My rating is actually 4 and one-half but I had so much fun here that I will give it five stars. This is definitely not your all-American plastic corporate chain motel. I would describe the rooms as pleasantly garish. My room was clean and I would not call it run down. But it is an old, historic building. So the word I would use is "funky." Free access to the mineral baths is a great amenity. The only quibble is that there was no soap, bar or liquid, in the room. I had to buy my own. I love this place! It's honestly my favorite place to drive to from Los Angeles and just unwind for days. The rooms are colourful and fun and the tubs are self fill and clean. The Pelican Spa is a classic standby. It gives major hostel feels with communal area where the spa is located. It's dated, quirky, ramshackle and brightly colored. It's also extremely affordable, spacious, pet friendly and conveniently located to everything in walking distance. The rooms are each loosely themed, eclectic and have kitchens which is super helpful as T or C doesn't have many options for food. There is always a couple bugs and wifi can be very spotty. Wifi didn't actually work in Red Pelican but it is clean where it counts and the AC worked like a champ. Overall, I find the Pelican endearing, the baths are relaxing and it's the most affordable spot in town. read more

Arbitrary/creative billing. When I needed to change out reservation, I was billed $10 even though I gave them over a weeks notice. The manager, Rebecca informed me that the policy was "always" in place, but NOW she is deciding to enforce it. Specifically, she said SHE was deciding to enforce it because she is now the manager. Good luck with that. We used to love this place, but like all things, change is in the air. As with many places, their prices have increased. The people who work there used to seem very happy, welcoming, and people that I wanted to look forward to visiting again. NOW, not so much. The accommodations are rustic, and quirky...and never wet especially clean. The main thing it had going for it was the personal touch that made this place worth visiting. So much for that. We are giving two stars only because once upon a time we loved this place. The two stars are for the past experience. My wife and I had stayed before over at the Pink Pelican, and it was okay but also worrisome as the front door didn't shut completely. So we went and bought a security door jam to make sure the door couldn't be opened. We stayed during the late summer, so the soaking tubs were available most anytime we wanted. My wife and I needed a get away from the cold in Colorado, and travelled down to a warmer climate and to enjoy the soaking tubs again at the end of December. This time we stayed in the PAM rooms and our room had a kitchenette which was nice. The room(s) are in the style of an old time motor lodge, so the bathroom and kitchen area are small, bit overall, roomy. So here's the negative comment. With all the buildings the Pelican Spa owns, it offers 32 rooms. So let's say most rooms are rented with 2 people, so that's a total of 64 people. The Pelican has only 4 soaking tubs and 1 larger tub. The tubs can also be used by outside guests for a fee. You cannot reserve a tub, as it is a first come, first served for guests and you can soak as long as you want. So the odds of getting a tub are not that great, and that is hugely disappointing, especially if that is why you cam to the Spa. Our last day and we though maybe a soak in the morning before heading home. My wife went first and could not use the tubs as she felt uncomfortable. Seems 'friends' of somebody at the Spa let them sleep in the common area over night. My wife encountered someone still sleeping on a couch, kids running around, and a women in one of the tub rooms coughing significantly. My wife left, of course. So in our 3 night stay, my wife and I got 1 soak each. Not great. If you want quirky and funky, the Pelican Spa is your place to stay. But be aware you may not get to use the tubs as planned, and know that the rooms are older. It is what it is. read more

