There was a little push back when we asked for 8pc of shrimp, we are cooking for 2 and didn't need a half pound or pound. We were staying in the area during our family beach trip. My sister had suggested doing an evening of seafood and this place popped up on my Yelp search. We decided to give this place a try and I sent my sister of the request to get. My sister ordered some snow crab legs, scallops, crawfish, and shrimp. They were raw but offered to boil it for additional $ per pound (be sure to ask before ordering/making assumptions). My sister then stopped by the Food Lion to pick up some corn, old bay spice, butter, and some potatoes. OMG - the outcome was delicious (thanks to my sister chef!). The seafood was delicious, but my only complaint would be the crawfish. It wasn't bad, but my dad had always told me that if it's not a crawfish buffet, you might want to pass on that because if you're paying by the pound...you're going to be paying extra for all the shell they have. Totally agree with him, you can order other seafood choices that do not have 95% shell and 5% seafood meat on them. If you're here at the beach and need to get some fresh seafood, this is the place to get some! read more

I was excited to try this place when reading reviews but it was absolutely disgusting. The fried shrimp was cooked in old oil and cooked so long it was like rubber. One bite and couldn't even swallow it. Wasted $60 on plates that were not edible. Tried to salvage by drowning in sauce but the old oil taste was so overpowering. We stop here multiple times every time we visit Oak Island! We usually order the shrimp and have it steamed before taking it to go. They'll steam it up quick and put Old Bay on it if you want it. We paid $11.99/pound for medium peeled and deveined shrimp. The large peeled and deveined are $14.99/pound. I'm sure the price may change based on the market. They'll charge $2 to steam it, but it's worth it! The shrimp is so fresh and delicious. They have so many options available including boil pots with corn and potatoes, fried platters, steamed items, etc. We will definitely continue visiting Pelican Seafood! read more

My family and I came here for a late lunch today around 130 PM today. Take out only. There was no wait and the owners were very friendly and answered all our questions. We wanted to get the crab cake but that was not available due to Covid. Instead, we got 2 Deep fried oyster plates and two deep fried softshell crab plates. Each oyster plates had nine good size oysters plus you get two sides. We got coleslaw and potato salad for 3 plates and one plate with hush puppies and cole slaw. The softshell crab plates came with two decent size crabs + 2 sides also. Your side choices are: hush puppies, fries, coleslaw, potato salad. Our plates were made to order quikly and were piping hot. Super delicious! My daughter and in laws like the oysters better than the soft shell crab. I enjoyed both very much. The only thing I would suggest is some sliced lemon to flavor the oysters and crabs and cocktail sauce for dipping. Tartar sauce was provided but those are more for fish plate. Bottom line, I highly recommend this place for seafood lovers! They also have fresh seafood for purchase and to make it at home read more

They have breading, hush puppy mix, etc. They had a 95 sanitary rating and seemed clean. We ordered fried scallops, shrimp, oysters and grouper. They came with fries and slaw. My family and I were in from out of town and went by in person to pay ahead and order our food pick up for the next day at 4:00 pm. We ordered a pile of seafood $145 worth. The young lady helping us was friendly at the time, but never once mentioned that you can not pre-order fried food, which a small portion of our order was. When my husband went in to pick up the order, the owner started out saying I wish your wife would have picked up like she was supposed to yesterday. We do not pre-order fried food. That was the first time that had been referenced. My husband came out and got me to confirm what we were told and the owner was very combative right off the bat saying we were told that. My husband, myself, and my son were in there when we ordered the food and could all swear and guarantee we were never told that. I simply asked they he then refund the money for my fried food portion since there was obviously a miscommunication and that was not expressed to us when ordering. He refused and threw our full order on the counter and said there it is take it and get out of here. I said no, I do not want the food from yesterday as that is not what I ordered. I wanted it fresh as promised on Sunday at 4. He again said there is your food - take it and leave. We left and left the food there. I'm not sure if we caught this "friendly" family on a bad day, but the customer service experience was horrible. They were not willing to make up for a miscommunication on their part when we ordered our food. There was never any explanation on not pre-ordering fried food. Be fully made aware beforehand if you are going there for fried food! Huge disappointment as we had been told all kids of great things about this place and was really looking forward to our good family seafood dinner. read more

The fried red snapper ,fried flounder,fried shrimp were definitely a good pick and we enjoyed it. The only problem we had was with the fried oysters they were too salty. This is a seafood market that also sells sandwiches and grub! Since I did not purchase any fresh seafood to take home, I cannot comment on its merits in that regard. But I will say a few words about its fish and chips. We ordered the mahi fish and chips and not only was it reasonably priced ($7.99) the pieces of fish were lightly breaded and fried to perfection. The pieces had been cut small which was perfect for my small children, who normally don't eat fried fish but devoured these. We also ordered Cole slaw in substituting fries for a few of the orders ---now we know to just add a thing of Cole slaw on the side and just keep the fries. It seems they have a good method of frying their fish and the meal tasted very fresh and not heavily salted, which surprised my parents. We would come here again to try something else!
