This massive mall with nearly 2M square feet of space for up to 200 retailers is always an interesting experience. The repertoire of shops here, of course, has changed over the years. Gone are shops like Sears, Borders and Circuit City. Now there's more contemporary replacements like Kohls, Hobby Lobby and Primark. While many traditional indoor malls are dying a slow, painful death, Gurnee Mills seems to be thriving at least to some extent. The food court is still quite active and the storefronts still seem largely occupied. I particularly enjoy places like 2nd & Charles, the aforementioned Primark and Five Below. The food options like Starbucks, Cinnabon and Charley's Steaks are quite good for a drink, a snack or a light meal. There are also places for the kids to play. All of this housed in a pleasant facility continues to make Gurnee Mills an enjoyable place to visit.

Sizes are limited for certain types of clothes, though. Like the Navy emblems, logos and signs. Good customer service representatives working there. Parking can be a hassle, though. And it can get pretty crowded in there as well. So, please be aware of that.

Racks of discounted hoodies, shoes calling your name, and that one pair of Air Jordans whispering, "Treat yourself." It's like Nike decided to throw a clearance party and your wallet got an invite. Buy those shoes.... you sacrificed 9 weeks from the outside world,, left home, worked hard, obeyed your RDCs, got beat, persevered..... you absolutely deserve it!!!

Has cheaply made trinkets and other junk. There's also clothing but who knows what kind of quality. Basically it used to be a better mall when it had actual stores people heard of, instead of whatever it is they have. It's more like a Mexican flea market. There's a lot of family owned businesses inside, mostly selling clothes and trinkets. An interesting history about it. The mall opened in 1965 as one of the first in the Chicago area, and at first it was quite successful. It was also the first enclosed mall in Lake County. Soon newer malls opened and it was in trouble. Montgomery Ward was the original anchor. The 1980s was bad as they and other stores left. It's now a Home Depot. There's a lot of empty space. A lot is clustered together at one end. The stores include jewelry, makeup, and cheap stuff. Good that it has found a way to remain open, but it needs lots of help. It's located on Belvidere Road at Lewis. They're open daily from the morning to evening, but many stores have erratic hours so it's like the hours are a suggestion or whatever.

There's a delay between donation and being sorted and cleaned and put on shelves with prices. The store itself is overstocked and a little hard to find sizes. There was no tag so i asked a price and the lady helping said $40 I said that's too expensive and that I'd go somewhere else because I know there's one for cheaper at a different thrift store. She bumped it down to $25 so I said sure. I paid. Waited 30 MINUTES watching workers with empty trollies passing me multiple times, so I asked ANOTHER worker. Finally a man brings one and starts loading it and that's when I'm told "oh you gotta bring your car around to the back and I can't lift it into the car" I WISH SOMEONE TOLD ME BEFORE HAND. So I drove to what I thought the back was, and then walked around to the front again because no one was there. I asked a worker and started to state my concerns. SHE CUTA ME OFF, TURNS AROUND AND LEAVES. And I see the man again. That's when they tell me "oh you gotta take the side street to get to the back back" So I walk all the way back to my car and I pull up. I am extremely frustrated at this point for how they're treating me and the horrible communication. So I show that frustration. I start loading my desk in the car and then the guy is holding onto it as if I didn't pay and is forcing himself trying to help me. I told him MULTIPLE TIMES "stop, I got this" "you said it yourself it's against policy. You make me do all this and NOW you decide to -help-???" "Leave me alone! LEAVE ME ALONE!" I had to hit his fingers to get him to let go. I'm telling them they have shit communication and have horrible customer service. Waiting half an hour to be forgotten about and having to remind them that "hey. I'm still here.... I said I was ready..... I've been waiting over 30 minutes" I usually don't get upset like this until I'm pushed beyond breaking point. Never going here again! We showed up at 10:40, stared at what looked like a mini Navy deployment, and were inside within 30 minutes. The line moves faster than expected, so it was a quick in-and-out mission. Lots of Navy merch which was cool. Now, if you're on the hunt for a "Navy Mom" apparel, may the odds be ever in your favor. Those things disappear faster than free samples at Costco!! Plenty of Navy Dad, Brother, and Sister gear still hanging around, but the Mom merch? Practically an endangered species. A bonus for all my fellow introverts: they've got self-checkout lanes, so you can scan your own stuff, avoid awkward small talk, and be on your way like a retail ninja!!

Picked up our Navy Boot Camp Graduation Tickets for 11/14/24…read more Didn't wait long to get them as there were no people in line, so we were in and out of that section quickly. We then browsed around the consumer section to see if they had anything new compared to the last 2 visits.... Didn't really see much inventory that stood out. Same ol' hoodies, Sweatshirts, t-shirts, keychains and water bottles. Saw some Navy UA Hats, but were the fitted sizes. Prices were still a little high. This time around, purchased 2 water bottles and a leather wallet. First two times, we bought a whole bunch of souvenirs, so we mainly looked around this time for anything new in store.