We just stayed at the Pelican Spa in the Aqua room, because it has a private soak tub. You still have to wait to fill your tub, no other tubs in the whole spa can fill at the same time. The room was disgusting, with grime every where, gross old containers under the bathroom sink (which was an old stove, wtf), dust globs in ceiling vents, and impractical furniture. Bed, sheets and pillows were all very uncomfortable, we were worried about bed bugs based on the cleanliness of the whole facility. The accommodations themselves were fine, cute and funky motel vibe. This is not a luxury hotel, it's a funky place that with a quirky hippy feel, bright colors, eclectic decor, etc. Yes, things are old and worn out but clean and met our basic needs. What was super weird and downright unpleasant was the customer service at front desk. My daughter and I went to soak and the lady at the front desk told us there was a wait of half an hour because only one tub (out of 4) could be filled at a time. We were also told it was "first come first serve" but there didn't seem to be a good way that this was being tracked. I could tell by the lack of noise that no tubs were currently being filled, but nonetheless I went to sit in the courtyard to wait. The lady waiting ahead of me was having a super loud convo on her cell while smoking, which was rude and off-putting to say the least. 10 minutes later I saw another couple walk straight into one of the soaking rooms. I brought this us with the lady at the front desk who pretended to not know what I was talking about and who kept repeating that it was first come first serve. I asked her how I was supposed to know when it was my turn and she didn't have a good answer, again she repeated "first come first serve". She also told me she was busy and had too many phone calls and other things to do so she couldn't keep track of who was next or who was coming and going. SO SKETCHY. Finally I just decided to linger inside and then she offered us a soaking room but said we couldn't turn it on until the others were done (that included the couple that walked in after us, who were somehow allowed to turn on their water first). We ended up waiting over 45 minutes total. I had to guess and listen to understand when i was "allowed" to turn on my water. The final kicker was at the end when my daughter and I were talking quietly in our soaking room getting ready to leave and the front desk lady stood by our door and told us to keep our voices down. Within a minute or two she started LOUDLY laughing and joking with another guest right outside our room. way louder than we were talking. This lady was so unprofessional and seemed to be on some weird power trip. I heard her being condescending to another guest even saying "please repeat what I just told you" with attitude. She is not meant to be in the service industry, she ruined my and my family's experience. The soak itself was otherwise fine, though there is a slightly moldy smell to the bathhouses which was off putting. I would not stay there again, the other place i have stayed were clean and more affordable. read more

We saw this hotel on a third party site and booked it for 3 primary reasons: 1) it was affordable, 2) it had lots of good reviews, and 3) the rooms with different themes and bright colors looked fun. When we arrived to check in, the front desk lady was kind and helpful. But then we got to the room. What looked bright and fun in the pictures online, looked old, worn-out, and threadbare in person. It felt like a hotel room that was many decades old and instead of being kept up and maintained, it was painted-over with bright paint. We didn't want to put our things on the ground, the beds, the tables, or the counter. Everything felt like it was covered in dust and neglect. The shower drain had no cover, there were no baseboards, there were cracks in the drywall, there was a giant hole in the ceiling over the bed with some kind of blanket stuffed up in it. I spent some time trying to get the window and door coverings closed for a feeling of privacy but was unsuccessful. We felt like we were in a bright orange fish bowl in downtown Truth or Consequences. We spent a total of two minutes in the room and decided there was no way we could sleep there. I went back to the front desk lady and to her credit, she was busy doing laundry. I told her we weren't comfortable here and returned the key. I asked for our money back and she replied that she would have the manager call us in the morning. Fair enough. I'll wait for her call. She didn't call the next morning, so I called a few days later. The same front desk lady said the manager would call the following morning. She did not. I still await the manager's call. With or without the manager's follow-up, it is totally worth losing money not to subject my family to the experience we avoided by staying here. read more

