I had Pell Solar do my solar installation about 2 months ago. It was a super smooth process, and everything went exactly as Josh stated it would. He was easy to communicate with and answered all of my questions (since this is a big purchase I wanted to make sure I really understood some of the nuances). My solar was installed in a timely manner (according to the timeline Josh originally gave me). After installation they were here for the city's inspection and taught me how to monitor the system on the app. So far the production has been great and I'm looking forward to watch the production go up even more as we get into the summer months. My wife and I had our solar panels installed by this company in the spring of 2024. From day one we have had terrible experiences with this company. It has taken nearly a year to get the panels and system working properly. On top of all that, we have been treated with terrible disrespect by the owner of the company. Be prepared for them to ignore emails and phone calls. If you do get in contact with them, they will treat you with more disrespect than you would think is possible. When pressed on concerns, they passed the blame to the manufacturer of the panels. The manufacturer of the panels actually had to come to our home and double check the work this company did. Pell Solar blamed the issues on Enphase, but it turned out that the system was installed incorrectly by Pell. Please go with a well-established operation. I shopped around to about 5 different vendors, including SunPower (I believe) who contracts through Costco and Pell was thousands cheaper. Shaun was so incredibly thorough, honest (there were points where he told me that because of my super low energy costs in Azusa, the system really wasn't necessary) and over-communicated throughout the process. I've recommended him to family in the area. Big fan. I ended up moving to it honestly because I wanted the future equity addition to the home and...because I thought it was badass to have solar :) We had issues with my HOA and the city of Azusa (confusion on their ends) and his team handled the months of back and forth with ease and grace. However, the owner, Josh, is nothing short of completely unprofessional, rude, and an angry person. As we all do, I did my research, got quotes from most of the big solar companies, then spoke to Shaun and loved his honesty. Broke down the value of solar, and how it works best. Helped us understand the whole process and it being such a big investment, I felt Shaun was the right person to make the deal with. Their prices were among the lowest when comparing them with the bigger solar companies, loan and rates were also great. We signed, and waited through the process, all was great up until the install. Things went down hill when Shaun asked if I or my wife could contact SCE to have them unlock our meter (for those who don't know, anything SCE implies hours of wait time on the phone)....For the amount of money I paid for the system, it was unbelievable that he would ask me or my wife to make any calls, we also didn't have the time so we didn't. Very Lazy office personnel was the first red flag. On the scheduled install day Shaun gave me, they were a no show. They forgot to schedule me in. Panels got installed: I have tile roofing and their guys were very careless, jumping and playing around on top of the tiles. I work from home and watched as one of the guys jumped on the roofing over the garage in front of my office window. (2 story home). I recently found 2 other broken roofing tiles where the installer jumped, pretty sure at this point they wont cover those tiles. When all was done I was told the panels were producing and now the inspection and permission to operate was the next step. Shaun also mentioned that the APP would be functioning to monitor energy production. For a week the panels were shut off and the APP was not functioning correctly. The downhill continued...before the system and app were even functioning properly, they were pushing to have me sign the completion form so they can process the loan and get paid. However, they failed to mention the panels were not operating and the APP was still not working. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL. Spoke to Shaun and he got the solar panels on but APP was still not working. Out of curiosity I decided to go up to the roof to see how things looked. SURPRISE! I found at least 11 roofing tiles missing and a couple others cracked but they kept pushing to get me to sign the completion form without telling me the job was not done yet or that i was now missing roofing tiles. Spoke to Shaun...he has someone stop by when its dark to install the new tiles. I check the next morning and TILES WERE DARK GRAY WHILE MY TILES WERE LIGHT ORANGE. I call Shaun and tell him and says their field guy told him I was ok with the roofing tiles being a completely different color(THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN HAD I KNOWN I WOULD'VE EXPRESSED THAT I WAS NOT OK WITH DARK GRAY ROOFING TILES ON MY ROOF). Shaun says, well we could just hide the dark gray roofing tiles under the solar panels were no one will see them...really? 2nd time they said they would install something close to what I already had but at the end they managed to install the same type of roofing tile as the ones my roof had. Then the push to sign the completion form came again, but the APP was still not functioning properly. Shaun also failed to mention that it can take anywhere from 30-90 days for SCE to approve my system and grant the permission to operate. Meaning....double electric bill until the permission to operate is approved. This is already a long review, I will refrain from sharing the rest of the unpleasant experience just for times sake. Overall, it was an untrustworthy and dishonest experience I am really hoping their warranty process is better should my system need of Pell Solar in the future. read more

Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference in solar companies. We were very fortunate to find Pell Solar in Ontario, Ca and worked with the General Manager, Aaron Imamura. We interviewed 4 solar companies two via the Internet presentations and two in person before we selected Pell Solar. The other companies wanted to sell us back up systems, or offer special incentives if we would sign with them. Later we found out the incentives were listed on their website for anyone who wanted to install their system. Our roofer recommended Pell Solar. What I like about Aaron is that he had our best interest in mind in setting up our system. To give you an example, we live in an HOA complex with 118 units and there is not much difference in the size of the three style model homes and their construction. Aaron who is very knowledgeable with the various systems took the time to evaluate our current electrical circuit breaker maxima rating, and made the effort to go to the city and confirmed it could be unutilized without any need to upgrade our current electrical system. At the same time, two other neighbors were in the process of installing a solar system for their homes. Both owners had identical style homes with less over all solar system capacity from what we were installing. One neighbor used a different company and ended up having their electrical panel upgraded. The other neighbor who I referred