How lucky were we to come across this quaint coffeehouse with stunning views and awesome folks running the place. Maurica, the co-manager, was friendly, attentive, and fun to talk to, and even introduced us to the owner who was equally lovely. We enjoyed the fresh pastry, tasty hot chocolate and daily selection of tea. We aren't coffee drinkers but this seems to be their specialty. The view was stunning - we ate our brunch at the edge of a scenic lake. As out of towers we stumbled across this place which was just the homie, comfortable, beautiful type of place we were looking for, with great staff and good food. Cute place! From the outside it looks like a house turned into a coffee shop. Great coffee. I like that they do latte art. We were seated in the back deck patio because we had our dog. I enjoyed my cappuccino with the nice view of the lake. It was also nice of the waitress to bring over a bowl of water for my dog. They also serve food and fresh pastries. Sunday hours should help Pemberton excel over some other places because of the lazy Sunday morning brunches. The atmosphere is rustic as its housed in a former farmhouse that has a surrounding deck overlooking a pond. The noise from 50 can scarcely be detected. The parking is a bit dicy but one can usually find some place to park. The food is supreme with a nice mixture of quiches, salads and sandwiches. The desserts are decadent but not too rich to make them heavy and spoil the preceding course(s). The Russian Tea Cookies are made from scratch and must be tried as they literally melt like yummy butter on the tongue. The staff is hospitable and knowledgable about their menu items. Stopped in here for brunch with my girlfriend on our way back to NJ from our Fourth of July vacation. Found it by using yelp and picked it because it was near the water. We sat on the back deck overlooking the river and it was great scenery. The only real issues we had were the flies and the staff forgot my hash browns. They made up for it by bringing them free of charge and giving us a dessert on the house. All in all the breakfast food was good, not great but good. If you're looking for a good place I would check it out. They are a little pricey for the serving sizes in my opinion but all in all it makes for a good breakfast, brunch or lunch stop. Visited on a weekend road trip to Ocean City and loved the view! They had outdoor seating right by the water but it was unfortunately way too hot to eat outside but I'm sure it would have been amazing. This was an adorable restaurant to have brunch in and close to our hotel. Had the eggs benedict x4 ($6 each) and shared the chocolate chip belgian waffle ($7). Being from NYC where eggs benedicts are double the price if not more, our expectations were pretty low but everything was pretty decent aside from half of our eggs being a little too overdone to the point where it was no longer runny. They also serve counter culture coffee which was awesome. Absolutely the worst service that I have received in quite some time. My wife, son and I went for breakfast this morning and placed a drink order without to much problem. The waiter then took our order for breakfast whereby we ordered a waffle, egg casserole and eggs benedict. We waited an additional 45 minutes an the waiter came back an asked if we were ready for our check. Pros: nice view, cozy atmosphere, independent and local Cons: instant coffee?, lame tea, confusing service, messed up orders, mediocre food, misleading menu Let's begin with the service. Upon entering, we had to wander around until someone asked if we knew about the new ordering system. Apparently they had recently changed from ordering at the counter to having servers. This might not of been a good move, because we had to wander to two or three different tables before a server found us. Then there was the drink selection. This place is marketed as a coffee house, but my boyfriend, who is an avid coffee drinker, ordered the coffee of the day which had all the characteristics of instant coffee. It was oily,it began to separate, stuck to the sides the glass, and tasted stale and burnt. I ordered the peach blossom tea which was not half bad, but was hoping to find a better tea selection since they advertise it on their website. When I asked about the teas, I had to walk around the counter to find it, and it was pretty lacking and the leaves looked old. Trying to avoid finishing the instant coffee, my boyfriend asked for some kind of juice which the breakfast restaurant then informed us they had none. None! A breakfast restaurant with no juice... On top of this, neither one of us received silverware and when we asked for it, we were not given spoons. So although we were provided sugar, no milk or cream, we could not mix it into our drinks. Despite the lack luster beverages, the food menu looked very promising with a variety of healthy and comfort food options. But when we finally ordered, we were given an order number as if we had to pick up our food from the counter, even though our server was supposed to bring it to us. This was very confusing. The restaurant was relatively empty so our food came fairly quickly, but when it arrived, my boyfriend's Eggs Benedict did not come with the corned beef that it called for on the menu. When we asked our server about this, she argued with us that we did not ask for corned beef, although it says very clearly on the menu this is part of the dish. She had told us that it was a newer menu, but the cook should have known what was called for in the dish. Similarly, the turkey sausage and potato frittata that I ordered was actually a potato frittata with rubbery turkey sausage patties on the side. This was a misleading menu item. Although quiche and frittata menu items often are pre-made and heated up for the order, this was a poor choice for this particular dish. The cheese layer on top of the frittata was a congealed, hard to cut through mass. The whole dish became cold quickly as I was waiting for my boyfriends Eggs Benedict to be fixed. The one redeeming quality was that they did remake the Eggs Benedict and it was good when it came out the second time. Our server was also friendly if confusing and not well-informed. To end on a positive note, the view was nice and the food was not that expensive, but in the future we would choose to go to a restaurant that cost a few dollars more for significantly better food and service. read more

