I go to pema every two weeks and I love it! They are incredibly kind and personable. I always get a great manicure, in a good amount of time for a fair price. They also give very good massages. I made an appointment for a quick pedicure and the women who took care of me did such a great job!! The place has a lot of character and you can tell that everyone working there are very close--telling jokes and lots of giggling! It was a very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Excellent customer service. Sanitation is a big priority for them. Tools are pre-wrapped and sanitized. Foot scraper has disposable pads. Footbath is lined with disposable liner. Staff is wearing masks. Service was great. The leg and foot massage during the pedicure was so lovely, and I got a quick shoulder massage while my toes were drying also! The pedicure came out great! The place is small and quaint but they make good use of the space. Minus one star because there were gnats flying around me while my toes were being painted. Terrible people ! I come to this place cos I thought they were nice and trustworthy and affordable for someone like me on a budget . I got a Wax which she charge me $30. I know Gel isn't that much more expensive than a regular pedicure. After everything is done , The owner charge me $90 in total for cash since they won't be charging me tax but when I question her about the total , instead of taking accountability she tried covering herself with more lies that the price have change, that it's different from the internet , Smh . I'm a customer of Pema's nails for about 20 years. I really love this place and I wouldn't trust going to any other nail salon.  The boss is a very friendly, funny and welcoming lady. The girls that are working there are very nice and most importantly very detailed doing their job. My favorite is Pasang. When I do my regular manicure people ask me if had a gel manicure. Their message services are also really good especially at the times I feel some body pain. You must give the place a try. They do not know how to do nails at all. I paid $21 for a pedicure plus $3 more than generous tip equaling $24 total. The regular price for a pedicure is $18 and was told I need to be charged $5 extra for choosing an Essie gel couture polish which is not even an actual gel polish... (Mind you I could have done actual gel polish for $15 Groupon at Brandmerk Salon a block away.) The lady had already made me take off my shoes and sit in the pedicure seat so I told her to match the color for me then. Instead of charging $5 she bargained to charge $3 so I agreed because she was too lazy to actually get a couple of options for me. That by itself threw me off, I am not used to having to bargain to get my nails done and it is definitely not professional. I told her to do a square shape for my toe nails and they are no where near the shape I wanted. I could have done a WAY better job by myself. She put 2 coats of the polish on my feet without any base coat when I asked why I am not getting a base coat she said the nail polish itself has a base coat.... After applying 2 coats, her work was very patchy and looked like a 3rd grader had done it for me so I asked for a 3rd coat. Not only was it patchy on my actual nails but it was SLOPPY. I don't understand how she was digging her nails so painfully underneath my nails to take off access nail polish but still ended up smearing nail polish on the skin surrounding the top and sides of my toe nails. To end it all, I sat in the drying chair for over 30 mins without it drying due to her horrible job. Doing nails should be fun and not a chore and the 3 times that I have been here it has always been a chore. I only came because H&K nails were completely booked and Dahlia was closed, I should've actually tried the nail salon next door to them. For $24 I feel cheated completely when I know there are way better options just 1-2 blocks down. I will not be coming here ever again no matter if it is the last option of the day, I would rather do it myself than be stuck with a horrible nail job and -$24. I don't care if they are giving me a good 2 minute massage on my legs and shoulders, they still are HORRIBLE at doing nails. read more

I see myself coming back here. I came here a little after 5PM wasn't crowded at all. My nail technician (whose name I will be sure to get next time I go was incredibly nice.) I liked that she asked me how I'd like my manicure done. It wasn't just "square?" It was do you want your cuticles cut? Where do you want me to put the colors? It was nice. $9 for a manicure that was fair. My only issue with this place was the color selection is really basic and boring. I'd come with my own colors in the future. The woman (who's name I didn't catch) spent probably the longest time I've ever had anyone else do at fixing up my neglected cuticles before swiftly and neatly applying the polish. Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience at Pema Nails. I asked for a french manicure, using pink for the base and black for the tips. I showed pictures of exactly what I wanted - I wanted the top part to be angled (sort of like a "v"), not straight across as in a traditional french. I have had this done many times at other nail salons. But, no one at this place could really get the hang of it, or understood how to do it. One of the ladies finally did something that resembled what I wanted, but it looked awful: as if a young child had painted them. I finally spoke up and told her I did not like it and asked her to take it all off. She tried again, then again, then again: removing everything, then starting from the beginning. At that point, I realized I had been in there for an hour. I just could not bare to stay any longer, so I asked her to remove all the polish because I wanted to leave. She did such a bad job of doing this menial task, that I now have pink and black nail polish along the edges of my nails, cuticles, and underneath my nail - I have black nail polish underneath my nails, so my nails and fingers look absolutely filthy. I want to cry. As I was getting up to leave, she offered me $4 back. "Four dollars? That's what you're giving me back?" I questioned. Essentially, I just paid a total of $12 ($11 for french, $1 for "speed dry" and a $4 tip) so I could walk out of there with filthy looking nails. To add to that, I am terrified that I am going to get a nail infection. When it was time to push back and cut my cuticles half-way through the manicure, she searched for the appropriate tools in the drawer in front of her, not from a sterilization machine. With each one that she picked up, she examined it to see if it had left over gunk from the previous customer. Finally, she picked the "best one" and sprayed that antiseptic stuff on it before she proceeded to use it on me. I should have known from then to just walk away. I went here for a mani/pedi after quite some time. Their prices have gone up a little. It's now $20 for a mani/pedi but service is quick and efficient. They do a little massage on your legs and a shoulder massage after they are done, but they will try and have one last do your pedicure while another does the manicure. This might be annoying for some people but I didn't mind as I wanted to get done quickly. All in all a great deal and a decent mani/pedi. Good OPI color selection. read more

Do NOT do it!! A total waste of my time and money!!! I came here on an emergency. I needed to get my SNS powder done and the place that I usually go to (stone spa- next door) was closed. I asked if they did SNS, if they didn't, I was totally willing to get a regular gel manicure. They said they did but when they started getting the products together I totally started to doubt how much they actually knew about SNS. I guess that they don't do it often. Which would have been totally fine bc I would have just done something else. Instead I got a really poor nail job. I was completely dissatisfied with the results, the tech and owner noticed so reduced the price (not by much). The next day the SNS gel fell off one by one! When I came to try and get maybe a regular manicure done at least, they were closed! So I had to go to ANOTHER salon and PAY AGAIN to get the nails that I had JUST gotten done the day before!!! Luckily, New Potala nails on Steinway did an amazing job! Needless to say I WILL NOT BE BACK to Pema! Though they were very nice and friendly, they were deceitful and in so doing were a complete waste of time and money! I spent 2 days getting my nails done.