to use Pell Solar used their current system and saved the cost of upgrading their electrical system. I might note that the neighbor with the new updated electrical system could not close the door to the circuit board breaker because the meter installed had a larger glass meter cover. This neighbor ended up having the frame extended out from wall in order to accommodate for the larger meter glass dome. The other important point was the placement of the solar panels to get the most efficient use from the panels. One of the companies we interviewed with wanted to put all the panels on our flat roof. I was surprised because I did not like the idea of placing the panels in the back of our home with less solar access and an 81 foot pine tree that would cast a shadow. I was fortunate to have an Aurora Shade Report from one of the other companies we interviewed, which showed the best locations were on the pitched roofs in the front and back side of our home. Aaron understood this and built a solar plan that would get the highest solar access. He mentioned the worst placement would be the flat roof since it collects more dirt and requires cleaning on a regular scheduled basis. Moreover, our roof is a TPO covered roof that reflects the sunlight and keeps our home cooler in the summer time. There is a life time warranty on the material and you do not want to penetrate the roof TPO material, since it would void the roof warranty. Also, if you had to install solar panels on the flat roof there is an additional cost to seal the echelon plates by sealing the lag screws through mount and flashing into the underlying rafters. Here you are talking about spending thousands of addition dollars. Aaron provided a solar plan with 10 panels on our front garage roof and 16 on the back side of the pitched roof. Unfortunately our HOA came into play and they approved both of my neighbors systems. One with 15 panels on the back pitched roof and the other home with 24 panels on the front roof facing the street. In our case, we were denied for a lack of information. But in reality the HOA did not want any panels on the garage roofs and tried to make us place them on the flat roof. I'm writing this review because Aaron went through numerous telephone calls and meetings with the board members and in person to make them aware of the California Civic Code 714.b regarding solar installations. He was very diligent in working for us by protecting our rights in what the board could and could not do. Long story short, 3 months later it took one letter from our attorney to turn around this situation and not having to place any panels on the flat surface. I was finally given the authorization letter from the HOA with conditions of panel placement, which I reviewed with Aaron and he saw there was going to be additional cost to add a 4th array, but stated he would cover the cost to get the project completed. Pell Solar tried to layout the panels per the HOA wishes but due to clearances that are required by building code for the city and putting one panel in complete shade they are unable to layout the panels per the HOA request. Pell Solar finalized drawings putting 6 panels on one roof and 4 on the other roof. If you are looking for a solar company that is going to work with you and has your best interest in mind, plus an experienced crew that are competent and proficient in their job, I highly recommend, Pell Solar. We had a solar salesperson going door to door in the neighborhood (not Pell) and decided to make an appointment. After our meeting we were interested in solar but not with this particular company as they nearly refused to even explain a Power Purchase Agreement and we felt their pricing was high. After researching Yelp, we settled on Pell Solar and arranged a meeting. Sandra came and met with us, explained everything (including a PPA which we decided against) and they ended up being about 25% more affordable with comparable quality and warranties. Sandra also explained how Pell would help us arrange the most beneficial contract with Edison, and how the installation process would be minimally invasive to our current roof should we ever decide to revert. With such clear and concise information, we felt we were in good hands. Shortly after, we had a third company come to our door who wanted the opportunity to bid on the project. As it was a veteran run company we decided one more estimate wouldn't hurt. They toted made in the USA panels and extensive warranties, but they must've missed the foreign cars in our driveway and their warranty wasn't even as long as the first two companies.... Once I checked the companies Yelp reviews I opted to cancel our appointment. They called me several times a week to pressure me into meeting with them despite being firm we had chosen to go with Pell. It wasn't until the panels were installed they finally left me alone. Needless to say, Pell was our knight in solar armor. The competitive pricing, honest and open communication, no pressure sales tactics, and helpfulness before/during/after install was all we could have hoped for. Our panels have been producing awesome, we just pay a ~$15/month connection fee and that's it. We run lights and AC whenever we please (which has saved me from constantly running around to turn off lights) and as an added bonus: when the solar salesperson at Costco asks me if I'm interested in solar I can say "I already have solar" and they leave me be! What more could I ask for!! I will say our tax refund wasn't as high as estimated but we didn't expect it to be, we would have gone solar without any refund though. Our panels cost less than our electric bill, we can use power freely, and our homes value has gone up. Winning all around. Went with Shaun Rodgers at Pell Solar for our 13.7Kwh system just under a year ago. Compared them to a couple of national companies and several local ones. The national companies were over priced, had way too many bad reviews, and sub-contracted everything. The local companies were all very close in price, reviews, expertise, and warranties. However, Pell had the best combination of those, and Shaun was able customize the system to the size we needed, using the hardware we preferred, for a low price. We wanted a zero electric bill and we got it (except for $15 a month we can't offset no matter what). Not just zero at the end of the year, but negative every month. We even asked him to anticipate the addition of pool equipment, which he did. Pool equipment installed, and we are still negative. Even if the output declines by 15% over 25 - 30 years, we will still probably end up being negative or at least breaking even. That is how you plan and engineer a solar system. Exactly what we wanted. Our install was right at the pinnacle of the pandemic distribution problems, so our panels took almost 2.5 months to arrive, but otherwise the system would have been installed in less than a month after signing the contract. Pell recently completed a 11.5 KW solar installation on my Norco home. I worked with Shaun from beginning to end. He, as well as the various other Pell employees showed up (or called) when they said they would, performed as expected, and answered questions patiently. It wasn't quick, but it proceeded at the rate Shaun had told me to expect (actually, it was slower, but solely due to me changing my mind a couple times).