My girlfriend and I went there last weekend and it was pretty amazing. I got a egg and cheese sandwich with turkey sausage. The egg was perfect, not that fake egg you get at most places. My girlfriend got the French toast and aside from the presentation being perfect, they were cooked perfectly and deliciously... Absolutely LOVED this charming establishment! Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon on the way back to DC after a weekend of camping in Assateauge. I am so in love with this place I would seriously considering making the two hour trek just for their amazing array of baked goods and hearty, healthy salads. TERRIBLE SERVICE!! The food and coffee aren't that bad at all, but the service is TERRIBLE. I brought my mom there while she was visiting and for us to order and get two sandwiches took OVER 40 min!!! Just ridiculous. A group of four ladies came at least 20 min after us and received their food before us. My mother and I wanted a quick bite before leaving town and we ended up waiting over 40 min for mediocre food. Cool place with an awesome deck in the back where you can sit amongst the breezes and trees and let yourself relax. The Coffees I had were excellent, the Finca El Puente & the French Roast. There are various baked good - the brownie I had was delicious. They also have Craft Beer & Wine available. It's located in a house and there are different areas to sit and just think about Life, read, have a conversation or whatever. The staff were very nice and accomodating. I came down to Salisbury to steal a table for the day and interview prospective students for my University. This coffee shop was a great choice, and one I would recommend to anyone. Nothing beats that coziness of a family-owned business. Their warm and welcoming atmosphere was delightful to experience. I started with a panini and soup for lunch, and ate all of both. The panini menu reminded me of a shop I might find in Berkeley or Palo Alto, CA, which was refreshing and surprising. Later on during the day I got a hot chocolate and some cookies. I'm particularly picky about my hot chocolate at coffee shops, because for some reason they always taste of coffee (which I don't drink). This hot chocolate, however, was wonderfully chocolatey with no hint of coffee flavor! The cookies were to die for, and on a whole this place was a wonderful experience. if I am ever in Salisbury again, I will be sure to visit and bring a friend. Coffeehouse pickings are pretty slim in this town. It's hard to find a place with great coffee, great food, great atmosphere, and friendly staff - I'd probably be satisfied with just one or two of those - but Pemberton has it all. May they never close. read more

I am so sad. When I heard this place was opening again I went right away. The coffee was just ok. On this visit I was flat out disappointed. Two kids who couldn't have been older than 15 were making the espresso drinks. They had to ask the manage how to make an americano (bad sign). Then I watched as they poured it into a 20oz water class spilled it all over the place and then put a coaster around it. I sent the drink back....they returned with a coffee mug but had simply poured half the watered down americano into a mug. It was unbelievably weak. I took it up to the front and explained I had gotten one here before and this was just too weak. The manager proceeded to argue with me that they must normally give me and extra shot when I asked her to simply remake it. The replacement was decent and they offered me a free pastry, but this should have never happened. Don't use your sons as employees, don't serve hot drinks in water glasses, and don't serve poor quality drinks. Sadly you have lost a customer. read more

I have to agree with the reviews that say the PCH has gone downhill. We used to enjoy stopping here for coffee and a bkfst casserole on our way home from the beach. The last two visits have been disappointing and I doubt if we will go back. A shame because it's such a beautiful location with a lovely deck. My impression - and the opinion of my niece who lives in Salisbury and used to be a regular - is that there have been some management changes that have resulted in less concern for the customers and less attention the quality of the food and especially the coffee. I used to have the impression that this was a family-owned and operated business. If it still is, you couldn't tell from the attitude of the people who work there. read more

We were leaving OC to go back home. We always stop at the Salisbury zoo. I did a quick search for places to lunch and found Pemberton. It was on a side street so keep your eye out. It's easy to miss if you're not from the area. There is plenty of parking in the front. We went around 1pm and the back deck was almost full, we took the last table to enjoy the view. There was also plenty of inside seating. They had a regular menu plus seasonal offerings. I had the apple, goat cheese, spinach panini. It had a balsamic dressing and delicious. I typically don't like paninis because I feel like they are just smooshed, warmed sammies but this was nicely done. The latte was nice as well. It was a great stop on the way home (or to) OC or if you're in the area. If I was local this would be a regular stop for me. read more

