This family owned and operated seafood market has provided fresh seafood to the Oak Island/ Southport area for over 15 years. They have a wide variety of high-quality seafood options from shrimp to grouper to oysters to sea bass to everything in between. Currently, they are not letting customers inside due to COVID-19. They have set up a tent outside the store for customers to wait under and the staff will come out to take/bring you your order. Unfortunately, we happened to come on a very rainy day, so it wasn't a pleasant wait. We ordered a pound of 21/25 shrimp and wanted a pound of Black Drum, but they didn't have enough left, so we got pound of Flounder instead. We waited a long time for them to come out with our seafood, the fish is cut to order but we noticed people who arrived much later than us getting their orders and leaving. When we brought it to the attention of the staff it seemed sadly our bag got lost under a box inside. They were very apologetic and actually gave us what they had left of the Black Drum for free for the inconvenience. Their fresh cut filets and shrimp were reasonably priced, delicious, and easy to cook. It made for an simple yet delicious (honestly multiple) meals at home. We loved having local seafood dishes of shrimp cocktail and baked fish for our Valentine's Day dinner. read more

THE OYSTERS ARE INCREDIBLE! If you haven't been to Haag Seafood yet, definitely make a trip to check them out. Not only were they giving free raw oyster samples at the door, but the staff was so incredibly energetic and friendly that it makes me wonder why I've been going anywhere else to get my seafood. I live in Wilmington, and will gladly be making the hour trip to get my seafood every time I'm having a hankering from now on. We bought a half bushel of Top Sail oyster clusters and eagerly brought them home to: wash, steam, and shuck. We had a group of 5 people and, even then, were only able to make it through half of what we bought. The quality was superb, the service was spectacular, and I couldn't recommend them higher to anyone looking for a new place to get fresh seafood. When on vacation in oak island, we wanted to try our hand at grilling some fish and shrimp at our verbo house. We passed this little market on the way to a grocery store and let's just say I'm glad we turned around and got our provisions here. I was so absolutely out of my element, but the staff their guided this novice exceptionally. I didn't know what golden tile was before I walked in, but now I rank it among my favorite fish. Kind of a blind purchase as you are NOT allowed in the store and give your order to a guy that is not very helpful unless your a local and regular customer. Not being able to actually see what your buying is not my thing when it comes to buying fresh fish and meat. We got some red snapper ( which was excellent) and some crab cakes( meh, overpriced and a little fishy tasting and no lumps) . Not all of the fresh fish may be local - might have been shipped to them from up or down the coast. Great selection from Fresh Swordfish to Triggerfish. Some of the more popular items sell out quickly, so if you see it and want it, you had better get it or reserve some. You can even call up and have them hold some for you. Bought some shrimp for the grill my first trip. Had a choice between Local NC Shrimp for $14.99 per pound or similar size from Argentina for $7.99 per pound. Went with the NC ones and didn't regret it. Marinated in oil, garlic, salt and pepper then grilled them. They had a nice layer of back fat that self-basted them - soooo good!! Prices were reasonable, especially compared to restaurant retail prices. Clean store and friendly people eager to help! read more

You can watch them filet your fish, Its not sitting already prepared in a display case. The staff is courteous and very helpful great for describing and recommending from the list of the day's catch. Look for the specials on a separate board....We tried Hog Fish which had been spear caught by a local fisherman that day and it was delicious. If my wife needs cooking guidance they give it (I grew up near Cape Cod, she didn't). Always helpful and if you don't see what you want, always ask. You never know what's out back.
