We checked out this chain awhile back, and here's my take…read more The place itself is very spacious, with a fun, black and white Halloween motif...with its take on its name "Vampire Penguin". I noticed this is a national chain founded by Filipino brothers. Service was very friendly, and the treats were delivered fairly quickly. As for their shaved snow selection, it was quite extensive...though I was disappointed with the flavors (too many chocolate-based). Sadly, there were more disappointments...for me at least. I say that because I've been to many shaved snow cafes throughout the states...many in Koreatowns and Japantowns. This chain seems to offer a more Americanized (or Filipino?) version of shaved snow...with American-friendly flavors (lotsa chocolate, vanilla, strawberry cheesecake, and such). No Matcha, Ube, or any of the more traditional Asian flavors that I've come to expect. Also, unlike the East Asian versions, these shaved snow desserts were VERY skimpy with the toppings (just a few pieces of pineapple and boba in mine...and few chocolate pieces in my husband's). Way too skimpy for its price points. After all, the dessert itself is basically textured water with flavored sauce and toppings. In short, we're paying for the toppings. Lastly, the presentation was very disappointing...just this super-messy drizzle? Just look at the sloppy Snickers flavored one...possibly the worst presentation of Shaved Snow I've seen to date! Fortunately, for majority of folks coming in here, this is sure to be a novelty. Plus, most are likely to be non-Asians...so these Americanized versions of shaved snow, with its American-friendly flavors may be perfectly fine! Even my husband didn't mind...since he loved Snickers flavor! For me, unfortunately, it was just disappointing...because I'm used to the generous East Asian versions, with different flavors and way more toppings. Just being frank here. Still, it's good to have at least one shaved snow eatery in town...so it's a welcome addition to Rock Hill.