We were there last night for some live entertainment on the deck. My partner and I were playing Scrabble in the dark, and a staff member came over with two candles for our table. Despite a hotel employee telling us this place was "mediocre," we decided to check it out anyway because of the positive reviews. So glad we did! Setting on the river is very nice and the breakfast is outstanding. I had the breakfast casserole, which is massive, full of potatoes, tomatoes, eggs, cheese and turkey sausage. It needs a bit more salt, but is otherwise very good. Everyone else in my party was very pleased with their selections. The service is attentive and the inside decor is so pretty. My husband and I had a rare day off together and went here for breakfast this morning. We sat out back on the deck. It was a beautiful morning with a light breeze blowing across the lake. It was a picture perfect setting. I had their famous bread pudding, I can affirm that it lives up to its reputation! It was So sweet and warm, fantastic! My husband had the eggs Benedict and I tried a bite. My husband says not many places get the hollandaise sauce right, but pemberton has it down. I had a French vanilla cappuccino and he had a traditional cappuccino. Both were fantastic! Served at the perfect temperature and the taste was perfect! The quality of the beans was evident. The foam was even heart shaped on top. Bottom line! Pemberton was the perfect place to have a relaxing morning. Looking forward to coming back. read more

Had a great time there with my wife. Looked it up on yelp, had good reviews but some negative ones too, decided to still check it out and wow! apparently they had a new manager that no longer works there that had been trying to change the feel of the place, but its now very friendly, cozy, you can either have counter service or sit down waiter service... I had the banana foster french toast which was incredible... melt in your mouth good... and my wife had the vege frittata which was great in its own right... they have regular dining seats at tables, and different rooms in what is truly a coffee HOUSE... they even have this enclosed patio area with nice windows and a small couch like chair, and a few other chairs and a small table, very cozy with a nice view of the deck outside... it started to rain while we were there, and felt like some sort of romantic movie scene... I definitely got some points that day .... and I would definitely recommend going here. Its homey so you might see some chipped paint here and there or a leak or two but GREAT food nice people, and beautiful ambiance and the outdoor scenery is awesome in the back. Also apparently they have salsa night and live music sometimes too? I really liked it. Worth at least one visit and I am sure there is no other place like it in Salisbury. Pemberton Coffeehouse was a long-established favorite of mine in the Salisbury area. It was integral in our major family moments having baby showers, bridal showers and baptism celebrations at this restaurant as well as using its catering services for several events. It unfortunately closed down and has since re-opened under new ownership. This was a much anticipated event for my family, and we were eager to support this business. Unfortunately, our eagerness was met with two poor experiences. We went on opening weekend with the expectation of good quality food and good people, but recognizing there would be kinks as it was a "new" business again. When we arrived, there were no high chairs. We forgave this as a simple oversight and decided to just hold our 18 month old whilst we ate. We ordered several items from the limited opening menu, and were met with disappointment with the quality of food. The Mediterranean style grilled cheese had potential for a flavorful treat, and yet the flavors did not mesh well and it tasted like a bland "try-hard" sandwich with no punch. We could not even finish half of it. The service was okay, but the vibe did not feel as welcoming or fun as it once had been. We decided to give them several weeks before trying again to see if it was opening day nerves. Upon return, however, they still had no high chairs (which the owner herself ensured us on opening weekend would be arriving within 2 weeks max). When we asked, she said she couldn't find high chairs anywhere. This is hard to believe that every other establishment known to man has high chairs readily available, and yet now they no longer have them anywhere? The menu on the wall had not been added to or changed in any way, a clear indicator that they are not evolving or trying to evolve at a reasonable rate to grow into the establishment it once was. When my mother asked if there was a high chair she had overlooked, the owner said no with a whole list of places that don't sell them. The internet is vast, in five minutes I found restaurant high chairs for sale on amazon for $35. Anyone who gave a darn about their customers or their business would have solved this after the first inquiry on the first day open. This shows a lack of care for the customer experience to me. The real highlight came, however, when my mother said that she felt it was hard to believe there was no high chair anywhere to be purchased for the restaurant to provide to her customers. The owner responded with a snarky comment in a rude voice as we were leaving to ensure that she had the last word and that reflected the general experience of the restaurant now. We have spent endless hours and money at this restaurant and were hoping to continue. Unfortunately it is now run by an owner who clearly has no talent for cooking quality food, no skill in customer service, no attention to detail, and no drive to succeed. This place is doomed to fail because the product is as poor as it gets. I cannot express in words how severely disappointed I am. read more
