met up with a friend that I hadn't seen for awhile and it was the perfect place to catch up during a walk around of the garden. I loved the pond with the lily pads and turtles, and the Heritage House surrounded by orange trees and roses. I was impressed by the amount of orange trees. It reminds you of why they call it Orange County. If I went to school here I'd be here probably once a week. Otherwise it's great to come if you live in the OC.

From the parking lot it was easy to follow the signs along to the garden. The garden had areas that represented Woodlands, Mediterranean, Dessert, and a Cultivated Collection. There were walking paths but I still recommend closed toed shoes since it's a bit sandy. They had many benches throughout for resting or handing out and admiring nature. We spent about an hour here, but to be fair I'm not that into nature. I GOT A BUG BITE and it swelled and was super itchy. Sigh. I think someone who super loved nature or wanted to take their time to hang out could take 2-3 admiring all the plant life. My FAVORITE moments here was when we came across wildlife. My favorite were the rabbit, turtle, and crane. It's beautiful. Great spot to get some steps in and absorb some sunlight.

There are trails to access different parts of the lake. Many people circle around the lake or fish recreationally. Signs around the lake continue to prohibit feeding the wildlife. I'm happy with the pictures I took, but I can still improve. The experience was decompressing with sounds of flowing creek water and birds chirping all around the air.

Parking is easy with a large lot right next to the lake, opposite of the lake are some hiking trails if you have more time. It's a nice loop going around with some different areas along the way such as a small creek, reeds near the shore, and some water works that looks like they have been turned off or no longer function. Even in Winter there are a lot of different birds around. My kids loved following and chasing the large pelicans in the lake. You can fish here and there are children's fishing competitions. Just keep in mind to have a permit because when we went there was a police officer checking and ticketing people.