Zero Stars!!! These incompetent jerks over booked me and left me on the streets of T or C with no place to sleep! I booked a room Tuesday, after I even called and talked to some punk named Matt. Matt told me he was the manager and wouldn't give me his last name! They kept blaming the booking agency for the problem, telling me that it's not their fault. I was ok with the overbooking, and I simply wanted them to help me find another hotel and possibly cover the difference! NOPE! Matt was a total rude jerk, and told me he was at home and didn't want to deal with the problem! I am so disappointed. At the lack of professionalism these kids have. A friend and I stayed in the teal room here and it was really nice! For a reasonable price, we had a huge suite with a kitchen. We used the hot spring tub, which wasn't exactly what we expected. You go into a room and draw a bath from hot spring water and then sit in the bath tub. The springs were nice, but nothing super special. I was lucky to get a room for the night when traveling through during spring break. This was both a good thing but also bad. The tubs are first come first served. Even so I was able to get a soak that night, but not without having to lurk in the hallway waiting for a bath to become available. It looked like they were short staffed and were too busy to help their guests and they ran out of towels. The baths are funky, cement tubs about 7-8' long. The water is fabulously hot and you can soak as long as you want. I'm withholding a star as the whole place was a bit run down, the pillows smelled of somebody else's sweat, and everything (especially the tubs) could use a little more elbow grease. I didn't enjoy feeling the slime on the walls of the tub and visible grime on the floor :-( read more

I don't really want to tell you about this place,however, I want them to stay open for business, so here's to letting the cat out of the bag. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I needed a place to stay in T or C and luckily when I called them, they had an available room. Initially, I booked the Pink Pelican #3, however, when I showed up, I discovered the kitchen was not really a kitchen for this unit, as there was no stove. After settling into this room, I went over to the main part of the hotel with my veggies and I was ready to start cooking. The receptionist of the hotel was around and seeing that I was interested in cooking but was in a unit without a stove, she kindly transferred me to PAM #5. PAM #5 was equipped with a full kitchen which included a stove, fridge and basic cooking utensils. This unit also has a nice living area, a comfy and spacious couch, and a large dining table that can be used for eating and doing work. The bathroom was fairly small, however, the water coming out of the shower seemed to feel like water from the hot springs, so that was refreshing. Overall, the room worked, but I would've liked it to be a bit cleaner as I did find dust bunnies throughout... What makes this place great is that while you stay here, all the hot springs soaks are included in the room rate. You can soak as many times as you like. Just note that each soak room is equipped with a tub and you fill the tub with hot springs water to your liking. The water is not on the surface like La Paloma. Towels and water are provided with each soak. Also, right now, there is an awesome special. For $40, you get 6 soaks. There is no time or person limit, so this is a great deal! If you buy a single soak, it is $8/person for 1/2 hour, so the $40 package is a much better deal. And if you're in town for longer, you can get the $80 package for 12 soaks. I will definitely be back for more soaks when I am back in T or C. A charming, economical and down to earth spot at the Pelican with very friendly and sweet staff including Angela and Arrow. Soak here! Unpretentious, yet comfortable!! Clean, well organized, eclectic, homey For 2 people $15 for 30 minutes. In the summer, you don't need more than 30 minutes. The private soaking rooms have enough space to change your clothes or go without. The bathroom, with toilet and super cool sink, is just outside the soaking rooms. A relaxation room across the hall is the perfect place to cool off after your soak. While we didn't stay at the motel, hotel, or apartments , we definitely would based on what we saw through the windows. It is super cute and creative and spread out over an entire block. T or C is pretty much a quarterly necessity for me. I like staying at the Pelican, it's a great spot to stay solo or with a significant other of you'll only be using the soaking tubs at this particular location. Pre covid, the way to do T or C is to stay anywhere and venture around the Hot Springs District and spread your time out making sure you get a chance to soak at all these great eccentric quaint New Mexican towns. I love it. The selection open during covid is sparse which is to be expected but I'm glad Pelican remains open to residents like me so I can get away to care for my mental health. At this point I've stayed in 3 different rooms at the Pelican and the selection of rooms is ample. You'll find everything for a cozy quick one night stay at a great price in the PAM (Pelican Apartment Motel) all the way to The Loft with ample space for social distancing, or big enough to have a party of 7 sleep comfortably, even more for a social gathering (when permitted by law of course). Pelicans tubs are single soak rooms and you fill the tubs individually each time which is nice when it comes to getting fresh clean mineral water. Pelican isn't always entirely quiet between the mellow 25mph Main St. traffic and the front desk being next to some of those front tubs (try one of the 3 tubs further back) but it's an easy fix with a pair of headphones, and some quiet meditation music. Great getaway when you need some time for you. They've had some staff changes over the year (2020) and I'm very glad to say that the staff have been nothing but helpful and welcoming since. Pelican is the spot for a great soak/stay on a budget and if your feeling like a cherry on top, i recommend a private soak at another location to bring it all full circle. Thank you Pelican Spa! P.S. For large groups there's not really a way to soak comfortably at their spa location, keep that in mind when considering The Loft. Also the beds in my experience are always fresh with sheets and a comfortable sleep, but a wipe down of a few other surfaces or rinsing of dishes might be needed. Not always and not often - but a possibility. But T or C is about the soak for me. If your looking for perfect upscale 5 star service you'll have to pay the price and maybe check out the Sierra Grande Lodge & Spa down the road. But if you're looking for an authentic experience I would lean towards The Pelican, and several other hot spring spots around town. Rooms are spread out within a block of the office - I got an overflow room - but even the farthest afield are only a 5 minute walk (or less) to the office and tubs. Kitchen was well-appointed, with a full size refrigerator, microwave, utensils, and coffee maker. Comfy bed, clean room. Funky? Yeah, in some particulars, but never dirty or worn out. Tubs are great: fill quickly and then drain after each user. Tub doubles as a place to shower (the shower head in my tub desperately needed to be de-mineralized; it had become almost useless). If you just NEED to spend another $30 or $70 on a room with hot soaks, there are places in town to do that. But if you save it by staying at the Pelican, you'll not be giving up cleanliness, convenience, or comfort, and you can spend the saved money at the excellent restaurant, Latitude 33, next door. read more

We drove into town late, or early, rather at 1 AM from Santa Fe. Feeling exhausted and craving a soak more than a tent set-up, my lovely traveling companion and I decided to call a number we found via Droid and spoke with a man about finding a room at one of the many T or C hot springs where we could soak at this hour. Thankfully, he suggested the Pelican Spa. We were given the one room with late-night access to soaking: The charming Aqua Room, with a large tub bottomed with concrete and sided by beautiful, artistic tile. All for $80 a night. This room is a vintage-lovers dream! The bathroom sink and counter is made of an old 50's syle oven, and the mirror over this is a true New Mexican gem. A stained-glass window, local artwork, native rug, pine wardrobe, and 50's vintage bedside table top off the aesthetic beautifully. There is a kitchen on-site where you can make scrumptious food, though the nearby Bellaluca is an Italian delicacy that offers brunch and allows for picky substitutions. Our car from Budget was a big FAIL, so we had to wait 7 hours for another to be transported from El Paso. And during our wait time, the kind ladies running the place offered for us to use one of the communal, though private, tubs. We obliged. There is a Zen, pebble-coated courtyard inside the wooden-gated perimeters and a beautiful yoga studio on site where they offer daily yoga classes. Also on-site is a large open-space with a comfy couch and retro artwork where you can relax and play games or mingle. Clean, unique, exotic resort spa, with a Bohemian feel in the midst of the artistic, friendly, quirky town of T or C. Dig it. read more

My sister and I stayed here on our way across country from CA to Maine. We absolutely loved it . It was such a joyful change from the standard hotel room. We stayed in the Turquoise suite. Such a beautiful color to wake up to in the morning. We used one of the tubs for a soak to restore our travel weary bodies and it totally did the trick. We had such a great time here, loved our "Blue Room". Very clean and comfortable. The staff was so very nice, helpful and just easy going it really made our visit better. Stayed in Pink Pelican Room #3 and the bed was HORRIBLE! It was loud and every time my boyfriend rolled over, it made noise. It was hard and uncomfortable. Are all the beds in all the rooms like this??? On the bright side, it was clean, well located, sunny, and colorful. In the AM we went to soak in the tubs, and the coffee was as bad as the bed. I couldn't be sure that the tubs had been cleaned since there was pile of yesterday's towels in the entryway. No one was in attendance in the AM. read more
